  • I was very happy to see some new changes in the pursuit line of reels from penn. I've had the pursuit 2 in the past and they served me well. I'm waiting to see if the pursuit 4 will outshine the previous versions because so far it is looking promising.

    Hi , I have 2 PP 8000 IV , weight is 810 Gr about 29 ounces , heavy but not unreasonable based on the line capacity , 345 yards of 85 lbs braid.
    I found it heavy but compared it to Daiwa with the same line capacity and ended up about even.
    I may get some 6000 series to save some weight , as long as it holds about 300 yards of PE# 4 braid.
    Thanks for the info.

      @@tackleaddictgy the pinion gear. The teeth or whatever you call them broke off. Couldn’t even turn it anymore and had to hand reel the fish in. I had the pursuit 3 for over a year and caught a lot of fish on it. I still have a 5000 size pursuit 4 for catfish but im not confident with it makes me nervous the gears will break too with a pb striper or catfish.

      @@jamesstewart2560 I strongly feel the main gear will break before the pinion gear. The main gear is the silver one and is made of a cheap material. The pinion is made from bronze which is a stonger material. Ah well! hope you enjoying the shimano

    Hey my drag knob is wobbly and I don't know if it affects the strength or the durability for it( is there a part online for the Penn pursuit 4 6000?)

    • @tackleaddictgy
      @tackleaddictgy  Рік тому +1

      Yeah you can easily source a drag knob and replace it. And in terms of it affecting the strength #1 depends on the amount of wobble (because definitely a part inside the knob is either slack or damage) #2 if that's the case then it can loose tension under load.

    Hello great detail review. You stated that you had greased the reel. What type and name of grease did you use. Thanks.

    • @tackleaddictgy
      @tackleaddictgy  Рік тому +1

      In terms of grease I'm not brand specific. I went to a local shop and ask to see a few different type and I choose the 1 that isn't too thick but thick enough for fishing reel gears. There isn't no magic grease that will make your reel indestructible. But the right thickness will make your reel perform good. Too thick it will be sluggish and too thin it will wear faster. Hope I was of help. Please don't forget to subscribe

    • @tackleaddictgy

      You can if you want to but having a ball bearing there with out being seal will get damage faster from the saltwater. I would recommend leaving it as it is.

    I just tore down a Battle III 6000LE and there is so much that is similar here. I mean maybe 90% identical parts.
    Main gear of course is different. 6000 size had a brass CNC cut gear. Line holder in the spool and some other fit/finish stuff. Example: Battle III side plate had the black coating inside and this reel was bare metal. Not exactly stuff I’d call a deal breaker or much reason to step up for the price difference.
    Most everything else inside looks to be the same.

    • @tackleaddictgy

    After using all my reels including my pursuit 4 reeling in crab snare’s which I understand is very hard on reels they become extremely rough.
