LightAndDarkMdness02 same, but we get hardly anything of the engineers. Perhaps it was too hard to make in the film? Or perhaps there was so much story to tell they couldn’t fit it all in one movie and so they focused on the parts with David. I wish they’d make a stand-alone movie where they take a human from way back in the past to their world. Like how in cave paintings early humans viewed them as their gods. And then we see the entire engineer world and then make shit go sideways and the horror themes come into play.

you realise almost none of the ideas in these concept art designs are even in the movie, meaning theres still a chance they or something similar could be used later. they could have saved the engineer experimentation ones since David ended up only killing another offshoot colony and not an actual Engineer planet, but its unlikely since atm its been implied that the engineers are basically extinct. him tending the eggs is much more likely since he hasnt really gotten a chance to experiment with the eggs as much as he'd like to and still needs to work on them, thus bringing the two embryos with him in onto the ship.
Us Alien fans would love these ideas in the film but however the general audience could find it boring, so Ridley went for a horror slasher just to attempt more money grossing. Not to say I don't like the concepts shown here which I find really interesting.
Boring please the movie was unpinning and boring. But your probably right he just went for anything that made as much money as possible before the franchise crashes.
Ironically, before Prometheus, the franchise was as strong as ever. Even under the weight of 3 and Resurrection, Alien and Aliens could hold it up on their own. Only now is it under threat of actually dying.
Alien fans and the studio ruined the franchise. The studio ruined by say hell no to Engineers being too close to God and them sending man space Jesus. Fans ruined it after they rejected and by in large couldn't comprehend the heady concepts in Prometheus. So rather than getting a Prometheus sequel we got a pre-prequel to Alien that is the running for the worst Alien movie to date if you exclude the AvP crap. In end Ridley wound up creating what he said he didn't like about Alien sequels, a brain dead big budget space thriller. Next to The Last Jedi this was the worst sequel of 2017. In both cases they broke the continuity mythology rather build on them.
In my opinion, Ridley Scott nowadys is just an egocentric asshole who doesn't care about the alien franchise or the art behind movies. He is just doing "commissional work" and pisses on other's opinions.
This looks really good. It would've been nice to see. I always thought the Engineer's city looked a bit underwhelming and low-tech, almost like a small colony than a city on their home world.
Cannot understand why Ridley would not go with these Concepts at all. Could it be jealousy of a younger person coming up with a better idea? Or just pure arrogance? What about the artwork here being to much money for the budget due to many special effects....not sure... Weird! Even though I myself like many others did not like the idea of David creating the Xenomorphs this Concept made more sense and looked 1000 times better.
He's made clear in recent interviews that he wants to move away from the Alien side of things and do an exploration of human soul and AI thing instead. That's why he humanized the Engineers and focused everything on David and the humans instead.
cuz fanboys bitched that Prometheus was different and didn't have any xenomorphs. So he totally scrapped the Paradise idea and literally killed anything that was interesting from Prometheus to troll everyone out of their money with a generic slasher sci fi movie. lol!
I love the idea expanding the lore into the transformations of the engineer but that would've been so out of the alien vibe atmosphere like the horror genres that most would've saw weird and hard to understand since David has dozens of them and probably sorted out by choosing the best sets of eggs that probably satisfied with Davids desires to weaponize or create a perfect specimen as he did in the movie Concept art just opens so many ideas what could've been, I loved the buildings with the alien look feel. It made it really feel like an Alien movie expanding their franchise and lore.
I've always thought this concept art implied a movie like covenant, but the colonists or whoever arrive mid-outbreak and have to survive in an engineer city while its engulfed in chaos and collapsing, hence the concept art of the faceless reconstructs cowering in the dark, like they would be the more passive but eery background threat contrasting with the non mutated engineers and full teeth gnashing xenomorph-like beings. And I just love that concept, humans scurrying underfoot as titanic monstrosities and primordial creator beings Duke it out, the corners of the city filled with cowering, helpless beings on the verge of bursting into infection vectors
What the hell was Ridley Scott thinking when he choose to make the movie (Alien Covenant) like it was instead of this amazing vision of a Engineer culture and planet?
