    In this video I dive into setting up your live stream through an AUX BUS to get a designated mix for your Live Stream on your Behringer X32 console. This has benefits of a specific mix, but also effects, EQ, Compression and limiting can all be specified to your Live Stream. You know, it's not the knowledge you give out, plenty can do that, but it's the way you impart the knowledge. So many people know their stuff but can hardly put 2 words together.
      You and Drew are masters at that. I use Cubase and Dom Segalas and Chris Selim are the masters of explaining that.
      Carry on.

    This is leaps and bounds definitely the way to go for houses of worship with this desk or similar. A little more work for the engineer but much more satisfying. Also another great example of why a real engineer needs to be hired as opposed to a volunteer who is not an engineer by trade.

    This is exactly what I was looking for. I just installed an M32R Live in to our church and was looking to set up a seperate mix for our live stream. I have the in house sounding great, now I need to get the live stream audio to the same level. Coming from an analogue board I was limited to one mix (the 2 AUX sends were already used for our monitor mixes) so once people started coming back in house I've been struggling with trying to get some sort of balance. With the new hardware and this channel I've learned a lot! Thank you!

    Thanks for blessing so many Behringer X32 and Midas M32 users in the Worship environment. For the Stream Mix is also good to add a couple of audience mics to capture the congregation's reaction to their experience. We are serving our Lord in Puerto Rico and send our love to y'all.

    Hi the nail on the head! We just started going back to church, 3rd week coming up. Not every one likes the new “normal”, so they want use to continue placing the service online, but now we are trying to do streaming. New territory for us Neophytes. So far we’ve been using the mic on the camera, but it’s not the best sound. In the past we’ve tried to feed our house mix in to the camera, but they said the vocals were terrible, off pitch and too loud... Your explanation of having a separate mix for the streaming made sense. We’ll give it a try. Thanks

      Here is the solution I am using right now as we start back this week. It allows for only one sound engineer to mix, but you get a good mix for both the house and the stream. Check it out and see which one is the best option for you.

      I was able to follow all the steps. But I ran into an issue. When I press send on fader all the faders on the left hand side go down. I then increase and decrease the volume of one of the channels but it does not change. Meaning that I don’t have individual volume control of each fader. I do have a global control on the linked bus fader on the right hand side. I would like to have individual volume control of all the instruments. Can you help me find out why there is no volume change on the faders?

    The best explanation I've seen yet. We have an X32 Compact in our church. The guy that engineered the steam to facebook is no longer in the church and didn't tell anyone how he engineered the feed and he was having to adjust the mix before every church service. Since he left, the mix is dreadful. I have experience as a sound engineer but I am more old school and haven't had time to get into the digital world. I find the whole "page-opening" to get from one place to the next, terribly confusing of course. I like having the entire console and controls laid out so I can see everything. Well, with this compact, that's just not going to happen and I understand that. I watched your video and it was helpful but I'll need to go through it several times to change my way of thinking through the digital console. I appreciate your explanation but sure wish I had someone right there with me to walk me through the process. That's not possible so I'll watch your video at the church while working with the console to see if I can locate how the last guy engineered the sends to create the stereo mix and send that signal to the PC for facebook streaming.

      Thanks for the encouragement. Getting comfortable with a console isn’t always the easiest, especially when you are trying to figure out a previous persons setup. It never hurts to save the setup to a new scene and then you can begin making changes in your non-service times until you get everything nailed down. You can just reload your previous scene for service times. Here are two things for you.
      1) this video is a full walk through of my setup and you might find it beneficial in creating your new scene. ua-cam.com/video/pMnaiuC55RY/v-deo.html
      2) I do offer remote consultation which can provide a “person along with you” to help along the way and figure out what the previous person setup. Thanks, this is really helpful! My church will be getting an X32 in the next couple weeks. Our church has a main mono output, so we just started adding some stereo (keyboards and electric drums) for our livestream mix. Question for you--I saw you had acoustic guitar in stereo. What's the best way to do this? We have a direct output from our acoustic guitar amp into the board, but it's a single XLR out. Thanks again for your videos!

