    Back in the 70's we used a home-made device that we called the tube cooker. It was really simple, it just applied HT to the grid of the CRT via a resistor. Connections to the tube were made with small croc clips. Great for mono tubes but once colour came along we got the B&K 467 and it was a great piece of gear. Even what seemed like a 'beyond death' tube would come back and look great! That was a great demo you did and it all came back to me! Happy days!

    Dude! I bought the CR-23 from you last week and just got done bringing my third monitor back to life! 3 in on week! I had an MK2 with a shot green gun and following your steps I was able to restore it. It looks beautiful now, no more purple Raiden. My T2 was totally screwed and now it looks fantastic! I would not have been able to do it without this video. THANK YOU!

    I just purchased a BK 467 and restored a wells 7900 19inch monitor using your video. I've capped monitors for many years, but this was my first tube saving as the green was completely out. Now all work perfect. Thank you so much. .

    I lucky to pick up a B&K 467 and put an Aust plug on it as it was set for 240 volts but from UK. They are usually 110/120 volt from US so just be aware of that if you buy one as you need to make adj to transformer for diff voltage & plug. I love the unit and this is an excellent video on using the 467 and sticking to the manuals instructions as these older unit have strong voltages even in the lowest setting so i only ever used the clean and bal and have had excellent result with just one to three "zaps but usually one is enough. Use caution as these were designed for older CRT heavy guns ; the newer tv CRT have finer ones and can be damaged with the these older style units, so go easy and stick to the directions and lowest setting should be plenty but be aware there is risk of destroying the newer crt sometimes so beware of that. I find these older restorers are perfect for older TV's, analog oscilloscopes & Arcade tubes as per this video so mine will get some use yet.

    Very good rejuve how to 👍 These are good kits to own, i know you say its not worth it if you only have a couple machines but i bought one when my first Arcade machine 19" tube kept shorting on the green gun every so often, tube was semi burn free so thought I would try and clear the short and my b+k sorted the issue with the "clear short feature" I also noticed the contrast was maxed out and flyback was up very high to the point of seeing retrace lines so obviously tube was dimmed out, the tube has been excellent ever since.
    Now that i have a few machines and a lot if crt tvs for gaming the b+k has been worth it's weight in gold.

      Glad you liked the video.
      good going on getting your tubes back in good looking shape!!!
      one reason i don't think collectors of 2-5 games should be buying them up is, after they use it once or twice it just sits on a shelf and is lost to the world. this also inflates the prices when folks need them.
      if they used it and then offered it to the rest of the community that would be just awesome.
      but from my experience they just sit on a shelf and are lost to the folks that need them.
      i had several in the past on my shelf at one time, i had them fixed and sold so they could be used again.
      i always offer services to all my local collectors when i am at a gathering or they bring a monitor here for repair.
      it's good to know my unit is wearing out from use and not sitting on a shelf.
      if you ever don't need yours, please offer it to the community and help others that have tube issues.
      lets keep ALL the tube that we can in the world!!!!!!!!!!!!!
      Peace
      Buffett

      @@buffett1978 yea I've had mine about 5 years now but the arcade warehouse i bought my first cab from they come to me for tube testing, repairs / rejuvs on thier cabs they restore and sell off to gamers / collector's, being in the uk rejuvenation kits are incredibly rare and if you do find one they are silly money plus crt tubes are getting thin on the ground here, the digital switch over here saw so many crts destroyed so we have to keep the old ones going on these cabs for as long as possible, so yup mines getting regular use, plus the fact i seem to be spending most of my time at the moment fixing worn out arcade monitors....the old crts are labour of love for me 👍

    Ive got a Philips 19" tube that i believe is coming to its end, when i ever i turn the cab on the picture always looks blueish until it warms up and the colours are good, i know its not chassis as ive replaced it and still the same, i put the tube on the Rejuvenator, red gun was just about in the green, green gun was in the yellow but the blue gun was way up in the green and a lot higher than the other 2, so preformed a clean and balance the red and the green cleaned just fine but when i did the blue the needle wouldn't drop but rather just fluctuate but never fall to the red zone it jsut hangs up even tried rejuvenation but still the same, all 3 guns are in the green and roughly in the same spot but now but this is what gets me i have to turn up my red gain quite high and my blue down very low plus i also have to turn up the flyback as the picture is a lot darker than before, my tube was listed in the bk manual so i put the correct voltages to it i just find it odd that my picture is darker than before now.

    • @buffett1978
      @buffett1978  3 роки тому

      did you put the tube on it's face and try tapping on the neck with a wooden block?
      that can dislodge stuff from the guns if it is stuck ion them.
      if that does not help you can turn the heater and G1 voltage up and rejuve the tube.
      this can also get it to come back to life.
      if all that does not work then your tube could have an issue or is already to far gone to "fix".

