- In this video I provide my initial reaction to using an instant pop up tent. I provide a complete product review for the Ayamaya Pop Up Tent which was tested in Fall weather conditions in Central Illinois. I provide a complete pop up tent demonstration, pop up tent setup and instant pop up tent review.

Just took this out for the first time and we had non stop heavy rain for a day. Rain fall warning said 2-3" of rain (50-75mm) and looking at close areas they were measuring 55mm. Tent exceeded expectations - stayed dry and with how long it takes to put up and down we were very impressed. Wondering if the unit in the video was a lemon or if that was condensation on the inside more than anything?
I'm glad to hear you had good luck with it. Maybe ours was a dud. Who knows. Condensation is a possibility.
Common sense isn't very common.
The peculiar way she tied the guide lines meant the fly was creased and touching the inner layer, instead of the raindrops rolling off the fly.
If someone is going to review a tent they should at least try to follow the manufacturer's instructions before saying "screw it, I'm going to do it my way"!
Almost all nylon tents will have breath condensation droplets on the inside. Anyone who's ever slept in a small nylon tent will have seen this when they wake up in the morning. This tent isn't better or worse than the rest of them. If the reviewer hosed it down, and then showed us the leaks on the inside, that'd be a different story. This review is a fail, imho.

What would you suggest for a 4 to 6 people about 6 ft tall 4 season tent that won't break the bank ? If possible pretty as well 😊
@@skywatcher9712 if you're looking for a 4 season tent it will break the bank 😥. There are many good options for 3 season tents. If you're looking for a truly 4 season tent I'd go with a canvas wall tent or a teepee style with an 8P capacity.

I saw Kodiak it's 4 season but I love that tent. But would it even hold up to heavy rain ?
Tent worked a treat for me. Took to 3 day festival in Tasmania, Australia. Camped in open. High wind & rain much of the weekend. No leaks or issues. Didn't bother with guy ropes. Set up in a minute. Pack up 10 minutes (first times I've used a pop up tent. Will be quicker next time). I thought it was great 👍

@@LoneCrowAdventures yeah this tent is pretty much awesome. I hope people don't see your review and then think that it's actually hard to use. It's actually difficult to screw this one up. I wish you would do another video showing how nice it is. Many tents require the owner to waterproof in order to keep costs down.

The popup tent I bought 35 years ago, could take on the wind without damage unlike any tent I had ever experienced. Think it was because the loops were one continuous piece of fiberglass without those joints that always bend in strong winds. However, popups with the loop design are not very backpack friendly. Mind you, those joints are relatively cheap to replace.
By the way, the zippers need to be open a bit to let air in, otherwise, they don't pop up well. I have a new 2 door popup sun tent that I have yet to try at the beach. Not waterproof, but I bought it for the beach and future floating platform to avoid more skin cancer. And setting up a camping style tent on the beach is often not allowed.
It would make a good beach tent. I never thought of that.

Omg funny, ok next time try this go get a 12x12 pop up tent and put a 8x8 pop up tent inside, all the wind and rain and condensation will be on the other tent and you will be warm and dry inside the other, works awesome

I own one of these and take it camping year-round in Oregon and have never had any leaking issues whatsoever. Not sure how or why you did. You also set up the lines completely different than I do though. One line per corner of the top of the tent to tree's is what I do and it repels water. It almost seems like the rope system you had set up would hold water. Maybe this was the issue?
That is a possibility 🤔. I wasn't sure how to guy it out exactly.

I'm looking into this tent to pitch inside my house in Canada if/when the power grid goes down in the winter. (People won't last for very long at -40.) I'm worried about a cyber attack this winter (2021).
I like the vestibule. I could use that as an airlock to keep the heat in.
How stable would this tent be indoors without the pegs and ropes? I might be able to tie the ropes to something, but definitely no pegs. :)
Would it be sturdy enough to throw a blanket over to add some insulation, or would that collapse the tent? What about a mylar blanket?

The only thing I could say is you could run a ridgeline rope between trees, and throw a big enough tarp over thar to shield the tent. But still, not good in adverse weather. Thanks.

