- Tutorial on how to make a crochet strawberry hat! In the beginning I said we'd made the earrings but I lost the footage for it :(
I would say this is a beginning level project and you should know how to do a magic circle, single crochet, slip stitch, and double crochet!
I've been crocheting since May 2020, but this is the first time I've made a tutorial! Hopefully I'll have time to make more in the future :)

Next step: add green string by pulling it through the red hoop, chain 3, pull the red tail tight, tie the red and green sting together
Row 15: (make sure to crochet the red and green tails into the stitches) 2 dc in first st, 1 dc in next st, 2 dc in the next stitch, repeat pattern till end, sl into the first dc
Row 16: chain 3, 2 dc in each stitch for 5 stitches, 1 dc in the 6th stitch, 2 dc in each st for 5 stitches, repeat pattern to end, sl into the first dc, cut string, fasten off, weave string into hat.
woah! thank you so much!
The video was so easy to follow and your comment made it even easier. Thank you!!!
Hello! Thank you SO much for writing this down! I may be over complicating it in my head lol. I thought row 4 was 2 DC in same st, then 1 DC in the next 2 st then back to 2 DC in same st?
@@UhYhLaUrEnn hi, I’ll reply since I saw this you’re correct. It’s 2 DC in one stitch and then only 1 dc in each for the following 2 stitches & then repeat. 2 dc, 1dc, 1dc
@@Nulanila_ thank you so much for clarifying!! Can't wait to see how it turns out
definitely the easiest version of the hat i’ve seen, i’ve noticed some people gloss over small things which leave beginners to assume what they’re supposed to do which ends up with many flaws in the final product. thank you for this detailed & easy guide!
i'm so glad you found it helpful! and yes! when i first started crocheting i was very confused a lot of the time so i really tried to go slow with this tutorial :D
Hello Meldy❤
I working at strawberry farm, many people come to strawberry picking🍓
I made this cute strawberry hat for me and coworkers. They said me that this strawberry hat is the best present they ever got! Also the customers always say to me I could sell it for them😂
Thank you for beautiful tutorial🎉
that is so adorable!!! wow i am tearing up, i would love to see a photo if possible! my instagram is @meldycrochet 🥹💖🫶
I’m making this and I showed my boyfriend. He couldn’t believe it and loves it so far! I can’t wait to finish
Thank you for this! Each step was laid out clearly which helped a lot for someone like me who easily gets lost in the details. Love your work. You should do more tutorials AAAA 💓
i’m so glad you found it helpful!! i tried my best to explain all the steps so i’m glad it helped :D
this was an amazing tutorial. now i’ve made my very first hat 😊 thank you ❤️
this is so cute!! i’m obsessed with making strawberry things right now so yay!😭💚🍓
tysm!! and yes! strawberry things are so cute hehe >:)
I made this hat for my dad and it came out very cute thank you for the tutorial
I used mc 5ply yarn & 7/0 (4.00mm) hook and it turned out small, for kids😆 but it's okay! Glad to watch this tutorial. It's vvv helpful 🫶🏻
I made this following your tutorial! Easy and simple and fun but I am very bad at sewing but I did it correctly and did it good! Love this!
omg yay!! so glad you liked it!🫶🫶
Hey I have literally gone through so many UA-cam vids creating this and I could never understand it until I watched ur vid. Thank you soooo much ☺️
omg yay! i’m so happy you found this helpful! i tried my best to walk through each step carefully so i’m glad it helped :D
Thank you so much for this clear and concise video!! I made it in a day and I’m so happy with how it looks
yay!!!! so happy you found it helpful :D
Hi, say i wanna make this for baby/toddler. How do I resize it? I love this tutorial ❤
Thank you for this tutorial! It was very easy to follow. I used a thinner yarn and had to add more increases which messed me up a little, but I think my hat still turned out really cute!
Made this today, it turned out so so well. Thank you for the pattern!
So happy you liked it!
I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong I’m using a 4.5 hook with worsted weight 4 red heart yarn and following the pattern directly. Everything’s turning out great however the size of the hat is smaller? By row 6 my project is only just about the size of my hand where as yours oooks to be about the size of a small plate.
Made a strawberry and watermelon hat , thank you so much!!! ❤
Hi hi! Thank you so much for this tutorial! I wanted to ask what the size of the hat is/the measurements in case I wanted to make it bigger?
