Thank you Georgie, it felt like you’re speaking directly to me in my situation. I’m a 24 year old mom at home with two daughters and thinking a lot about starting my own flower business - thanks to you and your videos which motivate me a lot, I will plant some annuals, perennials and dahlias this year in my backyard and will try to sell them at a road side stand and a local farm shop. I’m so thankful for your words, they are always so positive and encouraging! And they really make me think that I can make it too. Wish you just the best - greetings from Dresden, Germany 🫶🏼
What an absolutely brilliant video! Made me a little teary, though maybe that's a sign I should go to bed. You've clearly built a fantastic business and it's great that you encourage others so much. I love your clips!
Very inspiring Georgie. Lots of patience required. I love growing anything but my growing us for my garden. I’m starting to put my seeds in. I’m encouraged this year by the tomatoes which popped up from seed in 3 days. Some years I have waited weeks. Let’s hope that this year will be a successful growing year for us all. Thanks for a great video
Absolutely love your offering. I’m a Brit abroad (Mexico- tropics) and am longing to create a cut flower garden here. Sorely needed I think. Thank you for your inspiring output.
March 1st I started my journey I'm super excited and nervous. Although I don't normally listen to flower farmers advice (because they are so discouraging and I do not want that in my spirit) you are different. You stay focused on the silver lining while encouraging us through whatever excuses we have. Thank You for this video I greatly enjoyed it.
Absolutely inspiring and starting a flower farming business affirming. Needed to hear your thoughts and clever ideas. As you say so well, it all comes down to deciding what you really love to do, doing it well, learning how to do it better, having the courage to compete and accept criticism, and having the faith to persevere. You are always an amazing role model and mentor. Thank you for your dedication to your UTube subscribers.
Absolutely loves this video❤. Thanks for the book recommendation. As a farmer I'll block forward to listening to it in audio form. One of the pleasures of this endeavor!
From Miss Donna Marie Baff On February 14th 2024, I looked inside my Wedding Flowers & Accessories magazine Jan/Feb 2016 and on page 20, I found a wonderful article Go green-fingered from author Georgie Newbury, Grow your own Wedding Flowers. How exstradinary...... This magazine was a wonderful monthly treat for the Bee Garden, market Stall. Thank you WI, Home and Country Digging for victory
Thank you Georgie, another really interesting post. Women are amazing and setting goals and fulfilling. them while managing homes and families as well. I did an OU degree while my children were small it taught me a lot about time management and tenacity. I also qualified as a counselling psychologist via the BPS independent route as there were no doctorate courses in Scotland at that time. When you practice something like confidence eventually you become it. Hope you had a good IWD.
Dear Georgie, thank you 🤗! Your words truly came from your heart to the hearts of those who needed moral support on their effort to start or sustain a passion or a small business. I am one of those women , i know that i have enough knowledge to support my passion further away...i just need the courage to value my work properly. I feel discourged because the sellings are not good, i have really just a small part of the garden to manage for cut flowers. I really felt like letting it all go, but your words touched my heart Georgie, i want to continue even if it will all remain to a small scale. When i have time, im feeling relaxed by watching things about gardening, cut flowers and enjoy every of you videos, im happy that i found your channel❤😊. Please, if you can write the names of the greenaries that you mantioned in the video, i find it hard to figure out the spelling😊
Thank you for your encouragement and words of wisdom. I'm here in Connecticut USA, currently looking or part-time work in a flower shop. I had a flower shop, after working in insurance industry, I took the leap and bought a 15 year florist business with no formal experience having taught myself floral design. I found out a lot about myself during the few years I had the business and learned a lot, however I had to sell it due to a health issue, yet I never lost my interest in floral design work and did some freelancing work, weddings, family gatherings, etc etc. Happy International Women's Day to all those women out there doing what they love to do.
Happy International Women’s Day Georgie! I came across your channel recently and have been watching daily. We have SO much in common I think we’re long lost sisters🙃👩🏻🌾💐💐
thank you! we are capable of many things!! i agree.. learning all the birds for 30yrs.. my vacations with my parents were bird watching trips lolll..then i got bored... did wild mushrooms... and gardening .. then 2020 came.. got a bigger garden... but was missing something... 2022 started to learn about flowers.... 2023 i did 2 weddings and 25th wedding anniversary... for friends and family...im ready for more loll
I love Phillipa Gregory and having been reading her books since the first one she published. Amazingly enough on World Book Day, I did a short clip about my favourite flower books of which yours I rank top and also my not flower books of which Normal Women was the one I mentioned lol So I am delighted to see we read the same things 😂
Thank you Georgie, you certainly are an inspiration! Am intrigued by the side-hustle idea. I love gardening, propagating and over the last year have been becoming more confident arranging flowers from the garden for myself and family thanks to your channel. I work full time in a job I enjoy, and have 2 young children, but I have a hankering to see if I could make a bit on the side from the garden, even if it was only enough to cover the costs of buying the plants I want. Not sure if it is a crazy idea, or how much extra time it would take, above the time I already spend gardening. I'm also not sure if trying to make money from what I love would make me love it less? I think you may have sparked something!
@theflowerfarmer I know you have done videos with other flower farmers who don't do it full time. Any idea what the minimum time it would take to make a worthwhile difference? Thank you!
Hi I can’t find the horticultural name for bracket glosses. I live in a climate similar to yours, San Juan island Washington USA. I’ve been watching for a while, and recently subscribed. I’m lame at computer stuff, but I’m a good grower I’m 68 have been in this new environment and I’m still learning what to grow here. I’ve been growing plants since I was 3 and arranging flowers my whole life. Not sure if I want a business but for me and my friends. Thanks so very much Yarrow J Pressburg
@@stephaniebalducci6248 Brachyglottis common name is daisy bush which is a senecio, so let’s hope we both find out later, thanks so much, I’ll keep looking , I’m new to internet and live in deep woods and only have google but when I’m somewhere else I’ll use safari.
Rousing words, Georgie - and a brill pep talk! Too many women suffer from a Vitamin C deficiency - that's Vitamin Confidence! It starts in childhood, and gets into the marrow of their bones and they can't shake it off - so we have to talk ourselves out of it - we owe that to ourselves. I always fancied becoming an organic strawberry farmer in Tasmania - but was told you had to grow them on acres of hideous black plastic sheeting - and that turned me off the whole idea! I am your age, and agree with you that self-employment is the way to go - simply because it is so bloody difficult to be offered a job as women grow older. Not only do we become invisible to younger employers - but I now realise - to my horror - that ageism is the new racism.
I believe strongly that if someone tells you an accepted practise (black plastic sheeting for strawberries) that you don't like the look of there's always another way to do it if you use your imagination xxx

Yes it changed names from senecio. A valuable shrub
you're very welcome - and yes, it's brachyglottis x
Currently run my own gardening business but the dream is a flower farm. But where to start!?
decide what your financial objective is (be reasonable) and work back from that x