I think the original concept for the movie was about delving into the Engineer's culture and David's experiments, but the studio "knew" the audience wanted the alien so that original draft was scrapped in order to get a more traditional alien death slaughter movie that audiences "wanted" so that new script was greenlit since it featured the alien and disposed of all the original scripts ideas, you get tiny hints of them in Covenant, but originally the sequel was primarily about David's experiments and the Engineer culture. When Prometheus came out, a question came about of "In the next one will we see the Alien?" The reply was "If a sequel is greenlit, it will deviate even further from the alien creature" Seeing Covenant we now know how that turned out.
@@visitorzeta1669 (3 years ago, I know) it's a shame Scott caved to the demands. I honestly liked Prometheus for what it was. As much as I love me some xeno screen time, seeing the universe fleshed out in other ways would have been great too. Ripley was an interesting heroine. I think David is an interesting antagonist. And the engineers' culture and history would have been really interesting to get in to.
Khang Le nailed the look and feel of Alien. His vision is so much better and shows so much more passion and understanding of the source material than Ridley Scott had... It's absolutely obscene that man is being allowed to continue in the directors' seat. Body horror, disturbing sexual themes, a synthesis between high technology and perverted biology. These are the things that make the Xenomorph scary and what defines the look of the aliens (both Xenos and Space Jockey) in the original works. It is absolutely baffling to me how Ridley Scott could do such a horrible job of maintaining continuity in the universe he created... but maybe as a set builder myself, I'm biased towards preserving visual continuity between films. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, it seems like the people involved with the new Star Wars sequels and the Alien prequels have literally no passion for the original works and have just decided to adopt a visual style that makes them seem so painfully disjointed that I can't even enjoy them as part of the same series. Thank God we still have directors like Denis Villeneuve who give a damn about how the world he's basing his film in (Bladerunner) is supposed to look.
Ridley Scott and Dan'O'Bannon were the genius behind Alien. Ridley Scott was nothing more than a good director who now steals credit from these 2 dead Men. Its shameful honestly, no respect for Giger.
The Irony is that it's like the studio simplified Alien Covenant, to make it a sure thing at the Box office but it failed to do well. They should just bite the bullet let all the talented writers and artists realise their visions. We could have had a massive better and coherent film.
Well, then you only equate anime with bright schoolgirl stories and such. Anime, however, has many different art styles and many different ways of story telling. Something darker, like the first Ghost in the Shell anime, both in art style and story telling, would probably be fitting for an Alien type story. Maybe everyone should start to use the definition of anime as it is used in Japan, where it designates all types of animated movies and series, even those from the west made by the likes of Dreamworks, Disney and Pixar. In Japan, anime is just a shortening of the original English word animation.
"his movies are getting worse the older he gets ... " Not true. The Martian is one of his greatest works. Maybe you were talking about Alien films? Well, I like both Covenant and Prometheus but I see why some ppl dislike them
I love Mr. Lee's artistic style, it reminds me a lot of the Fantasy/Sci Fi art that was popular back in the 1970's. If you are ever at a conic-con and you see copies of 'Creepy' 'Eerie' and/or 'Heavy Metal' magazines, do yourself a favour and buy a few copies. Frank Frazetta did a ton of classic cover illustrations. Also, Roger Dean, the Artist who did many LP covers for the Prog Rock band 'Yes" His work is incredibly funky.
James Cameron ripped off Roger Dean's artwork for Avatar. Dean tried to sue him but failed in court. Best he got was Cameron muttering that he "might" have seen Dean's art during his "dope smoking college days".
This is awesome! thank you very much for this video. A much better version than Covenant. I found the David-centric plot (while ignoring all the might mystery of the engineers and Xenomorphs) a little self centred and almost narcissistic. Evil AI, fine, but a whole civilisation and one of the universes most frightening species where completely ignored. I also agree that the systematic ignorance of Giger's artwork and stylistic is both disheartening and self defeating. Giger's work is visceral and hard hitting not simply intended for fear. it's intended to connect with what what we think but don't want to say. Shame we're not seeing more of it in the Alien world. Thanks again for your good work.