I used a 5.5mm hook and 8 ply cotton yarn and by the row 6 it was too big for my hat so i decided to size down by start dc after row 5 instead of row 6 and it fit perfectly. But i think next time i’ll try with 4.5mm hook. You guys can try to measure your head by using measuring tape around your head and divided by 3.14. So mine is 56 cm/ 3.14 = 17.8 cm, and if the diameter of the hat equal 17.8 by the end of row 6, i’ll start dc. Just a way to help you guys measure your head for this hat 😊
I left after she said crochet needle.
haha! i try not to use needles when i can (sewing is the bane of my existence) but unfortunately it was necessary for this project 😔
Hey! I was just wondering why my crochet looks smaller than yours? I use an 8 ply milk cotton yarn and a 4mm hook. I followed every step but it looked smaller
Hi!! Thank you so much for your video. I can't believe, finally i can make a hat like this! 🤎🤎🤎🤎
so glad you found it helpful!🥰💖
thank u so much for the tutorial!!! i kinda wanna add another row for the brim (the green end part) i was wondering if it’s possible and the pattern for it?? or is it possible?
This was a great explanation, thank you !
I have the right amount of stitches per row each time, but for some reason when i slip stitch it seems like a big gap appears in the previous row??
Вау, вы единственная девушка которого я нашла, когда написала "шапка клубника"
Спасибо большое 🍓🍓🍓✨😳
This is such an awesome tutorial!! If I wanted to make 1 more row of the ruffle section, how would I do that?? Thank you in advance!
hi! for another row of ruffles, i think you could do (1 inc, 1 dc) all the way around. i've never tried it out though but you can play around with it! good luck!
Me gusta su enseñanza su soy una seguidora de su de su canal que dios la siga bendiciendo
Hi what size of yarrn were you using
You're a whole goddess for sharing this 🥰
hehe thank you! hope it was helpful :3
love this tutorial thank u so much!!
yay!!! :D
how do i sewthe seeds?, im slowing the id but its not rlly helping, and its my first time sewing.
Thank you! I'm gonna do it!
yay! :D
great tutorial!! 🥰
Glad you liked it!!
Thank you for this I was wandering if I want to make my brims bigger do I just continue with the 5 HAlf double and then one single?
Hello! if you want to make the brims longer, I would recommend doing another row (without increases) for a total of 3 rows!
If you do it with increases, the brim might be super curly.
Also, depending on how much longer you want the brims, you can do either single crochets, half dc, or double crochets.
Hope this helps! Let me know if you need more help :)
Thank you I’m gonna try this
awesome!! :D
So when it came to your last increase section (row 6) and you moved on to only double crochet (row 7+) did you chain 3 for every row still? Or just chain 2??
you can do either ch 3 or ch 2! i usually do a ch 3 but sometimes i do a ch 2, i am not sure why!
Super easy thanks so much 😊
so glad you find it helpful! :D
Thank you so much for the video! The tutorial is really easy to understand and feasible even for me as a beginner 🧵
But I have one question: do you know how many cm or inches diameter the hat has after row 6?
so glad you found it helpful! the hat should be around 22” after row 6
hope this helps!
@@meldycrochet thank you for the quick response ☺️
How would I go about making the hat bigger for bigger sized heads? (like mine).
hi!! 💕what can i do if i finished the cap portion and it’s too wide/big?
Hi! is it okay to have 70 stitches only after row 6? idk where i did wrong 😔
row 5 (65) +5 (inc) 😭
I ended up with the 70 as well, hoping the extra stitch is meant as the slip stitch 😭
@@hanaanbread i thought so too! but i found another comment about this, and she replied that she just miscounted :)
Same
So worried. Im almost done with mine and its SO wavy. I think i mightve dine something wrong? Any tips?
If you want to make this hat a little bit bigger for a man’s head, could you just do an extra round of increases?
I feel like my initial 6 rounds looks really small compared to yours. I used a weight 4 yarn and size 4 hook. Am I just making my stit he's too tight?
oh no! yeah i would guess that the stitches are loose! i’ve also found that even though some yarn might be the same weight, different brands has varying thickness so you might also be using a thinner yarn!
to accommodate for this you can add an extra double crochet in row 1 and keep everything else the same
hope this helps!
heyy i love this so much and are you also still chaining 3 when you get to row 7-14?
hi! yes you'll still be chaining 3 for these rows :)
❤done making mine
what if i want to make the green part longer, what would be the next patter
My looked more like a beanie and I didn’t have red so instead I made a watermelon beenie
hi thanku for the cute tutorial!! can u pls ans me, hows the size mm/ply of the yarn that u use?
Hi and thank you! The yarn is weight 4 yarn and I use a 4mm hook! Hope this helps :)
Heyy! Can i stop at row 13 instead of row 14? Or will that hinder the final results?
Hi! Great question!
Stopping at row 13 is perfectly fine and won’t affect the end rim of the hat. Your hat may be slightly shallower, but the depth of your hat is totally up to you!
how can i make the brim longer while reserving the curly shape?
you can do another row of (1dc, 1 inc) all the way around! if this isn’t curly enough for you, you can also add more increases as you see fit :)
If I wanted to make the ruffles bigger how could I do that
Thanks you for this! I’ve been doing crochet but it turned out bad
that's okay! crochet is hard, putting in the effort and finishing a project is already amazing! so proud!
