  • Hi all friends✋Today we're making a camping knife forged from an old bearing. The bearing we just picked from the junk🐰🐰🐰We saw many good blacksmiths made the knife from this stuff, it's very interesting🐶🐶🐶So we wanted to try too.💪We've spent around 4 hours to complete the work. That's a good steel and cheap one, easy to find for practicing.🐠🐠🐠This knife is good enough for cutting and easy to bring along for camping.

    Is there a reason this was hardened with water and not oil. I seen this a few times before. Is it the steel or just the same outcome with a different method? Really cool knife. I like the handle. It makes it look really rustic and old school. 👌👍

      Dear Sir, the bearing's one of the good steel to make knife. We've tested some already. But it's also depend on how much the hardening skill with water or oil we have. Thank you very much Sir, cheers and stay safe !

      @@powerhandforces you definitely have the skill. New sub sir. Do you ever make smaller knives like little EDC or like straight razors. Those would be awesome. Rebar straight razor just sounds cool. 👍👍👌👌 Thank you for the reply.

    Hello sir, which is better for making a knife? Bearing or leaf spring? Which is a better material?

    • @wyrdo1501
      @wyrdo1501 2 роки тому

      bearings, are 52100 steel, very good stuff for making knives. leafsprings are usually 5160, also good for knives.
      the 52100 will hold an edge a bit longer but the 5160 will be a bit tougher under heavy duty use. you can always sharpen a dull knife but welding one back together is a different story. so it depends on what you are using the knife for but i wouldnt be afraid of either. they will both make a really good knife. will both also benefit from being forged to shape to get the grain of the metal flowing with the design then finished on the grinder. i have heard some leaf springs are not 5160 and so people look down on using them, but i have never had a problem making a good knife from any of the spring material i have found. would make sure you look into the ins and outs of basic heat treating. thats what is going to determine the character of a knife the most in my opinion.

      We need Sir, but we haven't got enough tools, so we still using the tradition style to make the knife. Thank you.
