It's a war and he's a leader, how tf would it looks to his soldiers if he was like "damn killing people is so sad why can't we all just be friends" like every other "hero" in movies and games. Plus in the heat of battle against the enemies who want to rip apart your dearest friends and enslave humanity I'd be more surprised if prime wasn't like "fuck you imma beat you to a pulp". If there's one thing they did right in these movies (at least the early ones) they made prime a fucking force to be reckoned with. He takes on Megatron, starscream and the other dude in a 3v1, reduces one to begging for mercy, rips starscreams arm off and heavily wounds Megatron all while protecting Sam.
@@Defnotdiablo How would it look to his soldiers? It'd probably make Optimus look, dare I say, inspiring? Like someone who doesn't simply want to destroy the enemy and win the win, but end conflict for his people? This Optimus is more like Kratos. But I guess for the world that this series portrays, and the characters they have, I think making Optimus just a tad too blood thirsty is the best case scenario
@Bradley Sanders Seems like stories always get Prime's character wrong. In the new Netflix series he is exactly the weak leader you described, who is unwilling to make difficult decisions or take life, thus causing far more suffering through how ineffective he is (this is my least favorite way he can be written). In the Baymovies he is an unrelenting slaughter machine and the plot doesn't give him enough out-of-battle time to show him being a good leader, so we just have to take the story's word for it that he's a good guy. I disagree with you in how violent he is, he seems to relish the killing too much, but most of that is just an issue with lacking other story elements, and I'd rather him be too violent than not violent enough tbh. There need to be more well written transformers media, like the IDW comics, where Optimus is an even tempered leader who is very badass in battle, but he is also aware that he is fallable and tries to remove himself from becoming an idol, only to be caught in the esteem the Autobots hold for him. He's a powerful paragon hero who has to be tempered, kind of like Superman; he cant relish killing too much, but he also has to stick to have strong conviction and principles. Those comics did an amazing job of showing how he can step up and lead, but when he doesn't temper himself from his ego and desire for "freedom" he becomes what Megatron accuses him of being, which is a sanctimonious warmonger.
Absolutely, optimus is super justified. If you remember any of the plot points of the movies the decepticons are hell bent on human and autobit extinction or enslavement. They HAVE to die or switch sides

its crazy that after all the wars and the millennia of fights between Optimus and Megatron all it took was Optimus being pissed off to be able to kill Megatron with one arm missing
The worst part is that, you can't even blame him for turning into a psychopath. The Decepticons are so cartoonishly evil and murderous it's easy to have no remorse for killing them, and it doesn't help the fact that in later movies he's against Decepticons AND humanity while his brothers were hunted down
What other movies? Transformers ended with the trilogy! At least I like to tell myself that. Age of Extinction just made the humans even more cartoonishly stupid and evil than the decepticons. And the....Human sized transformer guns...just why.
I liked this version of Optimus more (yeah because of the brutal scenes) because he's realistic. When you're at war, you gotta do everything to lessen the numbers of your enemies no matter what. This Optimus understood that. I wouldn't want a impractical, senseless guy with blind optimism to be my leader.
Fun fact: In the prequel novel Ghosts of Yesterday: Before the events of the first movie the Decepticons: Blackout, Barricade, Bonecrusher, and Starscream all have a conversation and point out and acknowledge that Optimus is not weak and is a formidable opponent and some of them mention that fighting him one on one would mean certain death. They all respect and fear him because they have seen his skill as a warrior and know he is the biggest threat the Decepticons faced. But they still want the honor of killing him to win favor amongst the other Decepticons and with Megatron which would earn them a higher status within their ranks. Which is why Bonecrusher was so eager to fight Prime in the first movie but it is also what lead to his inevitable death.
Funny I remember a comic where Barricade told Bonecrusher to deal with Prime cause he still had a score to settle with Bee. And Bonecrusher simply said "sure whatever."

This guy just said “give me your face”, ripped said face off and then punched a heart out of a chest so, y’know, totally normal, not psycho behaviour lmao
This portrayal of Prime as a "take no prisoners" kinda brawler protagonist made me like him. Let's be honest, even if you're a die-hard Decepticon fan, you gotta love Prime, if only for a moment.
Everyone gets so caught up in the huggable side of Optimus Prime that they also forget - he's a head of state and military CIC that's fought a war lasting a thousand millennia. He's had to get used to making hard decisions, and knows his enemy well enough to understand there can be peaceful understanding with them. He is the proverbial patient man of whose fury to beware.
