i have a 4kMax firestick. When i "move" the app from Xplore from Apps to Internal Shared Storage Downloader it creates an apk file. I install it. However, it opens but remains an apk file and it remains also on the left screen under Apps on the Internal Storage. I also do not get the disk symbol in Manage Installed Applications that the app was moved. What am i doing wrong? Also - the downloader is in Shared Internal Storage. Why we i not be putting the App in the external storage usb under a New File? Would appreciate help.

Hi Tanya, i from PRince Edward Island Canada, and just love how easy you are to watch and listen to as far as downloading things on my firestick, hope you are well, and look forward how to learn new things thanks again. Kirby
I watched your video on how to connect the external storage and this one and both were fantastic! So easy to follow and directions worked perfect!! Thank you!!
I would like to thank you for making a great instructional video. The chapters are a great feature! I found myself going back to chapters to find what I needed.
Thanks Tanya. I was using a much more cumbersome procedure to move Apps and yours is much more efficient. By the way, you are a natural communicator and I hope you are a teacher. The world needs more like you! Cheers from Prince Edward Island, Canada!
finally a video that really works. the es file explorer doesnt work and this x-plore works straight to the point. I cant see the usb with it but with this software I can and was able to move files off the internal to the external. cheers
long time subscriber....thank you for this plain spoken detailed video and the one on adding storage to my 4k os6 stick....very thankful....you are great.
Thank you very much for this video. My FireStick was full and several other UA-cam videos would not work for me. Your instructions worked perfectly. Your knowledge of the Firestick is truly remarkable.
I have a few questions I'm hoping you'll help me with.... 1. Can you tell me how to move apps "as a whole package & keep the settings & passwords?" 2. This is a 2 part question. A. I've been looking for a Usb for my Firestick 4k & not sure what the best one to get is (64gb,128 or higher? I have no idea how much space apps take up). B. I seen in one of your other videos something about when using an "otg cable" with a Usb, it needs to be "FAT32" (If I understood that correctly) how do I format it when I get one? 3. My Daughter has Comcast at her home & she had me download the "Xfinity Stream" app on my tablet to be able to "watch away from home" her home. (before I ever got my firestick 4k). And, now I'd really love to watch it on my TV (bigger screen). I found a few old UA-cam videos for the xfinity stream app & talking about also downloading a toggle (they're a year old) that said to download the "Downloader" & type in a web address, but the address doesn't do anything. I then found an xfinity stream app, but it's not the same thing. (it's not actual streaming!") I am hoping you can help me, I am trying to watch the "lifetime movie Channel" through streaming which my daughter has & given me permission to use. & You seem so smart at everything about the Firestick 4k! Thank you very much! And, God bless you 🙏🙌😇💖

