The venue is big and has had a lot of work done to it so it can be used for hire the rest of the week. It may have been essential to do this financially.
Hearing the Killing Joke and their glorious Love Like Blood brings back memories of dark nights, incredible hairstyles, looks from fantastic movies that I was able to live here in Lima Peru at parties and new wave clubs in the late 80's and early 90's.
The club has declined over the years. First in the late 90's when the weekly trad goth floor shut and instead become a monthly thing. That drove out a lot of people. In the mid-2000's there was another drop-off of in regulars. I haven't seen the club since then. I didn't enjoy the way it was then. Looking at it now, people don't tend to dress up as much, or have the really well put together looks that there used to be. It looks more like some rock bar. The old trad goth floor was up on what could by called the fourth level. They stopped using that floor because of fire restrictions but I do remember them opening it for New Years a couple of times. We used to take our own drinks and if we arrived early they did special half price offers at the bar. The problem for Slimes was that there was a huge sub culture that broke into the mainstream between the late 70's- mid 90's that got people into the scene. The new music on the scene is almost entirely underground. New people are often introduced to the goth scene via other genres of music such as rock and mental and word of mouth. There doesn't seem to be a lot of clubs now. In the early-mid 2000's there was still a number of regular club nights. Used to be one in a pub near Kings Cross and then Dead and Buried opened it.

I didn't go again after 2005 I think- it just lost so many people, and so many regulars. I came along when the scene in Kensington Market was shifting to Camden and EBM and future pop were becoming really popular.
It really looks shite now! I used to go there every Sat during the 90' but It started to change around 94/95...It was brilliant when the goth dance floor was upstairs (the third floor basically), then they closed It and It all went down the drain.

Changed so much since the mid 90s when I went. Looks like a regular club now. Do you still take your own drinks in. Great memories.
Unfortunately no :-(. I know this club since mid 80's when it opend and it at a lot changed for shure.
