Anyone who is curious about the full list I was alluding to can find a link to the playlist in the description!! Thanks to DJ again for making it for me!! Edit: I wanna use this chance to address some things. 1) All of these are my interpretation. If you don't agree with them, that's fine. But calling me an idiot over them in the comments isn't gonna change the made up scenario I envisioned while I was bored in class. It is not the deep yall. 2) Yes. Any isn't a romance song. I just wanted as excuse to use the meme. Jesus. 3) Deep end is 5 five flags from the partners' persceptive. Not Felix's. I thought that was obvious, so I didn't feel the need to explain.
now when i listen to domino the beginning of the song starts in my head with AYO DOMINO instead of normal changbin part 😭😭😭 AYO DOMINO corrupted my mind
I don't know why "I like it" is where it clicked for me, but it led me down a rabbit hole in their discography of these types of songs. It was fun to say the least!
Stray kids make very realistic songs; in K-pop, they promote fantasy and an imaginary world far from reality. Stray kids have the courage to bring up topics that are taboo and not talked about much in society. They are very important youth topics like loneliness, phobia, social pressure, side effects of obsession, insomnia, struggle, inspiration for youth, hard work to achieve goals, determination, etc. They raise awareness and ask questions of society in this matter, and this important topic that comes from them is mesmerizing, and I respect them as artists for being brave enough to bring this topic up.
I'm new to skz and just yesterday scanned the I Like You lyrics and... how is it a red flag? If a person straight up tells you they just want to be "friends with benefits" it's a green flag. A 🚩 would be if they made you believe they love you just to use you. If you fall in love with someone who doesn't love you and you're hurt, it's not the other person's fault. People need to realise K-dramas are a fantasy. One night stands and such are ok if both agree to it, we all know we don't do IT just to make babies.
@@monikanagyova8834 If you are talking about the song "I like it" I strongly disagree with you, and it seems like most do. It's true that a person being open about simply wanting something casual is a good thing. But the lyrics and dialog in "I like it" suggest that the relationship was never established to be something casual. It seems more like the narrator started a "committed" relationship with someone, without ever showing their true intentions. And whenever their partner voices their wish for making things official they just make excuses and change the topic. One of the lyrics literally is: [Don't ask, "What are we?"] It shows that it was never a mutual decision. It shows that the narrator wants their partner to believe they're in a relationship so that they are exclusive to them, but at the same time the narrator has the opportunity to cheat on their partner because "it was never an established relationship". That's the epidemic of toxicity and manipulation.
@@milli3377 Fair enough, as I said, I only scanned the lyrics and it looked "fair play" to me. Maybe because I don't tend to read between the lines and unless you explicitly tell me we are in an official, exclusive relationship, I'm not going to believe we are, whether I'm in love or not.
These friends with benefits type relationships that people talk about rarely end well, I'm not against them people can do what they want I'm just saying that from what I've seen from my friends from the outside looking in usually one or the other end up wanting more.
I beg everyone to watch the segment in the ATE intro where they discuss I Like It, because it was way too funny😂 (Jisung insisting that hes a good man and that he wasn't involved in the lyrics, Changbin saying that some people can relate followed by a hard cut of Jeongin saying he can't relate and them exposing the fandom for liking these type of love songs)
Also I recommend to watch this debate they did about which protagonist is worst EX vs Chill 😂 (search: Time Out #1 MT Part 3|[SKZ CODE] Ep.35 min 5:27)
Imagine them being like.... Step out, we are Stray Kids! We gotta tell you something...We are spider...thingies. And we made a song about spiders so you wouldn't be surprised. Thank you stay!
The fact that Red Lights is a 4 red flags, and the 'relationship' in the song is actually a metaphor for being a workaholic.... That's some good songwriting
I really like how the music videos in "Venom" and "Red Lights" complement the narratives of the songs. In "Venom", the members are always putting each other in situations that risk their lives. At one point, they even reference the work "Rest Energy" by Marina Abramovic and Ulay, which is a performance piece where one person holds a bow and arrow pointing at the other's heart; the piece is about love and trust, about trusting your life in the one you love most. At the end of the music video, Felix and Seungmin have the opportunity to leave after finding the exit door of that mysterious place, but they decide to stay; so even though they are aware of the danger, they stay of their own free will. "Red Lights" uses the BDSM theme not only to further highlight the sexy side of the song, but also to talk about this dependence that they cannot free themselves from. As in "Venom", they know that the relationship is not healthy, but they continue with it because they can find some kind of pleasure in it, even if it is just sexual.