Tanya , I‘be done this with your previous tutorial- that part works great….. but…. I have over 3 gigs of internal storage. My problem is when I need to do updates, a message pops up that I don’t have enough room. What am I doing wrong? Can you please help me.
Unfortunately, this does appear to be an issue. As far as I am aware there are only 2 choices: 1) Uninstall the app and then re-install the updated app from my Filelinked (or other source). 2) Move the app to your internal storage, update the app and move it back to the external storage. Sorry I cannot give you a better answer that that right now. I hope this helps! Thank you for watching 😊👍❤️
Hey Tanya, I first of all want to say thank you for your fantastic work. Your videos are very straight forward and easy to understand. Apologies for this long message but I want to explain as much as possible the assistance I need. I feel like a proper idiot asking this, so embarrassing but I’m struggling with E-xplore. If possible I'd be so grateful for your help because I've watched other people's videos, but you are seriously the best of the best! Your explanation and guidance are like no other out there. I have a 3rd Gen fire-stick and I bought all the tools needed to make sure I could have multiple ports for USBs and multi-HDMI switchess a 255gb flash drive which I followed your instructions because it initially wouldn’t let me convert to FAT32. I was able to fix that with your help and I now have my set up just like the one in your video which I loved!! "insane setup for firestick" that enables you to plug the UGREEN adapter through Ethernet. It also allowed me to insert my small 256GB flash drive and I have a Bluetooth keyboard on the way so I felt really good about the setup. I am now however confused to bits using e-xplore. I’m unable to see my external storage anywhere on the app e-xplore, but I have moved some apps following your instructions and been able to verify they are on the external storage (I think) because when I checked my apps, I could see the little USB thing next to the ones I chose to move. Some apps though take up to 5 minutes to load, while other close down. I remember when you said that certain apps work better on internal storage so I'm working on that but on your videos, it looks so easy, even though I’m transferring to what I think is my 256Gb storage, I’m finding that e-xplore app randomly closes or disconnects. I've literally spent 4 or 5 hours going over each of your videos but I thought I'd reach out to the legend yourself because my external storage device which is a SanDisk doesn't appear on either the right or left side of e-xplore. The page just looks like a duplicate of sorts and I haven't got a clue what to do with the centre console. One final thing is I keep getting told I can't install apps when moving them because of "not enough space" I need to make my external storage as a default but I can deal with that when it comes to it. I'm assuming you live in the UK which is so much easier but I know you have hundreds of thousands of subscribers so I know you may never see this but I love your work! I rely on your experience and your knowledge blows my mind 🙂. Apologies again for the long message. Best wishes from Newcastle UK 🇬🇧
Hi. To answer why you cannot see your external store in X-pore, this video will help: CAN'T SEE FIRESTICK USB STORAGE | FIRESTICK STORAGE HELP - ua-cam.com/video/3P4N7pmtfxQ/v-deo.html. As you have partitioned your storage to additional system storage, any apps you install will install the external USB as a default, unless the permissions are denied within the app you are installing - as set by the app developers. Hope this helps!

I added 128 gig (scandisk) to my firestick using the 2-in-1 Micro USB to USB Adapter. I also added X-Plore per your suggestion. Here are some issues I am having - 1. X-plore sees my added storage, storage settings on the firestick does not 2. When I move the apps to the firestick and reinstall them, they show back up on internal storage. How can I make the apps install on the external storage?

Tanya, thanks again for this video, you make it easy to follow and install what is needed. It is too bad the Firestick 4k only has 8 gigs of memory. When you think that a micro sd card can easily have 32 gigs, this device should have a lot more memory. In the future I'm betting it will. Then they can sell more sticks. Take care and wear that mask.
I really enjoy your shows and have learned much from your firestick tricks. However I don't quite know the difference in external storage and extended internal. I have he new firestick 4k max and have installed a sandisk of 256 gig. I need to know if there is a way I can save my movie files from Tivimate and store them on my firestick without it using the firestick memory so I run out of internal space. If I format the usb to be used as external storage, I assume I will see it on xplorer and I can add my movies to that drive. Will I still be able to use the apps in the firestick? I plan on moving all my apps that I can to the external storage. Will all this work?
Thank you so much for this. Your video is so good. I have a problem with the xplor app. The downloader is gone. I have no idea where it went. Can you help me?
@FireTVSticks I cannot tell you how many times I have tried to add a USB drive, and with suggested Sandisk Ultra Flair, it simply wasn't happening. I picked up one of the USB drives from your video, and wallah! It has to be a problem with that USB drive. The laptop/PCs see it, but not the Firestick 4K. I am thrilled with my new performance since following your instructions on moving the apk(s), and reinstalling to see the on the USB drive. I no longer have infinite buffering requiring reboot, nor the need to reset my router. THANK YOU AGAIN!
Thank you...your video was very easy to follow. However the apps did not move to the external storage. I tried with hulu, sling and crackle the same ones you should that are in your exyernal storage. Paramount as it where I can move the app then I received an error message failed to move app. Not sure why this is happening. Can you assist me. Software version fire OS 7. Thank you.

