They had no choice but to admit it because the university that held the event was getting hate for alleged faulty equipments and ineffective organizers. If jyp didn't admit their scheme, it would've tarnished that university's reputation and made it harder for them to negotiate with other groups or bands to play there in the future. I honestly think what jyp did was very cheap and unnecessary. They could've just made nmixx perform an acapella and it would've been the same without the trickery.

I think an important thing to note was that when bae spoke about the thing on bubble, people called her a liar and said she was misleading fans. Ultimately, I do believe that's why (or at least part of why) squad said that they planned it. Either way, this is shows some fans insecurities (whether about their fav group or even themselves) and how some fans just have piss poor reading skills. Like squad literally said in their statement that the girls didn't know but I still see people saying that the girls knew. I am not an official fan of NMIXX, but they did amazing they are so stable and in still in sync even without the music. Nowadays in KPOP you don't get to hear that well of stable vocals and synchronization without music. NMIXX really do deserve the good attention.

Hilarious that they called it 'rehearsed' which... Yeah singers rehearse? Every kpop group rehearses their dancing and and increasing number their live singing. They all plan for the unexpected and are trained to carry on. Most of the nmixx performances I've seen in the last couple months have been with a low backtrack that they are clearly live singing over. So of course they were surprised but not unprepared. Can you imagine if they did react badly and didn't do the performance or sang badly? They obviously can't win if people are giving them hate over doing their best. There is more amd more outrage marketing in kpop which is so sad. Nmixx members get a lot of personal hate thrown their way and it has clearly affected their mental health
For the members, it was the real deal. As a singer myself my track has cut out (not me side-eyeing the tech crew in my past performance) the fact they were able to carry on like that is impressive. I have visibly been stressed vocally when it happened to me. My issue is this creates unnecessary stress for the members themselves and I can imagine what goes on inside their heads. Also, JYPE should have been mindful that when a group gets backlash (especially female groups) the members become the face of the hate and have to take the brunt of the hate even when it is not their fault. Some K-pop fans do not carry the empathy or nuance to understand the bigger picture. What I would have done for Nmixx is give them a vocally challenging single album if they wanted to flex their vocals (as they should).
I guess I'm still confused on why the stunt was pulled in the first place, like the blatant answer is attention, since NMIXX while praised, aren't beloved by the wider community like IVE or NewJeans. But the attention to come from this will be "wow NMIXX are great live singers", something that they are... already praised for? I just feel like it's a stunt with just as many possible negative outcomes as positive ones, an example would be the backlash that the members are getting, for live singing? Yeah I'm afraid the Kpop community is past repairable damage at this point.
I think there's a difference between knowing that NMIXX has amazing vocalists and having their skills highlighted with this event, especially when directly juxtaposed against one of the hot topics in the kpop space: the declining vocal abilities of popular groups. Having a viral moment like this isn't just another confirmation of NMIXX's talents, it's has a much larger reach. It can even send an implied message of "how aren't they more popular with this kind of skill?" But this is just me speculating, which is all I can do since I doubt JYPE will let us in on their PR strategy. While people could call the tactic slimy, and I wouldn't argue on that, I don't see it as any different than the strategy YG has been using for BabyMonster with their "live vocals." If anything, and maybe this is my toxic side coming out, I think revealing it was faked was a terrible move. For everyone involved. But yeah, the hateful responses the girls were getting were my main concern and are entirely unnecessary.

this is basically the whole babymonster live band music show fiasco but jyp version. another naive attempt at marketing. if your idols can sing, they will definitely be recognised for it. no need to drag a whole ass band to a music show or in this case intentionally cut the backtrack. what makes it worse is that uni festivals are by default non-professional in setting, so this intentional backtrack cut was leaked by some backstage coordinator which forced squ4d to release that message. they should have either came clean right after the performance, giving some discussion topic for the fan interactions before the next song or just stay quiet with it, but of course in a non-professional setting, its bound to get leaked.

