If im not mistaken i think its roger waters.Gilmour played bass on that song and waters played rhythm guitar. But whoever it is totally agree. I fricken have always loved that outro.
The ending of The Who's "Won't Get Fooled Again." Moon's machine gun drum fills, Daltrey's epic scream, and the great last line of the song. Sheer perfection.
For me, it’s Vital Signs by Rush. Passionate vocals by Geddy, Neil’s fills are fantastic. A soundscape that you wish would never end. Great topic - Cheers!
UFO "Love to love" (especially live from Strangers in the night) outro solo is mind-blowing, completely changes the mood of the song, it screams desperation and then suddenly abruptly stops... Epic!
Pigs(Three different ones) 1977 - Pink Floyd The Gates of Delirium 1974 - Yes Cygnus X-1 Book one 1977 - Rush Purple Rain 1984 - Prince Cemetery Gates 1990 - Pantera Bold as Love 1967 - The Jimi Hendrix Experience Tunnel of Love 1980 - Dire Straits Astronomy (Some Enchanted Evening version) 1978 - Blue Oyster Cult
One of the first songs that came to mind. It’s crazy the successful heights that song ascends to and every one in the band plays an important role in doing so.
I’ll add that it’s not just a great song ending, but a stellar album ending. Especially considering the (albeit largely arbitrary) flow it has to Moonlit Knight on the next album.
The first 99% is Suppers Ready is wonderful, but the ending is terrible. Instead of actually having an ending it just fades away. Great music comes to a conclusion and stops.
Subdivisions is a perfect representation of growing up in Lower Sackville (a suburb of Halifax, Nova Scotia - on Canada's east coast) in the 1980s. Love every part of that song.
Baba O'Riley by the Who. The accelerating violin part by Dave Arbus is mind-blowing. And the accidental, wine-bottle-rattling-on-the-amplifier ending of Long, Long, Long from the White Album.
Jethro Tull : Baker St. Muse. ( Ian singing I'm just a Baker St. Muse while walking out and trying the door : I can't get out ! ) ELP : Keith's synthesiser at the end of Lucky Man ELP : Keith's synthesiser at the end of Karn Evil 9 Genesis : Firth of Fifth , Tony's reprise of the gorgeous piano intro Max Webster : Toronto Tontos : I have no fire on me , No Cigarettes , No Matches ! Be Bop Deluxe : Crying to the Sky , Bill Nelson's great guitar outro , and then the thunderstorm Led Zeppelin : Thank You , John Paul Jones' beautiful keyboard outro that fades out , and then comes in again
Rainbow "Sttargazer" "My eyes are bleeding........." Queen "Seven Seas Of Rhye" "I Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside....." Sgt. Pepper "A Day In The Life" Supertramp "Crime Of The Century" from when the piano kicks in to the fade out.
This is why I come back again and again to this channel, to learn new things and to hear the stories and very insighfull opinions of Pete and Martin. Nice one guys, I'm looking forward to the next one.
Thanks Pete and Martin love new shows!. I'm home for a few months after a stint in the hospital last week. As my health improves it's great to have SOT videos to watch!👍
Great idea and excellent video. As I always say, there is gold when Pete and Martin are together. I need to think about those endings that I make the song memorable for me.

Was thinking about that too, you could do a nice top 10 of Beatles songs with cool/original endings... Hi pete. I wrote a comment regarding this video on the acdc video sorry for that its friday and my mind is all over the place. But I am glad to be back commenting on your videos. Well done pete and martin. Martin seems like a very cool guy the way he describes and talks about music is very cool! Interesting guy
Very cool topic. 10 random fav endings: Queen - The Show Must Go On Kansas - Incomudro - Hymn to the Atman Emerson, Lake & Palmer - The Endless Enigma Tool - The Grudge The Smashing Pumpkins - Jellybelly Warren Zevon - Desperados Under the Eaves Seals & Crofts - Hummingbird Chicago - Fancy Colours (these guys have tons of cool endings) Oingo Boingo - Skin Jordan Rudess - Quantum Soup So many more...
