This video shows beautifully how the application of stamped textures creates the illusion of deep, layered texture. It's hard to imagine a time when stamping, printed text, faux wood grain, textural inclusions and collage elements were seen as experimental, when artists like Georges Braque and Hannah Höch introduced them. Now, those techniques are considered essential skills!
This was an excellent tutorial! I learned so much this time. I like all of your videos because you give so much information. What made this one stand out to me, was by doing the voiceover, you don’t have the distraction of executing the art piece. You are able to stand back and tell us what you are thinking and how you make your decisions. Plus, highly informative about subject matter, juxtaposition of texture and design. You communicate clearly and distinctly. I feel like I’m at an art class in college! What a gift of talent, knowledge and the “gift of gab” that keeps it interesting! Well done! Thank you for all of your hard work to bring this to us!❤️
I definitely like these kind of videos and I love the butterfly painting! There's something that just about everyone can take away from this kind of video, and apply it to their own type of art. ❤️
I love the longer tutorial videos. I'm a wannabe artist. I relax and paint with tutorials instead of doing my own thing. Maybe someday I'll feel brave enough to try things alone, but not right now. Thank you for sharing this.
Oh Lindsay! I love this video SO much! I've been primarily a watercolourist for 30 years but strayed over to mixed media a few years ago because I wanted more layers and collage effects. But, my heart ached for watercolour so this gave me much inspiration, and relief; acrylics and dyes and inks and adhesives are so messy for me in my cramped little office/painting room, adding stress to what has always been a joyful process. I've made two creations inspired by this in the last 10 days; they not only made my heart sing but added an optimism to my work that hasn't been there for a long time. Much gratitude...thank you.
This is such a lovely piece, Lindsay! Thank you for sharing with us :) I hope you enjoyed the paints! Da Vinci watercolors are primarily vegan (unless the pigment itself would deem it otherwise) so you're correct that there's no oxgall in them. Also, I hear ya! Cerulean is a favorite of mine, and Da Vinci does offer one, but this palette was made specifically to avoid heavy metals so the hue was included instead. Cerulean Genuine is in both of my other palettes :) Thanks for giving them a try!
Thanks so much for adding the narration Lindsay. It's great to see your thought process while doing a fun and relaxing project. I love the use of mixed mediums. It's beautiful!
The credit card trick for those dark lines is brilliant! Thank you so much for demonstrating this... I've struggled to get precise enough lines that are just the right look for butterflies.
Hello, Nice to meet you, Dear Lindsay! I think that your drawings are most beautiful! And Your crafts are very most beautiful! And I always thank you for your videos and crafts and others! To dear Lindsay!🧡!❤!
Yes, metallics! I'm like a ferret, love all sparkly things. This is so pretty. Love longer and short videos . Don't have time for 3 or 4 one hour-ish videos in a week. An hour-ish once a week along with 2 or 3 shorter videos would be awesome. Even an hour-ish every other week. I'm in Critique Club so have access to the longer videos whenever it's convenient. Hope this helps. There's a problem that a couple of us talked about. There's tons of beginner stuff and not very many Intermediate. So it's hard to find the step after beginner but not quite good enough for advanced. Hope that makes sense. TFS❤❤❤
I do. like this real time tutorial. For me it seems like you have a good flow with the voice over and you are able to give a lot of information. All of your tutorials are very easy to understand and follow.
Loved the video and 45-60 minutes is great. I enjoy your thought process along with evaluations of the products you are using and the reasoning behind what you use. I always learn from your videos and I'm encouraged to experiment. I'm recovering from a couple of injuries and get very absorbed in my mini art projects trying some of your techniques. So, thank you for sharing. Keep up the beautiful work you do and share.
I found this video very informative. The length was fine offering lots of information. I particularly liked the close ups of you actually working. I really don't need to see the supplies. I guess it is the technique and application that is of most interest to me. I learned a lot today. Thank you.
You are so talented!!! I love watching you work and create your art pieces. And I’m impressed that you can speak through your thought process so well. Truly an inspiration!