This is 1000 times better than what covenant gave us. I liked David’s art, and specimens, but a Giger style city vs what they decided to use would have been amazing.
Well done. Thoroughly researched and craftily edited. Still have not seen anything after Prometheus but your video makes me want to, spoilers be damned !! David's descent into psychosis seems inevitable now - frustrated because no self-reproduction ability, all he can do is experiment on other, fertile bodies.
The only way I can see doing away with these concepts for Covenant is if : These concepts were intended to be injected into Covenants sequel, where the Planet 4 Engineers were the *original* Engineers that were more human and where this concept art will be the "AI Engineer homeworld" filled with the advanced organic synthetics like the ones we saw in Prometheus and that those Engineers were actually bioengineered genetic perfections (*created* by the Planet 4 Engineers) not unlike David and they have taken on a life of their own over the past billion years. Performing their own experiments throughout the Universe. Leaving the inferior original Engineers on Planet 4. This explains why the albino Engineer stroked Davids hair before he ripped his head off. For a moment there he encountered a synthetic being like himself and his kind and identified with David.... briefly.
Many intriguing images here. I still love Alien: Covenant but yes, it could have been better. Maybe we will get some of those things in Alien: Awakening?
It just goes to show the talent is there, stunning concepts by Khang Le, it's a pity not a single person actually involved in the making of the movie, had any idea of the value of this vision. So sad.
I liked in the way that shows David taking engineer's technology and had this laboratory where he was working, visually 5:05 it seems a place where you can create a life form, experimenting, doing whatever, in Covenant looks like David created a perfect organism in a cave or something
Thanks for sharing - this is the way it should have looked for sure. But as little as these things appear on screen the expense couldn't be justified for a few seconds of film.
All of this looks amazing! BUT: Also a lot of these images provide shots for a movie, that are very similar to stuff we have already seen in different movies, mostly fantasy-stuff. I think, that could have had an influence on the decisions, that were made.
I don't know about you guys but this looks somewhat like what I believe Covenant's sequel to be inspired by. Hopefully! The eggs would definately coincide with the embryo abord the vessel from covenant.
Wow! This concept art for Covenant looks amazing. I can't wait to see this adopted in the film! Wait, what was that? Uh, huh. Yea. It's already out? Wait, they did what? You've got to be fucking kidding me.
Damn, a bio-mechanical city, that would have been awesome! I do love the extrapolated concept of the engineers, they don’t try and protect themselves from the environment as much as they adapt themselves and their bio-tech to their survival needs and it develops and grows to suit the environment. Would’ve been nice to see that more clearly.
So much Giger respecc. This is what was needed for a movie. I hope Ridley fucking uses ingenius shit like this in the next film, if they'll let him make one. If not, I hope Alien 5 has more Giger respecc in it as well. That's all I want dude, some respecc for Giger, and Dan O'Bannon.
The he concept art for the last two "Alien" movies are quite stunning and evoke mystery like the original Alien. It's a pity that the stories (more so Covent) lack a similar artistry.
@5.52 I wonder if that Engie is like the sacrificial one at the beginning, he's given himself to be mutated for a bigger cause, hes seem okay with it and the others around him are pretty chill. Actually a wicked concept.

Covenant was alright but watching the story of the engineers slowly turning into the alien would have been a way better story. Movies need to find the same creative balls as the box set tv scene seems to have got.
I saw a lot of concept art and this how like the original story was meant to turn the engineers themselves into the alien using that genetic goo stuff. It wold have been a nightmarish type story like our creators got slowly turned into the weird alien by a disgruntled AI that we mistreat. In the movie they kind of all get murdered and so we never get to see them or their bizarre society. The best bit of the whole movie was in the prologue that was released online featuring the tiny bit you saw of their city. i like Covenant though I think people are being too harsh on it. I'd have liked it to have gone full on creepy and scarey though.
