The reason why she turn off the gravity in the acid blood scene is established earlier by Rook. They are in the lower level of the space station and if she gets acid on the floor, she whole section would decompress and that would kill them.

I was never bored while watching Romulus.
I liked the plot and the practical effects and a few of the characters.
But all the nostalgia had me rolling my eyes after a while.
For a movie that took place before Aliens onward they really had many callbacks to films that came afterward.

Andy, a non-human, was the best character in it.

I liked the review and thought I would leave my take. I was firmly on team hate. So why...
The film was beautifully shot and Andy and Rain were acted with perfection the older English guy was good too. The atmosphere the world building the sets the monsters everything looked great. The issues however...
    1. The other characters were immensely dislikable and did incredibly dumb stuff. (not out of place for horror but Alien films usually have competent people which amplifies how dangerous the xeno is)
    2. Plot armour on the main character to unreasonable level which again degrades the deadliness of the Alien . (She was in "the hive" with Andy on the floor without get attacked)
    3. Ash/rook could have just been a silhouette you knew it was Ian Holm from the side profile and voice.
    4. The growth time the slow burn ruined by the alien going from implant to fully grown in like 15 mins was so stupid and ruined cannon.
    5. The fact the black goo and engineer came back.
    6. Why did she give the black goo sample to the pregnant girl after evil Andy was gone. Go save Andy sure but through that crap away don't give it to the girl to escape with. Made no sense. Even more so why would she inject herself with it she was told no and has no idea what it is.
    7. The alien saving her in the elevator shaft (absolute madness, I get "Oh there was a facegugger there to cocoon her" no not when she's a threat is actively going to die and there are clearly lots of Aliens so breeding isn't vital. ( Baby thing was kind of in bad taste but I do respect the push the Bounderies thing however it wasn't so much a human as it was promethous engineer/xeno/human.
    8. That line...Get away from her you... I cant believe they used it the way they did. It's one of the most important lines in female lead history and had a reason from Ripley lost child to nurturing newt to fighting the alien queen over her eggs to defending her human child against the queen. It all makes sense and that line didn't.
For me I was literally dumbfounded and walked out of the theater in shear shock. Points 1 to 3 fine still a good film but points 4 to 8 were so sacrilegious it just wrecked the whole thing. It was a lot like watching star wars episode 8 to me where I watched a beloved franchise be degraded and ruined in front of me.
Romulus in my eyes was awful because of that.
Longlegs was absolutely unreal though genuinely the best horror film i have seen since the shining it blew my mind. So i dont think your intuition is off.
    Thank you for reading.

I'm surprised that the pregnancy took people off guard after the impregnation in Prometheus. I felt like in Prometheus it was more horrifying as well, but I still enjoyed that part of Romulus regardless of that (very fun, very bonkers). I was really hyped for Romulus, especially after all the opening night buzz. It ended up being a 3/5 for me - enjoyable, but I'd rank it after Alien, Aliens, Prometheus, and Covenant. If another sequel comes down the line I'll look forward to it either way! Would loveeee to see more of Andy - what a delightful performance and character.

Your last comment about the acid blood scene is interesting. They do turn the gravity on later and u see exactly y they didn’t do that. Andy mentioned prior tht they were near the bottom of the ship and it would eat through the hull and depressurize that portion of the ship…which is exactly what happens. My friends and I had a bigger scientific and logic issue with the face hugger hallway where they turned the heat up ”don’t sweat in this 98 degree hallway” also as soon as they opened door the heat would rush out of the room so that was a bit funny. I do agree with you I loved it overall and my god that third act is terrifying

The characters are well written, the acting is great, the pacing between action and horror is perfection and makes the entire series cohesive by using plot points from Prometheus Covenant and the original movie.

Whats interesting this being a horror channel , a lot of horror fans really like this movie . I am an alien super fan who had watched all the movies multiple times, and into the background of the xenomorphs and lore including the prequels . I really liked this movie as it brought back the horror elements in alien and aliens back . However i know some alien fans who hate this movie as basically pure nostalgia bait , which even though there are nods to this , its a movie of its own

I really loved this movie, 4/5 for me as well! Andy stole the show, but the pregnant character had an insane performance, too!
All of the actors gave their all, the horror was incredible, the return to the roots of Alien with the pregnancy and sexual assault metaphors was refreshing, and hell yeah! I loved it!
The Alien franchise has always been closely attached to those themes since the very beginning, hence the Xenomorph designs, the facehuggers forcefully impregnating a human host, the c-section scene in Prometheus, and now the pregnancy scene in this film! As a lover of this franchise, I was very impressed and pleased to see those themes return full force!

Two major sins in my book are committed here. Very little to no backstory for any character in this film and the backstory we do get is all tell no show. Visually stunning and great directing but how am I supposed to care if a character lives or dies when i literally know nothing other than “She’s pregnant”, “They clearly used to date”.. ok who’s the baby daddy…??? “Some asshole”… ok why did they break up? How long have they been broken up??? Literally no answer. It feels like this is a second movie to a first movie we never got? This feels like the horror movie version of The Marvels.

Don't feel guilty! Alien 3 was in fact a rather good film, just suffers from the fact that is comes after 2 what is considered the best sci fi horror movie of all time and the best action overall movie of all time. Also, Alien 3 is very dark.....VERY dark. And no spoilers, but I think what they did very early on in the film probably didn't sit well with the audience, especially since coming from Aliens........makes all of what happens in Aliens meaningless to them but.....I didn't mind the dark tone.
Romulus for me was amazing, loved it. In fact just saw it second time today. 9/10, officially second best Alien movie behind obviously Alien/Aliens. Alien 3 was my second but this movie moves ahead of it. Glad you loved the last 15 minutes, I absolutely loved what they did. I know for some it didn't hit well but to me I loved it. The body horror was just amazing. Not sure if you are a dead space fan, but this film to me was the director just asking a studio to give him a chance with dead space because he puts many nods of dead space in this.
Glad you enjoyed the film, Congrats to the director and the actors/actresses. We have been deserving of a good Alien film for so long, I thought at one point it was done and futile. This team has now proven me wrong, I'm just so happy. 9/10 for me.

Especially the quiet scene in the hallway. That was nightmare fuel for me! I also really enjoyed that the characters all had connections with each other, which make the stakes higher for me than if they were just strangers on a mission. I'd say that this is my 2nd favorite movie in the franchise, after the original! I'm definitely going to add it to my collection.

AI Rook was a travesty, and if that was supposed to be fan service I feel like most fans are actually more pissed about it than excited to see him again. But yeah, I feel like those two aspects really made/broke the film. If Rook wasn't in it it would've been a 5 star for me, if THAT SCENE wasn't in it it would've been a 3/3.5. Loved it so much.
