I needed to redo part of my speaker upgrade because one of my Kicker DS 6x9's on the passenger side went bad two months outside of the Warranty. Even though I did this in the past your video was better than ones I watched over two years ago. Very clear and well filmed steps. Watching the video along with the Crutchfield instruction sheets helped me replace my broken front door speaker with a new set with speed and ease.
I've got a 2018 Tacoma SR5 double cab. Your videos for the entire speaker upgrade really helped in me getting the sound quality to an entirely new level. All of the genres of music I like listening to come across as a whole new experience. I appreciate your time and effort, it helped me out tremendously.
Appreciate the positive feedback Chris! Totally agree! Songs I’ve listened to a hundred times sound way different and better! Thanks for watching my friend!
Thanks for doing this video. I did the tweeter upgrade a few years ago, but was afraid to do the door speakers. But I can tell 90% of my sound is coming from the tweeters, so I decided to dive in 🌊
Great videos with great pointers. One thing I did was to use a 5 gallon bucket to place the door panels on so I didn’t have to mess with the cable assembly for the door handle. Thanks so much!
This is my new favorite channel :) I just put in Kicker Speakers in my 2016 F150. What an improvement! I also got the easy connect harness. No cutting or splicing 👌
I replaced the front door speakers in my Tacoma today and I was shocked at how cheaply made the factory speakers are. I also did a few things slightly different than you. I zip tied the extra loose wire from the new harness to the speaker frame so there was not wires dangling that may get caught on the window regulator when it goes up and down. Also, there is a hole in the plastic for the speaker adapter to run the wire harness through. I drilled another hole about 1/2" away and I ran a zip tie through it and around the wire harness that was sticking out. Once the speaker was installed and plugged into the factory harness, I pushed the new harness back into the hole slightly, then I tightened the zip tie. That way the new harness is not bouncing around. Also, before I mated the speaker to the plastic adapter, I ran a small bead of silicone around the speaker then mated it to the adapter and screwed them together. I wanted to make extra sure they were solid together and there would not be any rattling.
Another excellent helpful video! Was able to swap these speakers out no problem. One thing to note is that if the while tab gets stuck in the door when you pull the panel out, remove the while clips of the door, install it on the the panel before re attaching it back to the door.
Thanks! Your video helped me get my door off to fix my speaker. Mine is a Bose because of my package, but I was in an accident and the body shop replaced my door and the speaker has been cutting in and out, driving me nuts. Turns out, they just set the connection on top and didn't click it in. 🙄 Works now though, so thanks again!
I just switched out my tweeters, that alone does make a nice difference. Gonna wait for the weekend to do the doors, but with your informative, step by step instructions, should be a piece of cake. And btw, you speak French like it's your native language! 😀😀
Hahaha I try to avoid using too much “French” in videos but sometimes it just blurts out lol! Glad you’re noticing a difference already! Just wait until you get the speakers in! Thanks for watching Rixter!
Just wanna say thank you. Ended up ordering the front door speakers, harness, and speaker adapters. I honestly cant wait to do the install myself on Friday. These stock speakers are straight garbage.
Flint Layfield oh yeah! They were bad! The new ones crank out much clearer sound! I’m not one to blast my music and shake my truck to death but I do like my music to be clear. And the old speakers were no better than alarm clock radio speakers. Seriously they were bad.
Just did this on 22 Tacoma with base, nonjbl, speakers. Back door speakers had totally different plugs on them compared to front speakers. Front door speakers made biggest difference. Changed front tweeters and it helps with vocal highs. Back doors are better but still ok with additional amp
This video helped me tremendously!!! You’re the only one who shows the true installation of a speaker to the speaker mounting bracket. Real quick, did you not use the black speed clips?
I tried to be as straightforward as possible. What you saw me use was the way to go. I don’t recall any black clips of any kind. Black clips for wires?
I watched your video to install the Subaru Kicker tweeters in my '21 TRD OR DC. I definitely notice an improvement in the audio. I think I will be ordering this kicker set to replace the door speakers next.
