    My take on the situation - I’ve been involved in various sport shooting disciplines for more than 10 years. Here are two of the biggest challenges I’ve seen in most of these disciplines:
    1. Politics - unfortunately we as South Africans, by large, have yet to learn what it is to work together but also to support something although you’re not the main peanut!! Everyone wants to be the chief in charge… if you don’t play by my rules… I’ll take my gun and go home! SAD, SAD, SAD!!! 😢 Many of those in charge are not open for new idees and will often - to the detriment of the sport - keep on to their positions & idees.
    2. You need passionate people to initiate & drive something! Most people want to join in the fun… very few are willing to roll up the sleeves to work & make something a success! What happens is that a hand full of people do the work and very seldom get an opportunity to play! One quickly loses their drive if you cannot participate & compete in the sport you love so much!
    Good luck with your new initiative Piet! Hope you’ll be able to play along!!!

    1. It is not going well economically, people are prioritising. 2. It is such a mess to go through the licensing process. My stomach starts turning if I think that I can wear out the barrel on my rifle, and that I have to go through all this to get my barrel replaced (may be easier for Piet, and some of the guys who are connected, but normal man in the street has a huge challenge). 3. We are paying Dollar prices in Rand for all the equipment. It is really really expensive.

    Looking forward to your new rifle series Piet. The western cape, SA and the rest of the world for that matter needs a rifle discipline where normal guys can take their hunting rifles from their safes with normal 5 round mags and compete in a hunting type match with realistic distances and low round counts. Was great to see you in action at the last “veldskiet”. You showed great potential and i look forward to see you at the other matches in the western cape! Keep up the good work!

    There are various reasons. 1) Administration: I've contacted NRLSA twice to try and host a match, no response, prizes were even offered. 2) Prohibitive legislation: The waiting period and training / barrel replacement matter makes it very dicey if you up your game (train - A LOT) and win matches. 3) Price gouging: Equipment cost increasing 85% post the import tax duties and it takes the same time to get here even if you import directly. 4) The competitors, some are just absolute boneheads. I've been looked down on because I compete with a relatively inexpensive rifle and have been asked "Kan jy nie iets beters bekostig nie? Jy ry nie een 'n Hilux nie". It felt good to beat them with their R100k rifles.5) Too few youngsters are introduced. 6) Durbanville Shooting Range - the management is an absolute horror.

    Awesome you are in a position to start a new competitive serious! Plus get sponsorship and hopefully make a it a super fun time. PRS in America is too expensive/competitive so I stick with nrl22. I've hosted a couple of centerfire matches which they were a lot of work but also a lot of fun. If I had a place to hold matches I would continue to do so.

    Theres a couple reasons why south africa sport shooting isnt growing and have a tiny following. The main reason is money. To explain it to folks...A great salary in SA is about $1500. Yet your purchase power with that amount gets you nothing. A "cheap" AR rifle SW mp15 is $1200 in south africa. In the states its $500 and you will make on average $2500+ salary. So you can see how much more a american can buy into sport shooting vs a south african.

    As far as shooting goes,let’s all be honest, it’s a very expensive sport and the barrier of entry is quite high. I think the league might have a better chance attracting more people if they gave them some kind of an affordable avenue to participate. Maybe you guys should consider rental rifles for match purposes. You pay a fee, your shoot the match, you hand the rifle back

    • @oif3vetk9
      @oif3vetk9 Рік тому +1

      Here in my State, Michigan, our monthly club has a "club rifle" that if someone has never shot a match but is interested yet has no rifle, they pay the match fee and they can use the club rifle, ammo provided. I guess one could say it is a rental but only for new people. The rifle was built from donated parts (We have several custom rifle gunsmiths in our monthly club and a chassis builder here within the state) and one of the gunsmiths built the rifle.

      @seyisodanielmayekiso3252 Рік тому +1

      @@oif3vetk9 Thats exactly the kind of solution I am referring to. I think it would be a great way to attract people to the sport, young or old, then they can buy their own rifle as they go. For one, Ive been waiting for my competency certificate since September last year, if a "club rifle" was an option id shoot that rifle in the meantime and just participate at least.

    I recently moved back to Bloem, one would think there are enough people here who want to shoot. I don't even know where to go to find out about shooting matches in my area. Talk to this gunshop, they have their own comps, talk to that guy or this organisation, they have their own comps. And before you can register or take part you need to join their circle or create a new membership. I'm already part of a shooting association, why is that not enough to take part in any match? I see NRL Hunter has a Freestate match, but they are hosting it in Bothaville. You might as well call it a North West or Gauteng match. I don't get why there isn't one here in Bloemfontein (I don't mind the drive, I was planning to enter but unfortunately the date doesn't work😕)
    I shoot quite a lot (for a South African), even though it's getting super expensive, maybe like 200 rounds a month. And yet I've haven't taken part in a match so far. I'd love to spend that same money, and instead of shooting gongs where only the local eland sees me ring steel, there are some other folks around, maybe a little competition pressure, and good vibes. It should be easy! Like a triathlon race, I just want to google "Freestate shooting matches", then select one that works, pay an entry fee and pitch up! Ek wil nie sukkel nie🤷‍♂😂

    Reasons why sport shooting does not well.
    1. Cost. Difficult to be competitive when you compete against guys with superior equipment.
    2. Advertising of matches. Organizers don’t advertise the matches.
    3. Current organizations seems loathe to get in new blood. I’ve sent over 10 emails and made numerous phone calls and had very little feedback.
    4. Existing veldskiet competitions are already deeply entrenched.

Even though what you say could be correct, associating the announcement of your new and exciting brand with a mud slinging match or that “this is why I’m good and you’re not” game may already have negative consequences… I’m sure it will do well though. Bottom line, owning firearms, hunting, long range shooting with factory components even often visits to the range can all be done by the average Joe here in South Africa but to beable to shoot competitive you have to be wealthy, even with a howa 1500 there are only 2 chassis for howa that allow you to shoot in factory division, other than a howa or any other rifles and chassis combinations its all open division from there on out, putting you in squads that pay to win, 25k race gun up against a 200k race gun
    Components are the largest driving factor for people not competing, bullets are expensive powder is ridiculous and don't even talk about primers. Rough estimations is buying in bulk saves you money but 50 rounds completed still cost you 1500 rand minimum and that's supposed to be cheap then there's all supporting equipment
    Match tickets/entry has become very expensive and it's also the traveling to matches all these costs rack up
    I blame government,importers, rand dollar exchange, local gun part manufacturing.
    I love your channel and follow you on all your platforms but the truth is, you make it seem easy to get into and motivate so many okes to start shooting, setting goals and push them selves and that's a good thing. staying in it takes passion and sacrifice
    My 2c is, if the gun industry in South Africa wants to survive they will have to minimize their profits and help make things easier for us who shoot by matching international pricing, making it competitive to prices we see online, local manufactured chassis and Bipods etc should be worth it for us, matches should be cheaper and more of us will show up
    Too much to mention but that's the just of it.
    Thanks Piet
