Is our universe the only universe? - Brian Greene

- Is there more than one universe? In this visually rich, action-packed talk, Brian Greene shows how the unanswered questions of physics (starting with a big one: What caused the Big Bang?) have led to the theory that our own universe is just one of many in the "multiverse."
Talk by Brian Greene.

Prof Brian Greene is a brilliant and engaging speaker. Recently I read his book The Elegant Universe. The book, though dated by now, goes far deeper into the subject. It is a good introduction to Relativity theories,Quantum Mechanics Standard Model and Super String Theories.
I fact that I find Physics hard and that for the first time I understood it so well without feeling dizzy, is just mind boggling.
Because you haven't seen the math yet
@@uddhavgokarn357 😂😂
So... instead of feeling dizzy you're feeling mind boggled? I'd probably want to rethink that thought into one that made sense.
Tesla once said everything can be thought of as vibration, frequency and energy.I can relate it to this video
I love this speech. I've watched it many times. It's absolutely fantastic.
This is really freaky. That would mean we cant exist outside the bounds of our own universe, since we are made like a programm that works only on that particular machine. It would mean that everything is bound to its own universe and simply cant exist anywhere else. This is kinda depressing, there goes the idea of traveling to one lol.
Zevin X Yes, that's true. It's just that this never hit me before while thinking about multiverse.
nanotech2080 Yeah for sure, it's mind boggling to think about. Not to mention life as we know it is just that as we know it. We have barley even traveled off of our tiny little rock in our tiny speck of a solar system. It might turn out that the "Goldilocks zone" really only applies to our type of life that specifically evolved to adapt to our specific environment. There could be gas based life, non carbon based life, life in the center of frozen planets kept warm by the planets molten core. Life could be a inevitability caused by energy, meaning sun's could even be "alive" just not in a way we currently comprehend. Now this sounds like crazy science fiction and it may be, but the universe just gets stranger the more we discover, and we keep adding pages to the book of science.
Well, it's a bit different from a place, where even our periodic table would not be possible, or elements in general.
What if someone tried to travel to another universe and just...dispersed...or collapsed. What are the chances that we will be able to create something that exits our universe as it expands ever faster and our technology might not keep up?
Pretty late answer but if there could be so many other universes, maybe if we die, we get to live again, but in a different universe?
Given that we don't even know how large our own universe is I can't imagine there NOT being a multiverse
We are even smaller than a microorganisms (much much much smaller) in terms of universe.
Before contemplating other universes, please explain this one.
Does size even matter in a multiverse? Maybe Horton did actually hear a who?
Wrong question, what do you mean by large?
I can tell you very confidently that this man does not know about the universe more than four five years old thinks of Avengers being real. This is bs and pseudo science should not be taught as being real.
How incredibly interesting!

Imagine in future there are no stars twinkling but only darkness and ppl may be thinking stars don't exist because they never saw them
I don't think people will exist without stars
Not our species at least
If stars die,a blackhole is created ,and it sucks matter, even light.
Multiple other factors that planets will not exist
Edit:I just got what you said ,I do understand it
They probably wouldn't spend so much time dreaming about a new world, and used their home planet properly and respectfully. Maybe it would be better that way.
I think they will believe that these things existed, as yes it's "ancient" data, but this data will always be conceived as true and as today's scientists grow old and die, they will prolly tell their next generation that these proofs are infact true and correct, and the reason behind and the way we found it out, and maybe who knows, if we were at today's tech and knowledge a few million or even billion years ago, who knows what we could see, maybe even the edge of the universe? We could maybe even graph the entire universe and properly study it, and maybe then we can get a theory of everything, but sadly it's never gonna happen
We are the future itself. Time only exist to us
We wont be seeing an empty dark sky, beacuse the stars in our galaxy will atleast stay they wont be dragged away beacuse of the expanding force. So dont worry they will know about the stars.
We need more people like Brian Greene and Neil deGrasse Tyson , those bring science into a non science public in an understandable way! That's what people , especially children needs !

Not only is it brilliant and groundbreaking; but it’s even engaging.
Regarding the last point he makes about how future astronomers won’t be able to tell that there’s more space out there makes me wonder if maybe the reason we can’t figure out Dark Matter & Dark Energy is because something is missing that we won’t ever know about simply because we came along when we did and that window has long passed us.