      I’ll do a video on this soon, but the short version is you select the 2nd channel you want to use and go into the Config tab and change the input source to be the main acoustic input. The gain will be shared since it relates to the one preamp, but you have the ability to do EQ, comp, and panning all different across these channels.

    Question. I watch the video on how to set up your livestream and I heard you speak about using a USB cable. We use Boxcast for our livestream along with the Roland V-1hd switcher. How did you run your cabling for your livestream feed?

    • @AllamHouse
      @AllamHouse  2 роки тому

      My specific setup runs out XLR outputs and goes into my ATEM TV Studio HD. There is an AJA converter (SDI to USB) which goes into a laptop where we stream through OBS to UA-cam. Many of my viewers do not have a video switcher to run into so these videos discuss routing out the X-USB card and using USB to get the audio into their streaming software.

  • @jimcoonce2894
    @jimcoonce2894 3 роки тому

    This is a great video! Thanks for your knowledge and willingness to share your expertise! So far, we are fairly low tech and we are not live streaming. However, we just started back meeting in our building and are recording on a single, Canon XA30 camcorder. No switcher of any kind. We are working toward improvements but that is going to take money and time. However, we do have an X32 mixer! Our camera has 2 xlr audio inputs and I am wondering if I can send a mix from our X32 to our Canon XA30. If this isn't possible or optimal, another option would be to send the mix out to a separate computer and then add the audio to video in postproduction. It just seems that if we could directly input to the camera it would save a step.

    • @AllamHouse
      @AllamHouse  3 роки тому +1

      You are on the right path for sure. All you need to do is route your stream output to go out two additional XLR outputs and connect them to your camera. Then you will have the stream audio going into your camera. At that point you can either record it or push it wherever you want to go.

    Thank you so much for all of your videos! They have really been a blessing for us at St. Mark. Question: I’ve created my stream mix on bus 11&12 via usb. How do I get those faders to only control the volume on the stream instead of the volume of both the front of house monitors and the stream? I want to control the front of house volume with only the main fader while 11&12 only control the stream volume. Thanks in advanced!

    • @AllamHouse
      @AllamHouse  3 роки тому

      If I understand this right, you have a stream mix on Bus 11/12 and it is routed out USB to your stream. That setup (ideally) will be a post-fader mix so any changes you make in the house will be replicated on the stream.
      Your issue is that this mix is also being heard in monitors (presumably floor wedges) that are on stage. My guess is that you have output 11 and/or 12 feeding those monitors. To change this you would go into Routing>Out tab and scroll to output 11 to see what is feeding it.

    This is sp great. Thank you so much. Wanna ask. Instead of a bus to mix these separately, can i use a matrix? I wanna feed that matrix into an aux send then via 1/4 cables to my live stream pc either through my focusrite or these 1/4 (joined stereo) to 3.5 mm cables directly into my pc. I want to leave my card out for multitrack recording as as such i dont wanna touch that. Please advise. Thank you.

      You can use a Matrix to copy your mains (or other buses) into and then route them out your 1/4” AUX out on the back of the console. This video walks you through the steps, but you will have to modify it slightly to route to your desired AUX outs instead of the USB that I discuss.

    Great video. Thank you. If you’re not going to use post fader, what determines the level going out to the USB. I am having a hard time getting a loud enough output through the USB. Is the level going out through the USB determined by the individual streaming channel levels?

    • @AllamHouse
      @AllamHouse  2 місяці тому

      The audio path hits the preamp which is the biggest factor to your overall stream volume. After that you use the signals to build a mix into a MixBUS (pre or post fader) and those “sends on fader” levels will build the mix into the MixBUS. Typically O see that peoples amps on their PA are turned up all the way so they have to find a place to limit the room volume and they incorrectly do this at the gain. This action trickles down to impact any monitors, FX and any live stream you are building on the console (or even a DAW). This video here describes this more. ua-cam.com/video/-RjP3IKFfqM/v-deo.htmlsi=GM84bIbqfc5Eindz

    Hi AllamHouse,
    I followed all the steps in the video. But it seems our overall volume, mainly for the mics is too quiet. Is there a way to change this other than messing with the gain for each channel? Our in room mix aounds great, it's just the live stream sound that is too quiet.