Hi, thanks for all the great videos, I know alot more goes on behind the camera to make this work an conform to elites standards. The man keeps tring to bring you down. Stand tall girl. Fight the good fight. Anyway, i movied alot of apps to external storage watching your old video using adb shell. Some apps just don't work right on external. But now firestick installs every app to the external. I have to go to abd shell (long process) to move them back. Can I use this newer process to move them back to internal? Thanks
Unfortunately not. All applications will default to install to your additional system storage. If you want an app to install to your internal, the best solution is to temporarily disconnect your storage, install the app then add reattach your storage. Thank you for watching 😊👍❤️
With the xplore app can you move every app to external ? Some apps I have won’t let me send to external via firestick os method. Also can u recommend any free cache cleaners/optimizers. I don’t wanna pay 10$ a month to use es explorer. Thanks
As mentioned in the video, not all apps can be moved. Try this free clean up tool - ua-cam.com/video/8i8VcOKn9P8/v-deo.html However, cache will always need to be cleared manually for each individual app. There is no app that does this automatically on the Firestick. What storage you use is down to you, but there are few things you need to consider when choosing your USB storage. I personally use and recommend the SanDisk 32GB Flash Drive Amazon US - amzn.to/3aYwuGe Amazon UK - amzn.to/3vQy05t As Fire TV devices are formatted to FAT32, the maximum size of USB storage that you can use is 2TB, however, Amazon officially recommends using USB drives that are 128GB or smaller. Amazon also recommends that high speed USB 3.0 drives are used, even though Fire TV Devices have a 2.0 USB port because USB 3.0 drives tend to have faster read/write speeds and will perform better, even when connected to USB 2.0 ports. You also need to be aware that with this process, your Fire TV device is likely to run slower when launching apps and moving around the menus as files on your USB storage cannot be read as fast as they can be read directly on the internal device storage. I hope this helps. Thank you for watching 😊👍❤️
Thank you I have watched most of your video's and they are very helpful..I have my usb external drive working now thank you.. when we partition the usb if we type in disk: 8,0 and leave out the private will we be able to see it in x-plore? if so it would make it easier to move files..
Depending on how you add your storage will affect how you can see your storage in X-plore. If you use ADB to partition your storage as PRIVATE, you are no longer able to view the contents. It is inaccessible by any file explorer application. You will need to use the df -h command to see your storage space. Here is a video showing you how - ua-cam.com/video/RI6Gj0zwdQw/v-deo.html If you use ADB to partition your storage as MIXED, you will ONLY be able to see the partition of your storage that is not allocated to system storage by using X-plore. This is a great way to explore that part of your storage - ua-cam.com/video/zM52i-VhjPU/v-deo.html Hope this gives you the info you need? Thank you for watching 😊👍❤️
Good show, Tanya. I noticed you moved app from the "installed" folder of app manager. Is it possible to move apps from the "system" folder of the app manager or are they locked?
Hope this tutorial helps: firetvsticks.com/device-help/firestick/storage-firestick/firestick-fireos6/get-more-space-on-your-firestick-move-your-apps-to-external-storage-keep-all-settings-and-data/
Once you have allocated the USB drive as additional system storage, all apps will install to the external storage as a default - IF the developer of the app has specified this in the app code. To move apps to internal: Uninstall the app from your external storage. Power down your Firestick. Remove the external storage. Turn your Firestick back on WITHOUT the external storage. Install the app. Power down your Firestick. Connect the external storage. Turn your Firestick back on
Thank You So Much!!! I hope this will resolve my Space problem in my FireStick 4K. I hope you and your family are well and that things are going Very Well for you!!!
Great video - thanks for taking the time to record it for us. I have a 4k Max, which I have successfully added the USB to, and have succeeded in moving some apps that allowed it from App Manager, and when I installed X-Plore, it installed onto the USB drive automatically. However, I have two issues with the instructions for moving an app via X-Plore: 1/I do not have a "Downloader" folder in Internal Storage - I have "Download", which I was successful in moving my app (MAX) to, 2/after successfully moving my app's apk to Download, when I click Install, it tells me I don't have enough space to install the app. So, it appears it is still trying to install it on the FireStick's internal storage, instead of the external storage. Any suggestions?
I think that the problem you are facing is due to X-plore being installed on your external drive. To try and resolve this, can you uninstall X-plore, remove the power from your Firestick, detach the USB drive, attach the power to Firestick, install X-plore on the internal storage, remove the power from Firestick, attach the USB storage, and then attach power again?
Sorry but is it possible to use usb stick to transfer apps over to and files like videos etc? Or would it be only for apps if you choose that option??😰
You can use your storage as a mixed drive so you can allocate a part of your storage for apps and a part of your storage for files. How to do that depends on which Firestick you have. The 4K Firestick follows this process: ua-cam.com/video/TAy1VTaJk2o/v-deo.html The 4K Max, 3rd Gen and the Lite follow this process: ua-cam.com/video/xilUcuHpk3Y/v-deo.html Thank you for watching 😊👍❤️ To help support my channel and for priority responses to your questions and comments, you can consider becoming a member of my channel by clicking the link below and then clicking the JOIN button ua-cam.com/channels/xb2ktvayRwCIN9kBKgxUiQ.htmljoin
Tanya, thank you for upload this video. Unfortunately, the moved apps won’t go to my USB. I had it looked exactly like your screen. Do I need to setup something else for the apps installed automatically to my USB? I have firestick version 3, not 4K. Is that why? Thanks!
Hi. As mentioned at the start of the video, you must already have partitioned your storage drive to allocate it to shared internal storage. Did you do that? If so, which video did you follow?
Tanya, great info. Is there a way to use Xplore to move apps from the external usb back to the original internal storage? As u mentioned, some apps work better on the internal storage but what is the procedure to do that? Thanks.
If you have Fire OS 7, you should see an option within Manage Applications to move the app to internal storage. If you have Fire OS 6, you will need to uninstall the app, remove your USB storage then install the app again. With the external storage removed, the app will install to internal. Then re-attach your external storage.