It looked like you have a very thick sleeping bag. Which makes me think there was a temp drop or was colder to begin with. I’m wondering if thats not the condensation from your breath throughout the night. Normal temp is 98. Whatever. Your breath plus lower temps outside will definitely cause that if there’s not adequate ventilation.
It could certainly be the case. There was a dense fog that morning. It was a very disheartening situation. We had thought about bringing it on a road trip to Texas but abandoned the idea.
Real life video. Most of us do stuff like that, upside down, backwards, it's all good.

Thanks for the review. I was really interested in the tent. The manufacturer indicates that it supports 3000 and 4000 mm waterproof.
In my experience 4000mm hydrostatic head ratings are mega, mega expensive. I would not believe at this price point the tent is 4000mm HHR. 3000 HHR is very likely though as this is pretty much an industry standard.
What I've found on looking into this tent is that I believe the floor material is made out of a 4000 mm waterproof material and the walls and roof of the tent are made of out of a 3000 mm waterproof material.
I still like this video, no matter what anyone says.

I loved mine until the poles melted in the sun. I only got to camp in it a few times. There happened to be a heatwave the last time I set it up. The temp outside was 107. I went to pack it up and all of the poles snapped from the heat.😢

Honestly your the first person that I have seen that took that long. You couldn't see or identify the bottom material ?? 20 years camping you should know the material. Not trying to be a mean its just you seem to have wanted to make it look bad.

@@mattress38 have you EVER had a tent leak because of fog!? Also if you treat a tent you are earring out to test are you testing the tent, the dwr or your skills at applying it? Mind you it didn't rain just fog so my stuff should not have gotten wet from a little moisture build up on the outside of the tent and dew.. Most tents need waterproofing around seems etc. This one had zero dwr applied despite the manufacturer claiming they did. I declare the tent a total failure when it leaks in dense fog.
@@LoneCrowAdventures Did the outer layer (rainfly) keep the contact moisture off the inner layer?
@@virginiapaddler4857in some areas it did such as along the side walls. Where it didn't was directly overhead (basically at the very top of the "U" shape where moisture would collect for extended periods of time. I'm sure the side walls would have leaked in a full rain storm based on the performance of the material. If you are considering this tent please take the take to add DWR generously. The seems were seam taped and I observed no leaking at the seams, just through the nylon.
You should always spray down any new tent with a waterproofing spray when new, and at least once a year afterward.

@@LoneCrowAdventures I think plenty of their waterproofing wears off in shipping and storage. I let the tent dry in sun for an hour or two and cures most water issues for a season. Repeat next season.
If no one mentioned it, that’s not rain it’s condensation. You can to keep your windows open for ventilation. It happens to be all the time and every kind of tent when I go beach camping and forget to keep the windows open.

Very good review, many thanks. I think you do not deserve nasty comments, have seen a few. I am puzzled with leaking. Could it be just condensation? You said there was a lot of fog, then it will get to the tent from everywhere and you get water on the walls. As you realize, some people here claim the tent was completely dry in rain, and I have seen some other videos confirming this. The official waterproof rating of this tent is impressive. I wonder if you have ever tried it again, for example in the garden, spray with lots of water to check about leaks?
It would be worth check out. If it was condensation a ventilation issue is needed to address that problem. I thought the leaking problem was very strange given the conditions in which I tested it. Thanks for the encouragement.

So fog creates a non waterproofable tent! Fog is very miniscule clingy water particles saturating everything. Any more info on this? Shalom to us only in Christ Yeshua.

Great video. Sorry to see it didn't stand up to the rain. That's surprising to me, considering this tent got great reviews, not only on amazon but in this video comment section as well. Perhaps it was the way you used the guy lines/ropes to tie it down. Also I thought this came with poles for the shade/awning (some say it does). Thanks for sharing . Happy camping

Let me tell you about Amazon reviews..... this company sent thousands of tents out to small youtubers and Instagram users for "free". Basically the content creators bought the tent so that it would be a verified purchase and then the company sent us a full refund to our PayPal accounts in exchange for an Amazon 5 star review (although they don'ttell you they want a 5 star review but that'swhat they expect). Many Asian based companies do this. I of course agreed and when I posted an honest 1 star review on Amazon my inbox was flooded from emails from the company begging me to change it to 5 stars. I eventually agreed to just take my review down. That is why there are so many positive reviews. Be cautious about unknown Amazon companies with copious amounts of positive reviews for this reason. I no longer have dealings with these sorts of companies but in the beginning of my UA-cam journey I was highly unaware of this deceitful practice.
Amazon Retailers pays buyers to post good reviews. I personally have received offers from sellers; but no one can bribe me to lie. I appreciate her honest video.

