Steve Fowler has a powerful voice, and i should know because I've known him since I was 3!!!!! My family lived next door to him and he was always singing.
I saw this show in London when I was 9 back in 1990. I came out and burst into tears as I had never experienced such happy emotions before. This show has stuck with me forever. The music and cast are simply incredible.
I saw Starlight in London in 198? when i was 7 years old. I'll never forget the experience. Pure magic. Still to this day, I know every word from the show and I'm 46. Fell in love with musical theater that night
Hi SSD. I saw the live show at Wembley for first time today. Been listening to the music since I was 9 or 10, I'm 43 now and I was completely floored by the set, sound and cast. Tears rolled during "I am the Starlight." It was a stunning performance, and I will remember how it made me feel tonight for the rest of my life. Starlight 💫 Express will live forever
@@jamesnicholson5609also 43! Lol. Oh I’m so jealous. I’ve seen it 6 times in the past but I haven’t been lucky enough to see this tour. I’m so pleased you liked it X
This is impressive for the simple fact that this show is the ONLY ONE in the ENTIRE WORLD thats done ENTIRELY on ROLLER SKATES! Phenomenal honestly i cant reccomend this musical enough look past the personification of the locomotives and youll actually enjoy it dont let something slightly out the ordinary stop you from depriving yourself of a once in a lifetime musical!
2:55 is one of the greatest moments in theatre history caught on film. Both actors singing for their lives, with that swell from the orchestra followed by a triumphant applause from the audience. Exquisite musical theatre.
I saw a tour of this and absolutely loved it. I don't need to see real trains. I need to see magic and hope and love and songs and that's what this is.
I see this again in 10 days and literally weeing myself. Such fond memories of this show since being a kid. My school put on this show and I was a train.
@@Lbh55 Yes! They've replaced it with a song called I Do in the currently running production in Bochum. It's not terrible, but nothing can match Only He/You at all.
I didn't know that Paul Nicholas ( Jesus Christ superstar )wrote the lyrics to the starlight express song. Now that's talent. But he is anyway. Underrated and very talented.

I could listen to Steve Fowler all night, wish I was his neighbour.
That’s so interesting! I thank you for sharing!
He’s my dad and he’s this animated at 78yrs old! Very strong vocals!

It's showing in Wembley at the moment. I'm going and it's going to be just as amazing ❤

One of the wildest experiences I have ever had in a theater, was Starlight Express. Such great music and such energy
I can’t believe Greg Mowry wasn’t in anything else on Broadway he is incredible
Neither can I! His voice is phenomenal!!
What even happened to him after this show?
@@gjm2669 Does he still perform? Has he retired from the stage and pursued another career? What’s the 411?

First Broadway show I saw as a child ♥️
Came here to.make fun of it. Left impressed. Hats off. What a show!!

I love those songs!
I don’t care what people think about this musical I love it so much and I’d do anything to be in it omfg
I was obsessed with this.
0:24 - The Starlight Sequence (I Am the Starlight)
3:18 - Light at the End of the Tunnel
I adore this - thank you! What talents.
I love Greg Mowry and Steve Fowler.
MY FAVOURITE RUSTY!!!
GOOSEBUMPS!!!!
Thanks for sharing! Love this performance.
Saw this at the Majestic Theatre in NYC in 1987.
Superb!!!!
Oooooohhhh wow!
Holy hell... the Predator DOES look like a starlight express reject!
Predator?
Just searched this after watching that lol
@@unfi5hable I don’t understand your comment. The Predator? Who is the Predator and what makes them a Predator?
They must present also "Only You". It might help them to win more than 1 awards
They took Only You out of the show! That was the best thing in it!
@@Lbh55 Yes! They've replaced it with a song called I Do in the currently running production in Bochum. It's not terrible, but nothing can match Only He/You at all.
@@finleyforevermore see the Michael Crawford version it’s good
@@Lbh55 I am interested in making an animated adaptation of this show one day. And if I do, I will put Only You in it.
Not sure if it’s the full version but they put at least part of it in the new london production -‘it’s part of the song “I Am The Starlight”
Another thing I wanted to know is why there wasn't an album of the original Broadway cast?
Honestly my question too! So many talented people and yet no cast album
There is one and there’s also one of the 2024 cast
4:57 is that Jane Krakowski? I had no idea she was in this.
That is indeed Jane Krakowski! www.playbill.com/person/jane-krakowski-vault-0000060721
nuh uh
This has never played in America since the 80s I’d like to see it
Actually it has. There was a Los Vegas show in the 90s and a very weird ice capades version where Rusty was human.
Oh weird

He does sing it on a cd. Sorry.
Still great voice.
naur it's richard stilgoe
❤️❤️❤️
I would really like to see this musical in its original form without the changes that have been made over the years
Was this filmed in two different locations? Because it seemed like they switched stages during the "I am you".
They used to do that a lot... Mix a pre-taped package with a short, live performance.
@@gjm2669 You actually played Rusty or some other train in the show?!!? You must've been very lucky.
@@gjm2669 Lucky you. Also, I would like to make a film adaptation of this show someday. I think my vision of it will be something to look forward to.
Who is the CB?
Barry Bernal is CB.
Hey!
Can we use the Light at the End of the Tunnel part?
no
i would disown my dad for adding the rap number
I never understood this musical. I mean they never really looked like trains at all to me. Just people skating around with like metal armor.
Right, they should’ve hired actual trains to sing the songs
Cue "Thomas the Tank Engine"...
@@darkmynx1 ironically ALW wanted to make a Thomas the tank engine musical and was turned down. We got Starlight Express instead
@@ZoeKitten84 I love ALW & his work, but I can't picture how that would work. Thomas & ALW doesn't seem like it'd be a good match.
Wait, they’re supposed to be trains? I thought this was just some fucked up apocalyptic future.
My cousin was in this died of aids RIP
Who was your cousin? Barry Bernal, Michael Scott Gregory, Ken Rose, Marc Villa, Phillip Clayton, or Danny Strayhorn?
Awe Angela Lansbury...you just want her to sing Beauty and the Beast 😅

That one episode when Thomas took acid
Usher at the superbowl
Opera Phantom Yes, Cats Yes, Jesus Yes, Rainbow Coats Yes, People as Trains on roller skates NO

lame, when does Mr mistoohelees and rum tum fight the starlight express

Too bad this show single handedly could refund its self with how much its insurance paid for injuries.
It is very odd no tactical use at all

One show i had no interest in
Omg, this is terrible!!

And we love it
It’s has its cons. But mostly pros in my eyes :)
What a train wreck
