Thanks so much for all the tips! I just got a leopard frog (still a tadpole) and I have no idea what to do! I inherited him from the preschool where I work. Nobody wanted him and I felt bad for the little fella! I hope I can make him a nice habitat!
I'm in the same situation, I took the tadpole from our classroom home because nobody wanted him. I'm trying my best to take care of him but I can't find a lot of info. I could definitely use some tips!
Anya device on pickeral frogs? I rescue them from our pool occasionally and eventually I’d like to keep one. All my pets eat non live food and though it’s fresh the rescued frogs don’t seem interested. Any ideas of fresh but non live foods? I know it’s not everyone’s personal choice, but I’ve had live crickets and insects kill pets before as well as insect parasites transferred over and since going non live but canned or packaged fresh my spider sand reptiles have been thriving better. I’ve seen a channel where frogs eat a special gel or paste of some kind made up for frog diets but the individual didn’t speak English so I wasn’t able to find out what they use. If you have any advice let me know.
Great tips, you really know your biological care full spectrum bub. I will mention: We recently learned a cat watering fountain was leaching plastics into the water. The pump itself had plastic components breaking down, adding plastic to the water. An elderly cat that loved the fountain died sooner than we expected. That cat water fountain made another cat sick afterwards, so I inspected the pump and found the deteriorating plastic. It wasn't even a Year Old! So might want to consider making your own watering system pumps out of stainless and copper. Just a thought.
Purrty good, Josue. I used to catch leopard frogs as a kid. It was a lot of fun doing that. It is good to see one again. The tips are good. I'm surprised that wood is one of the parts of the mix since I've mostly seen them in the muck and on small logs. The amount of cypress would have to be calculated, of course, and how much you use would put that into account as well. Good work. Take care and have fun!
Its just a little better for the plants and helps to keep the substrate loose for they can burrow. I would like to have a more swampy vibe but that's coming soon!
Tysm i needed to get reaserch about them! All i have been finding on google is like” you have to pay 20 million diamonds to buy one” or “they are as rare as seeing the real titanic” or anything like that. Ty this really helped
I get the Southern Leopard Frog in my yard in water buckets I keep in summer months for birds and wildlife. Here in Texas, south of Austin. They can get pretty big. Some years I don't see any. Seems like they almost follow cicada population patterns (?).
I had one once, my best advice is you clean the tank daily and make for damn sure you have a locking lid on your tank because they are escape artists and will litterally eat anything that fits in their mouth mine got out because it squeezed itself through a 1/4 inch gap that the developed over time
Thank you! Mine just went through metamorphosis a few weeks ago and is now a juvenile frog. He/she is starting to get that beautiful leopard pattern on the legs, it's so cool to see! When do they typically reach their full adult size/color? Also, how many crickets per day is good for a newly grown leopard frog? Should I be feeding other insects as well and how often? I've been feeding around 2-4 small crickets a day, but it seems the frog could keep eating if I allowed it lol. I don't want to overfeed, but I want to make sure he/she is getting enough nutrients.
But the crickets I would feed each maybe 2 or 3 maybe twice a week if they’ll take them! They will normally stop eating when they’re full! At least mine did!
Oh nice, somebody else with a name I have as well! Never seen that on UA-cam, it’s a very uncommon name. I also have an interest for amphibians and reptiles!
Yea I’m pretty sure they do hibernate in the winter time. But in captivity I wouldn’t worry too much about it! I normally just keep with the usual routine!
They are super cool frogs to have. Tree frogs are way easier to keep in my opinion. They more terrestrial frogs are harder to get setup if they are semi aquatic as well.
My 9 year old granddaughter wants a Leopard Frog but she'll have to keep it here and she usually only comes on weekends to every other weekend once school starts. Of course she promised me she'll take care of the frog but logistically I don't see this happening. Another thing just how expensive would it be to set up a tank that is a healthy environment? We have a 10 gallon regular tank but in all fairness it doesn't look like it would fit all it's needs and money is tight. Any suggestions?
It depends on how you want to set it up. There's different ways. Ive seen people use just aquarium rocks water and a filter. As long as you have a large enough water bowl they should be fine for the most part
my grandson caught some tadpoles, turned frog still have tails, look like leopard frogs. we've been keeping them in the pond water they came out of... is that bad? he plays with them all day
I have a older leopard frog that I raised I was wondering if there’s a way you could tell me it’s gender I’ve been saying it’s a male because I named it Thor

Just stay tuned I will definitely be doing more with this species soon!