My first five: *1)* - Al Stewart: Life in Dark Water (from Time Passages album) Last two things you hear are two sonar pings. *2)* - The Raspberries: Overnight Sensation (Hit Record) (from Starting Over) At the end we hear The Raspberries biggest hit *"Go All The Way"* as the song fade away. *3)* - Supertramp: Crime of the Century (from the Crime of the Century album) A five minute song but at the 2 minute mark, we hear a piano that plays the same notes over & over while other instruments plays. But we still hear these same notes until it fade. *4)* - Heart: Rockin' Heaven Down (from the Bébé le Strange album) The whole band rocks out after the 2:40 mark. Even vocalist Ann was using her voice as another instrument as they were rocking out. *5)* - Pink Floyd: Echoes (from the Meddle album) What else. The *ICONIC SONAR PINGS.*
Popoff and Pardo are at it again and now starting and the ending of songs. Already looking forward to Part 2 and some great choices by Martin and Pete in this episode. Some of my favorites are listed by other commenters so going to pick a few that might not ordinarily be on an SoT list along with some other favorites that may be repeaters.. Flood of Sunshine from the album Dear 23 by the Posies. Scorching guitar ended and 2 minutes left. A long slow fadeout to come? Not on your life. More scorching guitar to be followed by a quiet end that reflects the start of the song. A great song closer for an album closer as well. This Whole World from the Sunflower album by The Beach Boys. The a capella ending in the last 20+ seconds of the song shows the strength of this groups harmonizing even at this point in their career. Rough Boys from Pete Townsend's Empty Glass album. The song is frenetic from the beginning but the ending builds by adding horns and moving up the scale with Townsend's final shout out "I wanna see what I can find!" Layla by Derek and The Dominos. The mid-song switch to piano from the searing riff of the first half of the song appeals to the piano player in me. But it is not only that but also the last 10 to 15 seconds of the song and how softly and soulfully the song ends. Eclipse from Dark Side Of The Moon by Pink Floyd. The whole song is like a closing to me since it is the last song of the album but the ending with the heartbeats brings us back full circle to those that start this album. A Day In The Life by the Beatles. It was great to be 11 years old in the summer of 1967. So many great albums and so many new sounds. But the closing chord of this song and its album will forever remain one of the great closers of popular music. The sound winds up and you have not idea that this would wind up with such cacophonous beauty. Karn Evil No. 9, Part 2 from Emerson, Lake and Palmer's Brain Salad Surgery. What a great and symphonic like ending highlighting Emerson's keybords, Palmer's drums and Lake's fine voice telling us to see the show! Stopping there but thanks again to Martin and Pete for another entertaining show and special congratulations to Martin on his upcoming 100th episode of his podcast. Those are really enjoyable for listening as well. Thanks again, gents.
Great stuff! So many songs to pick from. Love that Martin's picks are not the most obvious whereas pete's picks are classic and timeless Here are some of mine Pink floyd-pigs (three different ones) Rush-necromancer Steven wilson-holy drinker Opeth-deliverance Megadeth-poison was the cure Cult of luna-following betulas Dream theater-a change of seasons Yes-gates of delirium King crimson-starless Al di meola-race with the devil on the Spanish highway
Epic song endings for me: King Crimson - Starless (from Red). King Crimson - Exiles (from USA). Yes - Perpetual Change (from Yessongs). All About Eve - Outshine The Sun (from Ultraviolet).
The end of Judas Priest's "Steeler" is awesome and pretty unique. "Combination" by Aerosmith springs to mind as well. Also Joe Satriani "Crystal Planet" and as a slight surprise The Eagles from their 1st album a song called Take The Devil...very heavy rock ending, shame it fades out so fast
Queen... Was it All Worth It Last song on what band thought at the time may be their last album. Tongue in cheek song filled with absolute Queen bombast... and Freddie at the end saying “Yes it was a Worthwhile Experience” with Brian dropping the hammer into the end of, again, what they likely thought would be their final track. Hugely under the radar and underrated song.
