There Will Never EVER Be A Game Like Sea of Thieves Again.
As we celebrate Sea of Thieves' 5th Anniversary, I thought it would be a great idea to make a video on why this game is so incredibly special and why there will never be a game like it again. To a game that has changed my life, I will always be please to be talking about it.

Honestly I love the infinite pirate generator with how it can make each pirate unique but I think the only thing I would "change" about it would be a selection to where you can choose to generate either only male or only female pirates to make the process of finding YOUR pirate a little quicker.

I don’t like the scars, there is only a few different scars which makes a lot of pirates share the same scars. I think if we had the option to exclude scars, missing eyes/teeth would be great.

I was thinking the same! If the idea behind the creator was to make funny characters of different beauty, at least it should allow us to choose neutral starting facts such as gender or skin color ^^ And then - let it be crazy with other features ^^ I think it's funny that after an hour in a creator, you think your character is just perfect and then you later notice that they doesn't have some teeth xD

I may not have been here from the beginning, but in my near two years of playing this game It's never once lost my love. I've met countless people through this world, weather we became friends outside the game or they just impacted my experience sailing it's almost always an unforgettable experience. I can't put into words what this game has done for me, the amount of time I've put in compared to others who've been playing for far longer speaks for itself. Never once will I hear Who Shall not be Returning or We Shall sail together without humming along, never once will I set sail with my crew and not get a laugh out of the session and never will I find another game like this. (Before I ramble out an essay here's to another five years of pirating and this glorious community 🍻)

This. Just started a couple weeks ago. And I already have anxiety about it coming to an end at any point. Probably thee most well running and beautiful game I have ever played. I know I am new and in the honeymoon period but I believe this is my new home. Even after getting my ass whipped just after 3 hours of looting I ain’t even mad. But this is what I have been missing compared to all the other shooters. This game balances everything I enjoy all in one. Long live Sea Of Thieves.

Sea of Thieves has been such a unique experience for me going back 5 years and well over 5000 hours at this point. I'm not tired of it. At all. I've taken breaks here and there for a week, maybe 2. I always come back though. It's pretty much the only game I play regularly. I suppose the biggest reason behind that is that this game has managed to do something for me that not many others have. It's made me feel like a kid again. That kind of magic in any media is hard to come by, and I will continue to love this game for years to come.

I hyperfixated on this game in August of 2022. I played here and there with old friends when it came out but I could never stay and play religiously like I did with other games. That was until I met my best friend whom I'm grateful to refer to as my older brother and set out on a quest to hunt down The Shrouded Ghost on stream to prove it's real. To this day, I'm still documenting and saving every stream as a highlight with over 135 hours (at the time of writing this) in a collection to show how far I've come, from a pirate taking orders and barely knowing how to manage a ship or refusing to dive under the waves because of my thalassophobia.. To a strategic captain who cares for her crew and is willing to help out new pirates get settled rather than turn away because of a Grade 5 Reaper blowing them to bits. This game has done so much for me and I never realized it until watching your video. Sea of Thieves is a game that truly makes me feel free and never tire from or play in phases like I do with Minecraft and ARK Survival Evolved. Discovering the legend of Glitterbeard, tearing up just hearing Becalmed, learning more about the game as time goes on while showering my crewmates in facts. Rare has made a true masterpiece that no other team could top. All the adventures I've had, memories I've shared, even going as far as buying pets to honor my fallen ones so that they are still with me no matter where I go. Even if I told myself I would hang up my coat when I finally find the megalodon that set me on my journey or my main crew retires; the seas would still call to me and I would gladly answer to it. No matter how many times my ship sinks. No matter how frustrated I may get against other pirates. Sea of Thieves will forever feel like home.

My favourite moment in this game was all the way back in year one, during the hungering deep event. Gathering this massive 3 galleon crew onto one ship, carrying the shanty all the way to the bottom corner of the map. N19, iirc. We all got together playing the shanty and it was just such an amazing moment. The legendary battle that ensued brought destruction upon us, but we persevered and killed the hungering one. Truly, my favourite moment from this game.

I’ve been a walking billboard for SoT this winter as I wear my We Shall Sail Together hoodie almost everywhere and when people ask about it, I eagerly encourage them to give it a try! I actually started playing after my husband and son asked me to and got so wrapped up in the lore, characters, design, play style possibilities, community… and have never loved a video game more! This game is truly unique and special in so many ways (many of which you touched on in this vid) and if you’d have told me I’d be this passionate about a game a few years ago I’d have laughed in your face but here I am, fully endorsing and spending way too much time on the Sea of Thieves! 😂 Many people find it special that we play together as a family (even when we’re not in game together, we’re usually in the same room so either way, it’s brought us closer. Who’d have thought?) and it is pretty cool to have something we can all enjoy, play and talk about together, and gifting is a breeze! Just get them something Sea of Thieves! 😅 I have finally found a couple friends in game that I feel comfortable jumping on with whenever and hope that we continue to mesh well and finally become a well oiled machine of a crew. Yes, there are plenty of toxic , salty, pvp sweats but when you do meet some great people, whether it’s one magical session or you find yourself some new friends/crewmates, it’s a truly special thing I’ve never experienced anywhere else. And yes, the music is amazing! My 6 year old falls asleep to Becalmed almost every night and we obviously love We Shall Sail Together… As for the developers, I absolutely know that they care not only about the game but the community’s experience while playing their game and have seen them take requests & critiques into consideration and do everything in their power to give people what they want while still making an awesome gaming experience overall for as many players as possible (you can never please everyone but Rare’s success rate is pretty high). As you said, the views are stunning, the music magical, and when you mix the lore with the sense of community, you’ve got a real winner in my book! May we all sail the Sea of Thieves for many years to come! 🏴‍☠️

I've loved Rare since the days of N64. Rare is one of the few studios that continues to deliver on the same areas of a game, every time. Soundtrack, sound design, and graphics. Yet, every game is always different and always stands out from the others. All of that comes together perfectly in Sea of Thieves. The music alone pulled me in immediately. When "Who Shall Not Be Returning" was released, I was completely speechless when I heard it at the main menu. I'd sit there for 30 minutes every time just listening to it before I'd start playing. Then when they released it on *insert preferred music service here*, I was elated.
This game will go down in gaming history as one of the greatest of all time.