Absolutely agree with everything EXCEPT I Like It. Man that shit deserves 5 flags especially cause the narrator is blatantly admitting that they don't wanna commit as if they see no wrong in that ?!? Still one of the best songs on this list tho- 👀
The thing with I Like It is that it really depends on the individual's opinion. As long as the feeling of not wanting to commit is from both sides, there is nothing wrong with it. If the narrator however would try to gaslight and force the other person to not put a label on it, then it would be 5 flags FOR SURE. But in it itself no one can say the narrator is a bad person for not wanting to commit, as long as they're open and honest about it to their potential situationship iykwim It is definitely a total vibe though, regardless of the lyrics, and one of my favourites from ATE
@@syris0325 i agree with you, and i like the way changbin put it. when i initially read the lyrics, the first thing that came to mind was the excitement of the 'talking stage' before an actual relationship forms, and how fun and easy-going it is. so i like how changbin puts emphasis on that, because the flirty and playful vibe before you really commit is definitely something i've experienced and appreciated before. i imagine people who don't have much experience flirting and chatting people up wouldn't find it relatable at all (no offense jeongin lol
If you watched the whole stayweek interview I think when they talk about the album in detail and discuss this song. Han specifically states that they wanted to do something different and write another song but form "the villains perspective." But he was also very hard on the fact none of the member and including himself can relate, and also called out some ppl in the fandom for being able to relate to this song😭
14:12 i might be the only person I've seen that somehow gets what changbin meant... as someone who is aromantic and doesn't quite understand relationships and different types of love, I could honestly relate to the lyrics. Feels a bit lonely
@elleumas it's not about being in a relationship. It's like... liking the idea of being in love but not love itself. Like you kick your feet at a fictional romance but the idea of being in a relationship yourself just feels wrong.
Same lol which is why sometimes I do be questioning why people call it a big red flag song, I am aroace so that might be one of the reason I don't see problem with it (since I never have a serious romantic feeling to someone) Also because I have dated with someone I'm not "romantically" in love (.. more than once) because I thought it would be alright since I still like their companionship,, it's a wrong decision of mine which is why I felt the "I like it" song relatable.
This is I know not meant to be taken too seriously but it must be pointed out that songs like Venom and Red Lights can definitely be interpreted as a toxic relationship but not with another person but with the k-pop industry and the drive of the work itself. The reality is that k-pop idols have experienced a much different sort of life than those outside of that world. Most idols were discouraged or even banned from even dating in their contracts. As they get older more idols are taking more control of their own lives. We know nothing about Stray Kids personal lives and any relationships they may have. We don't know what any of the members sexuality is and it's none of our business but we do know that male idols are supposed to always be desirable to female fans which could create more toxicity if any members were gay or bisexual. I am not going to lie, I have crushed on all of them myself but I also see how Stays can be really toxic. So it's not surprising that toxic themes chop up in SKZ songs as they experience a ton of toxicity from outside sources.
Oh, absolutely. Obviously I analyzed the songs through a comedic lense for the video, but it would be really easy, and probably more interesting, to interpret the songs through a sociological context.
I never considered Any to be a love song, from what i remeber the lyrics talked about not knowing what you want to do in life, having too many choices and being overwhelmed by how much you can do, and then being conflicted by what you want to do. I personally related to that song from that perspective as a person that has so much they want to do they end up doing nothing at all because of fear. It's intresting how different people view a song, great video !
Good points, but I think many of the things on this list don't actually blatantly state "relationship." I know Chan likes to have songs with themes about the creative workflow and "toxic" things that can happen within working too hard (Being addicted to an occupation you have and wanting to escape it).
agreed but i do think that nearly all those songs have a double meaning to them that can be taken as a relationship too, or maybe its just what comes out of personifying stressful work as a figure on its own. its very unique to skz imo bc of their themes red lights comes to mind; some in the fandom were critical about fans interpreting it as a sexy song because the lyrics are apparently about this toxic phenomenon of working too hard- but i think thats kinda bs. i mean, i think there can be multiple angles of the song- they didnt have bondage and bedrooms and sultry looks in the music video for no reason, after all. its not just a sexy song or a toxic song or a song about working too hard- i think it can be all three at once based on the performance and interpretation
How stray kids feel after writing the most heart wretching lyrics about toxic relationships and putting a funky little instrumental in the background: 👯♂️👯♂️👯♂️👯♂️
Stray kids do not present the imaginary world or just young people just talk about love like other k-pop groups talked about and promote imaginary world, but stray kids represent the reality, the realistic world where people, youth facing so many things in life I express their discography as"EXPRESSION OF LIFE " "EXPRESSION OF PEOPLE" "EXPRESSION OF YOUTH" Human and life is so complicated you can learn and grow each passing day.❤
Here's my unpopular opinion about I Like It: While the narrator could be a player, he could also be someone who's been hurt in love before and doesn't want to get hurt again. They found a person they like and enjoy time with but they don't want to get broken again. Here's my reason: Assuming that the narrator of this song is sincere about these lyrics, he simply could be someone who is afraid of commitment and the possibility of being hurt that comes with a deeper relationship with someone. The lines that stuck out to me the most are: 1. I love that I like you, but I don't wanna love. 2. There will be fewer scars this way. 3. Truth is always too deep Some lines that makes me think that it's not written by a player is: 1. Don't wanna end this game, hope it goes for **eternity** 2. Let's not go official, we can keep the **"you and me"** Here it sounds like the narrator wants to be with this person forever and doesn't want anyone to come between them (aka they'll only like each other and none else). However they don't want to commit and deal with the burden and seriousness that comes with a serious relationship. Is it a red flag? Yes. But is it a player's anthem? My answer would be no.