    I finally bought one of these but missing the cr23 and 31 adapters. Do you still sell them?
    Also I've watch a few other videos on this rejuvenation process and noticed some comments from ex TV engineers saying this process is short lived. In your experience of doing this over the years is that true?
    Thank you for posting this. Iiked and subscribed :p

      HI, yes i still sell them, please email me at thearcadebuffett@gmail.com
      i have had good luck with rejuvination over the years, most tubes seem to be ok, yes there are some that fail again shortly afterwords, but in a home environment it seems to work well, in an Arcade where the already used tubes are run 8-15 hours a day, no, not as much pending on the tube.
      thanks for the support, hope you enjoy the videos i will continue to post in the future.

    BUFFEET ARCADE MAN,
    Is the CRT rejuevenator adding and injecting more Electrons into the RGB ray gun?
    What is the CRT rejuevenator doing to the monitors neck circuit board and tube?

    • @buffett1978
      @buffett1978  4 роки тому

      it does not do any of that.
      it measures the emissions and how well the guns can emit Electrons.

    • @billwilliams6338

      @@buffett1978 but how it is measuring the emissions of the RGB and how the guns emit electrons? Because I have heard its not good very bad to use Rejuevenators on TV tubes because it kills the live of the RGB signals because its burning off the emissions. Hi, you will need to take the unit apart and re-flow all the solder joints in the machine.
      they suffer from cold cracked solder.
      i had to do that on mine when different items stopped working. i had dozens of bad joints, it was a wounder ti was working at all all theses years.
      cap it as well wile you have it apart,
      take your time, there is a lot of stuff to keep track of inside that are just press fit and with no pics or documents on how it goes back together readily available it can drive you nuts tying to get it all back where it belongs.
      if that does not work you may have to find someone that repairs them, i do not repair them.
      good luck.

    • @curtislv426
      @curtislv426 3 роки тому

      @@buffett1978 thank you for the fast reply. I'm looking it over now I'm seeing some cold solder joints where a long connector goes. I also saw that two of the light bulbs were out of the sockets and inside of the chassis. It looks like those light bulbs need to be connected for circuitry reasons. I wasn't expecting that. They look to still be good so I just twisted those back in their socket and I used my ESR meter and tested all the capacitors on the bottom of the board and they all test good so hopefully those light bulbs for the problem and cold solder joints. Do you think those light bulbs were probably the problem for the heater voltage?

      @buffett1978  7 років тому +2

      HI, you can use most any CRT tester from the B&K 467 and newer.
      the adapter you will need depends on what pin-out your tube is.
      if you can post your tube # then we can try to look it up to see what you need.
      if your tube uses one of the adapters i make for the B&K 467-490 then all you will need is to buy the unit and i can make the adapter if it does not have one with it.

      see if you can ohm the heater pins, if you can that will narrow down what they are a little, if you have the neck boards you can trace the circuits to find the color guns and the ground pins, once you get that info you can match it up or post your readings, and maybe someone can help match them up. or i can make a custom adapter with your neck board if your trying to rejuve them, also is the tube a dual focus tube? some are if they have 2, focus pins.

      yes if you have no clue what your doing you can burn up a tube or break a chassis.
      i have noticed over the years, that TV repair shops have no real clue on how to actually fix monitors, most of the real, old repair techs are gone/retired, and all you have now are parts swappers that have no real clue how to do repairs.

    Very nicely done; Question! did you perform a life test on this particular picture tube before proceeding with the other repairs? being a technician myself I realize this is a rough indicator on the longevity of the tube. I agree with you that it is a big advantage when viewing all three guns at the same time and you tend to get better results because you have better control.

    • @buffett1978
      @buffett1978  8 років тому

      +John Cunningham
      the life test is a false positive and is pretty useless.
      i have rejuved tubes and had it show 70-90% good on the guns and the life test show fantastic.
      then after only a couple minuets to a couple days have the tube totally short internally and kill it's self.
      so from my observation/experience that function should not even be used as you never know with 20-50+ year old tubes when they will die out.

    • @johncunningham5435
      @johncunningham5435 8 років тому

      When I did service warranty for Zenith years ago I ran into a big problem with their picture tubes. They usually developed a G1 short or heater to cathode issues. At that time I was using the Sencore CR70 Picture Tube restorer which normally could remove most G1 problems, but when the emission was weak and I attempted the reactive feature generally the results were poor and l was forced to order a rebuilt tube that sometimes the guns were not aligned properly causing color issues that meant all that hard work went down the drain. My point is they were a lousy tube that could not stand up to a restore forcing you to replace.

    • @buffett1978
      @buffett1978  8 років тому +1

      +John Cunningham over the years i have noticed that Zenith tubes are the worst out of all of them for sure. i also have noticed the growing G1 short issue in tubes i zap for folks, most times it does not affect the image to much, but once in a wile the short is so bad you cannot save the tube.
      since you cannot get new tubes anymore a rejuve is about the only thing you can do now other than a tube swap to get a new looking monitor.

    Anyone know if I have a chance in hell of finding a 17HP4, 17HP4A, 17HP4B, Sylvania 17RP4, 17RPB? I got a Firestone 13G54 in Mint condition, out of use since 1962 = because the CRT Heater is OPEN. I will buy a used one even (if it isn't FUBAR like this) for cash, paypal whatever