So many great endings. Here are 8 that I thought of: 1. Van Halen - Drop Dead Legs 2. Cheap Trick - Invaders of the Heart (their most underrated song EVER!!!))) 3. Dream Theater - Octavarium 4. The Beatles - A Day in the Life (I'm pretty sure this will be on part 2) 5. Rush - Witch Hunt 6. Prince - Let's Go Crazy 7. Iron Maiden - Hallowed be thy Name 8 Pink Floyd - Shine on You Crazy Diamond (Parts VI-IX) (the end of the album) Great episode guys! Can't wait for Part 2!
1. Opeth - Deliverance (The Riff!) 2. Iron Maiden - Hallowed be thy name 3. Dream Theater - Learning to Live 4. Genesis - The Musical Box (Why don't you touch me, touch me!) 5. Pink Floyd - Eclipse 6. Metallica - Fade to black 7. Blind Guardian - And the there was silence 8. King Crimson - Starless 9. Marillion - Fugazi 10. Derek and the Dominoes - Layla (long version)
1. Brain Damage/Eclipse 2. Shine on You Crazy Diamond (Parts 6-9) 3. Supper's Ready 4. Rime of the Ancient Mariner 5. Stargazer 6. Invisible Touch 7. Life's Been Good 8. Jeremy
Overkill- Motörhead Literally just the last like 3 minutes with all the fake outs and the ripping solos. Also, I’d like to mention Breathe Reprise at the end of Time and Black Diamond by Kiss.
I always liked the funky ending to Love is Like Oxygen by Sweet. Also Twilight Zone by Golden Earring, The Musical Box by Genesis, Lucky Man by ELP, The Steve Lukather solo on Running with the Night by Lionel Richie, Magic Key by Rare Earth, The Raven by Alan Parsons Project and Can You Hear Me Knocking? By the Stones
Havent watched this yet, but some of my favorites, in no particular order, would be: A Sorcerer's Pledge - Candlemass Hangar 18 - Megadeth Stargazer - Rainbow Keeper of the Seven keys- Helloween The Ballad of William Kid - Running Wild
Dream Theater - Learning to Live: majestic ending to my favorite DT song. Love JP's harmonic riff, very unique in their discography. Pat Metheny Group - The Way Up Part 4: I love how the previous themes interweave and build up to the beautiful ending, gives me chills every time. Bruce Springsteen - Jungleland: hauntingly beautiful, Bruce's impassioned vocals combined with the great piano and chord changes. Gives me goosebumps just thinking about it! Cynic - How Could I: great solo from Jason Gobel to cap off one of the greatest and most influential metal albums ever. Nevermore - This Godless Endeavor: "the sky has opened", one of the best metal songs and outros ever. Sanctuary - Future Tense: the whole song is great, but the thrashy outro puts it over the top. Decapitated - Organic Hallucinosis: I could listen to that pummeling riff forever.
awesome Pete!! was totally stoked that you mentioned Marching Out, i remember when i first heard that solo i was blown away , right after the really short acoustic lead in his harmonics and bends and maybe some echo used as well for that first bar always struck me as sounding a little like whales singing as corny as that may come off from me saying. i remember pointing that out to some friends that play and they got it and understood what i meant. i was like, how in the fuck is he getting that sound/effect? and then the rest of the track ,and the fade out as you mentioned, what the hell else could a person say? just a total unique kick ass solo!! Eruption was the solo for me until i heard Marching Out for the first time but to this day it stands neck to neck with Eruption-for me. and on any given day it may just be my favorite solo.