I didn't really know about them, only really in passing. But hearing about this planned stunt feels really dishonest and distasteful. For the members, it was the real deal. As a singer myself my track has cut out (not me side-eyeing the tech crew in my past performance) the fact they were able to carry on like that is impressive. I have visibly been stressed vocally when it happened to me. My issue is this creates unnecessary stress for the members themselves and I can imagine what goes on inside their heads. Also, JYPE should have been mindful that when a group gets backlash (especially female groups) the members become the face of the hate and have to take the brunt of the hate even when it is not their fault. Some K-pop fans do not carry the empathy or nuance to understand the bigger picture. What I would have done for Nmixx is give them a vocally challenging single album if they wanted to flex their vocals (as they should).
It even being called a "lipsyncing" scandal is wild, if people are going to call it a "scandal" atleast call it live singing lmao

I guess I'm still confused on why the stunt was pulled in the first place, like the blatant answer is attention, since NMIXX while praised, aren't beloved by the wider community like IVE or NewJeans. But the attention to come from this will be "wow NMIXX are great live singers", something that they are... already praised for? I just feel like it's a stunt with just as many possible negative outcomes as positive ones, an example would be the backlash that the members are getting, for live singing? Yeah I'm afraid the Kpop community is past repairable damage at this point.
I think there's a difference between knowing that NMIXX has amazing vocalists and having their skills highlighted with this event, especially when directly juxtaposed against one of the hot topics in the kpop space: the declining vocal abilities of popular groups. Having a viral moment like this isn't just another confirmation of NMIXX's talents, it's has a much larger reach. It can even send an implied message of "how aren't they more popular with this kind of skill?" But this is just me speculating, which is all I can do since I doubt JYPE will let us in on their PR strategy. While people could call the tactic slimy, and I wouldn't argue on that, I don't see it as any different than the strategy YG has been using for BabyMonster with their "live vocals." If anything, and maybe this is my toxic side coming out, I think revealing it was faked was a terrible move. For everyone involved. But yeah, the hateful responses the girls were getting were my main concern and are entirely unnecessary.

I was impressed the first time I saw that video yesterday. It reminded me of EXID performing “I Feel Good” and the backup vocals failed. They didn’t miss a beat. I don’t think there’s many girl groups that can pull that off. NMIXX is definitely one of the few. Good for them! 👏🏽

nmixx is a great team, their vocals are impressive and so are their performances, as well as being brilliant in variety shows
Anyone who hates them for this is just mad because their faves won't be able to continue singing if the background music stops. Besides, their company and school committee planned it, they have no idea about it. You can see Jiwoo is hesitant to continue but just go on with it once she sees the other members are determined to finish the performance. This is technically a stage sabotage if you think about it but NMIXX turned it into a great moment.

I consider this group the best group in their generation. A real deal idol material. Whether it's staged or not, the situation was managed. The thing I was thinking is what if it happened the other way around? Are they gonna blame the group? Or will just say sorry? It's like pushing a group to a cliff. this is basically the whole babymonster live band music show fiasco but jyp version. another naive attempt at marketing. if your idols can sing, they will definitely be recognised for it. no need to drag a whole ass band to a music show or in this case intentionally cut the backtrack. what makes it worse is that uni festivals are by default non-professional in setting, so this intentional backtrack cut was leaked by some backstage coordinator which forced squ4d to release that message. they should have either came clean right after the performance, giving some discussion topic for the fan interactions before the next song or just stay quiet with it, but of course in a non-professional setting, its bound to get leaked.
I feel like if they are gonna admit it at the end, they should have admitted to it right away after the event, the members didn't know about it so I guess it is still somewhat real. But why apologize? the fans loved it. why would you apologize? such a stupid decision.

Companies will continously advertise their groups by their strengths because that's how they get new eyes on them and a better reputation. I should also mention that a lot of people say that they know of NMIXX's great vocals, but arent fans, which is yet another reason companies do this. To push those on the verge, to actually stan them. If not their vocals, how else should they promote NMIXX?

I think it was obvious that it was planned, maybe they even told the girls, because nmixx company is trying almost everything to get them to go viral (as they should, theyre the company) but like it doesn't change the fact that they 1. Always sing live, it's not like they only sang live in this performance because they knew the sound was getting cut off 2. They sang amazingly while dancing a choreography that's on the harder side, no matter how much planning goes into that, if they didnt have the talent they wouldn't be able to pull it off

I totally agree with your statements about Nmixx. My only disagreement is that the girls were also in on it too. Because there reactions was not the normal shock behavior and then continued on. It seem like they knew that the music was going to stop, but the girl just didn't know when it was going to happen. That seem to be more likely because of how the girl reacted. I didn't really know about them, only really in passing. But hearing about this planned stunt feels really dishonest and distasteful.
