👉 1000 LIKES Please! What is your favourite Ed Rush + Optical track? 😀
My favourite changes depending on my mood but the one that stands out the most because of nostalgia would be the instrumental version of The Creeps.
Oooh,, so may to pick from.!. gotta be kerbcrawler or pacman remix,, cannot pick between the two...
Chubrub!
@@Globalplayersmattertoo OH yeah pacman got so many rewinds back in the day!
@@TomFooleryTheAustere Good one, couple on that LP I liked, Rock the House being one.
Man I hate how youtube takes my time sometimes but I don't regret a second of watching this channel, it inspires me every time to get back into producing and even though I'm very much a beginner I just enjoy my day every single time I spend time making music . Truly a blessing during these hard times, my gratitude is immense!! love ya
Awesome to hear that man!!
😱 Ed Rush + Optical - Bacteria: ua-cam.com/video/St4P4m8hOlk/v-deo.html
That Intro is Sick and Funny at the same time lmao....you should make it your intro for every video haha
Not a bad idea!
@@STRANJAH I don't know, I still think that having a different intro every time (can be simple) makes it more interesting. Maybe i'm alone on this, but sometimes i click the video just to watch the intro and then I follow the tutorial when I have more time ! :p I still think this new intro is dope and if you can make similar ones, I would gladly enjoy watching them!
@@STRANJAH No ALL your intros are genious! They are all amazing so never stop being creative with them :D
@@STRANJAH i particularly like the ones that involve dancing. hahah
its got that 90s rave flyer vibe.
Dude, The nine has got to be next😊, this is an awesome vid by the way!

The rimshot just does it for me.
My favorite track was gasmask. I started a DNB crew back in the days called gaz::mazk in Belgium. So Belgian heads might know.
That's cool, bigup the gas mask crew. Track is very relevant for today 😉
Structure béton 😎
This is so great man, I first heard this when TIPPER played it live but at a lower breaks speed, amazing!! Thank you for this!!
The Host is by far my fave
Never knew about the bass! I love that they took it from an old techno tune - a bit like Dominator or Mentasm
Wicked! Nicey , STRANJAH ! 🌋
Less 'feedback' on the flanger will change up the harmonic content on the sweep worlds, less depth on the phaser will add more fat harmonics on the sweeps,, made this bass years ago with an EMU e6400 and a bunch of rack modules, the z-plane filter modes help a lot with the BP sweeps, pretty nice job emulating it in Live.
Thanks for the tip will try it out!
@Burnt Herb Mackie desk distortion, I used the old 32x8 buss desk back then, same thing boymerang used to make the 'boymerang' break (He also used a Sony DAT, a Roland JV1080, a boss drum machine and an EMU E4XT Ultra, as well), you 'direct out' from one channel into another and shape not only the gain output stage, but the eq as well, you can keep jumping channels on the board itself and then buss it back into the sampler and resample it to really ring out more harmonics created by the z-plane filters, then you can continue to add more noise and filter pass layers and so on until you have something interesting, there's been a lot of 'gate keeping' on the precise method of this over the years on the forums that I've seen, but it's a pretty sure fire way to get a lot of those really nasty ripping lead bass sounds a lot of the early tech step guys were known for, it's really quite simple once you understand how it works, much of this however can be done with modern DAWs, however, the old AKAI / EMU analog inputs really could roast the shit out of anything fed into em and really added a lot of color and character to anything fed through them.
if anyone wants some more context for that emu+mackie combo, here's a video from fracture and neptune showing it off ua-cam.com/video/yheX4yrOOQI/v-deo.html
and here's one specifically on the "direct out" distortion thing (it's for making gabber kicks, but same idea) ua-cam.com/video/YMnHiUnJ0Mc/v-deo.html
btw, if you want more "mixer preamp-y" distortion than just serumfx or an ableton saturator, i find Airwindows BussColors4 works really well. its open source, too! www.airwindows.com/busscolors-4/
@infoslinger it's pretty clear what they're doing: filter, distort, eq, resample, repeat. same tech people have been using for 20 years. you can prove this yourself with the right distortion (like busscolors). how exactly you configure the filters is up to you (as long as you have some sort of morph weirdness going on). obvs there are other fx being used at points but the principle is always the same
Emu 6400 and rack mounts proper authentic way ! I don’t know if it is age thing or I only buy and dj with vinyl but the newer way of producing sounds a little too crisp and thin and when you add compression to digital releases it just doesn't have the same desired warmth and analogue feel I like !!! But I am not against it if that’s what others prefer!!!! Just all those 94 -99 tracks had such a great sound with the gear they used to make it on and the fact it was all 99% vinyl back then !!!
What an awesome bday present. I’ll just assume this was for me specifically and I will hear no more on the matter haha!! Big up, the Stranjah!!
