  • Tutorial on how to make a crochet strawberry hat! In the beginning I said we'd made the earrings but I lost the footage for it :(
    I would say this is a beginning level project and you should know how to do a magic circle, single crochet, slip stitch, and double crochet!
    I've been crocheting since May 2020, but this is the first time I've made a tutorial! Hopefully I'll have time to make more in the future :)

    Written pattern!
    mr: magic circle
    ch: chain
    dc: double crochet
    sl: slip stitch
    st: stitch
    Row 1: mr, ch 3, dc 13, pull mr tight, sl into the first dc(not the chain)
    Row 2: chain 3, dc 2 times in each stitch until end, sl into the first dc
    row 3: chain 3, dc 2 times in first st, dc once in the next st, dc 2 times in 1 stitch, repeat pattern to end, sl into the first dc
    Row 4: chain 3, dc 2 times in first st, dc 2 times in next 2 st, dc 2 times in one st, repeat pattern to end, sl into first dc
    Row 5: chain 3, dc 2 times in first st, dc 3 times in next 3 st, dc 2 times in one st, repeat pattern to end, sl into the first dc
    Row 6: chain 3, 2 dc in first st, dc in next 13 st, dc 2 times in the 14th st, repeat this to the end, sl into the first dc
    Row 7-14: chain 3, dc one time in each st for the whole row
    Next step: once done with Row 14 cut red string but do NOT pull tight as we still need to add the green rim.
    Next step: embroider seeds into the hat
    Next step: add green string by pulling it through the red hoop, chain 3, pull the red tail tight, tie the red and green sting together
    Row 15: (make sure to crochet the red and green tails into the stitches) 2 dc in first st, 1 dc in next st, 2 dc in the next stitch, repeat pattern till end, sl into the first dc
    Row 16: chain 3, 2 dc in each stitch for 5 stitches, 1 dc in the 6th stitch, 2 dc in each st for 5 stitches, repeat pattern to end, sl into the first dc, cut string, fasten off, weave string into hat.

    definitely the easiest version of the hat i’ve seen, i’ve noticed some people gloss over small things which leave beginners to assume what they’re supposed to do which ends up with many flaws in the final product. thank you for this detailed & easy guide!

Everything’s turning out great however the size of the hat is smaller? By row 6 my project is only just about the size of my hand where as yours oooks to be about the size of a small plate.

  • @leanguyeen
    @leanguyeen 17 днів тому

    I used a 5.5mm hook and 8 ply cotton yarn and by the row 6 it was too big for my hat so i decided to size down by start dc after row 5 instead of row 6 and it fit perfectly. But i think next time i’ll try with 4.5mm hook. You guys can try to measure your head by using measuring tape around your head and divided by 3.14. So mine is 56 cm/ 3.14 = 17.8 cm, and if the diameter of the hat equal 17.8 by the end of row 6, i’ll start dc. Just a way to help you guys measure your head for this hat 😊

    • @meldycrochet

      Hello! if you want to make the brims longer, I would recommend doing another row (without increases) for a total of 3 rows!
      If you do it with increases, the brim might be super curly.
      Also, depending on how much longer you want the brims, you can do either single crochets, half dc, or double crochets.

      row 1: 12 double crochets into the magic circle (normally, we would do 13)
      all the other rows would remain the same :)
      this would give the hat a circumference of around 21”

    How to resize :

    • @meldycrochet
      @meldycrochet  6 місяців тому

      to make it bigger you’ll start with 14 dc in the first row (and keep everything else the same)
      to make it smaller you’ll start with 12 dc in the first row! (and keep everything else the same)
      hope this makes sense :)

    Did anyone else’s turn out a bit big or did I just crochet too loosely?

    • @meldycrochet
      @meldycrochet  Рік тому

      sorry for the late reply! i believe you're right and you were crocheting too loosely. you an fix this by using a smaller hook or just consciously trying to crocheting tighter. good luck!

    sorry, is it okay if i use any yarn size?

    • @meldycrochet
      @meldycrochet  Рік тому

      should be okay! you might have to adjust the first row though. If you’re using a thinner yarn, maybe put 14 double crochets. If you’re using a thicker yarn, place maybe 12 double crochets. You kinda have to play around with it to figure it out! good luck!!

      hi! you’re correct!
      i think i miscounted! you should have 65 in row 5 and then we add 5 increases for a total of 70 in row 6! so sorry about that!
