Thank you for asking this question from the riders. The most important thing is that they feel good about it. For us spectators it's been awesome to see so much racing in one weekend. The commentators did a great job too BTW
They only asked factory riders. They have a own physio to get them ready to race.
Most riders entered, most race footage put out. More people and racing on the track throughout the day for the actual fans present. A big win for the sport overall

I like the New Format and Juniors on yt. That was a good weekend with lots of things to watch. Only big negativ is no Pov quali/race runs on the riders personal chanels because of the upload delay.

Good fun little summary as always. I was disappointed you didn't mention Rachael Atherton because that was also a massive story. Healing vibes though and well done for putting any content out in your condition! 👍
My main concern with the new format is that it gives riders another run at race pace to potentially get injured. I'd hate to see riders get injured in the first run, and miss racing for the real points in the main final. You could argue they may just crash in the final, but I am sure the added pressure for some having to worry about getting top 30 could affect their semi run. I'm not a pro out there though, so my opinion doesn't really matter. Just hope all the riders stay safe.
Downhill has changed, but nobody sees it, as it's behind a wall now.

I find listening to Ben talk highly amusing. Love his silly humor coupled with his ability to be totally serious and factual.
So glad Ben had a good outcome from the crash all things considered. Would have been more fun seeing him race, but still getting content like this despite everything is incredible. Heal quickly.

Will we see more injuries in the longer harder races with riders being more spent after 2 runs made to go harder on their race runs? It going to be an interesting season to watch.
Something that's always been free for us to watch, has now been reduced to a 3 min highlight clip. Sure we get to watch the juniors and it's great for them etc etc, but ultimately it's like being an F1 fan but only being able to watch the gocarts race the day before (Note that I've not seen an F1 or MotoGP race since they went PPV as well!).
Big team riders won't say a lot because of contracts etc, but it's common knowledge now about the issue with riders gopro runs and some eyebrow raising copyright ownership demands!
I'll keep saying it, but these changes are purely just a cash grab for D+ & UCI and it will do more harm than good as long as they keep treating riders and fans like a commodity....
Absolutely this , DH is really a niche sport , it doesn't even get the crowds , skiing gets and it never will.
It'll die a slow death like F1.
I’d take rider’s opinions on-camera with a grain of salt tbh. But good point about more exposure for the juniors!

As a spectator on the track, after giving my all in the semi-final, I was done before the final. Also, because the super tight schedule, it's hard for find time to just walk around the pits and do other things... And the lack of chainsaws sucked....

There is so much hate online about the new commentary and layout but I think it was awesome. Way more coverage and the commentary was decent considering they haven’t done it before.
It is true, it's good juniors can get some exposure. Their elites they should be fit enough to put down 3 race runs. When its a mudfest it's going to be interesting to see who comes out on top. Chaos creates more excitement for the viewer.

The new announcers , new camera angles , and drones were not good. I really hope they evolve quickly. It was hard to watch :(.

Who is Nathan Pontvianne? UCI lists him as a Junior riding for Pinkbike and showed him qualifying 12th and finishing 14th in the race. I don't think I saw any mention of him in this video, though. Is he just sponsored by Pinkbike as a one-off deal but not officially part of the team? (Roots and Rain also show him sponsored by PB for this race.)
What's the point in watching the semi. I mean the concept is cool but with all the top riders being protected anyway there isn't much excitement.
I'd expect that a "protected" rider should have the skills to get top 30 without taking much of a risk.
And the points given in the semi are way too much. Williams won the main race and only leads the overall by 2 points.

i think riders take more risk in this new format and im surprised i didnt hear about it too much from riders in interviews. Hope we wont be seeing more injuries cause of it. at the other hand theyr proffessionals right ? idk how i rly feel about it yet as a viewer. im really excited to see all the strategizing and what riders/teams gonna come up with maybe even how it'll affect industry.

