- It's Semi-Finals time! Downhill has received some revisions to the format this year, including the addition of a semi-final round! Riders now have 3 opportunities to earn points towards their overall score, qualification, semi-finals and finals. Points scale progressively so riders will still be putting it all on the line come the finals! We're live streaming the elite semi-finals right here on GMBN UA-cam, but for the elite finals, make sure you're subscribed to GCN+ in order to watch.

Watching the guy watch the iPad instead of Loics footage was riveting 😢. I was holding out until I seen how the coverage was going to be before signing up to GCN+, no regrets as this needs to improve greatly before I sign up. I don't mind paying for race coverage, but not paying for poor coverage. Expected alot more from a company like Discovery.
How much actually is it to watch the final as a ‘pay per view’ ?

It is, and we had already downsized from freecaster before that.
Rob Warner IS the quintessential mountain biking culture, but hey, they could always get Phil Liggett, Mountain biking was to get AWAY from road culture!
Well said, it was already watered down massively from the freecaster era and Warner was the main thing keeping it alive for us actual downhillers, HUGE mistake getting not hiring him.

I've never understood why they cant just have cameras on the whole run. Seems like everyone is having problems in areas we just don't get to see. DH might be the coolest cyclesport but worst one to try and follow/watch.
This was exceptionally bad, it used to be pretty good coverage, eurosport in the 90's did it pretty well, freecaster was the best and redbull were pretty good too. these guys have a long long way to go but hopefully they improve, you can never show the whole run because they overlap, there are 3 minute gaps between start times for the top riders and 1.5min gaps for those lower down the field, with tracks usually being around 5mins it doesn't work out.
Just do split screen when two guys are on the track at the same time
its great watching the ski lift during runs. no camera where the race was decided and they film the ski lift during runs. this coverage is trash

Yea this was pretty awful, camera angles and zoom was all over the place, bits of run overlapping between cameras, whole bits missing with bits of stock footage instead, cameras wizzing around not filming anything, clearly no communication between the TV truck and the commentary, cant see the split times properly because they are too small and the see though red and green highlight was almost impossible to see.
I'm sure they will get better at it and I appreciate that the junior racing is now shown as its a huge help to them sponsor wise ect and its good racing but at this stage it's def not worth paying the large fee for a subscription to watch the finals imo (yes i realize it's the cost of 3 cups of coffee a month but there are a lot of us who can not afford and do not buy take away coffee)
Moi Moi TV is heaps better. Looks like I'll be reverting to watching Enduro.

What are the redundancies on timing? Surely we're not relying solely on a timing chip that is on the bike and can be damaged/lost? There is no basic computer system that only does start and finish?
This is the most significant problem; they had better fix the timing or they will lose any validity.
How do I watch the mens and womens finals replays? Like I used to with ease on redbull tv !!
I've just spend the last 15 minutes trying to login / create an account for GCN plus and it's just not working. Keeps saying there was an error logging in. Have tried all avenues........

So strange that everyone seems to be here for Rob and not the racing. And nobody seems to be embarrassed by that.
It's because rob did a perfect job and these guys kind of suck. Also the coverage is worse than redbull and redbull did it free.
@@dylan-5287 I already subscribe to GCN, GMBN, GMBN-Tech, eMTBN. So those dudes make a LOT of money from the advertising and the high subscriber numbers. Charging for sub-optimal presentation is rude.
@@bruce.KAY-bike-drifter same here and agreed. I love what they do with all their channels already but come on. Keep dh free. That's the only way the sport grows and gets in front of more viewers. Average person won't pay and it just keeps the sport hidden. Redbull had the right idea.

Is this the same footage that would be on paid for gcn+ ? Or has it been chopped up for UA-cam? The junior finals weren’t like this on here
No, this is the semi-finals. The finals are on GCN+. And you get "highlights" of those on yt. Highlights being 3mins!
@@petermcinnes6987 I meant more is the quality of the footage the same. Found this unwatchable and every time anything happened it wasn’t on camera or got some gondola footage
Can't comment as I don't subscribe. I know they have more cameras (look at the first person down) so they might show top to bottom runs. But it's the same commentators.
Not 100% on this atm half way through a run and it cuts to a gondola shot for 3 minutes I don't want to watch a gondola

Earlier videos showing all the off camber tech and rock and root sections. Those were the interesting sections and not a shot of any of them. Weak!

Not paying GCN for seeing this sub-optimal downhill viewing. Glad to hear Cedric's voice at least. But c'mon guys the camera work was amateurish. Moi Moi TV can do it better with a much lower budget. Our sport will lose a lot of followers if this is going to be the standard for the year.

No relationship with the racers. No-one with their helmet off. Never saw the hotseat reactions.
Still not telling us how many to go, or their quali. times. Or what 'protected rider' means, how many there are, or when someone will stop being protected.
