spawnjg The only cases of physical violence that I personally know of against gay people, involved them aggressively seducing straight people. That is openly hitting on uninterested people and then implying prejudice when their advances were spurned. Another occasion was of a gay person walking around dressed up in clothing that did not cover their private areas properly. In other words exhibiting themselves in public where even children were in sight. In those cases the gay men were thrashed by members of the public, but that’s in Africa, where justice can often be handed unexpectedly and swiftly.

Being apart of the lgbt+ community, I still agree with him. Being in a small position like any minority group doesn’t make you entitled to be an asshat. Don’t create oppression where there is none. They knew of these gay people because they happened to be gay. The gay scene was popular for gay people. Not for all people. He didn’t have whoever the guy was that they mentioned because the man had no idea of who he was. And to be honest, he was right. It was simple minded of them to have brought it up with him, a minority who was definitely oppressed, especially in the 90’s. Edit: According to these comments, a black man born in the 50s during Jim Crow was not oppressed because he grew up to have money and a television show, and those two things means that no one can discriminate against you or hasn’t ever. What a world.
His initial reaction with them really tells you the character of Arseno. They where clearly inturputing his show but he took the time to actually address them and listen, even before things got heated. Go back and watch.. Funny, I thought the exact opposite. I just didn't know where he could go. He's either had gay guests or he hasn't. The lesson was this: Arsenio had gay people on his show based on MERIT (their talents, WHAT they could do) and NOT SIMPLY BECAUSE they were gay (WHO they do).
Yeah.. today the values are so screwed up. If your gay and talented, fine whatever that's good, you do you. But if your gay and untalented you still get in somewhere because your gay or a minority, black, white, whatever, that's just racist and sexist. People need to value people for who they are in morals, not in what they are. It feels like we are taking a step backward anymore.
@hello therr The marriage comment has merit, but there are people all over the world getting killed for their life choices. Let's not pretend that's exclusive to gay people. By those rules though, Arsenio should have *anyone/everyone* on his show, because everyone in life regardless of who they are will encounter _some_ form of prejudice either by gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, politics, religion, age, nationality etc etc. Arsenio's point, as an entertainer, was to provide entertaining guests. Do something requiring talent, like Elton John, and he'd have you on the show.

However if you're a sodomite maybe you should feel bad about your life and who you are sexually. I have a brother that's gay and I think it's disgusting and he knows it. Now if comedians are making fun of the way they talk, or their body language so what? you can usually pick out a homosexual because they all sound like they went to the same school on how to act like a fairy. if the comedian is saying they should hang themselves or something horrible like that then no I don't agree with that, it's not funny.

had this happen on the streets he would have ran cus he;s a chicken !! acts all big and bad when he knew the crowd was behind him
A-D Daigrepont He was rightfully angry because they were blantantly accusing him of discriminating based on sexuality. I get that there was still a lot of stigma about gay people in the 90's, but Aresenio Hall would not have been one of the people to denounce them. As he said, he's had openly gay guests on and in an interview, there were other guests that he had who didn't come out at the time he had them on. You say he was being a bully and he didn't know what he actually believed in, but he had every right to react the way he did because the protesters were slandering him. Not to mention him being a minority, he knew firsthand of discrimination and he would not treat them that way. Outside of that, heckling is just a dick move.
I was born in the early 70s and remember this ..handled very well. For all the 90s babies, he is probably a homophobe
TRUE
When he said "This ain't Merv you didn't think I'd run from this did you?" I knew right then it was about to get REAL. I remember watching it live and was like DAMN!
I came here thinking the worst cause of the title, but he was very forward and respectful. No gay bashing, no hate, nothing. Very good for the era and even today
This was the TRUTH, your never going to get people to respect you if you only uses bully tactics.
Kenneth Bonney look around, the bully tactics work, those people have won.
@@heyzeuswept2413 They don't work on all of us, and as long as some of us got the balls to stand up and not compromise our rights and values, they never completely win, I don't care what it looks like on the outside.

We need a revolution and take us back to 1990.
"activist"
@Random Name "fighting" by coming on a show and pissing the host off by untrue statements.
2 things, one this isnt about being a gay activist but rather a misinformed one.
Two, If you think you cant call out a misinformed activist, then YOURE the pussy.
@Random Name LMAO bullying is not how you fight for rights especially when the person is not guilty. What was he supposed to do have a check list of what type of people were on the show???? Total nonsense.
The people “wooping” is hilarious during this serious moment 😂...
As a gay person I actually applaud him on his response. Sometimes activists over reach
I think you're missing a key aspect to this. If Arsenio is mocking gay people on national television, that significantly increases their risk of physical and mental harm and sets progress back
Buzzkill 808 Raven - If you actually want equality, you need to stop demanding preferential treatment. If you continually force EVERYONE else BUT you to walk on eggshells regarding your people, i.e. "can't say ANYTHING, even in a good-spirited humorous manner, about ANY non-heterosexual person that could POSSIBLY be taken in a derogatory manner by ANYONE(even if joke has absolutely NOTHING to do with said-person's sexuality)", then all you're doing is forcing everyone else to define you by your sexuality, and in-turn are yourself slamming the proverbial brakes on progress made towards genuine equality...
@@buzzkill808raven2 show me when he mocked. Dont make shit up
Buzzkill 808 Raven being offended is a choice.
@@buzzkill808raven2 if you're demanding people celebrate and accept your actions that offend them, you're asking for it. If white supremacists go through a black neighborhood, the blacks will attack them. Same with gays here.
This is how all these people should be handled. Now they’re coddled and uplifted.
The Sandman ... I laugh when they are considered “brave” for nonsense like this by their fellow morons on main stream TV.
Right, or trying to convince people that this transgender, binary mess is normal.
It went from: "We just want acceptance" to "We want to screw your kids out of ever being able to procreate by allowing them to make choices they can never take back."

@@Mike-cy5jg you sound offended.
We need to get rid of social media first
@@stevewhite51 How about we stop grouping all Millennials together? Most of us grew up on Arsenio and the days before social media.
“If you want to book it, get yourself a show”. You said it, Arsenio. I’ve been hearing the word gay since the 90s and never knew anything about it at that time because I was a child. Although I’m not gay (because I like women) and I’ll never will be, I’m a avid supporter of the LGBTQ community and continued to do so 100%
Thank you for your support, means a lot to us in the lgbtq community.
I'm also a straight ally of that community and I couldn't agree with you more. The members of Queer Nation who tried to hijack that episode were dead wrong.
This is refreshing. The World has changed since this time, but I appreciate Arsenio Hall kicking the Real.
Man if he did this today his show would be taken down tomorrow
Truth. 👍
That’s an actual shame too

Yup....
And that sucks...hes a cool dude.
Obama’s doing for real
Not sure he could do that now. However I will agree with him, a person's sexual orientation is none of my business.
I absolutely LOVE that he stood his ground with this...now days you can't do this though.

it does happen ... maybe the host doesnt get as hostile BUT they do remind the ones who havent checked their facts that they are very very wrong in their assumption ... and like Arsenio pointed out off the top of his head .. Elton John ... everyone knows he's gay and no one truly cares ... they like his music and how chooses to live his life when he is not performing doesnt matter
They would say arsenio loves America therefore he's a white supremacist nationalist and this is a dog whistle to Donald Trump and that we need to impeach arsenio NOW!
The East Cleveland came out of him.
Yes, it did, but the guy in the audience asked for it. The network took it out on Arseneo

"Gave them dudes a talk show" Most likely LOL