Great topic! Just off the top: Pat Travers- Snortin’ Whiskey Black Sabbath- Under the Sun/Every Day Comes and Goes Van Halen- Beautiful Girls EL&P- Karn Evil 9 First Impression(parts 1&2) Iron Maiden- Powerslave Dio- Like the Beat of a Heart
Ten great endings *Peter Gabriel* - 'The Rhythm of the Heat' A furious cavalcade of African drums leading to a dramatic finale. *The Rolling Stones* - 'Brown Sugar' Literally my favourite bit of the song is the final drum roll and Keith's shouting "Yeah!" *Led Zeppelin* - 'Hots on for Nowhere' Page breaks out of the junkie rockabilly body of the song into a kind of riff-cum-solo which climaxes with one incredible tight chord which has the most extraordinary sound. *Pete Townshend* - 'Gonna Get Ya' Closing track on his 'Empty Glass' LP, it builds and builds to a frenetic finish. *Free* - 'My Brother Jake' The song swings along mightily before the instruments drop out and Paul Rodgers delivers one of his all time great vocal lines - 'You've got what it takes, to give a whole lotta people some souuuul!' *Pink Floyd* - 'Sheep' Gilmour's climactic chiming descending guitar riff after 'Keep out of the road if you want to grow old'. Amazing. *Supertramp* - 'Child of Vision' One of the gems on the album, John Anthony Helliwell plays a superb sax solo at the end and adds this wonderful squawk just as the fade out starts. *The Undertones* - 'Teenage Kicks' One of the greatest records ever made - it needed a great ending and it got one with its succinct turnaround of the main riff. *Wings* - 'With a Little Luck' McCartney sings 'Don't you feel the comet exploding' over a synth line and it finishes with a stab of Fender Rhodes organ. Perfect. *R.E.M.*- 'Finest Worksong' Mike Mills plays a slap bass riff which leads to a final descending echoed guitar chord from Peter Buck.
Steve Lukather’s epic outro solo on Lionel Ritchie’s “Running with the Night”. If you don’t think Luke can shred with the best of them, listen to the last 2 minutes of that song.
Rush - Xanadu Rush - Kid Gloves Van Halen - Hot For Teacher Van Halen - Everybody Wants Some Van Halen - Good Enough I actually think VH had the greatest endings in songs IMO
Agree with a few of your picks for sure. Five staples for me that come to mind are: One - Metallica Epic - Faith No More Limelight - Rush Starless - King Crimson A Day in the Life - Beatles
"Don't make it my dying dying..." *cough* "...cough!" Zep ending for In My Time Of Dying. The guitar riff at the end of Niel Young's Cinnamon Girl. The door slam at the end of Yes: "We Have Heaven." "I've got blisters on my fingers!" Helter Skelter. Beatles.
Behind the Wall of Sleep - Black Sabbath Whole Lotta Rosie - AC/DC Princess of the Dawn - Accept Learning to Live - DT Archaic Rage - Evergrey Diary of a Madman - Ozzy Eyes of a Stranger (from Operation Live crime) Lament - Riverside The Lonliest Place in the World - Ten Arena - The Visitor
Quite difficult but here’s a few. Opeth-deliverance Opeth-burden Genesis- supper’s ready Queen- Bohemian Rhapsody Led Zep - stairway to villagers villagers. - I saw the dead. Possibly one of the creepiest endings ever. Gives me shivers down my spine. That’s all I can think of at the moment.
While I'm not a big Alice Cooper fan I really love the ending section of "Killer". Another great ending is YES' "Ritual" - the dynamic build up is incredible.
Ok Pete, when ARE you going to give Mike Oldfield a show? Good choices you and Martin served up for us this time, here are some of mine: Close to the Edge (Yessongs version) - Yes. Frantic riffing and keyboards meld into a beautiful finale. Soon (Yesshows version) - Yes. Jon Anderson's finest moment IMO. Starless - King Crimson. John Wetton just crushes this with his bass tone. Door of Illusion (Tales of the Unexpected) - Mahogany Rush. SG heaven. 7 Screaming Diz Busters (Live in the West 1975 version) - BOC. Amazing extended soloing then the maniacal 'the jokes on you .....'
The last 3+ minutes of Wheels of Confusion from Sabbath Vol. 4 always does it for me. Excellent guitar build up from Iommi and Bill Ward pounding the crap out of the skins. Outstanding.
1) Derek & Dominoes - "Layla" 2) Led Zeppelin - "Ten Years Gone" 3) The Rolling Stones - "Waiting On A Friend" 4) Pink Floyd - "Time" 5) Jimi Hendrix Experience - "Bold As Love" 6) The Who - "Love Reign O'er Me" 7) The Moody Blues - Nights In White Satin 8) The Stooges - "Funhouse" 9) Black Sabbath - "Hole In The Sky" 10) The Beatles - "A Day In The Life"
First few to come to mind - ELP Knife Edge - the first time I ever played it I thought my record player was malfunctioning - and then the explosion at the end of the Tree Fates that sets up Tank. And not forgetting the ending to KarnEvil 9 3rd Impression - great on headphones Barclay James Harvest - Suicide? where they miked up a dummy and threw it off a roof to replicate the sound of someone jumping off a building. Chris Squire - Safe (Canon Song) after he builds and builds to a climax theres that gentle almost ambient wash of sound, which provides a sort of breathe out and relax moment - Jon Anderson did a similar type of thing, albeit for a bit longer at the very end of Olias.