Thanks for watching my tweeter video! You’ll notice an even bigger difference once this go in. Trust me you’ll be happy you swapped them! Rock on Yates! 👍
@@jollypearltank8935 no problem. I feel it’s about 15% louder. Not much but it’s noticeable. Again, I was going for more clarity. An amp would allow the speakers more power.
Thank You for this. Exactly what I was looking for was an informative video on how to upgrade speakers in an access cab tacoma. Your videos are great 👍
Superb video. I watched it several times and my speaker swap was done (all 4 doors) in less than an hour. Also, mine has the factory JBL system and the front 6x9 do have larger magnets but still less than half the size of the upgrades. The rears are the size of a quarter. Sounds awesome now and can really feel more bass. Cheers!
Glad to hear you upgraded your speakers while you actually have a jbl system and so do I on my 2022 sport with JBL Have you experience any down sides after you upgraded the speakers I’m done with my garbage speakers abut I’m concerned if I would have any issues sound wise. Thanks hope I can get your feedback
Thanks for the detailed step by step install. I am going to do this to my 2019 TRD Off Road but I have no patients and am scared I will force something and break it. I will have it done by a pro. But at least I know the process now and know which speakers to get me some great sounds in my Taco. Thanks

The only problem I ran into was some of the white door panel button stayed in the door and not on the panel so when I put it together it didn't fit firm on some. So if any of yall doing this make sure you take all the white button type fasteners out of the door and put them on the back of the panel 1st lol
Excellent video. Only note I would make is where you duct tape the excess wire: I would use wiring loom and ziptie it. This prevents friction in the long term. Friction can expose the wire and potentially cause electrical problems.
Hey Ryan, did you go with the Kickers and do you feel the need to add an amp? I’m about to do the same to my Tacoma and I’m seeing some people have mixed feelings. How do you feel after 3 months?
@@apolloorosco6852 hey man, I installed them. Super easy just use the suggested tools so you don’t mess up your interior. I watched the video like 3 times before I did it and I managed to not mess much up. By the third door (I did front and back) you have it down pat. Sounds amazing, hoped this helped.
I just did this to my Tacoma. I have a couple of additional notes. The screws provided with the speakers don't 'bite' into really anything. If you don't address this I think they will vibrate loose. In the bag that the screws came in there are 90 degree screw backs (thin metal). I took some tin snips and cut them so that I had a flat screw backing. I used needle nose pliers on the square that I made out of the 90 degree screw back. I then screwed them down into the squares (on the back of the speaker adapter), they are not going anywhere. I also noticed on the back of the old speakers there was some black felt. I'll bet this is for vibration as well. I trimmed some felt and put some on the back of the new speaker bracket. I got the felt from a hobby store ($5), it had adhesive on one side. I recommend doing the same. One additional note, assemble the speaker into the mount and the wire harness in the house/AC. When you are ready to install them it will take about 10 min per door (maybe a bit longer on the first one as you learn).
One other thing, the back speakers put out very little volume. Unless you get an amp, there is no point in replacing the rear ones. The tweeters in the dash should be changed though, big gains there as well. Just put in the plug and play Kicker branded Subaru's (google it). It's worth pointing out that this does NOT work for those with the JBL system. They use different speaker connectors.
Thanks to your videos I was able to install all six speakers in my 2017 Tacoma sr with no problems. Mine had no speakers in the rear doors at all but was able to find the wires behind the panels and get them installed and working.
Thank you so much for the helpful video! Quick question, do you know if the install is the same if you have the JBL system? I’m just looking to replace the door speakers and tweeters. Thanks in advance!
When re-installing the top triangle plastic piece, make sure to pull the white tabs back out carefully, put them on the triangle ocrner piece, and then install it. I tried popping it in like in the video and all 3 white backing fell inside of the door. Have to use an endoscope and claw to pull them out. :( 2022 tacoma btw, so brand new parts.
you can use a metal wire, bend a little hook at the end and fish them out, it wasn't too bad. I think I removed the mirror to see inside better. But you should try and get them out aso they don't rattle.
