For some reason, I feel like Tessa loved him early on and Scott was always with someone else. When he realized he loved her, Tessa had already let him go.
I had the exact same thought. But then I feel like something happened between them, maybe they where indeed in a relationship, but someone must have done something wrong, maybe cheating or something else, so they decided to call it quits and overpass it and move on as ice partners than lovers in life.