Of all the paintings I've seen you paint, this is by far my favorite. Blue Morpho butterflies are my favorite and if you've never seen the back of one, it's browns and blacks and you'd never know the underside is this beautiful. Thanks for sharing these techniques, they were so much fun to watch. Sandy
I've never thought of stamping over watercolor. Thanks for the idea. I know you've probably done it before, this time it just really caught my eye. Thanks Lindsay!
The world needs more Lindsay, please do more painting videos if you can. I desperately miss your Friday Lives, I am sure others do too. Maybe every other Friday lives?😁 or not scheduled regularly just whenever you want. Also, wetting both sides is the best. I actually curl up the paper and dunk it all in a large container of water, Pull it out and then lay it on my plastic core backing to paint on. It sticks great and stays flat. Almost as if you are going to stretch the paper but I don’t soak it, just a quick dunk. Happy Painting!
Thank you Lindsay. You have the Midas touch ! Love this tutorial. I learned quite a bit. And would love to see these longer tutorials when you feel like it. Have a great weekend! ❤
Looking good! It all goes perfectly together. And mixed media is just the best! I had a bit of a rocky start into it though: When I was a kid, like 5 maybe, my brother, who had all the right information of course, told me that only babies mix their felt-tips, crayons, pencils and so on together, and that school aged kids draw neatly with just one type of supply on each picture. 😂 I was really mindful not to mix anything again for a few years but thankfully I eventually dared find my inner baby again. So much more fun! 😅
An awesome tutorial video, Lindsay! It has a lot of great tips. I enjoyed it very much. The painting is beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing it. I like real time videos very much.
I love your longer videos You always provide so much information, tips, knowledge and not just a step by step tutorial. Thanks for that Lindsay. I love this piece a lot!
Hi Lindsey! This was awesome. I love art journaling and this had that kind of vibe. There are so few on here that are doing mixed media now, they’ve moved on to using stickers or bullet journaling or making their own planners. This was right up my alley, and the end result is beautiful. I like the longer format, done in real time. My brain works too slow for the shorter ones. I end up having to watch multiple times to get the techniques.
I'm a fan of your longer videos -- please do more! There's nothing better than a video with a wealth of techniques, done in real time, by an artist who's all about process. Thank you for this!
This is so lovely! I am sorry to have missed it. I will replay it tomorrow, after SatChat! An afternoon full of colourful goodness! Thanks a lot, Lindsay!
I love this type of approach because knowing what drives thinking and decision making in the creative process is where the learning occurs. I appreciate your clarity and generosity in these presentations. Thank you!
I really enjoyed this video. The real time allows me to see and understand what you're doing, and the time on each step keeps it to a good overall time. One of my goals this year is to practice and have fun with watercolor. Thank you again for the reminder about the sale on your Critique Club classes- I just got the 2022 archive. Yay! I appreciate you being so generous with these sales; being on a very fixed budget, the sale allows me to splurge on this where I otherwise couldn't afford to. These are fantastic courses and I recommend them to anyone who's interested in learning watercolor and other art mediums. Thank you!
I love your longer videos. Mixed media is something I have only dabbled in. Now that I have a greater variety of supplies, I am excited about doing more mixed media. Thanks so much for showing how you do your layers. Still learning what works on top of what. Thanks you so much for sharing this Lindsay.
This was not boring at all! I was mesmerized with all the techniques right up to the end. I think I miss how the artist is actually doing what they are doing when it is speeded up.
Hey Lindsay! I've always been a fan of your longer, more relaxed videos, especially this mixed media piece. Very cool, very "white noise" viewing. :) Fanna Turano
More Squoosh !! Love it. Really enjoyed the video. The artwork came out wonderfully. The relaxed style helped to remind me how much I need to relax when doing your Teachable classes. It’s just me and you, no time constraints, and I can repeat the class unlimited times. So fun . Really, really enjoyed this. 😊
I enjoy the longer videos Lindsay! Thanks so much for releasing them to us that we may have the opportunity to learn from such a skilled, knowledgeable, and experienced instructor in this accessible to all format. Happy weekend!
