Have the patient correct their posture "stand tall" and take a deep breath to relax and "reset", then weight shift and march or step big.

I see one person said to use a yo-yo. I use a walking stick and just put it out in front of me to kick the stick up. It is that kick movement that gets me going. Also stepping back and swinging into a BIG 1st step sometimes helps. I have troubles with stopping and then getting myself going again. Also, I have better luck moving outside than I do inside, since I guess our visual perception is affected by PD . Thank you for all your help! SKOL!!

Also look up neurological entrainment which music therapists do all of the time. We are specialists as well and. I miss my interaction with other therapists. Everyone has their own cadence and pace.

Another trick I've used is to try walking heal to toe or attempting to walk on a high wire. This seems to us a somewhat similar set of muscles and it works just to get started.

Great tips. The one I use to help my husband is telling him to imagine he goes down the steps and up the steps and it works well he starts walking. Going down stairs is a continuous and rhythmic movement. It works for us.

I would have liked a little explanation as to what is happening in the brain causing the freezing to occur, and the logic of how the suggestions you have made overcomes those deficits occurring in the brain.

PT student currently learning about Parkinson’s. It affects the basal ganglia which is responsible for automaticity of movement. So because the basal ganglia is affected, it affects motor planning and execution, muscle contractions, sequencing of movement, etc. By giving patients and external focus it helps them to overcome those deficits. I’m still learning too so I know this isn’t a perfect answer, but hopefully it’s somewhat helpful!

Yes...I usually select my right foot as the lead off foot. To get going, I reach down and pinch my jeans just above the knee. I then lift the knee just a little and that sends a signal to begin walking. Try it..good luck 😊

      HERE IS THE SOLUTION:
What is a commode used for?
A commode is a toilet with no plumbing. It can't be drained or flushed and must be emptied by hand. It also needs cleaning after each use. A bedside commode is kept near a bed for people with limited mobility.

My wheeled walker has a bungee cord between wheels nearest to me and when I strike it with my shins (I wear shorts) it helps me take a longer more normal step without shuffling.

What can you do when one leg locks up and you can’t move that leg whatsoever? I have to wait it out. Sometimes I’ve come close to falling down and that’s scary. I will be seeing a movement disorder neurologist about balance problems as well. You have a great channel guys.

I have been Diagnosed with FND I swear I have more Parkinson's symptoms verse FND symptoms but that's another story. I have sever gait and balance issues especially when I have been seated and standing and going to walk. I absolutely freeze in doorways or changes of any kind like walking down my hallway and into my kitchen thru all doors at home or in public oh my elevators are a challenge . I find that if i walk backward through doors its better but that's hard to do in public . With these gait disorders balance bradykinesia brain fog , slowness, rigidity ect. I also have loud outburst yells like tics that are accompanied with full body myoclonic jerks. I am wondering if there are any exercises I could do to stop the tics . It is so embarrassing in public , so I stay home and hermit as much as possible which is not good for mental health

    • @leemin7824
      @leemin7824 6 місяців тому

Sometimes my friend who has tics will have the tics stop by doing purposely movement like roll pen between finger or throw and catch a tennis ball. But in public, she just do some movement like open close hand, marching in sitting

Hi. Please, let us pray together. Dear God who art in heaven hallow be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever in Jesus Christ's name we pray amen.

I know a person with parkinson and the only way to get him movijg again was with a yoyo.
He would let it go down en he would have to kick it to get the walk cycle going.
Interesting cue. Visual and tactile cue .

You have to look at what good things you have in your life and focus on those things! Not the things you don’t have, or how bad you have it!!
Remember it could be a lot worse!!
Don’t give up! FIGHT with all you have! I have PD and fight it every day! I feel your pain, Just don’t let the Disease Win!