Nice one bro. Great vid. Enjoyed it.
Mate, you are a legend
thx man!
Those snares sounded pretty good!
I know that i probably commented on this video before, but i started remaking it myself. Recreating the bass from scratch with Serum and applying pretty much the same effect chain. It sound great!
You’ve done it again chief! 🦠 🦠 🦠
You have given so much already and keep on giving. Thank you so much. Loads of fun with this one.
Well this is lovely! 🏆🏆
bigup!
God tier tutorial here, big up Stranjah!
Spot on,,, 🍻👏👏👏
thank you
I freaking love you bro, these tutorials are complete game changers for real... thank you brother, you the man ;)
Man that intro is too good
Such a good recreation of a huge tune.
The intro animation was cool af.
omg thnks lol imma gonna learn this one and turn it up with some different versions/effects
Dozer is probably my favourite. Bacteria like all their work from that period is the sound of the EMU, the chorus and flange effects are quite special. Also, everyone says it was the z plane filters but i read an optical quote where he said he never used them, just the low and high pass
Dozer rules!
Hey @STRANJAH good news! Im out of producers block!! You were right about waiting it out and thank you for that.
Glad to hear that. It’s a rewarding feeling when it comes back!
@@STRANJAH yep it sure is
Amazing man! Great fx rack!
Yeaah! Finish this remix off and I will buy it :)
Wow, to think it was all in the processing! The base sound, was actually a sample!? Who would have thought! It goes to show, that with heavy effects, you can accomplish a lot!
@infoslinger Find it and post please! I still have my E-MU E5000 with R-FX card!
Wormhole....absolute banger.
Best intro yet! Reminds me of the last stage in a game called REZ
This was so great. One of my all-time favorite tracks.
DUDE! Excellent job! Keep it up! You are super talented.
Amazing work man. I see your tutors every day
Thank you man!
Nice deconstruction. My fav Ed & Opt track has to be The Medicine. That second drop bassline is ridiculous.
You make the best Tutorials Stranjah ...Really
I really enjoyed this one, thanks for doing this classic tune
Big up
Glad you enjoyed it
Wicked. Nice one.
This was so dope! One of my most played records. Just bought a new minty copy because my o.g that’s be rinsed for two decades has some battle wear!
My copy too rinsed the hell out of it
You really help me with making drum and bass keep it up man 🔥💪🏼
This is one of my favourites.. to many to chose but we want your soul Ed rush & optical mix is another banger. Nice work Stranjah!!
nice one!
Absoluty awesome... got it on Vinyl... never gets old
This is awesome, one of my favorite tunes growing up and that nasal reese was always the sound that moved tracks for me. Great vid stranjah !!
this is sick, I've always wanted to try that older neuro/tech step style, gunna have to give it a shot
Let me know how your result came out!
Resurrection with Ryme Tyme has always been one of my faves from them as well as Socom.
I really like Bullit, pure funky dnb
Hi Stranjah, loving ALL your tutorials. Really helping me out with Ableton. Favourite track is definitely the flipside 'Gas Mask'
Wow. You are a genius!
Fav intro I’ve seen of yours so far 😂
Lifecycle remix is 1 of my favourites. so many to choose from
Amazing job once again! hat doffed
Flightpath from 'The Creeps' has always been a fav of mine. Seem to get lost in all the call and response. Has such a driving energy too it also.
I miss that Ed Rush & Optical... That late 90s/00s shit... takes it baaaaack
Awesome 👌
Sounds excellent! Love your video's, keep it up!
Favourites either Slip Thru or Alien Girl.
MY HERO!!
cheers!
nice one man. really close to the og tune
Another wkd Video keep it up man
Appreciate it!
My man!
Another mindblowing video, brings back lots of memories.
My favorite Ed Rush & Optical tunes is a unnamed dub from thier Jungle Funk set at Turbo( 1998, I believe ). I haven't been able to ask them about it and no one has ever been able to identify it.
It has thier sound, so I believe it's one of thier tunes and it's a banger.
Have u got a clip or any parts of the track you remember. Maybe we can ID?
@@codeinehq Funny enough I was gonna post a clip. I looked for the set on UA-cam, found it and it had a track listing. Thankfully it was time stamped. I went to the track I thought it would be and it was it.
Decorum - In Sanity - Liftin' Spirts Records - 1999.
Finally after over 20 years of searching. 🙌
ua-cam.com/video/5oP6ATkuDG0/v-deo.html
Brilliant as always. So insightful. Always makde so simple to understand. (ps. 'Flan' like 'man')
big tune!!!!!!!
Yesss bigup Maurice!!
Can't believe that was a sample :D Wicked as always, cheers
Stranjah cracks that dnb tune you love code and recreates every formula/process saga continuing on in top shelf fashion once again, another great tutorial nice work homie!