I see this perspective too. The narrator wants the honeymoon phase to last a little longer, enjoying things now and taking time instead of rushing into it. I think the message is straight forward and honest.
The biggest issue for me is that all of these songs are so incredible and I can’t get enough of them. But that means that all of the flags have disappeared.
Since I know that they write their songs themselves am I judging their characters???.......No As a songwriter myself I understand putting yourself in different experiences to tell a story. Because essentially we are storytellers. But this is like a lot of songs ⁉️ LIKE A LOT. I really need to know the backstory of these songs and how they came into fruition.
at least collision might be about a kdrama han has watched if I remember correctly, so you can assume that these might be them getting inspired by what they're watching though how many of these are inspired by sth and how many are inspired by real life is a mystery
I think Stray kids have said that they get inspiration from media (kdramas, mangas, etc.) ...but do I believe them? Not really. But it gives us bangers so I'm fine with it lol,
@@wireshred FR I totally to not believe they are getting ALL of their inspiration from media LMAO but it's their job so they can't tell us all their business. Also, it might be true in some cases because they ARE creative artists
I'm gonna be so honest right now, I have never been in a relationship before but have written several love songs, one of them could even be interpreted as if I was cheated on. But yeah, I doubt they're writing ALL of these songs out of nowhere 💀
"Stray Kids's songs not typical love songs" is actually what makes me like their musics so much. Already tired listening to teary-fluffy-bubbly love songs. Their musics are so unique, the lyrics are amazing & touching. They can be ambiguous, vague & can be interpreted as we like, & I love that. Anyway, thanks for this entertaining videos 😊
this was a really funny video shhs. also ngl the toxicity somewhat makes the songs more relatable, it's what i like about music, you can express thoughts and feelings that you may have in a way that makes them into art. with the don't let me love you. it reminds me of myself quite a bit. that sort of low self-esteem turned into this sort of thorny shell that's like "don't come close or i'll hurt you and you'll regret it because i'm so much worse than you think" a bit like Elsa from frozen thinking she's worse than she really is, and it turns out her own self-loathing was the problem. but yeah, I've been in that mindset, of believing you're that bad, believing you're hurting those around you unintentionally, and it's not a good one to be in but it's kind of real? you sort of had the interpretation of the song as in, this guy's blaming the other person for his toxic behaviour, which is true but i dont think that's the entire depth of the song tbh, like in a way yes, but also from the perspective of that person, you really think you're doing the other person a favour by warning them that you're just not as great as they see you, especially if we put it in the fan vs idol parasocial-ness of it all, some people see them as these guys that can do no wrong and stuff, and it's just like when someone has this idea of you as being better than you are, it's kind of uncomfortable? because you know you'll hurt them by disappointing them in the end, which is hard, so you try to break that illusion straight away like, don't love me because I'm actually a lot worse than i seem. like the lyrics " I know how this is going to end, ideals are an illusion, reality is cruel, there is no such thing as perfect" and the other person looking at him with "gentle eyes" that left him "scarred" as in like when faced with people who see you in such a positive way and not being able to handle it and deal with it, because you feel like you might not deserve it, or feel unable to accept someone's love in fear you'll hurt them and stuff like that. idk this is a waffle. anyway the song is cool, and kind of deep, that's what I like about it. Like the narrator may be in the wrong for trying to push the other person away but like it's an honest feeling.
I think Venom is just as bad as Red Lights, perhaps even worse. To me the protagonist of venom has gone through all the stuff of Red Lights, has finally found an out and just... refuses. Being stuck in a toxic relationship is one thing, but being self aware about it all, having the option to leave, but just going like "Ok, Fun! Let's do it all over again!" I'd say that's 5 red flags.
Interesting video! Can't say i agree with a lot of the interpretations as i mostly read them as being about rship with oneself, societal expectations or rships in general, not specifically romantic ones. I honestly feel a bit like Changbin in those clips re "I like it" (where his perspective OP sadly cut from the video). The prevalent talking point in the fandom about the song is its supposed toxicity, but people - different relationship formats can work for different people! The heteronormative (not just re sexual orientation) romantic+sexual+exclusive+closed+committed rship model is just that, one possible model. The thing that matters is that the rship is based on mutual respect and consent. And the lyrics indicate possible disagreements, but not a lack of these though. It's funny bc like on one hand in our generation there has been increasingly conversions about rship anarchy, poly, open, casual rship models etc, but on the other hand the always, always prevalent need to fulfill the most conventional expectations. I personally WANT to get back into dating, but (and i should add i'm a woman. No, wanting the most conventional rship model is not a characteristic of a woman) this is the real toxicity here, the "one size fits all" belief which scares me.
I actually really like that their songs aren't often about love in a romantic way or such. It's way more interesting to me, being kind of bored of the topic... makes music more interesting to me‼️🙌
Agree but I do love their songs and I loved Seungmin's harmonized version of "I Like It". The only one that was a bit much for me was Han's Miserable -10 red flags for the protagonist and subject - total dysfunction - you're thinking of someone else but I would rather die than give you up. Yeah, there are relationships like that which end up on the news. Kinda like that one Lauryn Hill song but way darker.