Motorhead's "Stone Deaf in the USA" ends with a spoken word "Blessing" featuring the voice of Michael Palin. it is a mock prayer to endow each member of the band with enough wealth so they can each afford one more pair of pants. an ending technique that I've taken to heart when mixing my own band is the Beatles song "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" which ends with a giant crescendo of guitar and synth noise and then an abrupt silence-as if the tape ran out. I love that effect!
Starless - King Crimson
I mean it's a perfect ending of a song, a perfect ending of an album and a perfect ending of an era...
The last 3 Minutes of Stargarzer are absolutely amazing!! And Alice Cooper " Hello Hooray" the I feel so strong part at the end. Breathtaking!!
Pink Floyd Sheep. I was 14 when it first came out and the closing Gilmour guitar riff still gives me goose bumps.
Awesome riff
Absolutely agree. Listening to it from original release back in the day, 40+ years, and hits me every time.
Yes. Also Love Reign O'err Me
For me, it’s Vital Signs by Rush. Passionate vocals by Geddy, Neil’s fills are fantastic. A soundscape that you wish would never end. Great topic - Cheers!
Agreed
UFO "Love to love" (especially live from Strangers in the night) outro solo is mind-blowing, completely changes the mood of the song, it screams desperation and then suddenly abruptly stops... Epic!
UFO- Profession of Violence has a lengthy, emotional solo by Tonka Chapman that lasts 2 minutes...one of his best.
Pigs(Three different ones) 1977 - Pink Floyd
The Gates of Delirium 1974 - Yes
Cygnus X-1 Book one 1977 - Rush
Purple Rain 1984 - Prince
Cemetery Gates 1990 - Pantera

Tunnel of Love 1980 - Dire Straits
Astronomy (Some Enchanted Evening version) 1978 - Blue Oyster Cult
Gates has the best ending of all time IMO
The end of Suppers Ready by Genesis is an emotional ride.
I was looking for this comment
"To the New Jerusalem". Gives me goosebumps listening to that, good call.
It’s an incredible song from start to finish.
so so true
Baba O'Riley by the Who. The accelerating violin part by Dave Arbus is mind-blowing. And the accidental, wine-bottle-rattling-on-the-amplifier ending of Long, Long, Long from the White Album.

The ending of Rush's YYZ is brilliant. Gets me every time.
That was my first thought, as well.
This is why I come back again and again to this channel, to learn new things and to hear the stories and very insighfull opinions of Pete and Martin. Nice one guys, I'm looking forward to the next one.
Purple Rain; the lengthy ending that radio stations NEVER play...
Every time Purple Rain plays on the radio at work I complain to my coworkers about them cutting it off. It really bugs me...
Hands down Rainbow Stargazer , best ending in the history of rock
Totally its perfection.
Agreed!
You're not wrong 🌈✊
Best one yet fellas. You guys together are The A Team.

This is my favorite show because over here it's 5pm now so it perfectly inaugurates my weekend :)
1st song that comes to mind is OPETH - DELIVERANCE, one of the most incredible ending of a song ever
That song and specifically that ending on their live DVD - I think it was 'Lamentations' - was what got me into Opeth. Blew me away.
Play loud with much air drumming, to boot.

Thanks for making the statement complete and better.
Beatles have so many: I Want You (She's so Heavy), Strawberry Fields, Helter Skelter and of course a Day in the Life. (an episode in itself)
Was thinking about that too, you could do a nice top 10 of Beatles songs with cool/original endings...