It has a rainfly… it's permanently attached (that's what makes it a double wall tent). You just need to guy it correctly, and properly vent it to avoid condensation from your own breath… or just a differential in temperature. When one sees condensation on a cold glass of water, it's not because the glass leaked!
Dead crow rating? OMG, this is the best. But seriously, many of us are newbies and have no idea what we are doing. You may have saved someone from making a huge mistake. I bought one tent that was recommended to me as a first time and took it to the Alabama Hills (CA) in the middle of the summer. I had the worst night sleep of my life that night as I couldn't stop sweating. Traded it for a Marmot Limelight 3P which was twice as much. I just took it camping and had absolutely not issue with it. It was worth the money not to be miserable in the woods.
I agree. Quality gear saves you money in the long run because you don't have to replace it nearly as often as budget gear. No more pop up tents for me!

Thank you for sharing your videos on car camping as well as backpacking camping. With limited budget I try to use same gear for both. Though it's nice to see if there's a luxury item I may or not spring for by viewing your videos. 😊

@@LoneCrowAdventures - Maybe people just don't like to see a product trashed unfairly due to user error atop user error. It was painful to watch, and painful to read all the comments from people who thought you "saved" them from a "bad product." The old adage of the blind leading the blind comes to mind. It's highly unlikely you "got a dud," or that water seeped through the rainfly. One needs to maintain proper airflow to avoid condensation on the inside of tent walls. Perhaps you aren't experienced camping in highly humid environments and simply don't know this?
When one sees condensation on a cold glass of water, it's not because the glass leaked!
I don't think that was rain or condensation I'm pretty sure the tent was crying because it was just plain ashamed. The awkwardness from you was just hilarious!

Thanks for the feedback. I had never used a pop up tent before and was open to the idea. However, this tent failed miserably due to the lack of waterproofing and leakage. That was the primary reason this tent failed.

Thanks for this honest review. I found that a few people said similar things about water proofing with this brand despite being more expansive than similar models. Those cheaper models didn't have any complaints as far as water proofing and in fact one person said they used it for days in the rain with no problems.This brand is expensive and yet poor water proofing? Unacceptable...

This is such a great review. I'm considering a pop up tent rather than a tarp for my woodland. I have children and want to be able to put up something I don't care about very much for our day trips and the odd summer overnight. I will however be looking for something waterproof, very much needed here in England!

Maybe check out the Coleman one. I've never personally tired it but Coleman makes quality products in other tents that I have tired which have been very waterproof. Good luck!

I have to agree with @Virginia Paddler: From what I can see you are against pop up tents and you didnt give it a chance, any basic camper knows when you buy a new tent, you waterproof it, your advice regarding strength in winds was incorrect and misleading, Ive used this tent and honestly, its been my go to favourite.
had you looked at the bag it came in, you would have found the setting up instructions printed on the side. You have been totally biased in your review, and if the manufacturer sees this video, I can see a law suit being prepared, you couldnt even identify the ground sheet, and there was someone in the background yelling it to you!
This review is totally bogus, and was intended to give the pop up tent a bad rep right from the start, your opening remarks have proven that.
For anyone else watching this, buying a tent is down to personal choice, just remember the simple do's and dont's . when you buy a new tent, buy a good waterproofing agent and then set the tent up a few weeks before you want to use it, waterproof it and let it dry out naturally and then let it get some rain on it. for your seams, give them a run over with wax, it will prevent water ingress, and remember to vent your tent while camping, condensation builds up on the inside if not vented
all of these points were for some reason left out of this review. the tent reviewed, if prepped and used correctly is as good a tent as any, and it will stand up to gale force winds, which I had while camping the Scottish 500 on the west coast of the Scottish highlands