While I'm not a huge pvp fan in general in games, I don't hate it in SoT. Sure there has been frustrating moments when people blast my ship when I'm trying to sell things or dig up treasure, but my friend and I also had a really fun time going back to where we got sunk one time and getting revenge on the ship that did it. But the moment I tried it i was hooked and we have since expanded our crew to our whole social circle of military and veteran friends. The stories you make together is what keeps us coming back, whether it’s an incredible alliance, fending off a pirate trying to take your loot, or getting away with a stealthy heist on another crew. You want to talk about your exploits and come back for more. The game is a true masterpiece.

Actually, ive been thinking about it and a "Mad Max"-esque, dessert wasteland, rusty rigs, post apocalypse with a hint of fantasy/magic setting could work very well with a Sea of Thieves like game-play loop. Personally, I'm imagining a video game adaptation of the board game "Wasteland Express Delivery Service" where you are a mercenary shipping company delivering goods, managing fuel and water, and fighting off bandits, cultists, and other players. There could be quests and contracts, boss fights, POIs around the dessert, etc. I think it would work very well as a SoTs alternative.

If you don't enjoy the feel of the sailing
When the whole crew works to together for victory and through turnoil, it's awesome.

The only bad thing about Sea of Thieves to me is the fact so many people are put off from even trying it because it's a pvp game - the image it has is brilliant and truly earnt, but even Rust has it's community/private servers for people to learn without risk before jumping into official servers and getting bukkake'd by clan kids. I really wish Rare would lean into all the different ways of playing and let us create our own custom game modes and lobbies, because it's such a hidden gem that most people would love if they had a couple more stepping stones before leaping into adventure mode.

Though we all have different views on the game, whether it's PVP or PVE side, I'm glad that we can put aside our differences for a brief amount of time, look back at the game from where it was to now, and say, "We shall sail together".

I definitely had a bit of a pessimistic view of thieves last year regarding their adventures and the mystery. Sea of thieves is such an anomaly. The devs care, the music, the vistas, the different people you meet along the way, the unpredictability of how a session can go. With such an unintrusive microtransaction system inside too. I've met so many friends and foes over the last 3 years through this game. No other game has ever lived up or given the same experiences.

Another instance of Rare listening to the community has to do with Legendary Sea Dog. Initially in May of 2019 Rare was going to bring the requirement down from 240 to 100, and anyone who got the 240 wins before the patch would get the Victorious Sea Dog Blunderbuss. The community was outraged and thought Legendary Sea Dog should be a hard title to get and should stay at 240 wins. Rare listened and made the VSD blunderbuss a cherry on top of the commendation.

If I hadn't found sea of thieves I never would have met a friend who helped me through a really bad patch in my life, and probably wouldn't have made it through that patch. Without sea of thieves I never would have gotten into music. Sea of thieves is my favorite game by far, and rare has all the respect in the world from me.

Im glad someone understands the developers DO CARE. No other gaming company is as responsive and engaged with their community when they get this big. I do think they focus a BIT too much on the emporium compared to the actual in game stores but that’s a nitpick since there is plenty you can get with gold and commendations. Rare is an outstanding company, I stood by their side the moment I heard they were making sea of thieves and I will stand by them till the end.

What I really wished Rare would be working on is server stability (because Jesus Christ its unplayable at times) and some sort of MMR in the open world. It's honestly exhausting to constantly be paranoid of some troll brig ambushing you while doing story/forts. I understand why the game rewards that type of play but at some point it stops being fun and there's no reason for ambushers not to play like that, every other competitive game works endlessly towards patching away passive gameplay but it seems like Rare enjoys it.
And it doesn't have to be alot, it could be as simple as if you circle around islands for long enough you'll get constantly attacked by Megalodons or something.

I myself am proud to be a part of the community, and no matter how much my parents tell me gaming is bad for me, Sea of Thieves I will stay with till the very end, even if everyone else leaves the game. Anyone who disagrees with me, say it to my face. Captain plague won't take hate from the likes of reaper runners.

This game is amazing I just have to say the thing that makes it a masterpiece is the fact the community shapes what happens like in season seven when new golden sands blew up(correct me of I'm wrong I'm kinda dumb) due to the reapers and then merrick died so then in season nine port merrick was made out of the remains of new golden sands and when arena shut down alot of people were mad and then boom season eights hourglass I see sea of thieves as not just a game but also like a canvas where people through hours of commitment can forge their own pirate legacy either striking fear into many or calming others all I'm trying to say is sea of thieves was amazing until the community was able to change it then it was a masterpiece

  • @dirge7459

There's really no other game like SoT, simply because around 80% ish of the industry is still too busy chasing trends or making "safe" games for already popular genres or genres that won't lose as much money.
Think about it, we've had pirates games in the past like Monkey island for example, but all those pirate games had different takes on piracy, whilst SoT took most of those aspects in and wove them to create an open world pirate game. The only other game that sort of comes close is Black Flag, but Ubisoft had off bound limitations on that game, meaning it's not a proper open world pirate game like SoT.
The only way there will ever be another pirate game like SoT, is the day when devs stop trend chasing BR's or extraction games and focus on making good pirate games again. Until then it's just going to be Black Flag, SoT and Monkey island.