The Revolver album especially has so many songs with interesting endings; also false endings in I'm Only Sleeping. Good Day Sunshine being possibly my favorite, with only the voices at the end remaining for a short while and then And Your Bird Can Sing comes crashing in.
The scary ending of Long Long Long is also very unique and memorable.
King Crimson's Starless. I can't think of an ending that hit me on such an emotional level like that. Still get goosebumps about it.
One that came to my mind right away.

Hi pete. I wrote a comment regarding this video on the acdc video sorry for that its friday and my mind is all over the place. But I am glad to be back commenting on your videos. Well done pete and martin. Martin seems like a very cool guy the way he describes and talks about music is very cool! Interesting guy
The Stranglers ‘No More Heroes’
Such a dramatic build-up towards the end but as a bonus it also has a great intro!
Thank you Thank you Martin, I love the ending of Stone Blue so much! It is so good and makes that song such a kick ass rocker!
The great Rod Price on slide guitar at the end of Stone Blue. One of the unsung heroes of the electric guitar.
Good one there👍
Very cool topic. 10 random fav endings:
Queen - The Show Must Go On
Kansas - Incomudro - Hymn to the Atman
Emerson, Lake & Palmer - The Endless Enigma
Tool - The Grudge
The Smashing Pumpkins - Jellybelly
Warren Zevon - Desperados Under the Eaves
Seals & Crofts - Hummingbird
Chicago - Fancy Colours (these guys have tons of cool endings)
Oingo Boingo - Skin
Jordan Rudess - Quantum Soup
So many more...
Love the Kansas reference. Might possibly be my favorite song by them
@@pauladams9287 I've always had a hard time with picking a fav Kansas song. But Incomudro is certainly in my Top 10.
My first five:
*1)* - Al Stewart: Life in Dark Water (from Time Passages album) Last two things you hear are two sonar pings.
Octavarium-Dream Theater
The perfect ending to a prog masterpiece.🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
The song is frenetic from the beginning but the ending builds by adding horns and moving up the scale with Townsend's final shout out "I wanna see what I can find!"
Layla by Derek and The Dominos.
Muffin Man is one of the greatest riffs of all time.
Rush , Cygnus X-1. What a killer conclusion
Book 1 or Book 2?
@@MBF78 Book one. , though book 2 has a very nice coda
Black Sabbath- Wheels of Confusion quickly comes to my mind..just mind blowing!
Grand Funk's All You've Got Is Money is another one for me
Great stuff! So many songs to pick from. Love that Martin's picks are not the most obvious whereas pete's picks are classic and timeless
Here are some of mine
Pink floyd-pigs (three different ones)
Rush-necromancer
Steven wilson-holy drinker
Opeth-deliverance
Megadeth-poison was the cure
Cult of luna-following betulas
Dream theater-a change of seasons
Yes-gates of delirium
King crimson-starless
Al di meola-race with the devil on the Spanish highway
Epic song endings for me:
King Crimson - Starless (from Red).
King Crimson - Exiles (from USA).
Yes - Perpetual Change (from Yessongs).
All About Eve - Outshine The Sun (from Ultraviolet).
UFO - Love to Love
Ozzy - Diary of a Madman
Gotta be King's X "We Were Born to be Loved" for me. Ty and Jerry were just having too much fun to let it end.
Nice one!
Steeler great choise!
Steeler =Perfect!!
@@zachary1966 one my all time fave priest songs
Opeth-Deliverence..Hands down the greatest ending ever. It’s over 5 minutes long but it truly is an ending not to be believed.
Queen... Was it All Worth It
Last song on what band thought at the time may be their last album.
Tongue in cheek song filled with absolute Queen bombast... and Freddie at the end saying “Yes it was a Worthwhile Experience” with Brian dropping the hammer into the end of, again, what they likely thought would be their final track.
Hugely under the radar and underrated song.
Love the Stone Blue shout out, I have always thought the same.