@@robertcline3963 Yes you can use ADB Shell do do a mixed partition on Fire OS 7 devices. So if you enter MIXED 20 - this will allocate 80% internal storage and 20% general storage. I hope this helps 😊👍❤

Hi Tanya, if this method doesn't transfer app settings, it's the same as uninstalling them normally, and installing them again on the flash drive with Downloader, normally too... I don't find this method very useful because it doesn't copy saved data as well in the app. But thanks anyway for your work.

I know this is not on topic with this video, but I have watched almost every video and I am a subscriber to your channel. I am having issues with buffering and a data cloud error from time to time. With that error it only appears on certain TV Shows for example sometimes in the beginning or in the middle of watching it. The buffering is as well an issue mainly in the evenings. If you are experiencing this issue primarily on the IPTV pro-option, I recommend reaching out to your IPTV provider for assistance. @@FireTVSticks ok , another thing I connected a usb 2.0 hub , now my firestick keeps restarting after every 20-30 minutes ? Any suggestions on why this might be happening ?
Hi Tanya please can you do a video on how to be able to move apps properly to a usb flash drive from a 4K Max firestick and then use the usb drive on a different firestick a us the apps directly off the firestick please can you help me
Sorry, this is not possible. Once a USB storage drive has been formatted to additional internal (or system) storage, it will only work with that Firestick.
Hi Tanya, thank you very much for your help infos ... I have firestick 4K OS6 and Sandisk 32GB Flash Drive as external and private. I already downloaded Xplorer, and I can see the USB icon where is located, but when I tried to use Xplorer, I can't see my external storage and showing me the message in the right panel like "seems your divice wasn't rooted" ... how I can fix that ? .... again, thank you very much and hope you can help me, because I need to move some apps to the external storage.

i have a 4kMax firestick.

I watched your video on how to connect the external storage and this one and both were fantastic! So easy to follow and directions worked perfect!! Thank you!!
I would like to thank you for making a great instructional video. The chapters are a great feature! I found myself going back to chapters to find what I needed.

Thank you very much for this video. My FireStick was full and several other UA-cam videos would not work for me. Your instructions worked perfectly. Your knowledge of the Firestick is truly remarkable.
I have a few questions I'm hoping you'll help me with....
1. Can you tell me how to move apps "as a whole package & keep the settings & passwords?"
(it's not actual streaming!")
I am hoping you can help me, I am trying to watch the "lifetime movie Channel" through streaming which my daughter has & given me permission to use.
& You seem so smart at everything about the Firestick 4k!
Thank you very much! And,
God bless you

@@FireTVSticks how to move app to internal storage after moving?