      This is a common issue that many run into. The short version is your amps are cranked up too much so you compensate with lower gain. Check this video here. ua-cam.com/video/-RjP3IKFfqM/v-deo.html

I realize that there are many, approaching infinite, ways to accomplish this task (like most things computer related), but I would like to just learn one way, the best way, as has been determined by your experience / trial and error. Quick question.. Isn't still stereo if for Example from your video...I route output 5&6 to the same mix bus?
    Rather then routing output 5 to mix bus 5 and output 6 to mix bus 6?
    Can't we just route output 5&6 to mix bus 5?

    • @AllamHouse
      @AllamHouse  2 роки тому

      Using a singular output would only provide you with a mono signal. If you sent this to some speakers you would either need to run your speakers in series (daisy chain) or you would need to duplicate your MixBUS 5 so you could feed both L and R speakers. The signal would be the same in both so you would not have the ability to pan. This is either called bridged mono or mixed mono... not stereo. Using the MixBUS 5 and 6 allows you to pan them hard left and right creating width in your audio field and this allows you to pan individual inputs within this entire field which will translate through to the speakers you connect them to... assuming your speakers are setup in a stereo fashion.

I currently have mics on channels 1-16 on the card (corresponding to my local inputs 1-16) which I record directly in Reaper for later re-mixing. We have running a computer with X32-Mix edit. What I am wondering is if I follow your instructions from your video and have all the channels on a separate bus mix can I control the sends on fader on the X32 edit and not bother the house mix? If your machine is a Mac then I would look towards the console for your routing. My guess is you are on a Windows machine and your console routing is probably correct. For the windows machine to recognize the console you need to go to Behringer's website and download/install the X-USB driver. I discuss where to find this in the first two minutes of this video ua-cam.com/video/uijp9GD-gT0/v-deo.html

    • @AllamHouse
      @AllamHouse  3 роки тому +1

      I'm glad the video was helpful. I want to cover a few things to help you understand the different tools you mention here.
      (1) X32 Edit is an app for remotely controlling the soundboard for mixing. This could be setup by either connecting a router to the soundboard and then your laptop (or iPad) could connect to that router and control the board, or you could connect a Cat5 cable directly between your computer and board. This would be the "remote control" port on the back of the board.
      (2) X32 Edit is NOT used for recording. The X-USB slot on the back of the board is setup to be used for recording into a DAW (digital audio workstation). In your message you mention Ableton which would be the DAW you are trying to use. You will have to connect the USB cable from the X-USB slot to the computer to get signal into Ableton. Here is a video I made that discusses this with Trackslive... ua-cam.com/video/oPragZ_x7MQ/v-deo.html
      (3) You mention Osculator and I am not sure what that is to be able to speak to using it or not using it. I do not use it in my setup.

I use OBS, and I can hear the X32 sound on the live stream, but it's not near loud enough. It looks like the setup in this video is the next step. At the end of the video, you talk about adjusting stream loudness with the faders. Can I also adjust gain when Bus 5 and/or 6 are selected to increase the volume on my stream? Thanks again!

    • @AllamHouse
      @AllamHouse  5 місяців тому

      Usually the “low stream volume” begins with the input gain of each input. This video describes the common issues to address. Also, keep in mind that 0dB output on the console (clipping) is recorded as -6 dB outside of the console. If you build a mix at -12-18dB like many discuss it will be 6dB quieter when getting into OBS. ua-cam.com/video/-RjP3IKFfqM/v-deo.htmlsi=XrGH7tFhEqX-ZDJ3

    • @AllamHouse
      @AllamHouse  Рік тому

      The way the Send/Return FX work is by default they have a Bus (13-16) that you use the Sends on Fader feature to build the mix that goes into that FX rack. Then, on the left side of the console you have the returns for each rack. You can select your stream Bus, hit Sends on Fader and then add the desired FX return into that bus. Keep in mind the FX are stereo so you will diminish their actual affect when you sum it to mono going into a mono bus for your stream. If possible, use a stereo pair for your stream and this will provide a more standard experience for your listeners. I hope this helps.

    This is great! Thank you so much, it's really helpful. I'm routing from the desk into an audio interface connected to the live stream and don't have a USB - can I use a standard xlr/quarter inch jack for this? If so, do I use an 'aux out' output or just an 'out' output? Will I still get stereo from one of these, or do I need 2 separate cables? Thanks!