Got to agree didn't give it a chance totally bias against , not a fair review! Interesting to see you used it on NC500 I am planning Sandwood bay in an easy erect tent ,a little heavy but I like the idea of arriving at Sandwood and having almost instant shelter if the weather turns bad on the walk in.
@@johnmudd6453 You can get one of these tents from many different manufacturers if you visit alibaba or something like that, they are cheap, extremely robust in high winds, roomy and since my last comment, I had one issue with mine, O got about two table spoons worth of water leak in on the base seam, this was during a rainfall of tropical proportions in the jungle of Brunei, and it was an easy fix with a tube of silicone sealer, 48 hrs of none stop really heavy rain and two table spoons of leakage, to show for it,
My suggestion for anyone buying this kind of tent, after each use just give the bottom seam a once over it flexes a lot between folding and unfolding and may require tape sealing from time to time.
Other than that, still a favorite tent to use

I laughed like crazy when I saw you opening up that tent; because that would be me! I always struggle with those darned windshield covers; I can only imagine if it were a tent. Although the concept of popup tents are nice; maybe in 5 yrs they will improve. Nothing beats a good ole fashioned canvas tent; like my gamewarden dad grew us up on; except if you are backpacking; then its the lightweight with aluminum poles n pegs. :)

I have used these tents for years both with my children and Girl Scouts and never seen them ever fail on set up! Taking down and folding can be difficult but with practice it is easy. Sorry you found it difficult, not a very fair review!
The set up and take down wasn't really that big of a deal the main issue with this particular model was the poor waterproofing. Thanks for checking it out!

Hmmm, that's totally opposite from the experience I had.
Trying to buy a new tent after having the same one for years. This is getting annoying as most tents these days seem to suffer from the same problem. Have half of mine to just get a roof top tent for my xj and forget about these more affordable standard tents

So far that was the first and only. I rated it negatively on Amazon too and the company harrassed me until I finally just took the Amazon review down. Do not but this tent. Lol worst tent I've ever used. I've always been skeptical of these tents but I didnt think they were this bad! Glad i tested it close to home. We hand thought about bringing it to Texas on our road trip. Thank god we didn't do that.

I'm so new to this and I feel like an idiot after watching halfway through. I've been looking into tents for a few days and I just realized the "vestibile" has a separate floor. I was thinking the whole floor to the tent was like that so any tents I saw with a removable floor i removed from my carts 😂

I think this is the tent for the kids but I recommend good old ranger tent aka bag with two poles and ropes

Leakage is why I pretreat with Kiwi Camp Dry...before I walk out the door

Improper tying the guy ropes at middle pole, they should be tied as the tying of outside ropes , so the two side guy rope could apply the opposite pressure from the middle ,and the whole tent would be pluming,the wind and rain resistance would be better .
I had a hard time figuring it out because there were more guy rope attachment points tha guy ropes provided. Seems fairly sturdy though.

It looks like you never put a tent up if you couldn’t figure where the bottom the tent is. And crisscrossing rods. Again if you ever had experience with a Hildebrandt tent they do not cross and are good to 70mph winds. As for putting out crossing lines what I have never seen that so you can chafe the lines when they rub. And if you tossed it right side up it works better.

Sorry I found this review a little embarrassing. I have been camping for more than 50 years and I now will only use this style of tent now. Very quick to set up even in a rain or wind storm. Tent out bedding in no pegs no ropes set up until the weather settles. I've done it many times. My suggestion is make sure you are familiar with the product before you review it? I've used all types of tents and this style is the best for me????

I almost took this tent on a 10 day road trip where I had multiple set up and take downs. Thankfully I gear test everything before a big trip! Thanks for checking it out!
Lmao if you read the description it says it prevents condensation.... not anything about over head water prevention.....so why even do that test. Most ppl buy this tent for fast set up. You can easily buy a 20$ tarp that’s more effective than any tent against over head water. If you’ve been camping for more than 20 years you’ve been camping in a camper...
Most tents, except for maybe cheap garbage ones, prevent overhead water from leaking in light to moderate rain conditions. Of course in a downpour eventually all tents will fail, but this was not even a light rain. At the time this video was completed the tent manufacturer claimed it was rain proof. Obviously since many people have tried and complained about its performance they may have changed their product description or updated the waterproofing on the tent. Sadly, I wanted to like this tent.
I guess I can give it time but its a 8 on a scale 0 to a 10 but I'm learning how to but my number is a 8 for real its my first time at it will see im 54 . I saw kids they were great but me im not a good folder but I'm slow and older
It's not too hard to fold back up once you get the hang of it.