Thats a great video! Thanks. Did the new speakers play only bass? Or all range of sound? I am asking because many people saying the front door speakers are actually woofers. And its only for bass. Other saying that most of the sound levels came from the tweeter only (dash speakers).
Hey Hemi! These speakers play a range of sound. My new tweeters play the high sounds better than the previous set! All around the sound was improved! Thanks for watching!
Great video! So, are these component speakers and did the truck have a factory amp? Thanks!! Looking to install in my Camry SE 2011 (factory JBL setup)
Hey Moe! I saw your other comment as well. Not sure if they are component speakers exactly. You can check with crutchfield.com to be sure. There is no amp on the truck. Thanks for watching!
I did in my tacoma 2020 the sound is really great, I want to put a sub woofer, is my next step, thank you sir !!! let me know about the subwoofer ?????
Thanks you Moe! Not sure if they were component speakers. It’s been a while since I installed them. You can check with crutchfield.com to get more specific answers to your questions. The truck does not have an amp. Thanks again for watching!
Does upgrading the speakers and not the head unit make a huge difference? In the past I've always upgraded the head unit but now I want to keep the infotainment system...
Would it be possible to replace the sub woofer speaker only with out replacing the box and the amp? Great video already replaced 4 speakers and the tweeters
I messed up on my adapter bracket. I had the face cover on like an idiot so I had to modify adapter a lot just to take cover off and have more wiggle room. It’s okay I used clips provided to mount the adapter to speaker and it’s nice and tight. I’ve pull tested it, seems sturdy. May consider buying a new set as they’re only $20 bucks
Great video im installing kickers on my 22 taco trd sport I'm hoping they're gonna make a big difference and im thinking about adding a amp if im not impressed
Help me out, I have a 2019 double cab with a powered 10” sub and subaru tweeters already. If I were to upgrade my door panel speakers to Kicker/Rocksford Fosgate, would I need to get a new head unit?
Yep! Extremely clear compared to the stock speakers. You don’t need an amp. You could put one in. That would maximize your volume. But the clarity is already there. Thanks for watching!
I got Infinity speakers for my 2019 TRD Off Road, I think one of the rear door speakers weighs more than all four of the factory ones. Getting a 2021 this week, ordering the same speakers and want to install them myself this time.
Did you have any trouble with rattles after the install? The speakers in my 2019 were "professionally" installed and the drivers door panel has rattled since.
@@wickedmuffin76 no rattles whatsoever Mark! If you snug them down you shouldn’t have any issues! 👍 your previous ones must not have been bolted down all the way.
@@GarageGear If I were keeping it I would probably take it apart to investigate, but now I'll let the dealer figure it out. They know about it, I didn't hide it.
Hey Amy! Good question! I didn’t do it and my truck sounds great. I would imagine this would improve sound a little bit but I got great sound without it. Thanks for watching!
I did this about a month ago, added sound deadening material as well. Did all 4 doors as well as the tweeters from suburu. Was easy to do but still sounds like crap. As mentioned an amp is needed and those install videos don't seem very difficult. Itll do for now
I have a 2022 TRD Sport and used the same speaker and speaker brackets, but the driver’s side door panel seems to be not flush now. The door is closing, but it’s clear the speaker is causing the panel to be out from the way it was with the stocker. Any issues on your end with the same thing? Thanks!
Great question Jeffrey! No issues with this on my end. Did you install the bracket correctly? Double check that because if it’s only happening on one door something must be up there! Thanks for watching!
great install video. question about the wiring harness 72-8104. im being told that 72-8019 is the correct harness but your link takes us too 72-8014. what year is your tacoma? i have a 2020 and trying to buy the correct harness
@@nguyentanle1341 I have everything linked in the description. The ones that come with the actual speakers won’t fit on Tacomas. They must be ordered separately.

Hey David, I did replace the tweeters with Subaru tweeters. I should have that video linked in the description. All speakers were replaced on this truck. Thanks for checking out my channel!
Will the Kicker speaker kit (tweeters, 6 x 9, rear door speakers) work with 2016 Tacoma JBL system? I've read the tweeters are not plug and play with the JBL system.
