    It is honestly so nice to hear Karl talk about stuff and have someone listen instead of berating him and taking the piss non stop :p Don't get me wrong, I love the old XFM shows, but it is so nice just to hear Karl talk about stuff.

    The interviewer is fantastic, he just sits and listens to Karl and gets the best out of him, without relentlessly mocking him or taking the piss. Karl is an intelligent guy, he just sees the world in a slightly different way to most.

      I haven't watched the whole episode yet but fyi it's ordered that way because in ancient Greek they used the alphabet as their number system, the symbol for 1 is a, b is 2.. my memory is a tad hazy but I think its smth like the first 9 letters are the first 9 numbers then the next 9 are like 10,20,30 etc. N the next few are bigger numbers

    • @ziongite
      @ziongite 2 роки тому +1

      There isn't actually a reason it's in that order, every alphabet has to be in some order, it can't be in no order. And our alphabet originates from some ancient writing that came from the Sinai peninsula, which then spread to Greece later, which then became latin after that.

    This is one of my favourite podcasts/interviews ever. They are both listening to each other and it's just fun to listen to. When Karl talks about making school kids do DIY work around the school during detention, it reminded me of my uncle's story from when he was at secondary school. My uncle grew up in a slightly older generation than Karl did, but was still in the Manchester area. Anyways, he'd accidentally smashed one of the canteen windows with a football during break time. Because of this, the head teacher kept him behind after school and made him repaint the lines for the spaces in the school's car park as punishment. He was to paint the word "headmaster" in his space too. My uncle, being the class clown he was, he thought it would be funny to paint "headmasher" instead. Somebody else had to come in to scrape it off and my uncle got more detention. RIP Uncle

    Fantastic podcast. Karl's normally a little guarded in interviews and it's great to hear him open up with a fellow Northern Miserablist! It sounds like he had undiagnosed ADHD in his childhood which coupled with an utter failure of an educational system made him the man he is now. The 'pen' story and the comments from his head-teacher really made me angry. I came from a similar working class background, hated and failed in school, was a DJ, played drums and traded Speccy games too. I discovered third level education in my mid-20's, went on to do an undergrad degree, three MSc degrees and lecture part-time, yet I don't think my 'raw' mental ability holds a candle to Karl's. It's all about the 'graft'.