He's the Prime; literally the leader of their entire civilization and tasked as not only with that but considered the physical embodiment of their deity, Primus (the Matrix is a piece of Primus's spark). He has been forced to become a warlord, which was never what he was supposed to be, in a civil war that should not have happened. I think it probably kills him a little every time he kills a Decepticon, because he never forgets that they are all supposed to be one people, one society, and a Prime is not supposed to kill.
The fact that the decepticon at 0:42 actully pleads “No prime, PLEASE” before Optimus rips his bloody face into two, proves how batshit bonkers prime is
I don't think that's what the Decepticon said. And IF it is, I dont mind Prime killing him. Its like you guys 3v1 him, and then when he beats you on 1v1 just then you are begging for mercy? And lets not forget that Decepticons' actions killed a lot of humans and started a war on Cybertron. So yeah Prime has the right to kill em.
Well when you have to protect a human, earth, and yourself from equally energon thirty psychopaths. Those very same people responsible for your friend/family's deaths. Then you can imagine wanting to rip people's faces off.
@@evanescence_1115 actuallyy it was the "auto bots" bc before the war they were actually still not equal Believe it or not but the autobots enslaved the decepticons Made them work Made them fight in a arena roman gladiator style And so the decepticons specifically megatron rebelled
Someone else in the comments already pointed this out, but I like how Optimus rips off Starscream's arm and proceeds to use said arm as a weapon to beat Starscream, and the movie just glosses past that like it's a normal thing
Here’s a hidden fact I found out while watching rotf & dotm in the forest battle when he’s fighting all three decepticons he throws his right sword. At grindors leg detaching it from his arm and in dotm if you look really closely whenever he uses it, he now holds it in his hand, instead of it, being embedded into his arm. His sword in his left arm, though remains embedded whenever he uses it, since he never detached it.
The Bayverse may be a scrapheap of wasted opportunities and questionable plot choices but you cannot deny that they made the most savage and badass Optimus Prime ever!
I've always said that while they weren't necessarily "good" movies they definitely delivered on a gritty modern interpretation of transformers quite well.
It was all sparkly bright lights to me. Couldn't really make out anything on first viewing. Rewatching fight scenes helped to see what was actually going on.
I still think how he killed the Fallen is the most brutal. Not even the face ripping bit. But he PUNCHED HIS SPARK OUT AND CRUSHED IT. That's the equivalent of a human punching into someone's chest and ripping out their heart. That's *hard core*, man
Let’s be honest, we love Optimus prime for many things and one of them is his complete brutality in badassery. That was for Irionhide, you bastard. Sorry they get me in the feels every time.
I will never show sympathy for the Deceptions when it is so obvious that that in this universe, they are scary barbarians and their tactics are horrific. I will never be foolish enough to cry over someone that would literally squash me like a bug given the chance.
This is what I'd imagine a veteran of the Autobot Decepticon war to look like. Not that typical animated good guy character, but a seasoned warrior who's reluctant, but if needed, will finish the job swiftly and coldly.
And that’s why he’s not a writer. He still acts like it’s still the 80s and he’s doing G1. He’s essentially complaining that Optimus has evolved beyond his G1 version. It’d be like if Adam West complained about The Dark Knight or any other darker depiction of Batman…except he didn’t because Adam West accepted that times are different to when he played the bat…hell he even did voice overs of some of the darker Batman lines. Peter’s a great voice actor but he doesn’t have creative authority over Prime especially in a grittier version of him.
@@Lifeislikeadoughnut Prime can evolve past G1, he just doesn't need to say shit like "give me your face". I'd expect a comically evil serial killer to say that, not the leader of the good guys.
@@SPEEDFRAK (This isn't specifically replying only to you, it's just that you are the most recent person to post on the topic) I can kind of see both sides of this. When I was growing up my main exposure to Transformers was the first live action movie, so that's the Optimus I mostly have nostalgia for, but I also feel like when I look at G1 stuff that the first movie's Optimus is closer to the G1 Optimus than he is to the Optimus of later movies. I feel like the live action Optimus is very interesting as a character but he also isn't really the same Optimus; rather than being an evolution of the character he is more like a reimagining of him, or a different character put into his shoes. Still a very interesting character, but not Optimus. I feel like the best way to enjoy the live action films is to think of all the characters as completely different characters; that's how I came to G1 and it's helped me to enjoy each version a lot better than if I was hoping for the live action to be an adaptation of G1. The new movies seem to be geared more as an adaptation of the original Transformers rather than a reimagining, and that will be interesting too. Idk, I love G1 and the live action movies will always have a place in my heart and I feel like we can appreciate each of them as their own independent works.