Hey Nico! If your goal is volume then I would probably go with an amp. These speakers provide the clarity and a little volume boost. Thanks for watching!
Great video, but if you would (I may have missed something here) why did you replace the tweeters with another set of OEM tweeters from Subaru instead of an aftermarket set?
At the time when I filmed these videos these were the only ones available. There may be others out now I’m not sure. These definitely clean up the sound significantly and they are relatively easy to put in. Thanks for checking out my channel!
I want to upgrade for sure, but I don't think I want to invest in the full set. Maybe 2 of the 3. What order would you put them in as far as biggest improvement to overall sound? My guess is front doors, then tweeters, then rear doors.
That’s the order I would do. Having all three really cleans the sound up the best. I noticed a HUGE difference just with the tweeters alone. Thanks for checking out my channel grumpchong! 👍
You could do an amp but it’s not required. Sounds great without one. I would like to figure out how to install an amp. Could be a future video! Thanks for watching!
So I got kickers KS in the front and CS in the back, however ALL bass was gone and it sounded much clearer and crisp, but bass is ABSENT did I do something wrong?
Will this work for a 2008 Toyota Tacoma sport it's got the JBL factory system now but will these speakers work on that year vehicle because I know you're Toyota is a lot newer
@@joelvansteenhouse6923 I imagine that they are the same. But you may want to double check on crutchfield.com to see for your exact model! Thanks for watching bud!

So I placed the order for all 3 components but the plug and play were not available can you send me the link for the plug and play wires can’t find your link
Shaun Carberry I was gonna ask the same thing. I added Noico to the back wall of my access cab just yesterday and did NOT notice a discernible difference - I’m thinking the access cab doors might be the largest contributor especially those large storage compartments in the cab doors. BUT maybe all the noise is com8mg form those vents in the rear panel? I didn’t cover those up cause I’ve seen some are saying the a/c and heater blower would have to work harder if those vents are sealed???
Shaun Carberry sorry just saw this comment now for some reason. My brother used that stuff a while back on a car and said there wasn’t much of a difference so I decided to just go with the speaker install. I’m happy the way it turned out. Thanks for watching and commenting!
This might be a dumb question, but I did this instal but most of the melody and vocals seem to come from the passenger side door. Are the speakers specific to driver vs/passenger side or does it matter?
Eddie Britt Good question but I’m afraid I don’t have a good answer for you. I would say check your equalizers and presets first on your touchscreen. See if everything is even in the cab there. Then if you must, recheck your wiring and test your speakers to make sure they are working properly. I’m wondering if it may be just the specific songs your playing possibly too. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
I have a quick question I clicked on the link for the front door speaker brackets and it said that it doesnt fit a 2017 toyota tacoma even though your truck looks like its similar?
Marco Aguilar amazon isn’t always caught up on the latest upgrade information from what I found. You can double check the bracket numbers on Crutchfield.com to see if they are a match.
If you are cranking up your music all the time then you may want to consider it. But if you’re like me and you only crank it up once and a while then it’s not necessary. Sounds great inside either way! Thanks for checking out my channel Vertmert!

Thanks to your videos I was able to install all six speakers in my 2017 Tacoma sr with no problems. Mine had no speakers in the rear doors at all but was able to find the wires behind the panels and get them installed and working.
Hey Ken! Glad you found these videos helpful! Big difference huh? Thanks for watching!
You did a great video and detail instructed 👌
Thanks for watching! 👍
Thank you so much for the helpful video! Quick question, do you know if the install is the same if you have the JBL system? I’m just looking to replace the door speakers and tweeters. Thanks in advance!
Hey Zachary, not sure if it’s the same or not. You can check out crutchfield.com for more information with your model! Thanks for watching
Same thing just happened to me today. Never found them. So disappointing
Thanks for sharing soda!
@@titoE9008 bummer! Thanks for sharing!
Same thing just happened to me! Fuuuuuuuug. I might have to glue it back on!!!! Don’t think I’ll find them again
you can use a metal wire, bend a little hook at the end and fish them out, it wasn't too bad.
