      strong regen braking means less longveity of car, energy effiency in the moment is not the prioity for a more effective overall experince . hypermiling is more challenge (fun) with less regen too. just minimize auto braking and use pedal

    I'm glad they added heaters to the radar logo. Mine stops working with the slightest amount of ice, and there's no warning. It will be following the car ahead of me just fine, and then all of a sudden it starts accelerating to full speed because it doesn't "see" a car anymore. Eventually with a lot of ice a yellow warning light comes on, but it stops working long before that.

    This is an EV for Lexus loyalists as it is not competitive. Lack of range, charging limitations and slower onboard charger are disappointing. The instrument cluster looks like it belongs in a car from 10 years ago. This is nice enough as a second car for around town, but for the money it should be more. Toyota knows all this so either they don’t know how to make a better EV or they don’t care.

    im hoping once Tesla's connector goes mainstream (and thus opens up Superchargers), that will push all those other stations like EA/EC to actually get onto fixing and maintaining chargers. I think it's to discourage people from leaving their cars in those spots for longer than necessary. But I agree, it's fucked. Almost as fucked as making people pay for download speed, and putting a cap on quantity of data downloaded.

    • @lucasokeefe7935
      @lucasokeefe7935 Рік тому

      @@OlTrev There are much less predatory ways to ensure people don't loiter around too much that don't involve changing what people are actually paying for. The 'pay for time' scheme is just a money grab from companies in an industry that hasn't seen much in the way of actualized competition.
      The danger is that this horrible kind of pricing scheme will become normalized, and cause EVs to be less economically viable than traditional vehicles.
      If anything this is even more screwed up than data caps, speed tiers, and even subscription based options packages because you're lead to believe you're paying for one thing with a fairly predictable price (IE electricity from the grid) when you're really being charged for the privilege of sitting around being unproductive.
      Of course, the charging rate is designed to be as slow as possible so that you'll be tempted to do things that make you lose track of time or spend even more money at the new 4-in-1 Restaurant minimart massage parlor and dildo shop they're inevitably going to erect in the spaces that used to be for regular parking.

    Nice review, I love the and own a LexusRX (hybrid). Super comfortable, a joy to drive, and sporty enough for my purposes (F-Sport with Suspension Package). However I will never buy a fully electric car Lexus or not. I want range, dependability, all season usability, and I want to go to the beach on occasion.

  • @MLHunt
    @MLHunt Рік тому +22

    1. This entire platform (Toyota/Lexus/Subaru variants) is half-baked. Clearly Toyota was planning to wait to bring an EV to market but got spooked by the market, panicked, and rushed these things out. That said, Toyota and Subaru are both brands with very loyal customer bases so this may be enough to keep some of their buyers in the fold.
    2. One pedal drive is one of the best things about driving an EV. Once you get used to it, it makes everyday driving significantly more effortless.
    3. On the other hand the last thing I want to be concerned about when I'm driving my car is constantly managing its regen, so the systems with column paddles like this one and Hyundai/Kia's are a hard pass for me personally.

    • @narutobroken
      @narutobroken Рік тому +1

      Can you explain more of how the column pedal is different than some thing like Tesla?

    • @MLHunt
      @MLHunt Рік тому +1

      @@narutobroken Depends on the platform. On some, you adjust the regen to different levels by hitting the paddle. Or others you get the regen to kick in by holding the paddle, then it goes back to whatever its baseline behavior is when you release the paddle.

    • @MMOchAForPrez
      @MMOchAForPrez Рік тому

      1 pedal drivers are infuriating to drive around.

    • @MLHunt
      @MLHunt Рік тому

      @@MMOchAForPrez I suppose it can be to impatient or inattentive drivers. Depending on the particular system, it does make the car brake earlier and more gradually, which I can see might be annoying to drivers who are used to staying in the throttle later and braking more forcefully near their intended stopping point. And I think the behavior of the brake lights of the Hyundai/Kia/Genesis EVs under regen is problematic and borderline dangerous. The TechnologyConnections (?) channel did a good deep dive into this issue.

    • @MMOchAForPrez
      @MMOchAForPrez Рік тому

      @@MLHunt Cars that don't drive the way other cars do tend to upset the way traffic moves. If you don't keep your foot on your pedal at the exact same speed, your car slows down more than others. Sometimes the brake lights don't turn on, sometimes they do. Brake lights cause traffic congestion sometimes because people can be too cautious when they see them. Not noticing somebody is slowing down faster than normal because their brake lights don't turn on causes people to brake harder than normal and that causes a chain reaction with the people behind them. EVs driving behavior is abnormal. That's all there is to it. I stopped watching Technology Connections when he decided we needed amber in turn signals because he finds it difficult to discern a brake light from a tail light from the driver seat of his little Nissan Figaro. It was a ridiculous obsession that is solved by just paying attention to cars around you.

    Toyota is being too conservative with EVs. Tesla lets you fast charge any time without limitations, yet give 8 years of battery warranty. Also using a very small screen for gauge cluster is laughable. It’s 2023 and it’s a luxury brand, for godssake!

      Perhaps you haven't been paying close enough attention, but lots of companies have features the others rivals seem to lack. For example, your cell phone may have a high refresh rate of 120hz display, but what they don't tell you is that it also drains your battery much faster.
      Be an educated consumer, especially when one company appears to have some great advantage over all the others. Its part of the Buyer Beware caveat.

    All the high tech stuff is fine but I would like to know if these new cars have Homelink to operate our garage doors and any other secured underground parking because I do not want little plastic boxes clipped on to my visor. They look like crap and they are also a security risk. All a person needs to do is break a window on your car, grab the door opener and they can easily get inside your building. With Homelink, when the car is off there is no way for someone to steal your opener.

    Odd Doesnt an Infiniti Model have Drive by wire? t saw reviews and it complaints about it a few years ago.

    • @csdstudio78
      @csdstudio78 Рік тому

      The infiniti has some sort of automatic failsafe that engages the physical connection in the event of a power loss. However, I fail to see how that is any better bc it's still relying on a system to function correctly when power is available. The Lexus has no physical backup. Idk, it's all a bad idea.

    220 miles with 150 kW max charging speed is honestly pathetic for a car at the price they’re asking. This basically a 2nd car for a wealthy family or main car for a retiree who doesn’t really drive anywhere

    • @Cubeforc3
      @Cubeforc3 Рік тому

      This thing makes my ID.3 look good. It's half the price, has more range and you can actually charge it more than twice a day.
      The two fast charges a day kills this thing for anything but a 2nd car. Even in Europe where distances aren't as far it's still so much nicer to stop for 15 minutes to charge, pee, grab some food and go for maybe an hour and a half to the next charger rather than sit and wait for your car to hit 80-90% because that's one of your two allowed charges of the day.

    that range is scary low. once you only charge to 80% you are leaving he house with about about 155 miles of range. good for a daily commute but not going around town on a Saturday and forget about a road trip. Very disappointed with Lexus.

    Still not sold on all electric cars. To many limitations. They can tell you all they want that they can replace the I.C.E cars, but as of now, they cant. They can tell you it saves the environment, they don't, because by the time they DO, the battery is shot. These are the same people that tell us the economy is doing great. Believe them if you want, I guess.
