I just bought my first pair of selvedge denim today. I got these exact brave stars. This video got recommended so I think youtube is trying to tell me that sick fades are in my future lol.
UA-cam has predicted your destiny! There’s no turning back now. In all seriousness though, awesome to hear you bought your 1st pair of selvedge denim. When you think you’re ready for the 1st soak or wash, wear them 10 more times!
Found 2 pairs of selvedge denim at the thrift store: Brave Star Lean Straight Sz 31 & some mystery Japanese brand (can’t translate the label, but the denim feels nice.) Both pairs are dark, barely seem worn or broken in. Front picked has faint cell phone outline on the Japanese brand, but that’s it. No idea how many times they’ve been washed in their lifetime, or why they were donated with such minimal wear.
Sadly, no. They had a knee blowout, then a crotch blowout and then another knee. Patched and sewed those areas only to have it happen again. I would say they lasted about 400+ wears
Thanks for commenting! As for shrinkage, only after the initial wash, and that was really only a little length being taken off. Overall though, the jeans tend to stretch out a bit over time and stop being as tight as they are brand new. Washing them will tighten them up a bit, but they will expand back to the size before washing.
I think I have blowouts in that same spot on every single one of my brave Star jeans. I think it’s just the way they are weave and cut. I’m OK with it because I take it to my local laundromat who does alterations and out of the six pairs I own I have every single one of them needed a repair right thereso now when I buy new pants from them, I’m just going to have an extra piece of cloth stitched in there before the blowout happens great pants though
Interesting! I have a pair of Naked & Famous with easily over 400 wears, and they just began to have a small amount of fraying in the crotch and seat. They have definitely held up way better than Brave Star has over time. I may get the Brave Star’s professionally repaired, but need to find a shop that will do it for under $80, as that is what I’ve been finding for repair prices. Super cool you found a good shop to get yours repaired!
Great fades! Classic. Love the two-phone shape, real wear vs fake distress, no comparison. Thanks for the vid. I have a pair just like that, still brand new, good to know their potential. But still, honestly, the best contrasts and the whiskers are on that zebra you got. Never wash it, eh? :)))
Thanks man! Those zebra whiskers…one of a kind! Make sure that when you feel like giving your pair their first dunk, wear them 10 more times, your fades will thank you.
@@DIYTutorialGuy Thanks for the tip. Duly noted. These Cone Mills “Blue Collar” even unbroken are so velvety smooth and soft on the inside that I am saving them for a truly special occasion. Like, maybe meeting the Dalai Lama. :)
Nice fades! Cool video. I don't know why Brave Star doesn't put the weight on their tags or patch. I hate that there's no way to check which jeans they are after you've had them for some time.
Thanks for your videos. It helped convince me to try a pair of Bravestars. The fades are nice. You really need patience to do that. The only thing that would drive me crazy is the imprints that the wallet and phone left in the jeans. That’s just my own neurosis.
These are some of the best fades I’ve seen! What weight denim were these? I can’t believe your jeans didn’t stack enough at the bottom to get honeycombs. Now I wonder how long they gotta be to develop honeycomb stacks. I wanna buy some of their factory seconds on sale for $58. I’m thinking of having them hem them and asking them to send the scraps so I can fix blowouts in the future.
Thanks! The fades on this pair are pretty nice! I think the lack of stacking came from having them hemmed, as there isn’t too much extra length. Can’t go wrong with their 2nds, hope they give you the scraps for blowouts. I have 2 pair that I need to patch over here, send some my way!
Awesome to hear! I wasn’t as happy with the video quality, as the rental we are temporarily in has bad lighting. But I think it worked. Hope you enjoyed it!
Thanks for asking a great question! I have Levi’s 501’s and 511’s that I put in the washing machine roughly every 10-12 wears, sometimes more if they still aren’t dirty. If they’re not dirty and don’t smell bad, what’s the point? That’s how I view denim jeans. Im regards to raw denim, the longer you go without washing them, the better distressed fades you get. The jeans are customized to how you wear them. I’ve gone 50, 75, and 100 wears before washing my raw denim jeans in the tub. Honestly, it’a a matter of preference!
I’m in a motorcycle club, so I had to cut off sleeves to my Levi’s jacket when I had a blowout in my Cone Mills pants I just stitched it and then cut a piece of the sleeve. I cut off and stitched it up from the inside so no one sees my family jewels I think is your pants character
Yes and no, and I’m not being a smartass. The denim will naturally stretch as you wear it. However, once you do your 1st wash/soak the denim will shrink back to almost it’s original size. Some times it may shrink even more.
My man, I am also a Deadhead! I have a new video coming out February 14th where I’m wearing a Steal Your Face shirt. My favorite years are ‘69-‘78. Europe ‘72 is just dynamite! No Mickey, no problem. What’s your favorite era? As for Phish, I’ve seen them 60 times so far, best live show going these days!

How’d your jeans turn out?
These look amazing
Thank you!
They are now “retired” after the crotch and knees had blow outs!
Excited to try my first pair. Yours look fantastic 💪🏽🇺🇸
Thanks for the compliment.
Enjoy your 1st pair!

As a female, my favorite jeans are PRPS. Are you familiar with those?
I am not familiar!
What do you like about them?
Still wearing these? Need an update!
Sadly, no.

Overall have you notice any shrinkage ? Specifically in the waste and thigh ?
Thanks for commenting!

@@DIYTutorialGuy thanks for the reply!
So the waist ad thigh never really shrunk a drastic ammount?
In my experience, that is the case.
@@DIYTutorialGuy just ordered the “blue blood” slim straight! Thanks again.
Hell yeah!!
Dry Tutorial what is the number of the blue collar on the inside i bought a blue collar from a guy gest to be shore thanks
I’m not sure I understand your question.
The only number on the inside is the waist size.
Can you clarify so that I can be of more assistance?

It would be nice to have the tag to remind me of the weight, I agree!

I believe these are 13.5 oz. Man I remember when you got these. Cool fades brother
Hey Luis! Thanks for reminding me, glad you dig the fades.
I’m working on a couple other pairs now, so stick around!
32 oz ?
13.5oz
I’ve never seen 32oz denim. If you have any, send it my way for a review!
I dig the cellphone fade.
Period appropriate fade!
@@DIYTutorialGuy Totally! Like your content keep it coming!
Much appreciated, thanks!
I usually wash my jeans after wearing them 3 or 4 times. What is the reason you rarely wash them?
Thanks for asking a great question!

My man, genius idea! I’m going to be using this.
Just had another blowout in another pair of Brave Star’s.
And no, I’m not gaining weight 😂
Do they stretch out/up in size after wearing?
Yes and no, and I’m not being a smartass.
The denim will naturally stretch as you wear it. However, once you do your 1st wash/soak the denim will shrink back to almost it’s original size. Some times it may shrink even more.
@@DIYTutorialGuy Should I order their 31 or 32? Using their size guide I'm 17" or 34. 31 is 16.75 +/- .5 and 32 is 34.5 +/- .5.
I would go with the 31.
I went with an extra half inch for another pair from Brave Star and have to use a belt to hold them up.
@@DIYTutorialGuy THANKS
Honestly the quality you get for the price you only have to pay 20 $30 more then you would on Levi’s or any other big box store jeans
I agree!