Hey hernan! No problem! I don’t have a sub woofer in my truck at the moment. When I get around to it I’ll keep you posted! Thanks for watching!
Great video! So, are these component speakers and did the truck have a factory amp? Thanks!!
The speakers alone made a big difference!
Would it be possible to replace the sub woofer speaker only with out replacing the box and the amp? Great video already replaced 4 speakers and the tweeters
I would say so but to confirm this you may want to give a call to crutchfield.com and ask them there. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the speaker/tweeter recommendation and the video. Just upgraded my speakets sounds 100% better.
It’s a night and day difference! Thanks for checking out my channel!
Do we need to get a aftermarket amplifier? Or just the speakers?
@@mjavis859 I just got the speakers
Big magnet did u add bigger power ??or are they underpowered
I didn’t add an amp. The speakers alone cleared up the sound for me. Thanks for watching!
@@GarageGear thanks I got some yesterday. Sounds a crap load better than the factory speakers
@@madscientist6869 no problem my friend!
Can you reuse the wiring harness from the factory speaker? My new speakers didn’t come with the plug in play wires
I suppose so. Not sure if this could affect the sound quality or not. Thanks for watching!
To be fair, neodymium magnets (OEM) are 2-7x stronger than ferrite (Kicker) ones. Great video!
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for sharing Daniel!
Great video im installing kickers on my 22 taco trd sport I'm hoping they're gonna make a big difference and im thinking about adding a amp if im not impressed
Thank you ROCK ON my friend! 👍
Help me out, I have a 2019 double cab with a powered 10” sub and subaru tweeters already. If I were to upgrade my door panel speakers to Kicker/Rocksford Fosgate, would I need to get a new head unit?
@@bozzyyy not sure! I would check with crutchfield.com
I’m trying to figure out which kind of speakers to get for my Tacoma. But don’t know much about speakers.
Why did you choose these over others?
I simply shows these for their good sound and plug and play easy install. The pump out some great sound. Thanks for watching!
So all you did was swap speakers on stock system ? No amp ? and the sound is noticeable better ?
Awesome my friend! Congrats on your purchase! Should be a straightforward install with only some minor differences.
@@wickedmuffin76 it’s in their hands now! 👍
Is it worth the hassle installing foam behind the speakers?
Itll do for now
TacticalTaco get an amp! Give it a shot and let me know how it goes!
Did you ever get this resolved? Wanting to do this for my 22' Sport :)
Do you know if their is a plug and play subwoofer upgrade? I have the jbl package and subwoofer is nice but I want it louder
Not sure but you can see if there is one available on crutchfield.com. Thanks for watching!
great install video. question about the wiring harness 72-8104. im being told that 72-8019 is the correct harness but your link takes us too 72-8014. what year is your tacoma? i have a 2020 and trying to buy the correct harness
I have a 2019 Tacoma. It should work for you. I can’t imagine them changing it. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
do the double cabs use the same speakers in the back?
Not exactly sure. You can check on crutchfield.com thanks for watching!
Does the stock head unit have enough juice to power them?
Plenty but if you’re looking for even more volume look at an amp.
Would you need an amp to run them speakers ? Or are they just fine with the swap ?
I didn’t bother with an amp but if you want even more volume you’ll need one! Thanks for watching
What year is your Tacoma? Mine is a 2022 SR5. The wiring harnesses for the front door speakers say they won’t fit.
I have a 2019 Tacoma trd off road. Check with crutchfield.com to see what May fit your model best. Thanks for watching
When order 6x9 frint speakers. Does it come with brackets?
@@nguyentanle1341 I have everything linked in the description. The ones that come with the actual speakers won’t fit on Tacomas. They must be ordered separately.
Hello, Quick question on the speaker harness. Did you use Metra 72-8104? I am going to use a similar setup on a 2020 4Runner. Thank you in advance.
All the items I used are linked below in the description! If you go on crutchfield.com you’ll be able to find exactly what will fit your 4 runner! Thanks for watching bacon!
