I think the loxo's would insult the low dexterity of the loxodon's trunks while the loxodon would see the loxo's neutrality and lack of loyalty as a character flaw, calling them traitors.
I would say that the mysterious Homeland of the Loxxo and Loxodons would almost certainly be Yag, featured in the Conan Tale The Tower of the Elephant. Perhaps both races are just further waves of exiles from the same power struggle that doomed Yag-Kosha to his long, sad, life of torture in the dungeon of Yara.
It would be easy to pigeonhole both races into certain classes, but clearly there are many class options which would work. Paladins, monks, rangers and druids seem like obvious choices, but I'd love to see a Loxodon Apostle of Peace. Having taken multiple vows (silence, poverty, violence...etc). A creature so regal and respected would become a bridge between just about any waring races. However, a Loxo Barbarian dual wielding hand axes in it's trunks and two Battle axes in it's hands would also be a force to be reckoned with. It seems both are capable of great force and great restraint.

Loxodon are my favorite, their mindset and culture are just really fun to play with. Their sense of kinship towards their group is often the glue that holds together a party of very different individuals. I like putting them in leadership positions of groups that need that kind of solidarity, partnering them with companions of different yet similar mindsets, like hobgoblins, makes for a very fun game chemistry. Rivals on the battlefield, but close friends in their downtime. Also puts them in an amusing situation where they will encourage behavior from one another that is inconsistent with their disposition. A Luxodon may attempt to impress the need for compassion to their more savage companions, who will conversely try to urge them to behave more ruthlessly. But with a "might makes right" perspective, it's tough to argue with a stubborn elephant man.

There are quite a lot of stat differences between loxo and loxodons, such as them having 10ft reach, +8 strength, and a trample ability... however I suspect this is largely down to loxo being Large in 3.5, while loxodon are introduced in 5e as the somewhat unbelievable size of Medium. The way size changes between the editions is... a bit hand wavy. However, one thing which has nothing to do with this is that loxo mature to adulthood at 12 and seldom live more than 100 years. They have a far shorter lifespan. I would imagine this has a significant impact on their culture.

Great video as always, AJ! It’s nice to see a large and powerful good-aligned race to help deal with the multitude of big bad nasties in D&D. If one of my players played either Loxodon or Loxo I would definitely home brew advantage on stealth if they aren’t wearing armor since elephants have natural padding in their feet. To offset that, I would say that finding powerful equipment for them would have to match their massive physique, or forging equipment would require extra time and material.
Given their strong faith and reliance on corporeal punishment, I could see there being an order of Loxodon Monks that practice a rigorous routine of self-flagellation and repentance. Basically, I think they might be the most likely to develop Christianity.
A race with skin as thick as leather armor would see little point in whipping themselves :) What else could they use that would be a little more extreme?
AJ Pickett A Cat of Nine Tails tipped in steel barbs, or course. Or a spiked paddle. Or one of those cilice things like the monk from The DiVinci Code code wore. Or if they don’t want to go with tools that pierce the skin, they could use flails made from heavy hemp rope tied to an 8 to 12 pound lead ball on their backs or they could use the thin side of a boat oar applied liberally to the ribcage. There are plenty of ways for one to beat themselves.

with how protective they are of their tribes they probably don't talk about where they come from as a means of protecting their original home and presumably their distant relatives. cant invade and attack what you don't even realize exists.

