The 1060 6GB is holding up quite well. Strangely though, at least in my area, the 1660s of all kinds are all only about 10-20-ish bucks above the 1060s. I feel like those are a bit more worth it but no slouch in any showings here. Nice work.

It depends if you're building for your own PC or for selling. The reason he went with this card is it's functional and it's white. Most cards aren't white, but white can make the difference between someone not only buying it, but what their prepared to pay. Atleast Zac isn't selling it with a i5 from 10 years ago and a 2gb GPU and some cheap RGB fans to fool someone who doesn't know what their looking at. Personally with vram becoming more Important I would try get a card with 8gb vram over the 6gb vram that the 1060 and 1660s have.

    • @Notyouraveragename
      @Notyouraveragename Рік тому +13

@@Jwalker76 Yeah honestly i was surprised by how fair the 1060 was for price. I'm a nvidia locked user due to ai, but for the 80-100$ range the 8 gb Rx 580 (ddr5) is a solid card, while for 220-250$ on amazon refurbished/used, the 3060ti offers a juggernaut of value as it's one of the top value cards for bang for buck on street (not 400$ msrp new) prices.
And it's only like 2 years old when even graphic cards you buy at the store are often like 5-7 years old and you don't have to worry about dried up thermal paste heating up the cards 60->80 on the 5+ year cards.
Still while some might see 1000$ on a pc as overkill, i think i chugged the math and for 250$ on a graphics card, it replaces a lot of hobby. Instead of cloud gaming on my old shitty 1650 (500% slower, 150$ card).
I can keep my computer for 10 years, the fps is butter smooth, and i've gone from 50 fps on rdr2 with 64 gb ram cheating a bit (the ram made my ow2 fps go 50 fps to 350 fps on a 1650 lol).
I think 64 gb ram might be overkill perhaps but i probably would still love to at least have 20-32gb or put the price savings on a higher card. The problem is for the 300-500$ range, the 3060/ti is a bargain for being able to run a lot of games at great settings and you'll often have to spend a extra +50-100$ to get a 144 hz vs 75-100 hz screen to see the 200-250 fps it already gets. (Or 400-600 fps for a 4090. Which tbh im not even sure if i can find monitors at 400 hz for.)
I feel like spending 400$ on a computer you dump after 3 years (133$ /yr, 11$ month), and gives horrible performance, vs a 600-1000$ computer that runs all your games extremely well for 7-10 years. (60-100$ a yr, 5-8$ a month) sounds fair to me.
Sure graphics cards depreciate over the years. The 1080 is a good example. 7 years ago it was a 800$ top end card. Now it has the performance similar to the 300-400$ msrp 3060ti, but still has 11 gb vram vs 8 gb. If you see those 7 years as a opportunity cost of 500$, that still ends up 80$ a year, but perhaps if one plays with reapplying the thermal paste safely(without destroying the card), so it runs without the notorious problems of a 11 gb vram card.. You can get the performance of a super computer to a okay but still beastly computer 8 years later.
And often like 300-400$ on a computer just gets eaten by a 80-100$ power supply, 100-200$ on case and motherboard, 100-200$ on just the cpu. Why not get 500% the fps/performance for just +25% more on a 400$ build and maybe aim to recoop the costs on a pc running it twice as long. With a 60-75 fps over 5-8 years goal on high/medium settings. Rather than 2000$ for a 400 fps model your 75-140 hz screen can't see without paying 100$ anyways?