So many great endings. Here are 8 that I thought of:
1. Van Halen - Drop Dead Legs
2. Cheap Trick - Invaders of the Heart (their most underrated song EVER!!!)))
3. Dream Theater - Octavarium
4. The Beatles - A Day in the Life (I'm pretty sure this will be on part 2)
5. Rush - Witch Hunt
6. Prince - Let's Go Crazy
7. Iron Maiden - Hallowed be thy Name
8 Pink Floyd - Shine on You Crazy Diamond (Parts VI-IX) (the end of the album)

3. Supper's Ready
4. Rime of the Ancient Mariner
5. Stargazer
6. Invisible Touch
7. Life's Been Good
8. Jeremy
I know this isn't a popular band on this channel, but I LOVE the end of GNR's Rocket Queen!
That is a fantastic ending. Love the whole song.
It's their best song if you ask me
Yeah, Stargazer is the very first thing that came to my mind.
Overkill- Motörhead
Literally just the last like 3 minutes with all the fake outs and the ripping solos.
Sweet - great choice. Love the mellow middle section, too.
Havent watched this yet, but some of my favorites, in no particular order, would be:
A Sorcerer's Pledge - Candlemass
Hangar 18 - Megadeth
Stargazer - Rainbow
Keeper of the Seven keys- Helloween
The Ballad of William Kid - Running Wild
Can't wait for part 2!
Ozzy/Randy- Tonight. Incredible outro from RR.
Definitely my favorite Ozzy song, so melancholic,. Definitely a deep cut in my eyes.
Pete, totally agree on Stargazer ending and Muffin Man from Bongo Fury!
"Nights in White Satin" by The Moody Blues is eaily one of the best endings of any rock song.
It is cool.
awesome Pete!! was totally stoked that you mentioned Marching Out, i remember when i first heard that solo i was blown away , right after the really short acoustic lead in his harmonics and bends and maybe some echo used as well for that first bar always struck me as sounding a little like whales singing as corny as that may come off from me saying. i remember pointing that out to some friends that play and they got it and understood what i meant. i was like, how in the fuck is he getting that sound/effect? and then the rest of the track ,and the fade out as you mentioned, what the hell else could a person say? just a total unique kick ass solo!! Eruption was the solo for me until i heard Marching Out for the first time but to this day it stands neck to neck with Eruption-for me. and on any given day it may just be my favorite solo.
Great topic!
Just off the top:
Pat Travers- Snortin’ Whiskey
Black Sabbath- Under the Sun/Every Day Comes and Goes
Van Halen- Beautiful Girls
EL&P- Karn Evil 9 First Impression(parts 1&2)
Iron Maiden- Powerslave
Dio- Like the Beat of a Heart
Awesome show something discovered as always thank you guys
Ten great endings
*Peter Gabriel* - 'The Rhythm of the Heat'
A furious cavalcade of African drums leading to a dramatic finale.
*The Rolling Stones* - 'Brown Sugar'
Literally my favourite bit of the song is the final drum roll and Keith's shouting "Yeah!"
*Led Zeppelin* - 'Hots on for Nowhere'
Page breaks out of the junkie rockabilly body of the song into a kind of riff-cum-solo which climaxes with one incredible tight chord which has the most extraordinary sound.
*Pete Townshend* - 'Gonna Get Ya'
Closing track on his 'Empty Glass' LP, it builds and builds to a frenetic finish.
*Free* - 'My Brother Jake'
The song swings along mightily before the instruments drop out and Paul Rodgers delivers one of his all time great vocal lines - 'You've got what it takes, to give a whole lotta people some souuuul!'
*Pink Floyd* - 'Sheep'
Gilmour's climactic chiming descending guitar riff after 'Keep out of the road if you want to grow old'. Amazing.
*Supertramp* - 'Child of Vision'
One of the gems on the album, John Anthony Helliwell plays a superb sax solo at the end and adds this wonderful squawk just as the fade out starts.
*The Undertones* - 'Teenage Kicks'
One of the greatest records ever made - it needed a great ending and it got one with its succinct turnaround of the main riff.
*Wings* - 'With a Little Luck'
McCartney sings 'Don't you feel the comet exploding' over a synth line and it finishes with a stab of Fender Rhodes organ. Perfect.
*R.E.M.*- 'Finest Worksong'
Mike Mills plays a slap bass riff which leads to a final descending echoed guitar chord from Peter Buck.
