  • Learn how to inspect your can seams using these manual seam tear-down methods. Regularly inspecting seam quality is critical in protecting your canned beverage quality and shelf life.
Seam integrity needs to be checked daily during use of any canning system. Your seam evaluation process should include multiple testing procedures and measurements.
This video demonstrates two Manual Seam Tear-Down inspection procedures. Important components of the double seam can only be inspected by “tearing down” the seam.
    TOOLS NEEDED
    - Standard side cutters
    - Modified can opener (included with Wild Goose canning lines)
    - Seam micrometer (An instrument that accurately measures the width, height and length of double seam components)
Once you have completed the seam tear-down process, refer to your can lid manufacturer’s double seam specifications to ensure your seams are within spec.

Wait, how did you modify that can opener? It looks like you took a Dremel and sliced a thin channel across the plastic on either side of the cutting wheel?