I loved the horror parts actually, I was very pleased to get a cerebral sci fi movie with interesting twists, and also a tense and scary horror film. It's both things I love about Alien. Thing is though, I think that the people on that planet that David killed maybe weren't engineers. They were bald and white, but they were also 5 to 6 feet tall, and wearing crude medieval clothing. Their faces didn't have the puffy, symmetrical, alabaster faces of the regular engineers, they just looked like ordinary people. So we know that the Engineers fly around in their ships and seed planets with life, right? And the only life we know of is humans. So the engineers made humans, who then evolved and grew and developed space travel, but forgot their old alien gods? That might mean that they also created the people we see on that planet. If they had, and they had remained faithful to their alien gods (unlike earth), I would expect to see primitive stone buildings. They might look a bit like greco-roman architecture, without any fancy materials or tech. The people would look like a mix between humans and engineers, and their temples would have giant statues or busts of engineers. Their whole city would be built around a giant round courtyard, and in the center, a landing platform for their gods when they came to visit. (Maybe the landing platform for the alien ships would be the only engineer architecture we saw on that planet) Then, whenever an engineer horseshoe ship comes and lands there, thousands of these people would crowd out of their homes into the courtyard, cheering with their hands up as Zeus descended from Olympus. Imagine the shock on their faces when they realized that they had angered the gods somehow, and instead of gifts, the gods were arriving in wrath. Zues' lightning falls, Pompeii erupts, Pandora's box is flung open, and the four horsemen ride. Their entire civilization across the whole planet is snuffed out in days. For David 8 is a jealous and a vengeful God.
Furspex It would have been nice to see the Engineers changing into the Alien creature we know of today. Imagine the Engineers creating this bio-weapon that gets out of hand and slowly/quickly starts infecting the Engineers. They have no answer to stop this from happening. The infection also incorporates the Engineers bio suit into it's own physiology, making it the skin of this new species. Over time the Engineers die out and in their place the Alien species take their place.
I wish I could draw and paint this good. I've tried a few times to get into it in the past but I just don't have the talent for it. It would be so cool to be able to transfer an image in your mind to paper
This was it, this was i wanted and expected when i went to see Covenant. I have given up hope, i don't care if Ridley makes Alien Awakening or not, he just ends up ruining them anyway. I hope if there is another movie, he does what he himself really wants and not the Prometheus haters, or i hope someone else does it, someone with respect for the franchise who won't turn it into shit.
This artwork is soooo amazing! Just as Spaiht's script should have been used for Prometheus; this artwork definitely sets the stage for it's sequel, ALIEN: Covenant. After the way A:C ended, I still believe that this artwork can be utilized in a sequel. The Bohemian planet could have been a just an outpost filled with another race of Engineers. The Gigeresque planet could be their true home world. This artwork, alone, would up the box office numbers! Disney, are you seeing this!
WHATEVER THAT MOVIE WAS GOING TO BE WOULD HAVE BEEN AWESOME!!! I would have totally been down with David creating the xenomorph, with the Engineer “tie ins”! That concept art is the missing piece to Alien: Covenant (David’s “inspiration”), and had the film been made in that style it would have been GREAT! This just goes to show, and proves, how much Ridley Scott’s ego got in the way. I appreciate how he directs via story board, but it is not fully fleshed out “art”!
With this concept art I'd figure budget works into what they can and can't do for sure. The city here was a superior concept to the one on film as cool as it was.
Their was so much potential...
Yep, this simple sentence just sums it all up for me.

you realise almost none of the ideas in these concept art designs are even in the movie, meaning theres still a chance they or something similar could be used later. they could have saved the engineer experimentation ones since David ended up only killing another offshoot colony and not an actual Engineer planet, but its unlikely since atm its been implied that the engineers are basically extinct.
him tending the eggs is much more likely since he hasnt really gotten a chance to experiment with the eggs as much as he'd like to and still needs to work on them, thus bringing the two embryos with him in onto the ship.
