    As a beginner its easy to feel coerced into buying a ton of specialist equipment and materials.
    This is much more helpful to someone like me who isn't prepared to commit to a new hobby they've got no experience with.

    This is exactly how my dad showed me how to do it many years ago! It's really good for backdrops and long cliff lines.

    Another method I have seen is to use cut up old bed sheets dipped into a runny plaster of paris mix in a large container, and the draw this over a dowel that is placed across the top of the container. This is very good for doing large areas at a time, and you don't have to spend so much time smoothing it out. Cheers DaveH

      David Houghton There's a few different materials you can use for the carrier, actual bandages with filler work well as well

    Mel this bring back all memories of making volcanoes with each of the children as they went through their grades. We call the paper balls wads down here but I think your right about the US train guys calling it something else. Most of my gaming boards have a rolling tops to create dead ground. I use plaster bandage on them to protect the slopes and peaks. If fact any where on a scenery piece where I what extra strength and protection it goes down.

    Hi.
    I was the one in the tttt group that you were talking to about the board i made with a similar construction method. Just a few suggestions.
    1. The smaller the bits you scrutch up the better texture you get.
    2 to make level platforms get a second piece of mdf and hold it up with a hidden block of wood.
    Anyway. The hooks look great, thanks for the video.

    I usually use paper towels and a solution of about 30-40% PVA and water, or Spackle and water (though, I don't usually measure that out. I know the consistency I want.) However, you have a point about the plaster bandages being cheaper. I may use them in my LARP set build.

      "Sci-fi/fantasy" world. Basically, it's an what if a massive EMP or solar flare happens tomorrow. Whose group will make it type of thing. 5 groups of survivalist are tested. Some places that are off the grid still have power, others don't. They need to make it to check points, and play the scavenger hunt, for supplies. But here is where it gets interesting. They loose a member every time they do something stupid. Like failure to treat a wound. Getting poisoned from failure to boil the drinking water, getting shot (paint ballls), etc.

    Early in the video you mention the base. Now this is a problem i've been having for over ten years! I have yet to find a cheap material, which is easy to cut into shape, for making terrain bases! EVERYTHING Ive tried so far gets all warped up! Even MDF board! (which btw is not very cheap or easy to cut into shape)
    Whats your best tip for making terrain bases?
    Thanx for a great video and great channel!

    • @TheTerrainTutor
      @TheTerrainTutor  9 років тому

      Krubarax I just go for 6mm MDF mate, are you cutting long thin strips?

    • @Krubarax
      @Krubarax 9 років тому +1

      TheTerrainTutor I've been using MDF in various thinckness, but they all get more ore less warped. I also find MDF rather cumbersome, since it is pretty heavy. We usually do our terrain pieces roughly 12x12".
      I am looking for something thin, and easy to cut into shapes. (my friend is talking about aluminium, but I think he has lost it) :p

      -l am going to use EPS foam along with some foam board to build a diorama,so l want to know if l should use newspaper sheets wrapped around them or not?
      -When should l start carving the plaster? Before or after it has dried completely?
      -What kind of product is the filler you use in this video,exactly? Could you send me a link where l can find some information about it? Should l apply it first and then carve it or the other way around?
      Sorry for the big comment! Thanks in advance! Liked and sbscribed,of course!! 😃☺😊😉
