Hi REM thanks for Tree update. I put in Maluma right when we got them. It’s about 6ft right now and I’ve already had to prune it back to get it to grow more upright.
Hi Pat, I should have put mine in a little earlier. The roots were coming out of the bottom of the sleeve and it was a little tough ripping the roots out and replanting it in the spot that it's in right now. Next year it should really take off so I'm curious to see how it's going to do. Thanks for watching!
Your Mexicola looks like its doing better then before and I am glad you were able to get at least one fruit. Sorry to hear about your Gwen. It's a great tree and its ability to produce a lot of fruit is a blessing and a curse. Thanks for sharing REM.
Hi Sam, it was really my fault for not thinning the fruit set, I knew it was too much but was hopeful that they would all make it. Lesson learned. Thanks for watching.
I fully thinned my Gwen this spring. I must have removed a hundred little fruitlets yet I still missed some so about 6 fruit on tree. Seems about right for a 3 year old Gwen. All energy going into growth. I’m trying to build a big strong tree maybe let it keep what it wants when it’s about 5 or so years old. This is a 30 year project no instant gratification!
@@SVmathfarmer my other Gwen from Brokaw I thin all the fruit, that one is a little slow right now. Long term is the right approach.
Wow, great video REM, your avocado trees are looking great! Wow, your Hass is loaded! Mexicola looks like it will be a great tasting Avocado, please let us know how it tastes. Wow, crazy production on your Gwen. Great video, thanks for sharing!
I know you have a Gwen also, congrats on yours, a lot of people are still looking for one. Thanks for watching!
@@AvocadoTalk hoping one day mine fruits like yours. Great video REM, everything is looking great!
Just got our first and only Mexicola Grande yesterday, I've grafted the bottom to Lamb, leaving the top to MG. This year lost a major branch from Bacon and Reed, due to too much fruit, will watch closer and thin in future. Good up date😂.
I guess I'm not the only one losing branches... Going forward when they get heavy, I'll need to support them sooner... Good problem to have 😀. Thanks for watching!
I would be tempted to top work 2 or 3 Hass unless you plan to keep short for easy picking, the main thing I like about Hass is hang time is long you don't have to pick tree all at once, pick only as eating or selling.
So far my Hass fruit has been better tasting than any store bought, pleasantly surprised. Thinking I might add Pinkerton or SC Gold to a big branch of my Hass going forward. We'll see
@@AvocadoTalk good idea graft up high on tree to slow Hass height down on tallness if possible.
Your Maluma is looking good. I planted mine rt after picking it up from your house and it's doing great. Also only 1 fruit on it and can't wait to taste it.
That is awesome! I was really wondering how everybody else's Maluma turned out this year. You and I will be the first two to taste one locally here in Southern California that I know of at least. Thanks for watching! Definitely keep me updated.
Remember about Greg Alder he has one too. I gave one of them to him. I just saw a photo and it’s coming along nicely.
@@SVmathfarmer Gem too if I remember correctly. My one and only from this year's Brokaw is doing great.
@@AvocadoTalk REM you observing any off blooms? My oldest
Carmen is in full bloom and there is a small amount of blooming on the Mexicola and Gillogly
@@SVmathfarmer yeah just my mexicola, noticed it last week and have been looking at my other trees but nothing so far.
Hey REM - I always get a chuckle when I hear you talk about all the Hass trees you ended up with. That having been said, what great production you're getting from them. Your JB is really taking off, and all your trees are looking great. Do you know about the characteristics of the BL 516 Luna? UCR has a video out about it, but it's very general and does not provide much info about the fruit itself. Looks like we're going to have another rainy winter with El Nino strengthening. This recent cool down has been nice. Thanks for the video. Take care and stay hydrated!
The jury is still out, I may have a couple more Hass. My sir prize, Fuerte, Stewart and Pinkerton haven't fruited yet so once they fruit we'll find out.
I'm working on Luna, I didn't think I would want it but with so much hype and interest, might be worth getting a couple.
Thanks for watching and we always gotta stay hydrated!
Let me know if you get any more info on the Luna. Hey, that JB I got from you is now about 8 ft tall and doing well. I'm about ready to up pot my 2 Oro Negros to 25 gal pots. They are about 4 1/2 feet tall now. Still waiting on that Santa Clara Gold. Fingers crossed that those other trees you listed are true to variety.
Sorry to see what happened to your gwen. I read gwen has been known to flower pretty hard so it set fruit well but the downside is it has issues like slow growth, leaf drop, and fruit drop. Hopefully theres still plenty of gwen avocados left to enjoy.
Good to see your JB keeps chugging along as well. Im still open to getting one from you if you have some free time.
Email me. If you're local and you want to try grafting, I'll give you some scions.
That Gwen was really productive!!
That little branch had 27 Fruit on there...crazy. Get one for sure if you find one. Thanks for watching!
Beautiful trees
Thanks for watching!
Congrats on your Maluma. Save a space next to the GEM to put a BL 516 LUNA. I spoke to Eurosemilla rep and he told me that Subtropica will have the LUNA without the 20 year licensing agreement. I called Eli and he confirmed that he is taking preorders on the LUNA for delivery around May/Jun 2024. It'll be a one time $50 license agreement for home growers plus the price of the tree $45 for clonal. Brokaw will also have them available but they require the license agreement currently waiting on info from Eurosemilla to see if there is a possibility of working around that requirement. 🍻🥑
Awesome, I'm working the deal too...Thanks for watching!
We know…thanks to REM working hard for us all
Any updates to this? Did you just call subtropica to place an order? Do they normally sell to homeowners or are they only a wholesaler?
@@geeyoupee I pre-ordered 15 of the LUNA avocado trees 7 spoken for but I'm getting 8 extras. Eurosemilla worked out a license agreement for us home growers its a one time $50 license fee plus the avocado tree on clonal its $45. ETA is late spring and I believe he sells retail not just wholesale.
@@831AVO nice, can I reserve through you? Where are you located at? I'm from San Diego. Eurosemilla is the company right? If I can't go through you, do I just call subtropica?
Thin that Gwen my friend so less broken limbs.
Good lesson learned, I was greedy and wanted more. Gwen is one of my favorite tasting avocados.
@@AvocadoTalk When have you found the Gwen peaks in the season?
@@stephenpierce3834 the season for Gwen goes from April through September, I started picking some in May June timeframe and they were good.
🍺🥑
I definitely enjoyed a really good hazy IPA after I finished the Maluma. Thanks for watching!
What are the blue dyes on the avocado tree?
Paint protection so the tree doesn't get sunburn. Latex paint and water
@@AvocadoTalk thankyou
I thought it was copper application
Pull that Maluma fruit trees too small to carry fruit soo small and young.
Logic says pull the fruit, heart say keep it to maturity... Who is going to win? 🤔😂😂🥑🥑
