    This version of Shogun is amazing. Far better than the first. I have read the series of books 3 times. As great as this version is, it is impossible to capture the greatness of the books because so much of the awesomeness is the inner dialogues of the characters.

    This scene is how I knew I would love this show…
    And I did.

    As I never watched the original, I cant comment, but I am enjoying this series very much.

      The book this series is based on is good, but very very long, like 1000+ pages. This show is good though, I think it's doing a good job taking the best parts of the book and condensing it.

      I find this version way better, talking special effects and CGI, but the acting is equally amazing in both versions, even though i prefer Hiroyuki Sanada as Toranaga.

    The "pilot" of the Erasmus was named William Adams, and Toranaga was named Tokugawa Ieyasu, one of the most famous shoguns in Japanese history. Why did they change their names?

    • @TheBakedPug2
      @TheBakedPug2 3 місяці тому +26

      Probably because it's historical fiction instead of a nonfiction retelling of the real story of William Adams. Kind of like the movie Casino, all the characters are based on real people, but all their names have been changed.

      @TheBakedPug2 all of these people have died 300 years before the shogun book

      It's fiction, loosely based on real history events. Some country laws would not allow you to use real people name without their consent and profitable from it. So this is one way to get away with it.

      @cariopuppetmaster well yeah, but what does that have to do with anything? All I'm saying is that it would be silly to use the real names for fictional characters. It's like that movie where Abraham Linvoln is a vampire hunter, it's just stupid.

    Shogun history in Japan is fascinating not just in Japan but also in Korea & China(Shoguns tried to invade both multiple times).

    One really has to wonder why they didn't just re-release the original in an upgraded digital form. Instead, they spend millions making a remake and remakes seldom meet up to the expectation for those who have seen the original.

      The Japanese hate the original, especially those who studies their own history in Sengoku period 😂

      @@thomasjuniardi3559 It's a remake of a series based on a book based on a fictional account. James Clavell spent a lot of time in that part of the world and tends to get things right in his books. Maybe the Japanese don't like it because it paints them as who they really were at that time and it wasn't all that attractive. Next thing you know, some woke twit will be unhappy about the portrayal of the Japanese during the second world war, and they will do remakes of all the movies so as to tidy it up for Japanese consumption.......

      They ain't complaining about the storyline, they had problem with the lack of authenticity in the original series. And yes, that includes all the bad thing their ancestor had done like how them treating christian and how they deal with foreigner/outsider. This new series producer are Japanese, he show Us what really happened in 1700 feudal Japan including its horror 🤣