Wow I learned so much! I feel so lucky that I had the time to watch this video today! I absolutely adored the artwork. I think he's longer-form educational videos are superior.
Thank you for this! I've had a watercolour set I was too intimidated by to use but was so inspired by this I just had to give it a go! I'm kind of proud of what I've accomplished and I learned so much from following you along with this project! The most important takeaway is that I am no longer intimidated by my art supplies and even incorporated some old supplies I hadn't used in years! Thank you, Lindsay, for helping me get over my intimidation and allowing me to have the freedom to have fun!
I am rewatching this as I paint along. I enjoyed the real time long format, it helps me paint along. Surprised to know the algorithm doesn't like this format so much. if people rewatch it to paint along, it may add more views! ;-) Fabulous colours here. It almost looks metallic, like real butterflies.
I love these longer videos Lindsay. I am just now getting into art journaling after many years of just being a regular sketchbook artist or switching to painting on canvases or watercolor paper. I’m very excited to combine everything together as well as journaling to help me process some of my emotions or even just a long days work. I work at a clinic dealing with kids who are autistic or on the spectrum so sometimes I just need some much needed self care. Thank you for everything you do! ❤🫶🏻
Hi Lindsay, thank you for the long tutorial. I've always loved your long videos in fact that is one reason why I signed up for the critique club. I really appreciate when you do a long YT video because I know you take a hit from it. I will always give you a like and a comment though to help. I wish I could spread it but I have not one to spread it too (I know, I'm pitiful!). Thank you for all you do. God Bless
Love this butterfly, background is stunning. Gosh each time I see you use stamps I think I will so do this but always chicken out, this time I’m so going to especially the bubble spots love this effect. Have a great weekend, thank you for the awesome video must be of gotta go draw a butterfly aww we have monarch butterflies will do one of these gotta love summer.
I always enjoy your longer, real time videos! Also thank you for the explanation of the mixed media background techniques, I find a lot of "mixed media art" videos just show what they do but don't explain why.
That's funny what you said about cutting up the cards. I cut mine up and throw them away in different trash cans and at different times because I'm also a bit paranoid lol I figure, if you've gone through three or four bags of trash to get all the info, you've put in the effort for the reward and I need to do a better job throwing them out lol This painting is gorgeous!
The word is pronounced "foo-dah-NO-skay." The pronunciation is counterintuitive for native English speakers because it looks like there are five syllables when there are only four. These particular Tombow pens were some of the original darlings of the hand lettering hobbyists, especially for bullet journaling. I adore this artwork. Thank you for the tips on how to do this type of collaging. It’s amazing (to me, anyway) how this technique can so easily go from looking deliberate and cohesive to looking like a hot mess of a mistake. Also, I do very much appreciate this type of real time instruction. Sped-up videos are fun to watch but there are many important factors that are missed and necessary for someone attempting to recreate the piece or are learning the technique.
I have the original 50 macarons by Brutfuner pencils and my friend has the 50 set in the zippered case an they are the same pencils but some name's are completely different than the original 50 macarons of Brutfuner pencils.. we put them in order together an that's when we found the difference.. TFS Sweetie 🥰🥰🥰
That turned out so beautifully. I loved watching the longer video to see the process through the steps. I think I stop too soon without the finishing enhancements. This was a great eye-opener.
This is so beautiful Lindsay. I love creating backgrounds in my art journal so I think I may give this a try! You have used so many techniques in this mix media painting...many techniques that I haven't used yet. You're the best, thanks so much!
I was waiting for the 2022 Critique Club sale. Thanks!!!! This gives me the freedom to do the projects on my schedule and based on mood. 💕 that freedom!
Love love your Painting and this style of video, so i can learn more without pressure and this one... Watching you, i would dare to try myself, so don't make the image more difficult 😉😋😘, great tips, thx so much!!
