I was born in the forties. A neighbor of my parents recognized her on the streets of NYC in the 60s. She smiled at them, came and talked to them and was very warm and friendly.
Such a decent, talented female star, so multi-talented; thankfully she did receive numerous Awards and Honours that never came her way during her performing years. She was such a huge film star, often the # 1 box office Star of the year. And, did she have great fortine for her films starring with so many top, absolutely top male actors of all time such as Clark Gable, Jimmy Stewart, Rex Harrison, Rock Hudson, JAMES CAGNEY (both so great in "Love Me or Leve Me"), Frank Sinatra, Howard Keel, Gordon McCrea, Kirk Douglas, Louis Jourdain, Jack Lemmon, David Niven,Henry Fonda,Jack Carter, Barry Sullivan, and so many more. A Lady who most definitely be missed.

When growing up in the 50's I always felt so good when listening to her and loved her in movies. It's wonderful that she has done so much for animals. Bravo Doris.
During my stay in NYC, in the early 70th,I was mistaken by a parking lot attendant for Doris Day. I felt extremely flattered when he told me, 28:33 since, me too, thought of myself as not very pretty. Anyway, eventually I made a real effort to tell this young man that I really wasn't Doris Day. I don't think I ever saw a .ore disappointed face. I lost mt "special treatment " after that when I arrived to park my yellow VW on 39th Street and 2nd Avenue in Manhattan.

Had friends that worked for her and she was sadistic to the help. She had 30 dogs living in my friend's house in Carmel, owned by Doris, that there was no room for at the shelter. They ruined everything inside the home, Doris stopped paying for their food, and my friends were forced to take them to the vet and paying bills. When they confronted Doris about the situation Doris threw a heavy crystal ashtray at one of them; luckily she missed. They left that day. They both had nothing but good to say about her beloved son Terry Meltcher and mother Alma.
