some where a "forged in fire" judge/fan has just had a stroke, "QUENCHING HIGH CARBON STEEL IN WATER, THAT BLADE IS DESTROYED" ya no, water works just dandy if you don't overheat the steel in the first place there dudes, Nice work by the way, dudes an artist with that angle grinder.
you can search some knife tests across this channel. Quenching in water is not bad. thanks for your comment.

you'll get more uses out of the cutoff wheel if you anneal the steel before cutting.
do you normalize the steel after forging? it will likely have fine grain already but with high carbon steels like this there are some other things to consider like grain boundary carbides.
we do anneal the steel but other things, sorry, we don't know a lot about it. Thanks for your great idea

@@D33Lux normalizing is the process of recrystalizing austenite grains to equalize their size. it also dissolves carbides that form at the grain boundaries in certain temperature ranges, especially in high carbon (>0.8%) steels. grain refinement cycles are similar but done at lower temps. typical procedure is 1x normalizing followed by 3 GR cycles. hardening is the process of turning austenite into martensite. grain refinement can be done by hardening, it is actually faster since a martensitic structure features more 'starting points' for recrystalization but that also has a higher potential to warp the work piece or introduce micro-cracking when done wrong. all of these involve heating steel above Ac1-3 and all are done strictly after shaping/forging.

The pin fell out of the hammer and he put the ram right thru the ceiling. What a bummer . Ah well , shit happens when your working for r a living .