    • @Notyouraveragename

Yeah honestly. I still really like my 800-1000$ 3060ti (240$) 64 gb vram (140$), 2-4 tb m2 ssd with 5000 mb/s speeds. (70$ for 2 tb intel drive, and 2tb from old ssds lying around).
I do kinda feel like for my pc, there's a set cost of around 300-400$ just for the frame, body, and motherboard (Unless you want to put a graphics card into a 100$ + monitor ddr3 build...).
I spent like 100$ on a 13100 intel cpu, i might have overspent 140$ vs 60-80$ for the motherboard (Intel's cpu was 10$ cheaper, but the board might have been 120$ to 80$. I might have paid +40$ for 64 gb 160$ ddr5 vs 120$ ddr4)
But i still love my pc. It's god amazing getting a literal 5x more performance and i bought it since my old pre gpu shortage 1000$ 64 gb ram, 2 tb ssd laptop only had a welded on 4gb 1650. (aka, brand new 1000$ computer with a 150$ graphics card. It was legitimately the best i could find in 100 store models, with costco offering 1600$ models for 8->16 gb ram.. 512 gb ssd, and no graphics card.. Just 50% slower intel xe.)
I did notice heat went up a lot to a little toaster oven even going from 80 watts to 220 watts on my 3060ti. But i swear some overclock, i saw underclocking in the nvidia alt + z menu.. And i can get 70-80% of the performance for 50% the watts getting 150-200 fps on 100 watts when i just want to game without heat or leave it genning stable diffusion all night without worrying about card stress on 70 C vs 45C temps. (I didn't really think about heat, but it's like a little furnace going off, the metal case is oven hot to the touch though the fans work so well, it cools from 70C to 40C in 5 seconds of inactivity).
At first i was skeptical of pc building.. But legitimately.. Open store boxes are such a scam. I still had to spend 4-6 hours putting all the parts together vs 1-3 as a first timer (didn't want to ruin any parts).. But no lie... It costs 1600-3000$ to get 20 gb ram from a store and a shitty graphics card with a shitty 512-1 tb ssd..
It cost me a third to get 3x more ram, (64 might be overkill), it runs butter smooth. i can underclock to get 80% of performance for half the electricity (and 45C vs 70C), the fans are beastly.
And i can really see this pc lasting me 6-10 years with maybe a gpu replacement for another 200 fps specs in 5-7 years for 300-500$ while a new computer easily can run 500-1000$ for a 20-54 fps model...
There's a lot of headache sure.. But building a pc meant to last and getting 5x more fps performance for cost, 4x-8x more storage for cost, 2-3x more ram, and upgradable for the same price rocks!!!!

That card was in a purchase with a 16gb DDR4 kit of Gskill ram, which after shipping ran me about $89. Basically put that GTX 1060 in the $60+ range for me if you subtract the rams value from the amount paid. That was a pretty solid deal. The card really does still game well, and you also get to benefit from FSR for games that support it, to get that extra performance boost for 1080p gaming.

Oh wow the 60 series are a good card, i think they only improve +13% fps per generation. 3 gb might be a bit low, (I had tons of problems with my 4 gb 1650's vram just being too slow to run sd at all, or rdr2 past medium settings).
But 37$ is a steal if you're budget minded or get one of those motherboards that could support 2 graphics cards!
It's not the highest end model, but i paid 240$ for my 8 gb 3060ti which should have about 225% fps performance over the 1060..
But i paid 250$ and your paid 37$ For the price or frames per dollar, you got 3x a better deal and if im getting 200-300 fps, yours is still probably 90-150 fps which is still plenty!
Your card is very similar to the other budget king, the Rx 580 which delivers about the same performance but for 80$-120$ new. That card of yours is definitely a steal for frames per dollar! Just you might not be able to get as much texture detail for like ultra hd shadows and might need to do low/medium. But 70-100 fps for gaming when most screens are only 75-100 hz/fps is super fair. And that's a super deal for 300% more frames/dollar that still should hit 70-100+ fps!

Umm. Couldn't painting the cpu cooler mess a ton with the thermal dissipation or possibly fry a computer (if you let any paint drip onto any delicate parts, or if the paint melted or degraded over time?)
I admit im not a expert, but newegg usually has a lot of models to shop around for. It's probably easier and safer to shop around on newegg for a model you like. And while i got like a 1000$ computer, i don't really feel like the cpu gets very hot relative to the gpu. (Though, i did spend 10$ on 7x more heat transfer thermal paste meant for overclocking, 15 W/m^2 or something vs 1.7 W/m^2 or something for 10$). And it sits super cool just being superchilled by the metal heat sink (fan barely runs at all and it's cozy).
But i mean.. I might have overdone it a lil. I think like cpu gaming is like 80% your graphics card, 10% your ram, and 4-5% your cpu (unless bottlenecked). I think i did like a Intel 13100 (If i rebuilt today, the 12100 is 98% the performance for 100$ vs 110$ and fairly decent bang for buck on 1-4 core performance until 8 core).
I still like having a fancy ass cooler though. I guess the 13100 from best buy came with a stock cooler (despite 0 mention), and im happy with the massive heatsinks potentially cooling it 4x better passively with the coconut vs mandarin sized heat plate dissipation and the super thermal paste.
I still would feel a little hesitant about spray painting though since just 1 thing goes wrong.. and frying a 1000$ computer to paint the insides a different color just gives me a lil gulp. (Or potentially frying their whole pc if the paint kept too much heat in / ruined thermal conductivity/degraded under heat).
      To each their own though!