    • @AllamHouse
      @AllamHouse  3 роки тому

      The goal of this setup is to remove the need for an audio interface and allow the console to do all the work. All you need is an older printer cable (USB A->B) and plug it into the back of the console in the X-USB slot and connect to your computer for streaming.
      If you want to continue using the interface you would route your MixBUS to go (physically) out whichever output you are sending to your interface. If you use XLR you will need two cables and if you use AUX outs you will need two cables in order to keep a stereo mix.
      For routing with XLR you will go to the ‘OUT’ tab and for aux you will go to the ‘AUX’ tab.

    Hello, I appreciate your videos and I've followed this one and your July 21, 2020 video to set up a stereo Mix Bus (I use MB 11&12) for my stream mix which works great! Our church service last week went without a problem as far as mixing our speaker and hearing the karaoke tracks through an AUX IN running from our computer. The sound came through the USB as expected and the recording and stream were fine.
    This week I hope to use my iPad to run multi-tracks on channels 15 (left) & 16 (right) using an iPad from the stage. The tracks have a click & guide track panned left and the rest of the instruments panned right. My problem is, I cannot seem to stop channel 15 (clicks & guide) from coming through the stream mix. Do you have any advice on how to stop a channel from going out the USB and still being able to hear it in the BUS OUTS which are being used for the IEMs? Should I be running the iPad to an AUX IN and NOT regular input channels? I had not thought of that until now but could that work? Hoping you see this sooner than later, I hope to get this figured out before the weekend :)
    many thanks!

      The “Stereo Bus” button just to the left of the screen is the key here. Make sure ch 15&16 are not linked. You will need to select the channel that has your click and then de-select the Stereo Bus button (make it not orange). This will remove it from going to to the main out.
      For your Stream Mix going out USB, you want to select your stream MixBUS, hit Sends on Fader, and then turn down the fader for click mute the channel. I am making an overview video which covers this exact setup and it should be coming out soon.

    Hello, is it possible to tap audio from channels before the mutes in the main mix? I'm aiming to send audio from a channel into a mixbus without the channel mutes in the main mixbus affecting it. We have a fairly unconventional situation where we want the operator of the broadcast mix to not worry about a channel being muted in FoH and losing that channel. If I remember correctly, there are some tapping options on the analogue output page, but I think this is for adjusting whether the signal is tapped pre or post from that mixbus fader, rather than the channels that are being fed into it. Many thanks.

      The signal flow goes like this... input > Preamp > USB Card > Mute > everything else. If you wanted the stream engineer to have complete control, they would need to either mix in a DAW or on another console.

    Hi Dave, à more général question. I've never used the USER settings as for my situation I've never needed to change my set up, but here's the question.
    Are the standard BLOCK settings and the USER settings independent of each other?
    By this I mean, if I set up a channel in the USER section does this mean that that channel is no longer "in" the BLOCK settings?
    So, does USER override BLOCK or can they be used at the same time, in parallel?

      This is a great question and it becomes a combination of both. When you go to Routing > User you will find blocks of 1-8, 9-16, etc that can then be individually configured to get (or send for outputs) a signal to a specific location. You then go to Routing > Input and select that User block. In the end, whatever is selected in Routing > Input will determine your inputs.

      When you select the BUS and go to Home > Config and select the desired setup (pre fader, post fader, etc.). This will determine how your inputs interact with this BUS. To alter the setup of the actual BUS and how it is sent out you need to go to Routing > Outs. In this location you can set how the overall BUS interacts with its fader while being sent out to its desired location.

    Thank for helping me get this setup for our youth. Tonight during the stream the audio kept dropping out. It wasn't the wifi signal. Do you think it's the usb cord to the phone? We have a 40ft cord.. Is there anything else that would cause it to drop out ever 10 seconds or so. The house mix was fine but the online kept doing that.

    • @AllamHouse
      @AllamHouse  3 роки тому

      I’m not sure of your entire setup so it’s a little hard to find where the issue might be, but WiFi is very difficult to stream over especially of your device (the phone you mentioned) is having to encode the audio/video together and then stream it as well. You mentioned there is a USB cable going to the phone which doesn’t make sense to me in a normal setup, but if you can offer further details, I’m happy to help if possible.