@@aqua2767 I gave it 10 red flags for both of the people in the story - 5 flags each. Lauryn Hill's Ex-Factor has a similar story but not exact. "A bit much for me" is just how I relate to the energy or vibe. I play all their songs at least 10 times when it first drops So I listened before I read the lyrics, so IDK, it was just the energy Miserable (You and Me) tells the story of a dysfunctional relationship 1 person wants to be with someone else, the protagonist doesn't want to let them go even though they know about it, They have constant arguments about it, but for some reason they stay together. *"Who's in your head right now, someone other than me" "If I have to let go now, I'd rather be dead, baby The pointless argument ends yet again with a goodbyе If this is the last of us, I might just die"*
You can also add here Miserable by Han. It's basically begging for his lover's love and attention even though he knows there's someone else on his lover's mind, and said that if it was his fault, his sorry and begs for a rewind in the relationship 😂 🚩but it's a banger though 😂
The boys take inspiration from a lot of things. That doesnt necessarily mean that they're writing about themselves - just like how toxic people can write sweet songs. It shouldnt be a judge of character unless we truly know who they are - which we don't. Songs are often stories that dont always reflect on who you are at that given moment or even at all. People in happy relationships an write the saddest songs, and vice versa. For all we know, they just watch a lot of television that has these themes and are inspired to write about it. They could also be switching persepectives from past experiences. Point is, we dont know the whole story. And what one person may view as toxic can be iffy to another person. For example, "Don't Want to Admit" is something i personally see as a rather typical breakup song. There's blame made out of hurt, there's a want it back, not wanting to give up, missing the other person, etc. It's a matter of perspective as well as what translation you're reading - someone could have easily gotten a different translation of "Don't Want to Admit". I dont analyze all their lyrics, nor have i listened to all their songs, but seeing as its not their whole catalogue that's toxic and theres several songs that are genuine love songs (ie "I Like You", "Sorry, I like you", more i cant currently think of or hadn't heard yet) Ps. None of this was written to take this video seriously, I'm just pointing out that - yes, some of these are in no doubt, no wiggle room, for being toxic (eg Venom), but some can easily be up for debate by perspective Edit: The songs can also have double meanings, too. For example, personifying work - as we know how much they work, and even how addicted to it Chan is. That's the special thing about art and songs: double meanings, perspectives, and even hidden meanings that maybe we're not seeing.
I'm a new stay and the moment I heard and read the lyrics of 'I like it', I was like "This song is literally the Situationship anthem." and turns out that I'm not the only one XD but I can't deny the fact that the song is a bop and one of my fav track on the album.
Caught myself liking the video before even watching it cuz in WIRESHRED WE TRUST TO ALWAYS DELIVER BANGERS. I I love your voice btw so soothing to my ears
As an international STAY who doesn't know any Korean, I had no what these songs were about. It's problematic for impressionable people but for people like me, it's just a bop.
Same. I’m British and don’t know Korean. I try to watch a MV that has english subtitles, not that’ll I’ll remember the translation when listening to it without subs. Some MV’s you can get the jist what the songs about, sometimes. I’m a relatively new Stay too, there’s so many songs I’ve still not heard... including some that’s in this video. Their music catalogue is huge.
To be fair, they've low key made a brand out of not really dating, at least not seriously. Realistically, I'm sure they do and have openly admitted that they have in the past, but they aren't really a "romantic/sentimental love song" kind of group😂
@@Mikaelson. lol 100% agree. I stand by that part of why I like them is that they don’t make mushy love songs and in a lot of ways don’t really sound like K-pop 🤷♀️
Wow, you make me want to analyse those songs again and again. There are some songs that i didnt expect to see in this list but after hear your opinion, i kinda agree to all of it tho. Thank you for making this video btw❤
i love these types of songs because love is so complicated in the world and not everything is lovey dovey, makes skz more relatable to many people who have a harder time with love.
girll i was laughing the entire video. i’ve always been wondering other peoples takes on skz love songs lmao, and i’m glad i found ur channel!! new sub fr now
I clicked on the video without expecting much, but I was surprised by the in-depth review. I really enjoyed how you narrated each song’s story. I agree on how skz's love songs don’t fit the typical way of portraying it by other artists. But the way they write each character so vividly that it feels like watching a whole series is what impacts the most. Hoping to see more video-rankings like this ^^
As a strong love song hater I really love how SKZ approaches love ♥ I love intense songs and "good love" doesn't have any of that, I like heartbreak and toxic love in music haha the only one I dissagree with being on this list is Any, that song is about being young and people and society pressuring you to chose a path but you don't like that and want to make a decision on your own when you're ready, it says that is not that they hate everything, they're actually into a lot of things, but they're in that "what I want to do with my life?" moment
I love this list 😂 I need the kids to watch this video and take responsibility of their lyrics. At this point I became to think they're too bad at love. But what a bop songs. I cannot stop singing I like it. It's my fav in the album 🙌🏻
i find that the songs written by Jisung and another member (i forgot 😖), are like “i would die for you”, and then songs written by Chan, Hyunjin, and Changbin are literally sex/situationships 💀 (love it tho, they get that life)
This whole video mostly made me realize that.....I interpret way more of their songs to be about friendship and falling out between friends than romantic partners lol like there's some obvious romantic ones like On Track or Red Lights or Venom, but for me Any is about ambition not love and I've always interpreted I Hate to Admit (edit: and Deep End) as falling out with a friend
as a long-time skz fan who didn't discover i was aromantic until i was 22 (literally this year) i can finally say i understand why i love skz's portrayal of love in their music. it sucks when you don't understand your feelings and you tear down the people around you, whether intentionally or not. i love that for skz, when they talk about it, romance isn't always sunshine and rainbows. it can be blatantly toxic but usually it's down to a narrator who can't figure out their feelings. it seems much closer to someone like me, whose idea of love has been so warped literally my entire life so far, can relate to. navigating romance is far from easy for everyone and it's hard to find good portrayals of that in music
I had no idea “any” or “venom” was a love song, I agree with most of the video and all, but I think they make theses songs cuz that’s how shit is in reality, especially with “I like it” that’s literally every relationship in the west these days, they make songs that describe society and how people be acting in relationships and especially the toxic ones.