@@Lifeislikeadoughnut you don’t realize that Peter based Optimus Prime’s voice on his late brother Larry (who was a marine). When Peter told him he was gonna audition for a hero, Larry told him “be strong enough to be gentle”. Saying such things like “I’LL KILL YOU!” doesn’t sound gentle at all. Even I do agree that Bayverse Optimus’s actions were in 100% justified, these movies should’ve shown violence as a last resort a little bit more clearly so that the audience could understand why Optimus did what he did to those life threatening Decepticons. I’m not here to argue, I’m just here to say something. Edit: I stand corrected. Dark of the Moon DID show Optimus only using violence as a last resort when other options are used up (it’s just that people overlooked it and continued to call him a psychopath). In the scene where Optimus pulls up at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, he doesn’t use violence as his first instinct but instead tries to speak to and reason with Sentinel who sided with the Decepticons but it sadly didn’t work so he was forced to retreat. In the end, Optimus did indeed use violence as a last resort to kill both Megatron and Sentinel because he had enough.
Let's not forget the part in Age of Extinction where he takes a short break from fighting Lockdown to shoot a human man at point blank range just super casually
Come on, he was literally about to shoot Cade. It wasn't so much casual as it was defending a friend. And let's not forget, this guy was also behind the operation to murder Rachet and all the other autobots (definitely a war crime, the attack was completely unprovoked and upon surrendered teammates who weren't fighting back), and to sell Optimus into slavery.

Classic Optimus Prime lines, like “I’ll kill you all,” “give me your face”, and “you die now.”
A leader. A keeper of peace
Peace has patience and patience has limits

It would have a hardcore R rating with all the gore
Why do you think they got off with such gore in these movies with just pg rating lol
My boy took that “you are so weak” line from megatron way too personal
“You didn’t betray me, you betrayed yourself” is such an underrated line, and I wish to. Use it one day somehow
Non kidding! Similar to DJ Kahalid, "You played yourself." 💯
if you believe everyone is your friend then you surely will.
NOO OPTIMUS!!
equivalent of call an ambulance but not for me
“I’m sorry sir it’s 11:07, we’re no longer serving breakfast”
*Says the line*
Best line ive ever heard from him litteraly "piece of tin" full blown disrespect to something taller than him 💀💀💀
imagine omni man kills the immortal and goes "bag of guts"
bro he says it like it's a slur 😭
The fact that the decepticon at 0:42 actully pleads “No prime, PLEASE” before Optimus rips his bloody face into two, proves how batshit bonkers prime is
I don't think that's what the Decepticon said. And IF it is, I dont mind Prime killing him. Its like you guys 3v1 him, and then when he beats you on 1v1 just then you are begging for mercy? And lets not forget that Decepticons' actions killed a lot of humans and started a war on Cybertron. So yeah Prime has the right to kill em.
Holy crap never realized that
15 years later and I never realized that. You’re a hero
Well when you have to protect a human, earth, and yourself from equally energon thirty psychopaths. Those very same people responsible for your friend/family's deaths. Then you can imagine wanting to rip people's faces off.
@@evanescence_1115 actuallyy it was the "auto bots" bc before the war they were actually still not equal
Believe it or not but the autobots enslaved the decepticons
Made them work
Made them fight in a arena roman gladiator style
And so the decepticons specifically megatron rebelled
The way they depicted Optimus in this universe he's not a leader he's a soldier and a damn good one at that
0:42 "no prime, please" bro begged for mercy😭
As Billy Butcher would say "That's fuckin' diabolical!"
That’s literally the first time I noticed that. Now I feel bad for the poor robot
@@Sofe-px1vi to give you something else to feel bad for, his name is Grindor.
Yes, really
Huh, I always thought he said “Oh not me!!!”
and he said NOOOOOOOOØØ- or OWWWWWWWWŴAAAAGGHHHHHHH
Someone else in the comments already pointed this out, but I like how Optimus rips off Starscream's arm and proceeds to use said arm as a weapon to beat Starscream, and the movie just glosses past that like it's a normal thing
It is. In TFP im pretty sure Prime also shoots of Screamer's arm lmao
@@NicPTheMemehe doesn't shoot enough to have it decapitated, ya know.
"Quit hitting yourself. Quit hitting yourself. Quit hitting yourself."