I like the live juniors but the new format is going to make it more difficult for smaller or privateers to succeed which sucks. That and just wait till the injuries start causing more issues, I think some people will change their tune!

They also missed a lot of the track. But Redbull showed how a good stream looks. What they made out of it is just trash with a lot of errors. They only want to take as much as money out of it as they can.

There's already studies that's been done into how bad DH is on the body...and that's without the crashes.
Making them do a semi and a final is just lunacy...and they have the science now to understand this, yet, they have still pushed for it.

The riders will never speak the truth with sponsorship worries in the back of their head. Why not ask the most important people? The fans what they think?
Also ask Privateers. More races in short time is much more stress if you have nobody to help you recover.
This is a good idea for a Pinkbike Poll after a few rounds.
Adding the endurance factor will change the strategy, especially on longer tracks. Nice to see the team back at it!
Semi stream was a disaster. 11k ppl watching on yt and nobody had much positives about it

The only thing the fedeation should put is to wear neck brace as mandatory to avoid the risk of neck injuries

The most annoying thing is that you need to pay for the elite finals. As DH is pretty much the only race I watch I probably won’t pay the price and stop watching it also considering the bad camera angles in the semis.
For me discovery might have destroyed the wc.

Maybe a dumb question, but I'm curious.
Intervals/splits
It warns people around that a rider is on the track, so no one tries to cross or is ready to move in case of a crash.
They blow the whistle as the rider passes safely.
If there's a crash or obstruction, they have a yellow (slow) and red (STOP!) flag to warn the next riders.

12 weeks off the bike sucks. But on the up said you can dedicate more of your time to the team and the media side of things which is a giant plus for us fans. Heal quickly fella. 👍
They should give the riders in the final two laps. Hate it when their chance to win is over if the bike breaks.

Good to have the juniors covered but the new format is p1sh!!! The extra race run is just going to cause a pile up of injuries as riders put themselves more at risk. You’ll see. DH needs to separate from the UCI lycra bum boys

Either this is an accurate burn of the new commentators feeling out their depth and like watching your pals chat about the race

you had ambient noise on and need to go into audio settings on the gcn app and turn commentary on in your language of choice

I’m not pro the default not being your language of choice, maybe a note to gcn would help. There is also the stream with the live show which defaults to English.
if I ran a shop I’d definitely have ambient on in the background (right permitting etc) also gives you a chance to genuinely try and commentate along with the action (which is so hard!)

I’m still sad that even if I’d watch semis on UA-cam - I won’t be able to watch the main-est event of them all, the finals. Because paywalls. Besides I’m very unsatisfied with the quality of open broadcast so that’s a sad season for me 😢

Let's get more people watching for free instead of having only the dedicated paying so the sport doesn't die when we have no new fans because they didn't want to pay to watch something they weren't already invested in.
@@NONO-hz4vo I don’t want you to do anything, but it’s not expensive to watch the finals. Boxing, mma, moto are all sports you have to pay to watch. There is more coverage now than ever. I got to see the juniors race…. For free, which I’ve never been able to do and it cost me barely anything to watch the finals. If you don’t like it, don’t watch it.
@Matt Curran I won't and I actually enjoy the sport. You know who else won't is any new comers. Soon you will be disinterested enough to not pay and the number of new people will not replace those who are leaving and the sport will shrink.
Learn from the successful. Build the user base and then generating profits will be much easier.

I’m sure people much more qualified than yourself have had a lot of conversations about how to run a televised event. Keep on moaning and missing out if that’s how you want to continue your “ enjoyment of the sport “ I personally enjoyed it and won’t miss out for such a small fee, and I’m also looking forward to them being very successful along with all the riders, including the juniors who now have a great platform to promote themselves to their sponsors, as let’s face it, they are the future of the sport. Without them there would be nothing.

If you had a flat during Quarter-finals or semi's, sorry, try again next week! Total BS, not good for the sport! Also, get Rob Warner back right away!