I’m getting the same speakers from kickers to replace my stock speakers on my 2011 tacoma. Did you also replace the tweeters with kicker speakers?
Hey David, I did replace the tweeters with Subaru tweeters. I should have that video linked in the description. All speakers were replaced on this truck. Thanks for checking out my channel!
Will the Kicker speaker kit (tweeters, 6 x 9, rear door speakers) work with 2016 Tacoma JBL system? I've read the tweeters are not plug and play with the JBL system.
Not sure. You’ll have to check on crutchfield.com to see if they fit! Thanks for watching!
I lost all 3 clips on both sides of the truck trying to put that triangular piece in. Any tips?
I believe you can order more of those clips online (eBay perhaps) or a Toyota dealership parts department possibly.
So at what point do you need a bigger amp for upgraded speakers?
Gotcha! Thanks!
Does all the speakers upgrade work with a stock radio head?
Mine did! Should be good to go! 👍
Is the wiring harness the same for jbl equipped vehicles?
Good question! Not totally sure. You may want to check with crutchfield.com. They should have an answer for you. Thanks for watching Duck Fan!
Are the tweeters and door speakers wired together on the same "front" channel?
Good question! I’m not totally sure. You can give a call to crutchfield.com and ask a representative there. Thanks for watching Joshua!
Did you have to add a amplifier later or was the stock radio strong enough?
For me the stock radio is strong enough but if you’re looking for more sound/volume get an amp. I was looking for more clarity. Thanks for watching!
Great video--But I bought the the kit and the connector is not compatible with my '19 Tacoma Pro with the OEM JBL. :(
Thanks for the feedback back! I heard that JBL systems are a bit different after making this video. Thanks for watching!
Do I want to do this as I have the JBL system with a sub woofer?
I’d say your good if the sound quality is there
I want to upgrade for sure, but I don't think I want to invest in the full set.
Does this system require an amp will the stock radio supply enough power. Thinking these speakers might require more power??????????
You could do an amp but it’s not required. Sounds great without one. I would like to figure out how to install an amp. Could be a future video! Thanks for watching!
When clicking the link for speaker harness Amazon says it does not fit 3rd gen is this a for sure fit
Links can change from time to time. Mine fit. You can always reference the fit on crutchfield.com thanks for watching
Do you know if these speakers would fit in the front doors of a Toyota Tundra?? I know that Tundras and Tacomas use 6x9s for the front doors.
Grant DeLaney not exactly sure. You can go on Crutchfield.com, plug in your tundra model and find out.
Question! Do you not swap the old amp for a better amp?
You could swap the amp but I did not. Thanks for watching!
How do you speakers sound with a stock head unit?
Clarity is great! If you want to kick the volume up you’ll need to do an amp.
So I got kickers KS in the front and CS in the back, however ALL bass was gone and it sounded much clearer and crisp, but bass is ABSENT did I do something wrong?
Hey Nick did you check the settings on your head unit?
Hey I had a question would these speakers work as both front and rear speakers in a crew cab 3rd gen tacoma?
Possibly! Check on crutchfield.com to ensure your fit. Thanks for watching!
Do the brackets not come with the speakers?
No you’ll have to buy them separately. Mine are linked in the description!
Will this work for a 2008 Toyota Tacoma sport it's got the JBL factory system now but will these speakers work on that year vehicle because I know you're Toyota is a lot newer

Garage Gear Off-road 2020.
Walter they may have slightly changed the touchscreen but your speaker set up should be similar.
I had the same speaker swap out except I put Subaru tweeters. Sound so much better now but I would like to add an amp to the system now. Can you or anyone recommend an amp that is recommend for this setup ? Thanks

Some videos I have seen they have used the sound deadening Mats, i see you didn't use them, any reason ? Do actually make a difference?
Walter thanks for your comment! Interesting you did not notice a big change.
Garage Gear thank you!!
Does the speaker size matter depending on if you have an access cab or double cab?
Access cab and double cab speakers may be the same size but you can confirm this on crutchfield.com. Thanks for watching!
any opinions on using sound deadening material?