(Disclaimer: I do not play magic the gathering and do not know about its lore) My theory is that Ravnica is an alternative reality where the demons who the blood war. So the loxo loxodon are just different versions of the same race. The timeline leading up to Ravnica: 1. The Fey unify under one ruler. This ruler starts consuming other nature gods, this being becomes Mat’Selesnya (Selesnya Conclave). 2. The now unified nature priests join with a group of wizards with the purpose of creating new life. After a while they forget their religion beginnings (Simic Combine). 3. Some followers of one of the last other gods (this god is Ilharg, the Raze-Boar). They help the demons due to their chaotic nature (Grull Clans). 4.The Demons win the blood war forcing the (arch)devils* to retreat to the prime material plane. Most set themselves corrupt the banking establishment into fooling them and worshiping them (Orzhov Syndicate). 5.The Demons chase the feeling devils to prime material plane. They are lead by the demon lord Graz'zt (who is renamed Rakdos). He gets stuck (I will tell you why) on the prime and set up a mixer of a traveling carnival and a war band (Cult of Rakdos). 6. The amount of destruction causes a group of crazy lunatics who live in the wake of the demons to grow under a philosophy of rebirth (Golgari Swarm). 7. The common folk gather in safe places which are protected by sphinxes against the demons. The small isolated groups communicate through magical messages and create a code of laws. (Azorius Senate). 8. The good gods hear the prayers of the faithful and send a legion of angels. The LG angels create a military structure and start to battle the demonic hordes that are pouring forth. This legion is secretly joined by Zariel who continues here campaign against the demons (Boros Legion). 9. With the army of angels running around (and encouraged by Dispater) a vampire (who has been able to save him save from the demons) create an information network to keep himself alive (House Dimir). 10. The angles, good people, banks (egged on by the Archdevil) and the followers of Mat’Selesnya unify the scientific community together to find a way to forever stop the demonic invasion. They under the leadership of a Dragon are able to cast a ritual which cuts off the prime from the astral plane (this is why Graz’zt/Rakdos is trapped). Other wizard follower darker paths egged on by Mephistopheles (Izzet League). 11. In the outer Celestial stopped the demons on Acheron and Carceri/Limbo. This is because of an effect of the ritual which causes planes travelers to hop between adjacent planes to travel them. Also Carceri is next to limbo because a Greater Power hurred it there and since it traps everyone there few demons can get to limbo where they die to the githzerai *Zariel joins the boros, Dispater joins dimir, Mammon joins the Orzhov, Belial joins the Orzhov, Fierna joins the Orzhov, Levistus is still trap in that block of ice but is allied with the Orzohv, Baalzebul is left behind because of his curse, Mephistopheles joins the Izzet and, Asmodeus joins the Orzhov. The 5 Archdevils that join the Orzhov are the reason that there are 5 ghosts on the Obzedat.

Hey AJ! Quick question about loxo/loxodons: if they were to reproduce with a dragon if even possible would that half dragon have a trunk/s? And if so could they use it to produce a longer range breath weapon but I’ll be it a more focused smaller radius cone almost a beam version of what ever type of dragon they are? PS. To clarify I mean could they use their trunk to produce a modified version of the breath weapon they already have so they would have both as an option but it would fallow the same rules as a breath weapon with the caveat it could really only target one medium creature at a time.

Really enjoying your content. Perhaps you could included some text in your videos? It would really help with the note taking so we don't have to Google the proper spelling of specific names and locations.
Adding to my dungeon and dragons and magic the gathering playlists I got a foil luxodon card
Made a barbarian lox....called him Roll Tide.
I’m currently playing a loxodon cleric of the forge domain and is in the service of Moradin.
New Phyrexia would be a badass DnD setting...
I WANT IT SO BAD!
@@AJPickett funnily enough, almost all of the races of Mirrodin have been printed in official content so it wouldn't even be difficult to homebrew either. Just missing the trolls. Elves and humans are basic races. Loxodon, goblins, and vedalken were in the Ravnica book. And the last major race the Leonin were printed in Theros.
Awesome vid, would definitely play the wooly mammoth version hunting yetis
Wooly Loxodon.
Elephant people? They look like the African Elephant versions of Ganesha.
Loxodons are awsome I made a cleric one haven't got to use him yet!
why WotC doesn't like Large size playable races???
Well they haven’t made any above 10ft in height.
@@error5202 but Centaurs, Loxodons & Minotaurs should have been categorized as Large. their monster counterparts are, anyway.
because they don't wanna get into designing Dungeons for sizes other than medium and small
@@jgr7487 good point
My brain just tells me that a humanoid with an elephant head is dumb, and a humanoid with a bull head is cool. It just feels more out of place with something that's so alien and overspecialized. You wouldn't even need a trunk if you had arms in the first place. Maybe 6e will have platypus men......
But what does your heart tell you?
This is your 40th video I’ve watched and my favorite so far. I love the rarer races! Keep it up 👍🏾
Heavy on the hssssss must be the audio
So this is the species the Babar childrens books are about.... ;)
with how protective they are of their tribes they probably don't talk about where they come from as a means of protecting their original home and presumably their distant relatives.
cant invade and attack what you don't even realize exists.
Loxodons I've heard of, but not loxos... they look creepy as hell
"Unitrunk!"
"Squid face!"

