Generally speaking, YES - professional photography is dead, unless you're a photojournalist or a fine arts, high end portrait photographer. It's even rather hard to get good steady work as a wedding photographer.
Indeed, I always think maybe if I get the new version of my current devices it will be better but later I just see I am not even using the current ones and most of the time 2 or 3 lenses can handle my job 🫤 but being in the middle in this market is frustrating! I really can't downgrade myself and accept any projects to work on, and my equipments are not that high end or flashing to go for the projects I dream of !
I only upgrade or buy new gear now for my business that's it. If I do buy something now for myself its something that is small. For example I shoot M43. I bring three cameras to a wedding. Even if my gear gets stolen at a wedding I still have enough gear at home to cover myself if I have a wedding the next day. If I went full frame I need to buy three bodies and the f2.8 zooms and some primes and new batteries and new memory cards. Its not cheap. So if I do buy a full frame its going to be maybe one body and a 24-105 and maybe one or two lens. Maybe I'll bring it as a extra at a wedding. Also I just watch videos for fun. I'm over get this camera and lens. Sometimes gas kicks if I watch a video and go on Ebay. But over all its over.
Well you have made a correct decision considering your job and the demand of your clients. As far as you have your market demand and the clients are satisfied and happy with the result then you are doing great, the problem happens when the competitors with better results or new things come around with attractive offers and on that time you may start thinking like me, to get upgraded or keep your tools and downgrade your job or your prices to keep your clients. That's so frustrating sometimes!
@@masterpieceshots Have you thought about getting into wedding photography or family portraits or pet photography? One photographer I was watching she said she's had clients for longer then 20 years. Engagement shoot First job. Wedding the second job, maternity shoot third job, baby photos forth job, family photos sometimes every years fifth job, senior portraits sixth job.
I think you will get to a point where clients will call you for YOUR talent and style, and not for your equipment. No matter what equipment you'll have, there will always be something "better", so you have to shift your target. You're not selling your equipment, you're selling you as an artist. Equipment doesn't matter (too much !). Plus, almost nobody owns super high end cinema cameras. If you want Panavision you can only rent them. 99% of the time Red or Arri stuff is rented. So...
Hey there, thanks a lot for your supportive response. Yes, you are right. I got the same feeling, and I also decided to upgrade some of my equipment and go on with my chosen path 🙏
@@masterpieceshots if I were you and you really want to upgrade anything here's what I would do : - keep the Fuji setup, it's a great hybrid solution with a distinctive "look" - sell both Sony and Canon, great cameras but everybody has one of the two, or both, so it doesn't help you to stay out of the crowd 😄 - get a Hasselblad X2D 100C for photos (Fuji GFX would be an alternative, but at that point I'd go fully Hasselblad) For video you have a couple alternatives : - a Blackmagic body (6k), with some of them using the EF mount so you could keep your Canon lenses - wait for the Fuji GFX Eterna (but expect it to be very expensive) - wait for a possible Nikon cinema camera with RED sensor (you know Nikon bought RED recently) Let us know how you decided to upgrade !
@@stevegalante you're basically suggesting selling the two most reliable systems "Canon and Sony" to get the least reliable hasselblad and the second least reliable fuji. Interesting
For viewers: when a yt “ creator” asks you something, they don’t really need your opinion, just an interaction for their content so the algorithm push their videos to more people, rsulting in more views and eventually more money for them. However, being a PROFESSIONAL photographer and to ask NORMAL people if you need to upgrade is a very subtle clue that you don’t know a thing about your presumptive work
I don't think you should upgrade. If you really have to upgrade I would just invest in a new Canon body that shoots raw I think Canon makes a crop sensor one and a full frame body like the C70. You're good looking why not do some swimsuit photoshoot or boudoir shoots and shoot some models and review your gear. Trust me the boys will watch.
Thanks for your comment, but I am not really after making money that much to take off the clothes and attract attention 😅 my passion is bringing myself higher in the field of photography or videography in the market but maybe I am lost and don't know what the key should be to win!
Thanks for your explain about your experience and life style

And I believe it has happened for the photographers standing in the middle between low and normal quality and high-end quality 👌
The more exposed we are to social media where products are pushed our ways on UA-cam the more we want them. I'm in the same boat and it is a disease

Yes its dead! Many professional photographers are now youtubers, which perhaps explains the saturated content available.
Exactly and it's so pitiful 🫤