I`m glad youtube recommended this video to me. Such an interesting topic I`ve never thought about Edit: What I`ve noticed is that i barely listen to most songs that are mentioned here because i don`t really like them or really vibe with them like for example Chill, Collision, Deep End, Don`t let me love you, B Me, I like it, Any or Happy. When it comes to Red Light I noticed from the beginning on how kinda weird the lyrics are. "I cannot breathe when you`re not by my side" is very... unhealthy xD When it comes to venom, i never realized the lyrics tbh.
Also, i feel like i want to comment on this even though you mentioned in the beggining that you did streach the word love to all it's meanings. Love doesn't have to be romantic, it can be familial(idk if that's the right word) or platonic. It's not always romantic or sexual partners. Most of these love songs like B me, i hate to admit or deep end i related to because of a past friendship that ended badly and caused me a lot of hurt. Friendship breakups can hurt just as much as any other breakup, so i think it's good to consider that some love songs can be about friends as well.
Ngl for the most part I felt like it have several different interpretation, and most of the quote unquote "love" song doesn't seem to mean it's love for a person or human being ngl, it's more like a toxic feelings towards their job/work relationship (for songs like venom or even red light) That's just my personal interpretation tho lol
When you were talking about chill it kind of saved me from a relationship that I was in while watching this I got too emotionally attached to someone who would make fun of my best friends with his brother and I I wanted to end the relationship but I was stuck because I was too emotionally attached and afraid of change but during that part I kind of realised what was happening to me and we ended the relationship and I'm now with someone who is right for me I honestly just want to thank you for that
I really like this video I must say. You definitely pointed out some things I didn't notice in a few of the songs. But I have to disagree with "B Me", "Any" and "Deep End". I believe "B Me" is about leaving a toxic and controlling relationship so that they can finally be themselves. I thought it was about the protagonist at first lying to themselves that their relationship is perfect despite the partner being so controlling and manipulative to them, but then snap back to reality and realise how toxic their relationship actually is and gains the courage to leave. This doesn't only apply to romantic relationships but also with friends, family, etc. But maybe both the protagonist and the partner were both in the wrong but from what I'm getting, the protagonist is the victim of the toxic relationship and especially knowing that some people in toxic relationships just pretend that their partner is perfect even though it's obvious that their partner is toxic, so the song is a success story of someone no longer falling for the tricks of both the partner and themselves and leaving the toxicity behind. "Any" I believe is about someone being unsure about their own happiness and not knowing what they truly want in life (something I can relate to a lot). I don't really understand how "Deep End" has that many red flags. I interpret the lyrics as the partner suddenly ghosting the singer without him knowing why and the singer falls into deep depression because of the break up to the point where he's losing the will to live because of how lonely he feels. Knowing how bad ghosting can affect people's mental health, I don't see how the singer is the red flag.
While I can watch this objectively and truly agree with you on each of these songs and their ratings... I almost lost my shit when you mentioned collision, but sat back down when you acknowledged it as one of the best tracks on 5-Star because I, too, am a collision defender. :))
Ex is one of my all times favorites. All the toxic and mean songs are bops, don't know why. Personally I have a healthy relationship and not that much drama in my life, but I love reading angst and tearjerkers. When I asked my husband why did he think I did that, he said that because I am an artist (I'm a designer and painter), I look for emotions, complex emotions and raw emotions I don't have in my regular life. It makes sense to me. And they are artists, so maybe it is the same.
Every now and then I remember that just because I don't memorize the translations of the lyrics doesn't mean there's not meaning to them. Honestly 5 flags on SKZ for making a lot for their biggest bops the biggest red flags too
i think the love thing is interesting because they have no issue talking about more complicated topics (e.g phobias) but also i think it important to consider they are only in their mid-twentys and spent most of their lives being idols, also a lot of people learn about relationships through out secondary school which they didnt attend.
