    In Australia, should I send a receipt when an invoice is paid? Is this overkill?

      It depends. You should send a receipt of your customer wants one but a lot of the time they don't do there is no need.

    So ok you have given a receipt or invoice whatever is it, well how does a business entity record theirs? Do they have also a copy of receipt? That prove something?

      Yes both people or businesses involved in a transaction should keep a copy of every invoice, receipt and any other document.