Cant you buy elephants in dnd if so how would a loxodon react to seeing someone with a pet elephant
@@thurismundbotheric7598 oh ok thanks for the clarification
There are elephants on Ravnica, there are also Elephants on Faerun, neither Loxodons or Loxo would see anything wrong with an elephant mount.
@@AJPickett k thanks for replying
I wonder if they would get along with the Giff? Weird video kiwi,im not used to seeing creatures from a card game in D&D,although i could quite easily make up stats for them in my 1st and 2nd ed. Thanks.
The Loxo have been part of Forgotten realms for quite a while :)
@@AJPickett so they are,so they are. lol
The first Magic card conversions to D&D were done in Dragon Magazine while Second Edition was still going.
(Disclaimer: I do not play magic the gathering and do not know about its lore)
My theory is that Ravnica is an alternative reality where the demons who the blood war. So the loxo loxodon are just different versions of the same race.
The timeline leading up to Ravnica:
Also Carceri is next to limbo because a Greater Power hurred it there and since it traps everyone there few demons can get to limbo where they die to the githzerai
*Zariel joins the boros, Dispater joins dimir, Mammon joins the Orzhov, Belial joins the Orzhov, Fierna joins the Orzhov, Levistus is still trap in that block of ice but is allied with the Orzohv, Baalzebul is left behind because of his curse, Mephistopheles joins the Izzet and, Asmodeus joins the Orzhov. The 5 Archdevils that join the Orzhov are the reason that there are 5 ghosts on the Obzedat.
What a mouf full
Fun fact: loxodons are probably the only animal based race where giving them a hug rack is anatomically correct. Look up elephant breasts if you don't believe me
That is a fun fact :D
Why? Why do you know this? What possible event would happen that you would just have this information about elephant breasts?

I love the art work. Very informative.... I think a Psionicist Loxodont would make a great character. The deep infra-sounds they could make, similar to echolocation, could be a great divination (physical) puzzle solving mystery the other characters might never discover.
Enemies?!? A race of mice humanoids.... 🤣
Great video :) I always use your ideas for planning out my games :)
These are both new to me. Good video. Thanks for the info AJ.
And I was thinking that we try to pretend that there is no Loxodon
Sounds Awesome I'd love to be a Loxodon
I feel much like humanity and the different kinds of cavemen these 2 similar races may have a common ancestor that they may have decended from
digunder14 I agree
Small thing but I'm not sure it's fair to call real world elephants "nonsentient" . While they're problem solving skills seem pretty basic to humans they're much stronger than most animals.
They must have great memory!
I never realized how different African and Indian elephants really are.
I heard there was a spider race in D&D.
I really wouldn't want to meet one of those guys.
Which one are you referring to? Ankheg, Aranea, Driders, Jorogumo, Demon Retrievers, Bebilith, Rast, Phase Spiders, or Were-Spiders?

hey there! im looking for a Loxo race to play in a new game. but i cant fint any text for it, can you help me?
Does Athas of Dark Sun have an ecology? Or is it all just a grab bag of random monsters
Athas has a lot of giant reptiles, insects, monstrous creatures, undead, large birds, and tons of bandits.
Its a death world. So mostly deserts caused by magic users defiling the land to empower their spells.
Sad dark sun didn't get a 3rd edition remake
I think my halfling arcane trickster could have some fun with an encounter with this race! I recently pulled off a meta reduction spell that made a bunch of minotaurs to realize what it means to be the little guy! Lol!
Halfling and Loxo.. Master Blaster from Mad Max Thunderdome?
Here wuz Seamus!
It was very interesting, thank you!
I don't know.
@@AJPickett fair enough
The equivalent of throwing a dragon breath through your nose?
I dunno, that does not sound like a dragon breath.