Oh these boys know what they’re doing, Drama Adiction and delusional fantasy. From the play of Romeo and Juliet, not much is new under the sun. They play both sides of the team, the love triangle into Pythagoras theorem. They play hard to get but vulnerable and complex. They are all about the hook to get the fandom to follow. Parasocial interactions where it’s a one sided relationship the whole K-pop industry is based on it and it’s brain washing. Their songs have the ability to cult status of worship not asking the individual to love themselves but to abandon their own self respect and boundaries and give in to addiction in serotonin levels that their group provides with a tormented twist. Not noble emotions at all, transitional ones like jealousy that drives some unhinged behavior to do some of the nasty things that some have done recently in the Korean media to their beloved rivals group in defamation and slander even death threats. The modern world with all its flaws and information available is just as manipulative as it has been over time to the vulnerable. There’s being a teen and having fun going to concerts and loving music for the positive changes it has made to society. And there is being a slave to something that’s not healthy. Red Flags 🚩 🎉😢
As a changbin stan, I'm ashamed at how often my boy is at the epicenter of all these fuckboy anthems 😅😢 (except in Ex, bc it was Chan who wrote the worst lyrical offenders in that song 😂😂)
Songs like Ex and Red Lights make me wonder about Chan... like bro are you good 😭I know Red Lights was written about his relationship with his work rather than a person but that doesn't make it any better or worse
I'm pretty sure they spread awareness with their songs about topics people talk a lot about, don't talk a lot about, whatever situation that can hurt someone? If I'm wrong, please tell me, but that's what I thought their songs where about
dude, these are all on my favourite's list lol. but seriously, I almost never look up the meaning of the songs, so I'm here dancing and singing about what I think is spiders and it turns out the freaking song is about a toxic relationship! But I agree with your ranking, it's wild 😂
I LOVE IT! 😂😂😂😂 Im going to come back after showing this to my besties and do our ranking 😂😂😂 also im specially blind when it come to collision but you are right 😂😂😂 but hey i do wish next year you do another rank but WITH THE OTHER REPLAY SONGS there’s good material there!!!

😊
I beg everyone to watch the segment in the ATE intro where they discuss I Like It, because it was way too funny😂 (Jisung insisting that hes a good man and that he wasn't involved in the lyrics, Changbin saying that some people can relate followed by a hard cut of Jeongin saying he can't relate and them exposing the fandom for liking these type of love songs)

I don't know if you know the kdrana Nevertheless, but that song is basically the male lead description
@@wolfjooyeon Oh wait that makes total sense !! Can't believe I didn't see it before !!
The thing with I Like It is that it really depends on the individual's opinion. As long as the feeling of not wanting to commit is from both sides, there is nothing wrong with it. If the narrator however would try to gaslight and force the other person to not put a label on it, then it would be 5 flags FOR SURE. But in it itself no one can say the narrator is a bad person for not wanting to commit, as long as they're open and honest about it to their potential situationship iykwim
It is definitely a total vibe though, regardless of the lyrics, and one of my favourites from ATE
Feels a bit lonely
real
Okay but why would you ever get into a relationship knowing you dont want to be in it in the first place?? 😭😭
@elleumas it's not about being in a relationship. It's like... liking the idea of being in love but not love itself. Like you kick your feet at a fictional romance but the idea of being in a relationship yourself just feels wrong.
Same lol which is why sometimes I do be questioning why people call it a big red flag song, I am aroace so that might be one of the reason I don't see problem with it (since I never have a serious romantic feeling to someone)
Also because I have dated with someone I'm not "romantically" in love (.. more than once) because I thought it would be alright since I still like their companionship,, it's a wrong decision of mine which is why I felt the "I like it" song relatable.
@@ishasinha5360 but the song talks about not wanting to comitt to a relationship clearly?
Good points, but I think many of the things on this list don't actually blatantly state "relationship." I know Chan likes to have songs with themes about the creative workflow and "toxic" things that can happen within working too hard (Being addicted to an occupation you have and wanting to escape it).
agreed but i do think that nearly all those songs have a double meaning to them that can be taken as a relationship too, or maybe its just what comes out of personifying stressful work as a figure on its own. its very unique to skz imo bc of their themes
red lights comes to mind; some in the fandom were critical about fans interpreting it as a sexy song because the lyrics are apparently about this toxic phenomenon of working too hard- but i think thats kinda bs. i mean, i think there can be multiple angles of the song- they didnt have bondage and bedrooms and sultry looks in the music video for no reason, after all. its not just a sexy song or a toxic song or a song about working too hard- i think it can be all three at once based on the performance and interpretation
I do agree that a lot of these songs aren't about romance especially considering their SKZFLIX storyline and MVs
@@joannar2079 yep! There are double meanings! It’s a classic way to portray ideas in art.

Here's my unpopular opinion about I Like It:
While the narrator could be a player, he could also be someone who's been hurt in love before and doesn't want to get hurt again.
3. Truth is always too deep
Some lines that makes me think that it's not written by a player is: 1. Don't wanna end this game, hope it goes for **eternity**
2. Let's not go official, we can keep the **"you and me"**
Here it sounds like the narrator wants to be with this person forever and doesn't want anyone to come between them (aka they'll only like each other and none else). However they don't want to commit and deal with the burden and seriousness that comes with a serious relationship.
