    I am very grateful for your video. It has helped me a lot. Not even the tutors were able to help me with this. I gave up for three years and finally decided to check online for help. Thanks to you I'll resume my quilting. I just tried all what you explained and my machine works wonderfully. And I thought I didn't have a good machine. Thank you, Thank you ,thank you!

      Tension is a very tricky thing to get the knack of as it can make the machine make really weird noises that makes you think your breaking the machine., I've broke the needle through the material all crunching up....so I keep watching these videos looking for my particular machine.

    Appreciate the demo on how tight the bobbin casing should be for free motion quilting. I have a singer L500, which has a metal bobbin casing like the one you showed. I have a problem when I use a 60 weight thread in bobbin though. The thread somehow gets wrapped around the pin the bobbin sits on underneath the machine and breaks when I try to quilt. I cannot figure why. I don’t have this problem with other thread weights. I was wondering if you might have an idea of what’s causing it and how the fix it. I have rethreaded it numerous times to no avail. Thanks in advance.

    • @HelenGoddenQuilts
      @HelenGoddenQuilts  3 роки тому

      The reason a thread wraps around the spindle is 2 reasons. if the bobbin is over full the thread can slide off and wrap. The other reason is the thread is light weight and the bobbin gets up so much speed whilst stitching and then when you stop sewing, it has so much momentum it keeps spinning and it gets back lash and the bobbin continues to spin inside the bobbin case. You need to ask a sewing machine shop for some back lash springs or "genie washers" suitable for your bobbin case size.

    • @little1942
      @little1942 3 роки тому

      @@HelenGoddenQuilts
      That makes a lot sense! I will look into the the washers and see if that will help. And I will try a partially filled bobbin also. Thank you for your quick response and insights!

    Great tutorial. I love the HQ videos, they are so easy to understand. One question, are you testing the tension right on the edge of the quilt sandwich(batting and backing)? We have been using little fake sandwiches but they are so hard to hold on to.

    • @HelenGoddenQuilts
      @HelenGoddenQuilts  7 років тому

      As long as it is tested through all three layers, whether you use the edge or a sample - it must be similar batting.

      Is the bird nesting on top or bottom of quilt. If on bottom, your top thread has skipped the tension path. re thread and watch my video again. cheers

    I have this machine Juki DDL-555. I'm having a problem with it. The stitching changing nob is lose and when I stitch it doesn't stitch properly. Two stitches come normally and the third one is bigger then the normal stitch size. How can I fix it?

      Stitch length in free motion is the movement of your hands. I am not really sure of your question sorry

      Sorry I missed your question. Sounds like you needed a bigger needle size.

      The theory in Tension video applies to all machines. Even those with supposedly auto tension. Just over ride it. Your machine can not know all the variations we throw at it.