Human lifespan feels like a blink when we think to explore the universe
I am sure that with the knowledge you have, your life and thinking would be freakkkkin' awesome, needing no one but your mind and its imagination to keep that spark of excitement always alive in you. I always believe that the one who explains physics in a way that a layman with minimal knowledge of physics would understand, is the one having a deeper understanding of the same (as believed by Richard Feynmann too).
Bruh why am I just now getting this on my feed??? Better yet why after watching the finale of Loki????

Just in line with this, there can be a possibility of being multiple big bangs having their own set of multiverses - one more level deeper
Wow, Im working on a housework and I just noticed this is the guy of one of my books I read x).
love this guy's enthusiasm!!!
Brian loves what he does. He goes right into his subject.
I’ve played with the idea of a multiverse and the idea that if there are infinite universes then there must exist universes identical to each other, and while this is possible, there is also the possibility of infinite universes that aren’t like each other one bit. Let’s look at something as simple as our natural numbers. They go on infinitely in a positive and negative direction however while there are an infinite set of numbers not one value repeats. The odds of finding a number identical to the value of 1 are 0 and that goes for any value.
And as far as dark energy goes; with our current laws of physics we can’t create nor destroy energy however it can be manipulated. Could there be a way to someday manipulate dark energy and would doing so damage or better the universe we live in?
When he mentioned gravity I thought he was going to say that the gravity of the other universes is dragging ours apart.
WOOOAAAHHH
What an idea!
i thought the same thing
Brilliant !! I am truly touched.
This is best ever done by Prof. Brian Greene
Update :
The large hadron collider was unable to find anything supporting the string theory.
But we found "evidence" of another universe that collided, but we can't really know if that is it or another phenomena
@@user-ib1dx4dh3n But there is also evidence that the eridanus supervoid caused the CMB cold spot, and not another universe

"the true nature of reality beckons from just beyond of the horizon"

The greatest minds sometimes come to the conclusion that the more you start to learn and understand about our reality, you conclude that you know relatively nothing bc we can’t fathom infinite wisdom. There will always be finite limits to what you could possibly know, yet there are infinite subjects that you will never remotely understand or comprehend.
Please provide us subtitles, thanks
Thanks are due for speaking simple and clear English making it easy for an eastern student to pick everything easily.
Really privileged and blessed with the talk too
It’s easy to see how the universe is expanding at an increasing rate. We are surrounded by dark matter even here on earth quantum physics proves it. In fact; what we perceive as solid is far from it.
Between every atom there is space. Inside of every atom the subatomic protons, neutrons, and elections have space between them. Even smaller particles called quarks and leptons have space between them. So considering the density of subatomic particles being suspended then the infinite amount of dark mater is what is pushing the universe apart.
Well, the center depends on where you're observing from, so you're always at the center of your observable universe.
True but also we know the sun is the center of our solarsystem. But it isn't the center of the Milkyway
WoW, this theory is super cool, it answer the so much asked question if there are many other universes out there. The real question is why there is more matter then antimatter in this universe. For any universe to start their existence MUST have the perfect explanation and to explain why it also must have the perfect questions. Why the universes are created and what is between universes.
WOW,THAT JUST BLEW MY MIND!!!!!!!
it's sad to know that future astronomers will forget our discovery and knowledge about other galaxies and how big and old our universe is , or dark matter, string theory etc, just like we ignore cave men's drawings of gods and aliens visiting.

@@joker3053 I don't know man, cave Mens drawings were drawings whereas there is recorded evidence of this eras findings and even if they cant understand our languages there are saved mathematics and codes we have created that are binary that they should understand. Plus some people belive the Carmen's drawing and are extremely interested in them and research them so what's to say future people wouldn't do the same and unlike cavemen there is much more evidence of our eras inteligence, not to say cavemen weren't also intelligent as they did set the ball rolling so to speak

"Which means that we are living through a remarkably privileged era. When certain deep truths about the cosmos are still within reach of the human spirit of exploration. It appears that it may not always be that way." This made me so sad, one day these records will most likely be lost, and that hurts my heart.