Is it a red flag? Yes. But is it a player's anthem? My answer would be no.
oooo
interesting interpretation on 'i like it' would have not thought about it like that
I see this perspective too. The narrator wants the honeymoon phase to last a little longer, enjoying things now and taking time instead of rushing into it. I think the message is straight forward and honest.
"i like it" was screaming red flag frfr🥲🥲🥲
The biggest issue for me is that all of these songs are so incredible and I can’t get enough of them. But that means that all of the flags have disappeared.
Don't worry. I'm right there with you.
Same here lmao😭😂
Since I know that they write their songs themselves am I judging their characters???.......No
As a songwriter myself I understand putting yourself in different experiences to tell a story.

I love how some one finally touched on this cause I been thinking about it A LOT and the rankings are so on point no argument !!!! thank youuu
this was a really funny video shhs. also ngl the toxicity somewhat makes the songs more relatable, it's what i like about music, you can express thoughts and feelings that you may have in a way that makes them into art. with the don't let me love you. it reminds me of myself quite a bit. that sort of low self-esteem turned into this sort of thorny shell that's like "don't come close or i'll hurt you and you'll regret it because i'm so much worse than you think" a bit like Elsa from frozen thinking she's worse than she really is, and it turns out her own self-loathing was the problem. but yeah, I've been in that mindset, of believing you're that bad, believing you're hurting those around you unintentionally, and it's not a good one to be in but it's kind of real?
you sort of had the interpretation of the song as in, this guy's blaming the other person for his toxic behaviour, which is true but i dont think that's the entire depth of the song tbh, like in a way yes, but also from the perspective of that person, you really think you're doing the other person a favour by warning them that you're just not as great as they see you, especially if we put it in the fan vs idol parasocial-ness of it all, some people see them as these guys that can do no wrong and stuff, and it's just like when someone has this idea of you as being better than you are, it's kind of uncomfortable? because you know you'll hurt them by disappointing them in the end, which is hard, so you try to break that illusion straight away like, don't love me because I'm actually a lot worse than i seem. like the lyrics " I know how this is going to end, ideals are an illusion, reality is cruel, there is no such thing as perfect" and the other person looking at him with "gentle eyes" that left him "scarred" as in like when faced with people who see you in such a positive way and not being able to handle it and deal with it, because you feel like you might not deserve it, or feel unable to accept someone's love in fear you'll hurt them and stuff like that. idk this is a waffle. anyway the song is cool, and kind of deep, that's what I like about it. Like the narrator may be in the wrong for trying to push the other person away but like it's an honest feeling.
Honestly, I felt I could understand dlmlu and thsi is exactly what I mean
This is a video i could imagine bangchan and hyunjin watching😊
It's way more interesting to me, being kind of bored of the topic... makes music more interesting to me‼️🙌
Same! Except, music is interesting to me anyway lol😅😆
I watched, I agreed... I opened a new tab and typed "stray kids ex"

Are the red flags basically you, saying you don't like the lyrics?🤔
@@aqua2767 I gave it 10 red flags for both of the people in the story - 5 flags each. Lauryn Hill's Ex-Factor has a similar story but not exact.
"A bit much for me" is just how I relate to the energy or vibe. I play all their songs at least 10 times when it first drops
So I listened before I read the lyrics, so IDK, it was just the energy
Miserable (You and Me) tells the story of a dysfunctional relationship
1 person wants to be with someone else, the protagonist doesn't want to let them go even though they know about it,
They have constant arguments about it, but for some reason they stay together.
*"Who's in your head right now, someone other than me"
"If I have to let go now, I'd rather be dead, baby
The pointless argument ends yet again with a goodbyе
If this is the last of us, I might just die"*
@@thesuperfe Ohh ok! Thank you! :)
You can also add here Miserable by Han. It's basically begging for his lover's love and attention even though he knows there's someone else on his lover's mind, and said that if it was his fault, his sorry and begs for a rewind in the relationship 😂 🚩but it's a banger though 😂
this is kind of an analysis i expect to see in this fandom,, ty for your hard work!!
I dont analyze all their lyrics, nor have i listened to all their songs, but seeing as its not their whole catalogue that's toxic and theres several songs that are genuine love songs (ie "I Like You", "Sorry, I like you", more i cant currently think of or hadn't heard yet)
Ps. None of this was written to take this video seriously, I'm just pointing out that - yes, some of these are in no doubt, no wiggle room, for being toxic (eg Venom), but some can easily be up for debate by perspective
Edit: The songs can also have double meanings, too. For example, personifying work - as we know how much they work, and even how addicted to it Chan is. That's the special thing about art and songs: double meanings, perspectives, and even hidden meanings that maybe we're not seeing.
Omg I love this...as a baby stay some of these songs I was like sir excuse me what...so glad I'm not the only one
I'm a new stay and the moment I heard and read the lyrics of 'I like it', I was like "This song is literally the Situationship anthem." and turns out that I'm not the only one XD but I can't deny the fact that the song is a bop and one of my fav track on the album.