All tents leak. ALL tents. It’s your responsibility to do your own waterproofing.... from a $500 tent to a $25 pup tent.... seam seal inside, spray outside, and repair every little puncture. And all tent pegs have to be replaced immediately- all tents give you those worthless tiny sticks. That wetness looked more like condensation from your own breath. But even if it wasn’t, touching the tent fabric typically lets any water wick through to the other side. It will do that from a cheap Walmart tent to a big expensive canvas tent or pop up camper. The only way to 100% prevent a tent from leaking is to tarp it. And the only way to avoid condensation building up is to make sure your tent has adequate ventilation. That’s why most dome tents have mesh on top with a rainfly above it- your breath goes up through the mesh, beads up on the inside of the rainfly, and rolls outside between the two layers. My instant cabin tent has no mesh on top and is bad about condensation so I keep the windows rolled down and tarp it if it rains. So far this month I’ve spent a week camping in thunderstorms and last night in a rainy windstorm (in the $25 Walmart tent, no less) and no leaks. That wouldn’t have been the case without some preparation and engineering, though.

Wrong, not all tents leak. I’ve been camping for 40 years, had my share of tents and storms, never tarped the top and actually most I’ve had didn’t leak.
I have and love this tent used on many rainy days with no issues, however like all small tents there prone condensation,I always hang a fan and or open vents, its no different than if you were in your car during rain storm,if you rub your hand on windows there gonna be wet till open a window or turn on defrost fan,this review gave bad vibes only because its from an ''experienced' camper that didnt promote any ''probable likely cause

Just watched another video of the tent being setup by 3 small kids and a dog and it took them less time to set this thing up. 😁😁😁 You claim to have been camping for 20 years and yet you cannot figure out the top of the tent from the bottom? Yikes. This tent is clearly geared towards families with small children who will not be backpacking for long distances into the wilds or prairie grasslands., I mean why would you? That's like trying to use mud to wash your car and then complaining that it's still dirty.

I’ve watched a lot of tent reviews here on You Tube. Yours are the best because I can actually hear you. I’ll assume you are wearing a wireless mic while others just hope their voice can be picked up by the camera mic. So, THANK YOU! I love tents and have two good ones, so I’m not in the market, but I have been so curious about pop up tents. And, I’m now a subscriber!
Thanks for the feedback. Yes I used a wireless Lav mic in this video. Sometimes I have an onboarding external mix that I use but if I'm filming some videos where the camera is set back like this one was I prefer the lav mic for better sound voice quality. Thanks for the feedback though. Glad the small touches are going noticed by viewers!
My guess is tw0 adults plus , 4 kids not 6 adults no it can not do it would be no room it wouldn't be good my guess is 3 adults in tent for sure

Yeah, there is a really decent anout of room inside the tent in terms of camping with kids. A lot of people like this tent for that reason.

Ur storage area yeah u have 6 backpacks 6 pairs of shoes other things right its in the rain how terrible it would stand to a fire to dry clothes for a while then shoes wet , I'm like a cat don't get in water it messes w being stable on ground but thanks u called out on this not waterproof good landy a friend of mine yes I live in PA above pittsburgh
Oh come on! You don't know where the bottom of the tent is!!! I thought you were the expert on tents. You should try the Front Runner pop up tent. Double layered to protect from rain.

They don’t go living in it so I would recommend it for people to camp in but not make it their “home” 😏

I appreciate your review but you are wrong about the waterproofing. Thats a combination of condensation and the odd way you tied the ropes - not a leaky tent. Thats literally why the tent is designed with an inner and an outer layer. Its a real shame your review has put people off buying it who wouldn't know better and take your word for face value. You should honestly consider taking this review down.