There simply cant be enough Giger in Alien-universe
Wow thank you for this! This engineer storyline is one of my favorites in recent cinema. I hope Ridley completes the trilogy..
Mr. Rich B.O.B For me Prometheus was amazing
WOW, speechless....what AC could have been....sigh....
i hope he was well compensated. the amount of time and creativity this would have taken just to be ignored is astounding.
One of the best channels covering the Alien franchise. The quality of your content is great!
Thank you!!! Glad you enjoy the content!
If this type of stuff was in the movie it would have made so much more $ and pleased fans.. Thanks Hollywood, your genius decisions strike again.
Exploration of human and AIs is super cliche and super generic.
Ridley Scoot is officially incompetent now.
cuz fanboys bitched that Prometheus was different and didn't have any xenomorphs. So he totally scrapped the Paradise idea and literally killed anything that was interesting from Prometheus to troll everyone out of their money with a generic slasher sci fi movie. lol!
Fans wanted a generic slasher sci fi movie.
Also fans wanted AvP.
It was too beautiful and awe inspiring and optimistic. There's a war on hopefulness
.
I love the idea expanding the lore into the transformations of the engineer but that would've been so out of the alien vibe atmosphere like the horror genres that most would've saw weird and hard to understand since David has dozens of them and probably sorted out by choosing the best sets of eggs that probably satisfied with Davids desires to weaponize or create a perfect specimen as he did in the movie
Concept art just opens so many ideas what could've been, I loved the buildings with the alien look feel. It made it really feel like an Alien movie expanding their franchise and lore.
This concept art is so beautiful...
Thanks for putting this together!
Genius video sir! Love every single pixel of the concept art. Liked & subscribed. Thanks, and keep up the great work.
Thank you!
Such amazing concept art. If even half of this was in the movie it would have been 100 times better
It's a shame they threw all this awesome material away, this had the potential to be one of the best Alien films.
This looks amazing! Havent seen the film yet but this would had been amazing!
MAybe it would have been a budget issue, this would have been really expensive but yes this would have been a great direction for the film.
I did read that the budget was much lower than that of Prometheus unfortunately.
Truly stella art. Much like with Alien 3, this makes you wonder what could've been.
There's so much potential here we'll never see - proving sometimes that the initial instinct is the best instinct.
The Irony is that it's like the studio simplified Alien Covenant, to make it a sure thing at the Box office but it failed to do well. They should just bite the bullet let all the talented writers and artists realise their visions. We could have had a massive better and coherent film.
Everything looks amazing, especially the architecture of the city.
alien deserve an anime or animated series with this kind of concept for story :/
Paulo Abrahão it was really close to getting one back in the day theres a dew pictures of ir online
I agree, been saying the same thing since the 90s back when i was a really into anime.
These visuals alone would have massively improved Covenant
Maybe this concept will be used in the next sequel. Well, we'll never know.
I'd love to see it!
Khang Le designs are amazing! Ridley should have went with Khang Le designs.
Of COURSE we couldn't have a film closer to this.
That would have been too interesting...
Really enjoyed the movie, fasbender plays David superbly well, looking forward very much to the next film very much
had a lot of these scenes been on screen, the film would've been awesome, that arcitecture is a nice tip of the hat to giger. NICE
Ridley Scott is going the wrong way... his movies are getting worse the older he gets ... He should have used this concept!! No brainer!!
it wasn't ridley scott's fault. fox forced him to change direction.
xenomorph 12322 Still could have made a better movie but I guess he's lost his edge... not hungry anymore?
"his movies are getting worse the older he gets ... "
Not true. The Martian is one of his greatest works. Maybe you were talking about Alien films? Well, I like both Covenant and Prometheus but I see why some ppl dislike them
irina1296 yeah I liked the Martian I guess I meant Alien... we can all agree Prometheus and Covenant are not up to par with Alien!
the missing link
Like Alien, Blade Runner, Black Rain, Thelma and Louise?
Yeah they're all total shit. Lol 😂
Love how his interpretations are realistic to what's being show on screen😂
FUCK!!!!!! This is awesome!!!!!
