    I am so grateful for this video. I want to go find a geocache in the middle of Archer Run but i have a Subaru Impreza. This road is in great shape. Much nicer than my county's gravel roads.

      I'm glad that it was helpful to you! I think you'll be fine up there with a Subaru. It's basically just a gravel road.

    My brother and I did Archer Run trail last year and, like you, only saw two camp sites but we camped at the eastern most one, about 80% of the way from west to east and were very happy with it. It is a very easy trail, to the point you could drive any Subaru, with the exception on a BRZ, off the show room floor, from end to end, with no trouble. For a little more challenge, we went North, on FS-82, over the mountain, at the end of Archer Run and did a big counterclockwise loop around the whole area, exploring every side trail we could find. Fun and scenic.

      If I'm reading my map right, the road you were talking about is Hite Hollow/FS82. How was that ride? It's on my list to hit when I go back out there. I'm trying to map most of the trails for OnX Offroad.

      @@DefiantOffroad Sorry for the late reply, I had typed a reply but I guess I didn't enter it. Yes, it's Hite Hollow. It's kind of a steep climb with lots of loose, softball sized, rocks in places and there is a nice hiking trail along the ridge, at the top and a good view of the surrounding area. We were in my Brothers Subaru Forester, at the time but now we are using my Bronco Sport Badlands, with a 2" lift.
      We are both retired and If you ever want/need a trail buddy, for almost anywhere in Va. give me a shout, though I'd probably want to limit my adventures to trails rated 5 or less. In the near future we plan on doing the Bald Mountain Jeep Trail and the area just south of Enchanted Creek.

      @@rwest5386 Awesome! Depending on how terrible the weather is tomorrow, I may head out there. I finished up Mountain Lake today and got drenched and covered in mud!

      I appreciate this comment. There is a geocache in the middle of Archer Run straight up the hollow from Craigsville and I have a Subaru Impreza. I was thinking of getting my dad to take me in his truck, but after watching this video and reading your comment I feel good about taking my Subaru. The road looks better than most gravel country roads in Albemarle County so hopefully I will be good!

    Hello from the Western seaboard. We overland mostly in the Pacific Northwest. Love seeing other parts of the country. The George Washington National Forest was definitely a scenic route. Subbed!

      The PNW is one of my favorite parts of the country! I hope to make it up there with the Jeep one day!

    These videos are so, so great. My daughter just decided to go to JMU, so I’m going to be out that way a ton from Richmond. These have really helped me find trails

      I like that he shows new trails to hit, but also that his rig isn't loaded down with 1500lbs of unnecessary equipment, and he's not spending half the time trying to get me to buy a bunch of stuff that I don't need on my Jeep.

    • @DefiantOffroad
      @DefiantOffroad  Рік тому

      @@garyseven8143 Yeah, man. I roll kinda minimalist. If I don't need it, I don't take it. I'm also not an "Overlander", so I'm not carrying a full kitchen with me. Maybe after I retire I might start heading out for days and weeks at a time, but for now it's day and weekend trips.

    Not finding this on All Trails, would love to go. Just west of Staunton you say?

      Haha, actually, should’ve waiting for the very end of the video. Saw the road signs you showed at the end and found it in the map. Not too far out from me, may make the drive out from Richmond to hit the trail and camp a night.

    Is distributed camping allowed there? You can just find a spot and camp?