My hat begun to ruffle within the 5th row, is this normal?
hi
what kind of yarn do we need for making such hats?
like wool, cotton, acrylic ?
hi! i’m using 100% acrylic yarn here :)
the brand i used is in the description!
@@meldycrochet thankieu so much :)
do you have Kuromi inspired bucket hat?
i have a kuromi sack hat (no bucket hat) but i do have a hello kitty bucket hat!
does anyone know how much yarn you need for this?
Hey i would like to know the size of your yarn because i think mine is smaller, i am adding 2 more rounds for the hat
hi! i use weight 4 yarn! but sometimes the issue can be with the hook? i used a 4mm hook!
also everyone crochets a bit differently so it could also be that your style is has tighter stitches than mine. hope this helps!
@@meldycrochet thanks
How much yarn did you use?
So sorry for the late reply! I buy my yarn in bulk (i used "Pound of Love" in the shade "Cherry" for the red part) so I don't really keep track :(.
If I had to guess, I would say I used around 300 yards of yarn total? I will definitely be more precise next time!
Would a 5mm hook make a huge difference? Closest I’ve got
it’ll make a difference! from my own experience, i would recommend making either your stitches tighter or placing 12 double crochet in row 1 (the magic circle) instead of 13, but follow the pattern for the rest of the rows.
this should accommodate for the larger hook size! hope this helps!
@@meldycrochet thank you :)
@@meldycrochet I’ve finished the final row of increases and it seems a bit too small for my head, will it flare out a bit more as I add more rows or should I add another row increasing to be safe?
@@joebamabiden1325 hi! can you measure the diameter? i can measure one of my hats and compare it :)
@@joebamabiden1325 oh! okay so by row 6 the hat should have a diameter of ~6.75inches! so if you’re around there it should be fine! the hat will flare out a bit more :)
if not, then yes! maybe another row with 5 more increases would help out :)
Thankyyuuubfor this it's so cuteee and aesthetic o restarted a few times but it was still worth it 🤟🤟✨✨✨
yay!!! so glad you enjoy it :)
hello! how many ply are there in weight 4 yarn?😅
hi! i believe it is 4 or 5 ply! either should work, kinda depends on the brand of yarn. hope this helps!
i made it too big, is there a way to make it smaller?
hi! to make it smaller you can start with 12 double crochets in row 1 instead of 13! every other row will stay this same! this should decrease the circumference by ~1.5 inches! hope this helps :)
What size is this
Di i do it wrong i have 67 for row 5😭
Hey what is the size of the yarn?
weight 4!
how many grams of yarns did u use?
hi! so sorry but i didn't keep track :(
you lost me at magic circle
chain four and slip stitch in the first stitch! then use the middle of those like a magic ring if that makes sense
Hello If i want to make a smaller hat do I need to make less stitches at the beginning? Like for a baby hat?
great question! to make a small hat, i would recommend
row 1: 12 double crochets into the magic circle (normally, we would do 13)
all the other rows would remain the same :)
this would give the hat a circumference of around 21”
and if you wanted to make it smaller you would decrease 12 dc to 11 or 10!
hope this helps!
@@meldycrochet thank you so much yes it did wonderful!
How to resize :
to make it bigger you’ll start with 14 dc in the first row (and keep everything else the same)
to make it smaller you’ll start with 12 dc in the first row! (and keep everything else the same)
hope this makes sense :)
Hi can I get the pattern
hi! i have a pattern for this hat for sale on Etsy for 2 USD!
i spent hours making the pattern which is why i’m selling it :) the link to my Etsy is in the description box! thanks for your understanding :)
Did anyone else’s turn out a bit big or did I just crochet too loosely?
sorry for the late reply! i believe you're right and you were crocheting too loosely. you an fix this by using a smaller hook or just consciously trying to crocheting tighter. good luck!
sorry, is it okay if i use any yarn size?
should be okay! you might have to adjust the first row though. If you’re using a thinner yarn, maybe put 14 double crochets. If you’re using a thicker yarn, place maybe 12 double crochets. You kinda have to play around with it to figure it out! good luck!!
I only got 70 on row 6 😭
hi! you’re correct!
i think i miscounted! you should have 65 in row 5 and then we add 5 increases for a total of 70 in row 6! so sorry about that!
@@meldycrochet ahh okie tysm! 😊
@@meldycrochet ahh i was so confused! kept recounting. glad someone else had my same problem :p
can i know how many yarns u used?
i believe i used around 120 yard of red yarn! this is kinda an estimate but yeah!
Subtitulos al español :(
i was halfway done until i realized mine was small, i then realized i was making half double crochets cause i thought you were saying that but this whole time you were saying DOUBLE crochets 🥹🥹🥹 had to redo it 😭
oh no! i'm so sorry! taking apart a project after getting so far is really frustrating! i'll try be clearer in the future :) i hope your hat turns out well though! :D