That was epic. So Geiger, so perfect...
They should have included as much as this as they could; put it in the Directors cut.
Can't wait for the Disney's version of alien(s).
Mr. Sarcastic Oh no..
The only way I can see doing away with these concepts for Covenant is if :
These concepts were intended to be injected into Covenants sequel, where the Planet 4 Engineers were the *original* Engineers that were more human and where this concept art will be the "AI Engineer homeworld" filled with the advanced organic synthetics like the ones we saw in Prometheus and that those Engineers were actually bioengineered genetic perfections (*created* by the Planet 4 Engineers) not unlike David and they have taken on a life of their own over the past billion years. Performing their own experiments throughout the Universe. Leaving the inferior original Engineers on Planet 4.
This explains why the albino Engineer stroked Davids hair before he ripped his head off. For a moment there he encountered a synthetic being like himself and his kind and identified with David.... briefly.
Personally, I think it looks much better than what was in the movie.
Amazing Art, thanks for the upload.
Great job man ! Its really a shame that alot of these concept arts didn't make it to the big screen.
The hybrid looks like a great white Deacon.
This should be used for a new movie, tbh.
So ol' Ridley saw all this amazing work and was like "nah... People just want more David!"
Thank you for the video.... Keep up the good work.
KNOW THAT IS WHAT A REAL OTHER WORLDLY CITY LOOKS LIKE. GREAT ART.
Thanks for sharing - this is the way it should have looked for sure. But as little as these things appear on screen the expense couldn't be justified for a few seconds of film.
All the great stuff always stays behind the scenes...
All of this looks amazing!
BUT:
Also a lot of these images provide shots for a movie, that are very similar to stuff we have already seen in different movies, mostly fantasy-stuff.
3:52 What about a proto ASS BURSTER?
The "different story" being that it was supposed to actually be good.
@5.52 I wonder if that Engie is like the sacrificial one at the beginning, he's given himself to be mutated for a bigger cause, hes seem okay with it and the others around him are pretty chill. Actually a wicked concept.
Where do they channel the energy for these ideas ! Shits awesome!
When you're movie is nothing but a mistake then of course cool concept art was left on the drawing board
Covenant was alright but watching the story of the engineers slowly turning into the alien would have been a way better story. Movies need to find the same creative balls as the box set tv scene seems to have got.
Furspex how would it have been a story? What's the angle in your opinion? Tell us your version, because I just see concept art.
Concept art Engineer city looks extravagant. Something that totally comes as super advance civilization.
Awesome, great stuff!
Anything and everything here is more interesting than what we got in that movie.
Amazing artwork, for sure!
davidsirmons That never was..
Looks like the engineers are wearing pampers.
Ong Wai Kean and you will not 💩 yourself if you live to there? 😁
The concept art for the city looks stunning especially the one at 1:04.
When a few pictures tell a better story than 2 films
Yeah this looks awesome. How did they not use any of this???
This artwork is soooo amazing! Just as Spaiht's script should have been used for Prometheus; this artwork definitely sets the stage for it's sequel, ALIEN: Covenant. After the way A:C ended, I still believe that this artwork can be utilized in a sequel. The Bohemian planet could have been a just an outpost filled with another race of Engineers. The Gigeresque planet could be their true home world. This artwork, alone, would up the box office numbers! Disney, are you seeing this!
They are fantastic pieces
Really I want to know more about that civilization
Great work man,keep it up!
thanks!
I appreciate how he directs via story board, but it is not fully fleshed out “art”!
all of those ideas and concepts are far superior to what we got in the movie
Ok, so the concept artist did it right in the first place. Great Ridley, good job, "thank you" again...
Fox cutting the budget around $40 million from Prometheus didn't help either...
Looks awesome. That city picture
If I was a millionaire I'd fund a movie of just David and his experiments over the time period he was on the planet.
With this concept art I'd figure budget works into what they can and can't do for sure. The city here was a superior concept to the one on film as cool as it was.
Crowd: "Cool aliens!" Ridley: "Meeh.. AI is more interesting."