Like your with a little luck choice
Steve Lukather’s epic outro solo on Lionel Ritchie’s “Running with the Night”. If you don’t think Luke can shred with the best of them, listen to the last 2 minutes of that song.
Right on...to think that you could find a shredding guitar solo on a pop/rock song is mind blowing, 1983...those were the days.
Jimmy Page's delicate acoustic guitar at the end of Led Zep's Tangerine gets me every time. It's only about 10 seconds long but it's sublime.
Agree completely
@@hughjass7025 It's such a brief 'blink and you'll miss it' moment, I think most people overlook it.
Mahogany Rush - Child of a Novelty
Black Sabbath - Into the Void
Grand Funk - Loneliness
Into the Void final riff is the best ending ever!
Ozzy - Tonight. Randy's outro solo is EPIC!!! I always keep turning it up to hear more of the solo. Then SATO kicks in and blows out my ears.
Rush - Xanadu
Rush - Kid Gloves
Van Halen - Hot For Teacher
Van Halen - Everybody Wants Some
Van Halen - Good Enough
I actually think VH had the greatest endings in songs IMO
"In a Simple Rhyme" into "Growth" always leaves me wanting more
VH had heaps
"Faith", last track on side 1 off "Visions Of The Emerald Beyond" from The Mahavishnu Orchestra, the ending leaves you breathless!
Agree with a few of your picks for sure. Five staples for me that come to mind are:
One - Metallica
Epic - Faith No More
Limelight - Rush
Starless - King Crimson
A Day in the Life - Beatles
"Don't make it my dying dying..." *cough* "...cough!" Zep ending for In My Time Of Dying. The guitar riff at the end of Niel Young's Cinnamon Girl. The door slam at the end of Yes: "We Have Heaven." "I've got blisters on my fingers!" Helter Skelter. Beatles.
Behind the Wall of Sleep - Black Sabbath
Whole Lotta Rosie - AC/DC
Princess of the Dawn - Accept
Learning to Live - DT
Archaic Rage - Evergrey
Diary of a Madman - Ozzy
Eyes of a Stranger (from Operation Live crime)
Lament - Riverside
The Lonliest Place in the World - Ten
Arena - The Visitor
Accept - Princess of the Dawn
Blind Guardian - A dark Passage
Metallica - One
Metallica - The Call of Ktulu
Michael Schenker Group - Into the Arena
Quite difficult but here’s a few.
Opeth-deliverance
Opeth-burden
Genesis- supper’s ready
Queen- Bohemian Rhapsody
Led Zep - stairway to villagers
villagers.
I love that piano part at the end of Killer, then the door slams and al of a sudden you hear the bees buzzing.
Man, the end of Killer. Totally.
Ok Pete, when ARE you going to give Mike Oldfield a show? Good choices you and Martin served up for us this time, here are some of mine:
Close to the Edge (Yessongs version) - Yes.
1) Derek & Dominoes - "Layla"
2) Led Zeppelin - "Ten Years Gone"
3) The Rolling Stones - "Waiting On A Friend"
4) Pink Floyd - "Time"
5) Jimi Hendrix Experience - "Bold As Love"
6) The Who - "Love Reign O'er Me"
7) The Moody Blues - Nights In White Satin
8) The Stooges - "Funhouse"
9) Black Sabbath - "Hole In The Sky"
10) The Beatles - "A Day In The Life"
The Who - “Love Reign O’er Me”,
Genesis - “Supper’s Ready”
Yes - “Awaken”
Bauhaus - “Double Dare”
What about The Gates of Delirium by YES?!?!😇 that song always gives me chills in that last section
Overkill and Freebird. One keeps tricking you into thinking it’s the end and the other you just don’t want to end🤘🏻
Ozzy Osborne-Mr. Crowley is an epic Randy Roads solo.
First few to come to mind -
ELP Knife Edge - the first time I ever played it I thought my record player was malfunctioning - and then the explosion at the end of the Tree Fates that sets up Tank. And not forgetting the ending to KarnEvil 9 3rd Impression - great on headphones
Barclay James Harvest - Suicide? where they miked up a dummy and threw it off a roof to replicate the sound of someone jumping off a building.