Hoping to see more video-rankings like this ^^
As a strong love song hater I really love how SKZ approaches love ♥ I love intense songs and "good love" doesn't have any of that, I like heartbreak and toxic love in music haha the only one I dissagree with being on this list is Any, that song is about being young and people and society pressuring you to chose a path but you don't like that and want to make a decision on your own when you're ready, it says that is not that they hate everything, they're actually into a lot of things, but they're in that "what I want to do with my life?" moment
the aye domino was so random😭😭
I love this list 😂 I need the kids to watch this video and take responsibility of their lyrics. At this point I became to think they're too bad at love. But what a bop songs. I cannot stop singing I like it. It's my fav in the album 🙌🏻
i find that the songs written by Jisung and another member (i forgot 😖), are like “i would die for you”, and then songs written by Chan, Hyunjin, and Changbin are literally sex/situationships 💀 (love it tho, they get that life)
This whole video mostly made me realize that.....I interpret way more of their songs to be about friendship and falling out between friends than romantic partners lol
like there's some obvious romantic ones like On Track or Red Lights or Venom, but for me Any is about ambition not love and I've always interpreted I Hate to Admit (edit: and Deep End) as falling out with a friend
I thought I was the only one who saw songs in friendship mode 😭
as a long-time skz fan who didn't discover i was aromantic until i was 22 (literally this year) i can finally say i understand why i love skz's portrayal of love in their music. it sucks when you don't understand your feelings and you tear down the people around you, whether intentionally or not. i love that for skz, when they talk about it, romance isn't always sunshine and rainbows. it can be blatantly toxic but usually it's down to a narrator who can't figure out their feelings. it seems much closer to someone like me, whose idea of love has been so warped literally my entire life so far, can relate to. navigating romance is far from easy for everyone and it's hard to find good portrayals of that in music
part 2?? 😅 this was just so interesting to watch i’d genuinely watch a whole series on this 😭
this is the funniest fucking video I've ever watched thank you
I had no idea “any” or “venom” was a love song, I agree with most of the video and all, but I think they make theses songs cuz that’s how shit is in reality, especially with “I like it” that’s literally every relationship in the west these days, they make songs that describe society and how people be acting in relationships and especially the toxic ones.
its the way i keep staring at that chan fancam i can't
A lot of these songs have me going 'bestie ru good?!', unhealthy ahh relationships
I Like It, TASTE, Venom, but especially Red Lights and Deep End have been blasting on my stereos as my fav songs since always😍

I love the way you speak. I know that sounds weird but you are rlly good at narrating.
I`m glad youtube recommended this video to me. Such an interesting topic I`ve never thought about
Edit: What I`ve noticed is that i barely listen to most songs that are mentioned here because i don`t really like them or really vibe with them like for example Chill, Collision, Deep End, Don`t let me love you, B Me, I like it, Any or Happy.
Ngl for the most part I felt like it have several different interpretation, and most of the quote unquote "love" song doesn't seem to mean it's love for a person or human being ngl, it's more like a toxic feelings towards their job/work relationship (for songs like venom or even red light)
That's just my personal interpretation tho lol
I think I love red flags. I've never seen Deep End as a red flag song, but yeah, looking it back it's pretty toxic.
I loved this video, but since u aren't making a part 2, im kinda curious how many red flags you'd give to miserable you and me
Ooo same here !
i was wondering the same thing, also for 'untitled'
taste too
1000000 red flags
Ex is one of my all times favorites. All the toxic and mean songs are bops, don't know why.
Personally I have a healthy relationship and not that much drama in my life, but I love reading angst and tearjerkers. When I asked my husband why did he think I did that, he said that because I am an artist (I'm a designer and painter), I look for emotions, complex emotions and raw emotions I don't have in my regular life. It makes sense to me. And they are artists, so maybe it is the same.
Every now and then I remember that just because I don't memorize the translations of the lyrics doesn't mean there's not meaning to them. Honestly 5 flags on SKZ for making a lot for their biggest bops the biggest red flags too
Now I need the playlist
Thank you! Every time I listen to "I like it" I'm like "what the? This is toxic!"
i think the love thing is interesting because they have no issue talking about more complicated topics (e.g phobias) but also i think it important to consider they are only in their mid-twentys and spent most of their lives being idols, also a lot of people learn about relationships through out secondary school which they didnt attend.
Not me finding this the day after I hear Bang Chan's solo stage song... I think we might have another to add to the list.
omggg you're hilarious XD, loved your commentary and humor
Thank you, someone finally expressing this.
not me listening to every song then coming back to your video. i did not know some of these songs are about love!
If I'm wrong, please tell me, but that's what I thought their songs where about
yo this is fascinating! thanks for sharing your work with us!
Your script is amazing
i have never heard deep end before, i paused the video to give it a listen and jesus that was a mood killer omg
Collision is my favourite SKZ song
Currently rethinking everything.
I actually adore how you're so straightforward and actually tell just the truth
dude, these are all on my favourite's list lol. but seriously, I almost never look up the meaning of the songs, so I'm here dancing and singing about what I think is spiders and it turns out the freaking song is about a toxic relationship! But I agree with your ranking, it's wild 😂
I was waiting for you to rate" I like it " and I thought I was the only one who saw
I was just waiting for I like it
