    By "writing most of the songs" I suppose he means he came up with most of the music (riffs). According to the official story he spoke next to no English when he joined UFO. Obviously Phil Mogg wrote all the lyrics (with a few exceptions of course).
    By the way I really liked Schenker's vintage guitar sound back in the 70s much more than his current sound. But that's just nostalgic me.
    Thanks for the video SoT. Cheers.

    There's a mention of Michael playing w/Aerosmith in their autobiography. They suggested he came in & wanted to "take over the band" in their words.

      The reason Perry & Whitford left Aerosmith & Crespo & Dufay Aerosmith fell apart was Tyler's addiction. Schenker would've found out the same way those guys did that Tyler was only fully committed to drugs & it was excruciatingly frustrating for those who counted on him to help with the band.

    Stop with the comparisons. Schenker is not attempting to better the originals. Keeping these great songs alive in 2024 is the point of this release. Appreciate this recording for what it is, not for what it is not. Keep the Flame burning Michael❤‍🔥

    Great album, but I disagree with Pete. I am surprised to say this, but I think that this is the best performance I have heard by Axl Rose, and I don't like him! Also Jason Scott Soto does not work for me on Lights Out. To sum up, a great album by the Guitar meister himself.

    To be exact, all the songs in "Lonesome Crow" are credited to all the band members, so typically (and admittedly) Michael DID contribute to ALL the songs there. With his statement that he "wrote most of the songs" surely he doesn't mean that he wrote them all my himself ! Actually, in many cases he claimed that he wrote most songs with Klaus Meine (as he later did with Phil Mogg). As for the "official" credit to all the band members, it is common knowledge that this can be an executive decision (aiming to attribute equal shares of the income and rights) and almost never reflects the reality of who DID write the songs. So, it is very possible that Michael's statement is very correct.
    For "Phenomenon", Michael DID write almost all the songs (NOT entirely by himself, of course, except for the instumental), except for "Too Young To No" and the cover of "Built For Comfort".
    For "Force It" : All songs except two ("Out In The Street" and "Too Much Of Nothing")
    For "No Heavy Petting" : Wrote 5 out of 9 songs - not credited on the 3 Peyronel songs and the Frankie Miller cover
    For "Lights Out" : Wrote 5 out of 8 songs - not credited on "Too Hot To Handle", "Just Another Suicide" (initially credited to Mogg for contractual reasons, as it was written by Paul Raymond) and the Love cover
    For "Obsession" : Wrote 6 out of 11 tracks.
    In view of all the above, his statement that he wrote (meaning at least co-wrote!) MOST of the songs on those albums is very correct and not at all "overstretched" !
    Even if his various statements, in interviews etc, may sound (or actually be) exaggerated (even though I don't remember him saying that UFO "stole" any of his songs - he only says that for his brother, not even Klaus), that particular statement is valid.
    P.S. I was a fan of Guns'n'Roses from the beginning until their breakup in the early '90s. I have my opinion on Axl Rose (saw him live in their peak, in 1993). When the version of Love To Love got out on UA-cam, I checked it out. As soon as Axl started "singing", I stopped the video - I don't think I endured more than 5 seconds ... What a sacrilege ! (Love To Love is surely one of my favorite songs of all time)

    • @timguzz8844
      @timguzz8844 2 місяці тому

      Not that he sounds great anymore, anyway and while not close to original, I thought at least Axl made a concerted effort not to sing like his usual self or shud I say not to scream

  • @terrydaktyllus1320
    @terrydaktyllus1320 2 місяці тому +3

    I will probably buy it as I do everything related to UFO and Michael Schenker.
    I am disappointed with the track listing as it just seems very "low effort", with just 10 tracks anyway. There is no way a true UFO fan is going to prefer these cover versions over the definitive versions on the original UFO studio albums or the live versions on "Strangers In The Night".
    It is just an album of covers of "The Best Of Strangers In The Night" anyway of which we already have many versions - what would have been a lot more interesting would have been for Michael to take some of the "deep cuts" from the albums from "Phenomenon" to "Obsession" and do some slightly different versions of those:
    Space Child & Too Young To No (from Phenomenon)
    Love Lost Love & Dance Your Life Away (from Force It)
    Can You Roll Her & Highway Lady (from No Heavy Petting)
    Gettin' Ready & Electric Phase (from Lights Out)
    Pack It Up And Go & You Don't Fool Me (from Obsession)
    But, as I said at the beginning, I will end up buying it anyway.

    Unfortunately this review is a bit half assed, Axl did a great job on the track, some weird things going on with his voice at parts but his interpretation of the song really blended well, it’s the highlight of the album to me, Schenkers outro solo also meanwhile you’re saying Biff did a good job on this Kids, Saxon are great, have seen them live recently but he ruins this song. Unfortunately I do think older rock fans are very set in their ways and conservative musically so if it’s not what you’re expecting it’s not good. Jeff Scott soto with an uninspired Karaoke interpretation. Only you can rock me was a poor vocal also. A great version of rock bottom, a great alternative and nice vocal for a hard song to do justice

  • @shiningphantasy1393
    @shiningphantasy1393 2 місяці тому

    Really this album just seems like an experiment and none of these re-recordings measure up to the original studio tracks. Kai Hansen and Axl Rose are not well-suited for the two songs that they did the vocals on and overall while there are a few guys contributing that I think highly of (such as Joel Hoesktra) this album is just kind of lifeless, lacks chemistry, and is less than the sum of its' parts. Love to Love is probably my favorite ballad (out of hundreds within my collection) and this is the worst version that I have ever heard, not just because of Axl, but the atmosphere is not there and the solo at the end by Michael is flat out lackluster and meandering. What a disappointment compared to the original or his better live renditions. I have over 50 of Michael's albums and I give myself any reason to purchase his musical output, but I wouldn't pay good money for this. Maybe a digital copy for five bucks or less strictly for completion purposes, but it's a case of listening to it once and shelving it pretty much. Better luck with new songwriting if he chooses to pursue that in the future.

    I’m glad Pete read all this stuff from the inner sleeve encourages me not to buy the CD. I don’t have any respect for this man because the way he criticizes his brother in the media. He was good in UFO and with the scorpions he hasn’t done anything really that interesting of late.

    • @Hentarded
      @Hentarded 2 місяці тому +1

      With respect to Rudolf, Michael has been really critical and rude, but it's not unjustified. It does feel like Scorpions don't give Michael enough credit for his contributions to Lovedrive and the fact is he feels his own brother used him. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle, but it still doesn't feel like Rudolf is entirely innocent.
      Michael only recently realised how badly the music industry treated him (not paid for live shows, his agent running off with his savings, no credit for his level of influence, song writing credit), and he feels his brother was part of that.