I picked up one of the USB drives from your video, and wallah! It has to be a problem with that USB drive. The laptop/PCs see it, but not the Firestick 4K.

Here is a video showing you how - ua-cam.com/video/RI6Gj0zwdQw/v-deo.html
If you use ADB to partition your storage as MIXED, you will ONLY be able to see the partition of your storage that is not allocated to system storage by using X-plore. This is a great way to explore that part of your storage - ua-cam.com/video/zM52i-VhjPU/v-deo.html

As you say - some apps run better off the internal memory. Is it possible to move apps onto internal memory or select it when downloading app?
Once you have allocated the USB drive as additional system storage, all apps will install to the external storage as a default - IF the developer of the app has specified this in the app code.
To move apps to internal:
Uninstall the app from your external storage.
Power down your Firestick.
Remove the external storage.
Turn your Firestick back on WITHOUT the external storage.
Install the app.
Power down your Firestick.
Connect the external storage.
Turn your Firestick back on

To try and resolve this, can you uninstall X-plore, remove the power from your Firestick, detach the USB drive, attach the power to Firestick, install X-plore on the internal storage, remove the power from Firestick, attach the USB storage, and then attach power again?
thank you...
you are the best.

I just love your videos. Thank you for being so thorough each step of the way.
The 4K Firestick follows this process: ua-cam.com/video/TAy1VTaJk2o/v-deo.html

If you used ADB to partition your storage as PRIVATE, you are no longer able to view the contents. It is inaccessible by any file explorer application. You will need to use the df -h command to see your storage space. Here is a video showing you how - ua-cam.com/video/RI6Gj0zwdQw/v-deo.html
If you used ADB to partition your storage as MIXED, you will ONLY be able to see the partition of your storage that is not allocated to system storage by using a file explorer app. This is a great way to explore that part of your storage - ua-cam.com/video/zM52i-VhjPU/v-deo.html
If you have Fire OS 7 and storage was added via the Fire TV settings, you will not be able to explore that storage device.
Hope this gives you the info you need?
You will only be able to record to external storage if it is partitioned as MIXED or additional storage only (NOT system storage). Thank you for watching 😊👍❤️
@@FireTVSticks I am running Fire OS 7. Can I partition the external drive now using ADB Shell as before with the FS 4K? Since my purpose is to record from TiviMate, what command in ADB Shell should I use to get a 75/25 mix? I know I can do a 50/50 mix using the command sm partition disk:8,0 mixed 50 but want a larger part of my 60G storage to go to those recordings. Thanks.
@@robertcline3963 Yes you can use ADB Shell do do a mixed partition on Fire OS 7 devices. After you enter MIXED, the number you enter next will determine how much percentage is allocated to general storage. So if you enter MIXED 20 - this will allocate 80% internal storage and 20% general storage. I hope this helps 😊👍❤
Tanya, It does. Thank you so much for all you do. Your assistance and videos are very informative and your personal help is outstanding. Keep up the great work!
Outstanding loved that video, going to try it as soon as I get home, looks pretty easy
Thank you for watching 🙂❤👍
Brilliant I’ve been trying to do this for weeks 👌
Glad this helped! Thank you for watching 😊👍❤️
I have the 4k firestick and the adaptor along with sd card formatted to fat32.
and recognized
I followed you step by step.
using explorer.
I have done everything but the apps never shows up in managed install with a USB icon.
it just reinstalls back to internal
As mentioned at the start of this video, "you will need to have additional storage already attached to your Firestick and you must already have allocated that storage as additional system storage."
"If you have not done that already, in the link above me now and in the description down below, you can find a link to my tutorial that breaks this process down step-by-step into manageable sections."
Did you follow the other video to allocate your storage to additional system storage? Thank you for watching 😊👍❤️
All is good, nice and instructions was understood.
Thanks
Thank you so much. That was very helpful!
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for watching 😊👍❤️
Hi Tanya, if this method doesn't transfer app settings, it's the same as uninstalling them normally, and installing them again on the flash drive with Downloader, normally too... I don't find this method very useful because it doesn't copy saved data as well in the app. But thanks anyway for your work.
Sure thing! You can find a detailed guide on transferring apps while preserving their data on my website at firetvsticks.com/add-more-storage-to-firestick-fire-os-6/. I hope this information proves helpful to you!
I have over 100 mbps and a 1T external storage device, the OTG cable along with the 4K Stick. This happens mostly on the IPTV pro-option. About to go bonkers trying to do away with those two issues. Any help would be appreciated, thank you.
If you are experiencing this issue primarily on the IPTV pro-option, I recommend reaching out to your IPTV provider for assistance. It could be an issue with their service or you may need to adjust some settings within the IPTV app such as stream format.
For other buffering issues, please refer to this video: ua-cam.com/video/sfGCCpBLEn8/v-deo.html
I installed a thumb drive the way you instructed. But nothing comes up on moved to external storage Under manage applications. Do I have to change all the permissions to allow in order to move these applications
Did you format the storage to additional system storage as per the disclaimer in the video? Thank you for watching 😊👍❤️
@@FireTVSticks I formatted the drive and hooked it up and it’s all working good. Thank you so much I appreciate all you do