    Do you use both xlr outputs, channel 5 & 6 to two inputs or can you use one xlr output? Meaning your stream needs both channels connected to the device that is receiving the audio? If you would only connect say channel 5, you wouldn’t have a stereo sound. Hope that makes sense. Say If your camcorder only had one xlr input. Thank you.

    • @AllamHouse
      @AllamHouse  2 роки тому

      This is correct. You want to connect both inputs to your streaming device to make sure you have a stereo audio setup for your stream. Depending on your gear there might be different methods to get the desired outcome other than just running into your camera. Also, if you want to further refine this setup, here is a different video that goes more in depth that you might enjoy. ua-cam.com/video/pMnaiuC55RY/v-deo.html

    We use a single bus that we run directly into the line input on our broadcast camera.

      The X32 has a limiter effect that I recommend adding to the bus and have it be the last thing you run through before the signal goes out to your camera. This video has some more explanation of the limiter and other setup pieces you might find helpful

    Question, I mix using mix bus 9-10 and have those set for output 9-10 via usb and the 9 is left and 10 is right. But I haven’t figured out how to pan items for stereo if I do sends on fader for one bus for a channel it follows for bus 10 and I don’t want that. The pan knob seems to affect the FOH. Any ideas what I could be doing wrong.

    • @AllamHouse
      @AllamHouse  3 роки тому

      You are correct that the pan knob only affects the FOH mix. You need to select the channel, go to the Home Screen, page over to the sends tab and then find the desired bus (9/10). Now you use the encoder knob to allow panning to the bus, but not the FOH mix.

    We're running almost this exact setup from Aux Bus to USB and broadcasting using OBS but we're having 1 issue; very low volume coming into OBS. Sure I can boost the volume in OBS but wanted to see if you had any thoughts on why my USB audio was so low and what I can do to fix that. Does mapping User Output 1-8 disable those channels for using Tracks Live to do a 32-Channel recording? At least that's what I'm observing. I guess I just have to go back in and reset output 1-8 back to default and then I can make a 32 channel recording. Just curious if there is a way round that.

      I sent a basic answer on your video of the Matrix setup, but I run a post Fader MixBUS setup and it provides the ability to have separate mixes for both the house and stream. I cover my setup in the video below. In terms of FX, when beginning I setup two FX for house and two separate ones for the stream to keep it easy to manage. Just subscribed - this was super helpful! I am having an issue though. We are running the aux mix out via a 1/4" to 1/8" stereo cable into a mini-ATEM pro. We then use OBS for the video mix and stream to UA-cam. The problem for us is that there is a super high-frequency, feedback-like sound that is constant. I cannot figure out what it is! I solo listen to the signal out of the mixer and there is no frequency/feedback issue, I've switched out all of the cables and made sure the other cameras feeding into ATEM are muted. Any thoughts?
    I'm tempted to start completely from scratch as I fear I might have switched around some routing going from a Matrix setup to this Aux send setup. Any ideas would be much appreciated!

    • @AllamHouse
      @AllamHouse  3 роки тому +1

      We are running straight out of an X32 into an ATEM Studio HD which then goes into OBS and we do not have any issues like you mentioned. Monitoring out of the console is a good start, then you should be able to monitor out of your ATEM (headphone jack) and further you could monitor out of OBS on the laptop. I would try muting all channels on the console to see if the high pitch noise is coming from a specific input or just potentially a ground loop being created from device to device. Ballast Media (UA-cam channel) has been doing some videos recently about the ATEM Mini that might be helpful.

      Yes. When you hit the mute button, it is just after the preamp so it will mute the input in everything downstream. The AUX mix is a really great setup and if you want to customize it, here is a video of the setup I use at my church.

    Hi so understanding this correctly, with this, you don’t need xlr cables connected on the back... right now the way we have been getting audio is with a monobus using a female-headphone jack cable going to the laptop using sling studio... this gets rid of all that and you don’t need xlrs?

    • @AllamHouse
      @AllamHouse  3 роки тому +1

      Correct. This will use the X-USB connection on the back of the console to connect directly to your computer (through a USB A-B cable). You will free up the XLR output and ideally step into a stereo stream.