Oh and I just bought that snare pack with your promo code so so dope thanks again!
Nice video! Bacteria was a huge track back in the late 90’s I always remember grabbing this from hard to find records and thinking how different it was it certainly pushed the scenes boundaries, it will always be one of those tracks that push the genre. I used to drop this in regular sets up & down the UK and was always in the record bag! Big tune will always stand the test of time also Bacteria was the B side Gas Mask was the A side 🤷🏻♂️
I love these re-makes of older tune videos. Sure sound design is fun but there is nothing more nostalgic than taking the production approach of writing with mostly, if not all, using just samples. This video also shows you how you can use the exact same samples/breaks and come up with a slightly different result even when trying to sound as close as possible. I wonder who else has flipped this portion of sampled bass into a song noteworthy song?
Disintegrator - Disintegrated: ua-cam.com/video/3gmTMxDRhDg/v-deo.html
all these years later, it still seems impossible to recreate the steamy, poisoned, irresistible atmospheric richness and the funk of the originals that makes your head nod so hard.. yet that is what made them special
Man this is soooooo sick! That thumps down has to be Ed Rush shitting himself that you have smashed this @Stranjah hahaha
Cool vidéo !
I use kind of the same rack on fl studio with patcher. I like to put the amp (Poulin free ones) after the band pass and a comb filter (from Kilohearts) instead of flanger+phaser.
Would love to hear your result!
@@STRANJAH I don't know if you allow it but here is a track in which most basses have that rack applied. Some basses are reeses others are made of fm synthesis : soundcloud.com/grave-recs/izo-flight-natural-temple
I also recorded a walktrough of that track but it's in french.
thanxxx Stranja!! Its one of my Favorits too
Sick tutorial, id def run the bass sound through something outboard to give it a touch more bite like the original, you got it almost spot on. Fave ed rush and optical tracks, theres so many to choose "Cutslo" "Sicknote" and "Wormhole"
Cutslo (Lokuste Remix) is 🔥🔥🔥
Wow you nailed it mate, sick 🤮🤮🤮
Another absolutely phenomenal intro. Edited typo
Glad you like it!
Ed Rush, Optical & Fierce - Cutslo (Lokuste Mix)
Great channel!! ♥️
glad to see you touched on this! fukin banger this is. any chance on getting a vid on teebee style bass? i feel like black science labs would be a natural sequel to this.
will see, had a couple people request teebee :)
I really like The End Pt. 2
mothership is such a steamin track
Fav track from Ed rush and optical would have to be chubrub. That track is fun to mix too,
Sick note is my fav Ed Rush and Optical tune. Epic. Please could you try to recreate this in Serum please 🤞
Love Sick Note will see!
wow. @stranjah nailed it... but the emu e6400 ultra Preset Chorus setting for the flanger (not the FX) is my guess for the OG flange effect...
That might be it!
Serious dopeness here! Thanks a bunch for the knowledge!
I've never been a fan of ableton's flanger, TAL has a pretty good free one, I prefer its sounds by far.
I will have to check that out!
TAL fanger, now that takes me back a few years, very basic but it does the job tbh
Alien girl, my favourite Ed rush and optical
It’s by Fortran 😉
@@Strafuzz the Ed rush, optical and fierce track, yeah?
@@mikerichmond2593 yes bro!
@@Strafuzz ah just googled, that’s who fierce was / is?
@@mikerichmond2593 yeah all three of them bruv
Love the intro ahahhaha
Never realized they sampled Disintegrator! I have that record. Industrial Strength Records.
choon
Thanx again. Wormhole was a real kick in da face at the time. Still in love with "Alien Girl" (not in this LP i know).
Favorite? The Creeps. I loved them already as solo acts, but that tune was the beginning of the duo, way before Wormhole.
Are you saying creeps was released before wormhole??? Because wormhole was released way before creeps sure it was 2001 !!! And wormhole was 97/98 ish !!!
@@RobertMunro-wb6jb I´said "my favorite", and my beginings.
Hey another tune from that era that I'd love to hear you have a go at the bass on is Parasite by Dom & Roland. Cheers.
Thx will consider
Chubrub is one dope track
got that industrial strength vinyl
FAVORITE ED RUSH & OPTICAL track: ...I was typing this before you finnished asking the question ... PACMAN! (BUT THEY HAVE MILLIONS - THEY ARE TRUELY GREAT)
Big up man! One of my favourite from my teenage years, kinda surprised me the bass is sample tho :D
Alien Girl for sure with Sicknote not far behind. Nice video. Hey, I downloaded the preset but it says it’s probably broken, any ideas?
Just found the channel! Wtf! Of course I got here from the Bacteria tutorial during a pandemic.
