Now I have a better understanding of what OCD is and isn't. Its a very serious condition and people shouldn't make light of it. This was so informative you're doing a great job. Thanks!!
Dr. Rami, I have watched your full video about OCD yet I haven't found any strategies on how to manage of intrusive unwanted thoughts. What coping skills do you strongly recommend? Shukran !
Alsalam alykom Dr. Nader, thank you for the good description of the problem. But, do you know the cause of OCD? so that if we understand that maybe we will be able to prevent the intrusive thoughts from coming to the mind in the first place. I think that is much better than curing its damaging effects after it comes to the mind.
Good question. The thing is that everyone gets intrusive thoughts, so there is no way to prevent them from happening. The difference is the meaning that people with OCD apply to the intrusive thoughts and how they respond to them. I'll be posting a video on the way people interpret intrusive thoughts in OCD shortly. You might also want to watch this video about a model for what happens in OCD: ua-cam.com/video/Ri8WlTxWFWs/v-deo.html
Why people of OCD respond to these intrusive thoughts in a self destructive manner? Is there are a biological, psychological reasons or a combination between them that causes these responses? What distinguishes OCD people from others? Why does people of OCD can’t skip these intrusive thoughts like the majority of people? What makes OCD people distinguished from the majority of people? Do they have high sensitivity towards the various kinds of stimuli and why? Finally, what about if the trigger is manipulated by the devil who is trying to hurt these people(specially the believers) because this devil find that these people are very sensitive and easy to be hurt to make them sad, depressed or distract them from having a normal life. What do you think?
@@sayedelghairb8640 There are a lot of factors that can contribute to a person developing OCD - genetics, early childhood experiences, learning experiences, environmental factors, etc. My role as a psychologist is not to come up with theories upon theories as to what caused the problems in the first place, but to focus on what is maintaining the difficulties and making changes to stop the process. So the answer to your question is that there are a lot of things that can contribute to a person developing OCD, but my focus is on finding the solution rather than speculation about what might has started it in the first place. I hope that makes sense.
@@DrRamiNader People who suffer from OCD have things in common. We should know these things if we want to find a durable solution! I think from many personal experiences (that I can’t replicate because of its complicated nature) that this topic have a parapsychological dimension associated with it. The existence of unseen conscious evil entity/entities that taking advantages of the condition of OCD people and fuel the cycle by continuing of repeating and evolving these secret evil thoughts. Allah Almighty only knows. maybe this is what mentioned in the Quran (58:10): (Private conversation is only from Satan that he may grieve those who have believed, but he will not harm them at all except by permission of Allah. And upon Allah let the believers rely.) Another translation for the same verse Quran (58:10): (Secret talks are only inspired by Satan to grieve the believers.