This is very helpful because I have a leopard frog tadpole
They are a awesome species!
Nice, it sounds pretty similar to that of which a bullfrog needs
Yea pretty much the same lol

That’s a great thing to let me know. I will always keep this in my mind with building enclosures. Because that’s crazy. I’m sorry about your cat!
Hell Yeah Josue..Awesome video
Thanks brotha! Now I need to move to that 4k
Your a pretty smart man and make sure you keep your frogs moist 🤣😂 j/k luv ya dude!
Appreciate it as always! 😍

Glad you found this useful! I really enjoy this species in particular! They are awesome frogs as pets!
@@JosuesExotics yes!
Hello great video information Josue
Gotta keep it coming with the educational content.

That’s pretty interesting theory. I think you may just have not gotten lucky to having a breeding pair near. But idk it’s hard to say.
Thank you.
You're welcome!
Great tips dude! Are leopard frogs real vocal?? I love the sounds a lot of frogs make!
I haven't heard them until recently. I had them pretty much as babies and they are about a year old now I think?
I had one once, my best advice is you clean the tank daily and make for damn sure you have a locking lid on your tank because they are escape artists and will litterally eat anything that fits in their mouth mine got out because it squeezed itself through a 1/4 inch gap that the developed over time
They are an awesome species of frog! I had one get out once as well. They can squeeze through the smallest of spaces!

Hell yea! Appreciate you stopping by! Gotta catch up on some of your videos today!
Oh nice, somebody else with a name I have as well! Never seen that on UA-cam, it’s a very uncommon name. I also have an interest for amphibians and reptiles!
It’s definitely an uncommon name! What all species do you keep?
good tips
Thanks!
I've read that they hibernate during winter, is this true and should I do anything different come winter for them?
Yea I’m pretty sure they do hibernate in the winter time. But in captivity I wouldn’t worry too much about it! I normally just keep with the usual routine!
@@JosuesExotics amazing, thank you! :)
Leopard Frogs never heared of them love learning about animals I have no clue about and may never own but who knows hhaaha
They are super cool frogs to have. Tree frogs are way easier to keep in my opinion. They more terrestrial frogs are harder to get setup if they are semi aquatic as well.
How do I clean a tank with live plants? Don’t I need to switch out all of the substrate every couple weeks?
I've cached a baby leapord frog😄😁
Awesome!

I’m pretty sure that’s okay. I means that’s what I would have done! The more natural the better in my opinion!
What kind of live plants can you put with them?
I would get some vine type plants. They are pretty hardy plants
What if you have a Northern instead of a Southern? Any difference in temperatures, habitat, etc?
I'm pretty sure it should be slightly the same. I would definitely look into to it and see.
My baby leopard frog that has no back legs won’t eat, what do I do?
That’s no bueno. Where did you get him?
What do you feed leopard frogs if they are only one half inch long?
They have pin head crickets you can get that would probably work
Can you feed them night crawlers ?
they eat just about anything lol
I have a older leopard frog that I raised I was wondering if there’s a way you could tell me it’s gender I’ve been saying it’s a male because I named it Thor
That's definitely something I will have to look into. I'm not exactly sure on how to tell the sexes apart. Very good question though!
@@JosuesExotics and my leopard frog actually loves to be handled he enjoys it
About the handling on the first part, instead of gloves just get you're palm wet, it's better than the oils that are on your skin
This is very true. The gloves can be an over exaggeration but still a useful tip!
Can I wear gloves while handling them?
You can! It will definitely help if you need to handle them!
