it's because the split screen works in a different way. it doesn't actually split the screen in two proportions, but offsets them, giving a less wide, better aspect ratio image. so it's less stretched. they put the hearts there cuz it's an empty, black space there actually, so they use it up well :)

try LAN then split screen also for free online pass look on the back of the user manual on left side of the case open. this worked for me and I didnt by the special edition

+TheSpiral01 They haven't literally put hearts there. It's actually player's emblem displaying, which happens to be a heart by default. So if you edit your emblem, whatever you came up with will show up on the screen. So there's your answer.
+TheSpiral01 The heart is your emblem. The reason it is there is because of screen size. If the screens took up the entire screen, the screens would be stretched and it would look terrible. So instead of having 2 black squares, they decided to add something in the emptiness. It doesn't bother me much .

@@TheSpiral01 They made it like because they wanted both the screens to have 16:9 aspect ratios, for whatever reason.
@@TheSpiral01 Yeah, they should have. The emblems aren't that bad though. You don't even notice it's there after about 10 minutes of playing splitscreen.