      All you need to do is hit the routing button to the right of the screen, scroll to the AUX tab and find AUX 5 and then select the source (Bus 9), then duplicate for AUX 6 (bus 10) and you should be good to go.

    Just a quick question. I have our live stream audio mix set up on the Matrix 1-2 with the limiter on there but i wont be able to creat a mix of my sound on the matrix is that correct? Our audio is running from the usb output on the board

    • @AllamHouse

      While a Matrix is a quick, easy way to get audio to a live stream you don’t have separate control over the mix for the house and stream or the volume output. I prefer to run a Post Fader MixBUS which you can find descriptions of in these two videos. The first is more about the routing to get it out USB and the second is a full walk through of how to refine your mix for the stream.

    Hi Dave, so I copied this configuration to have a separate mix but even after adding the limiter if I leave the routing with the Bus 1 and 2 (that's the one I'm using) the volume is so low and I don't know what it is =/ only when I added the Matrix (with all the routing that u did on the other video) it's when I'm getting a decent volume on my transmission (I'm using the X USB card with the cable to my laptop) is there something by default that helps on that ? A friend use his scene on the x32 so that's the only thing I can think of; thanks for your videos they're really helpful! :D

    • @AllamHouse

      This is usually a case where your house volume seems fine because your amps are turned up and you compensate. Erring the gain too low. This video talks through the situation you are facing. ua-cam.com/video/-RjP3IKFfqM/v-deo.html

    Question, my church just purchased the X32 so the video is helpful btw. But we also use the usb out to connect the audio to the stream computer. I was told you need the most recent firmware update to be able to create a mix bus and then send that out as the stream audio, is this true or is it possible with an older firmware?

    • @AllamHouse
      @AllamHouse  3 роки тому

      You can do it with the old firmware, but it limits you to have to run your live stream bus mix on either MixBUS 1/2 or 9/10. Then your card outputs would either take outputs 1-8 or 9-16 across USB. Regardless (as mentioned in this video) the streaming computer needs to see your stream mix on USB 1/2 to function properly. With the newer firmware version (4.0 or newer) you can set and output to be routed to USB 1/2 so there is som e flexibility there. Please make sure you save tour scene to the board before upgrading your firmware, but the process is simple and only take a second (both to save tour scene and upgrade the firmware).

    Hi Dave, thanks so much for these videos!! I am 2 weeks into our x32 Compact, and could use help. We are sending a Bus to the live stream, but I am late on mics like when the service leader comes up after songs, trying to sound them to FOH and to the Live stream is tough to remember and sound at the same time. Is there a way to send post fader following FOH on raw inputs directed out to the live stream (like you Matrix video), but still have another layer on top of it (like your Bus video here) to bring in different Effects or boost mix if needed? • @AllamHouse
      @AllamHouse  Рік тому

      Card outputs are separate from physical outputs. You have 16 physical and 32 card outputs. If I am multitracking, I like to record my final stream mix along with my inputs so that does take some custom routing, but my physical outs support my stage (monitors), FOH mix, and a pair go to my video switcher for my live stream.

    Right now I have the mixbus going out from an xlr to 1/8 inch into blackmagic. We use obs, would it be better to go out of the x32 through USB into the computer running obs instead of going through blackmagic? Im also clipping on my busmix input, should I just bring everything down on through sends on fader on my auxmix live stream bus?

    • @AllamHouse
      @AllamHouse  3 місяці тому +1

      I prefer to stay in the digital space if possible by using the USB connection which also removes one point of failure.
      It is worth addressing your clipping on the MixBUS in the console before it leaves so you have a controlled signal. I tend to run my audio up to about -3 on the output meter of the console (understanding that the overall peak output of the console is the industry standard -6dBfs. I send my stream across XLR to the ATEm TV Studio HD and then across SDI to ProPresenter7. In Pro7 we bump the audio up +6 to compensate for the board and it goes out to the world at that point.
      This video here is one that describes how I use various parts of the board to get my stream as controlled as possible to be “broadcast ready”. ua-cam.com/video/9abR8wv4a9c/v-deo.htmlsi=Xg_BaV3CI8qoAP3J