In the scene where megatron abuses starscream on the rooftop megatron rips his arm off again to beat him with it
With Starscream, disrespect is a normal thing
You know he's serious when he pulls out the non-energon brass nuckles.
how i love the design of that brass knuckles
Why this “You pic the wrong planet” is giving me so much vibes about “YOU PIC THE WRONG HOUSE, FOOL!”? 🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂
“Something you can say to your enemy and your girlfriend.”
Optimus: *GIVE ME YOUR FACE*
“Something you can say to your enemy and your girlfriend (after cheating).”
"You didn't betray me, you betrayed yourself"
The girlfriend: “where would you be without me??”
The guy: *”time to find out”*
@@davidgordillo6583 When she comes home with her Friends in tow.

I rise, you fall.
Thanks I always wondered why he started holding his swords in the third one.
I think Grindor pulls it out of his leg to use before he dies too
I guess it's a permanent thing
@@DestroyerThedefender not really in age of extinction it’s embedded back into his arm before being grinned to pieces by Galvatrons chest hole
@@aidansalas8389 well the plot made it permanent. but in all seriousness I guess changing truck forms fixed it
The Bayverse may be a scrapheap of wasted opportunities and questionable plot choices but you cannot deny that they made the most savage and badass Optimus Prime ever!
Michael bay is the chaos god of explosions and cgi coreography for figths
I've always said that while they weren't necessarily "good" movies they definitely delivered on a gritty modern interpretation of transformers quite well.
Lol nope.
It was all sparkly bright lights to me. Couldn't really make out anything on first viewing. Rewatching fight scenes helped to see what was actually going on.
Agreed
2:26 that “time to find out” is absolutely chilling for a response. Dark of the moon is underrated.
I still think how he killed the Fallen is the most brutal. Not even the face ripping bit. But he PUNCHED HIS SPARK OUT AND CRUSHED IT. That's the equivalent of a human punching into someone's chest and ripping out their heart. That's *hard core*, man
I think he also shoved the spark in the fallen's mouth too as an additional f you
@@alexcunningham2037 nah he didn't, just crushed it into nothing
Turned him into a donut
Essentially just Mortal Kombat fatality kind of brutal.
He also cut off several of his fingers from both hands, and a bit of his chin before that lmao
Let’s be honest, we love Optimus prime for many things and one of them is his complete brutality in badassery. That was for Irionhide, you bastard. Sorry they get me in the feels every time.
Ironhides death still hurts me, man. Don't even get me started on seeing our bois get GONE in AOE.
Optimus prime was never a savage barbarian
I will never show sympathy for the Deceptions when it is so obvious that that in this universe, they are scary barbarians and their tactics are horrific. I will never be foolish enough to cry over someone that would literally squash me like a bug given the chance.
@@DrDale_McChudwhat he did isn’t savage
@@DrDale_McChudwhat he did is not savage
1:23 optimus prime really basically said "earth isn't yours to conquer" before omni man
This is what I'd imagine a veteran of the Autobot Decepticon war to look like. Not that typical animated good guy character, but a seasoned warrior who's reluctant, but if needed, will finish the job swiftly and coldly.
If you know how Peter Cullen created the voice for Optimus, than you’ll know that this was the exact tone he was trying to avoid originally
@@O49-b7d seeing what prime has gone through, I think him being a complete warlord is justified at this point.
He says "Give me your face" and then literally takes the Fallen's face off. A man of his word.
Optimus the kinda guy you’re *REALLY* glad is on your side.
Exactly 😰
That’s why they made a movie about him being the villain
sadly in age of extinction the humans made optimus look like a war villain
@@alexd2738 for like 2 seconds lol

“Give me your face” was definitely psychotic
Let's not forget the part in Age of Extinction where he takes a short break from fighting Lockdown to shoot a human man at point blank range just super casually
Sorry, that movie doesn't exist
To be fair the only thing that separate that human from a decepticon, was the fact that he was not a robot
by the allspark
Come on, he was literally about to shoot Cade. It wasn't so much casual as it was defending a friend.
And let's not forget, this guy was also behind the operation to murder Rachet and all the other autobots (definitely a war crime, the attack was completely unprovoked and upon surrendered teammates who weren't fighting back), and to sell Optimus into slavery.
Followed by splitting Lockdown in half vertically
Honestly, I love the brutal side of Prime.
Good warriors gotta be violent, but they can still be just.
Some people criticize the Transformers movies, but you gotta admit, these movies has the best robot fight scenes.