Hi how do set up my USB Drive as an external storage.thank yoo
If you want to attach additional storage so that you can use that storage to get more space to install apps, you will need to follow a different process depending on which version of the Fire operating system your device is running on.
If you are not sure which Fire OS you have, please watch this very short video on my website: firetvsticks.com/device-help/firestick/help-firestick/firestick-howto/how-to-check-what-software-version-your-fire-device-is-running/ then choose the correct video tutorial to watch from below:
Fire OS 5: Not possible to increase storage for more apps. But you can still attach storage to share files as shown in this video - ua-cam.com/video/LQ7Na-hzeX4/v-deo.html
Fire OS 6: ua-cam.com/video/TAy1VTaJk2o/v-deo.html
Fire OS 7: ua-cam.com/video/xilUcuHpk3Y/v-deo.html
Once you have use either these methods for increasing your app storage on Fire OS 6 devices, you can then move your apps using this method - ua-cam.com/video/Vv96IEZoyz4/v-deo.html
I hope this helps! Thank you for watching 😊👍❤️

I used the method described to move most of my apps to external storage on my fire stick 4K max. I also moved ny apps on my fire stick 4K, However, when I checked my list of apps none of the moved apps were showing. Does this process only work on the 4K max firestick?
You may need to restart your Firestick.
Thank you, worked very easy. You word processes far better than I've seen before. I would like to move my cinema including saved favorites to my external drive. Can you please link that video for me? Also on another firestick I'm trying to download Downloader and it say that I own it, so I click the button and get a download failure message, please try again. Any ideas?

Your video is very concise and makes moving apps to usb drives simple, but once you take it off the firestick is there a way to start an app from your usb drive? Thanks so much for your wonderful videos!!!
Yes, you can run any app from your external storage that you have installed there. Thank you for watching 😊👍❤️
Dear Tania, I have a Fire Stick 4K 2nd Generation OS6, the applications are installed on my USB drive but X-Plore does not recognize it and for any application installed on the fire stick 4K it gives me the option to move to the external memory, which as you I mention the app x plore it does not detect it.

What is the maximum size of sd card supported by fire stick ? Will it support a 256 gb or 512 gb SD Card ?
What storage you use is down to you, but there are few things you need to consider when choosing your USB storage. I personally use and recommend the SanDisk 32GB Flash Drive
Amazon US - amzn.to/3aYwuGe
Amazon UK - amzn.to/3vQy05t
As Fire TV devices are formatted to FAT32, the maximum size of USB storage that you can use is 2TB, however, Amazon officially recommends using USB drives that are 128GB or smaller.

In this instance, you will need to uninstall the app manually then reinstall the app from the original source. Thank you for watching 😊👍❤️