Thank you for this wonderful video!!! I am blown away with the knowledge contained in this one video. You are a gifted teacher. I have followed you for years and love to watch you paint; but when your tutorials are mixed media I am so thrilled.. I have painted for years and have always included mix media in my painting. This was before I knew the term mixed media. I don't comment often as it is difficult for me to type at my age; but I will never stop painting

I definitely like these kind of videos and I love the butterfly painting! There's something that just about everyone can take away from this kind of video, and apply it to their own type of art. ❤️
I'm so glad!
Love these videos where you show us how to create such beauty. I did not find it too long and there definitely were NO boring spots.
Thank you so much!
I love how you do real-time paintings as it is easier for me to track what you're doing as you paint it.
I love the longer tutorial videos. I'm a wannabe artist. I relax and paint with tutorials instead of doing my own thing. Maybe someday I'll feel brave enough to try things alone, but not right now. Thank you for sharing this.
You are an artist, you’re just practicing.

That newspaper kind of stamp idea is genius! 😍
Right?!

I love real time videos. When I get my life together I plan to join Critique Club so I can try the longer tutorials.
I do love the longer videos. But I'll watch the short too. Love the painting/stamping creations.
Wow ‼️ so much great information here ❤️
Glad it was helpful!
I enjoy. It’s us hanging together. Like ur sat chats
Thanks!
So glad you posted this. I am home sick with a cold and my FT job is in chaos, but I have your inspiration to make my day.
Feel better!
I love long lasting video's but i adore matching watercolor painting for the focal point along with mixed media!!!! ❤️❤️❤️👋👋👋👋👋👋👋
I totally agree!

I like all your videos. I do especially like the longer ones with explanations
Thank you, Lindsay! Really enjoyed it!
I love the beautiful bright colors! That turned out so different from what I imagined it would be in the beginning, but it’s perfect!
Thank you so much!
Great texture and colour Lindsay, loved your tutorial!
Thanks so much! 😊

I love your long watercolor or mixed media videos!
Glad you like them!
I always enjoy your longer, real time videos! Also thank you for the explanation of the mixed media background techniques, I find a lot of "mixed media art" videos just show what they do but don't explain why.
Thank you Lindsay, I love your longer-length process videos! These are the ones that I go back and try to create myself.
Glad you like them!
This is gorgeous! Love to watch you work and see it come alive. Thanks Lindsay for your inspiration!
That's funny what you said about cutting up the cards. I cut mine up and throw them away in different trash cans and at different times because I'm also a bit paranoid lol I figure, if you've gone through three or four bags of trash to get all the info, you've put in the effort for the reward and I need to do a better job throwing them out lol
This painting is gorgeous!
I feel seen! 😆
I love the longer real time videos!
When I first saw this I could have sworn the butterfly was added last and possibly cut out and placed on top. It really pops with all your additions.
I like the longer tutorials and will give this one a try. It looked stunning displayed behind you during Sat Chat! Thanks for sharing.
You are so welcome!

I enjoy full tutorial videos. This is a lovely creation, I am partial to blue morpho butterflies 🦋 ❤🦋❤️🦋. I will be creating this butterfly for sure.
Thank you so much!
I sometimes have trouble working out any kind of background for watercolours beyond the basics, so this was invaluable-thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
I enjoyed this very much. I don't do a lot of mixed media - so this was a perfect example for me.
Hope you enjoy it!
Love love your Painting and this style of video, so i can learn more without pressure and this one... Watching you, i would dare to try myself, so don't make the image more difficult 😉😋😘, great tips, thx so much!!
Love the long video, as always! So interesting to follow your mixed media journey. Thanks for everything!
Yay, thank you!
This is such a beautiful painting. Your talent just amazes me.
Thank you so much 😀
Thank you for this wonderful video!!!
SORRY, I started to say, I won't stop painting until I can't. Thanks again and keep painting !
Glad it was helpful!
Gorgeous Lindsay, really striking colouring. Absolutely love all the techniques you used to create this piece. Xx🥰
Thanks so much 😊
This is a very informative video. The detail you shared is great, making the video just right. Not too long or short. Thanks for sharing!
Love the long real time video! It is really helpful to see your work as it happens. Thank you for this option! Love your channel ❤️
You are so welcome!
