I absolutely LOVE your videos, Crystal! Thank you for putting this series together and allowing me to re-live the Camino. ps I loved that you put on a face mask!!!
Huge congratulations on getting this far. I've watched you from the start of this journey and it's incredible. Love your postive energy. Keep dreaming keep believing in yourself. Big hugs
We enjoyed your videos but it's so sad to see so many people on the French route - it's become a bit of a circus. Also with so many cafés and bars every 5-10km, it's lost a lot of it's initial spirit of adventure. We walked the Via de la Plata a few years ago (>1000km) from Seville and I feel it gives a far better and more realistic camino experience. The days are generally much longer (40km+) and virtually no support un between stages but it means you really have to think about what you're carrying such as food and water. Also, at the southern end, Extramadura is about twice as long as the Meseta with temperatures well into the 40s during summer. I guess it depends on what you're looking for but if it's solitude (saw no more than 10 pilgrims in 2 months) and some time to reflect, then I think this a much better choice. Just my 10c
Well done Crystal! It is amazing how easy everything becomes after hitting the 100km mark! You'll get to the end and feel like you could go another 800km.
Wonderful video Crystal. What a journey and a fantastic adventure. It is wonderful how positive and open-minded you are while mastering such a challenge. Beautiful!
Crystal I was so looking forward to seeing you on the last portion of your cathartic journey! If you are reading this you are most probably at HOME Happy New Year, wishing you a happy & healthy 2023! 🎉🥂 How are your poor feet? 💜🇦🇺🤔
Thank you Kathy!! Took a couple weeks off for the HolyDays so I could catch up on the last few videos. I was teary-eyed re-watching all the footage myself :)
thank you for being with me on the journey :) Even though this was filmed awhile ago - I could feel everyone on the 'other side'. It was calming and grounding to feel I had all of you with me

AHHHHHH COCO!!!!!! I was looking for your email this morning and couldn't find it. Can you send me an email? Next walks are coming up and wanted to see what you had going on! Hello@Vanhalla.Life
I have loved watching your whole journey and I was getting withdrawals over the holidays:). I also appreciate the packing list. I'm hoping you'll do a gear retrospective video, what size pack, etc and did you use one of the services to bring part of your gear (thought I saw that in one of the videos). Super helpful, very inspiring, and you've helped me decide that Yes, I do want to do the Camino myself. Thank you!
Thank you Katy! Even though I can’t “see” you on the other side I get so excited to share everything with you! It’s a joy to make these vlogs and also a lot of work so comments like this are like getting a job well done on my year-end review 🥰 😁 I’ll be putting out quite a few videos on ALL questions I’ve received the past few months so hold tight. There are 2 vlogs left then the info videos right after. Any specific questions you have let me know.
Dear Crystal if you come to Australia you are welcome in our home in Brisbane ... I did the camino in Sept 22 from Portugal but I loved watching your videos after I did it.
Hi ! I just saw the longer video and it made me cry! I'm so happy for you. I'm doing these last 100 km next years so I'm in my research stage. I noticed that when you're checking out of Sarria you have a larger bag, do you send it from place to place every day? Would you say it\d be safe for me to send luggage that would have a laptop? It's my biggest question. I'd have to work during camino, it's non-negotiable (budget-wise), but fortunately my job is so great that I wouldn't be worried about it or thinking about it AT ALL during the day, and would only have to realistically have to work for an hour or two max every day. Anyway, carrying my laptop in my backpack seems unrealistic, and sending it over with luggage via taxi or another services seams feasible, but I'm wondering about it being safe. Thank you again for such thorough content and also so entertaining! Sending you my best from Córdoba, Argentina.
Yes laptop in your back pack is unrealistic. Laptop in suitcase is doable but make sure your laptop is in a safe container as the luggage will get tossed around when in transport. Another thing to keep in mind is that WIFI is very unreliable and also not in most places except for large cities/ towns. Even if your hotel/dorm says they have WiFi it is usually not very good.
Im doing it in May 2023, your vlog is the best, I have loved every second. I cant wait for the next video, will there be one regarding the compestela? I really admire evrything youve done, your vlog has made me so much more confident and less nervous about my camino.
Thank you! Yes. Next week I have a video of the last day. Just in case - is there specific info about it you are looking for? Anything that is not in the vlog will be in an info video :)
@@vanhallaadventures I've watched every video, I'm vegan too so yours has been so helpful, I've taken notes of places. I think you've covered alot of my questions in your videos already
I live off-grid so I’m always out of cities but I have a very sensitive nose, I can tell what people eat just by their smell 😂 horse urine just is too much for me!
Really interesting to watch this. I want to do this on my own to make me braver but I want to meet people along the way. I'm older than you are though, and I wonder if people would be as friendly to me. On the plus side I used to work in Spain so I have the language and I'm European. I don't know whether to just walk the last 100k, see how I get on and then and only then, assess with a view to doing the whole thing.
I found I was one of the youngest people on the Camino until the last 100k. I find everyone ids really kind for the most part - you meet so many people. You just say HI and most people love to chat. I would suggest going for whatever is in your heart. Training for the Camino is VERY helpful if you are unsure of your physical capabilities. I think if you have time and go slow, you can do it!
Yeah I think everyone I met who did 25+ per day were either on a time constraint or wanted the torture...like they needed the hurt. Each to their own though I am with you! I like a nice 12 mile day :)
I walked Mid-May - Mid-July. It was longer than most people based on KM/miles though I definitely liked starting in May. Ending in July was HOT HOT HOT!
Congratulations, you made! How do you feel now? Is it only happiness or are you also a bit sad to leave the pilgrim life and the new adventure every day? Do you think that this walk is going to change the way you live your life in the future?
Thank you for asking :) It has been a bit sine I recorded this and watching and editing this video brought me back to this moment. I feel proud and sad all at once. Sad in that the physical walk is over yet proud I did what I said I would do. And I learned so much about myself - it changed the way I approach life. There will be an upcoming vlog about all of that in about 1 month. My life has changed pretty drastically after this - too much to write in a comment but I am happy to share on the vlog. I appreciate you asking such great insightful questions.
@@vanhallaadventures My most important learning when I walked the Camino in the autumn 2019 was to start trusting others. I've had a challenging relationship with my father and perceived that as being abandoned by him, so my feeling had been that if I can't trust my own parent - then who can I trust? During the first days of my walk several strange things happened so I really had to ask for, and rely on help from other pilgrims and after a few days my trust issue was gone. :) What I miss the most is the camaraderie with all the other people from all over the world that I made friends with and also the feeling that every new day is a new adventure - a new page to write in the book of my life story. I had never been in that part of Spain before and not in such rural areas so I didn't know what to expect of the next day. There were beautiful days, as well as challenging and hard days. My plan was to continue to Finisterre, but two days before I came to Santiago my 86 year old father called me and asked if I would be home for Father's Day and also the rain was pouring down during my days in Santiago, so I decided to go home earlier than planned. That was as if the Universe tried to help me because my father died just a week after I got home and if I had continued to Finisterre I would never again had seen my father before he past away. During his last years we had managed to heal our relationship and I'm so happy about that! I think that grieving a person that you both love and in the same time haven't forgiven is really difficult and can be hard to move on from. Thank you for sharing your experience of the Camino in your vlogg!
oh no!!! I feel like I always forget something on these videos 🤦♀️ My tag for the store somehow got left out too! will add this into description later. Thanks for picking up on it! Coco is such a great walking friend - seriously want to promote him everywhere!
