U2's beautiful day, Arsenal vs Man Utd attitude era, Des Lynam presenting... Just some of the reasons I will always prefer this over Match of the Day. Such great memories man...
No way i always thought this was match of the day and they just changed the song for a few years. Now learning it was ITV’s the premiership! Such good memories when i was in primary school, watching this on a Saturday night
@@triggerhappyautos oh great times even fit football in general, soccer am and eat my goal on a Saturday morning before going down to ewood to watch us beat Arsenal and United, was a similar season to 05/06, 6th place and a league cup semi and a fortress ewood

Back when football was good. Takeaway on sat and night with mam and dad when I was 13 allowed to stay up late and watch match of the day. When the song came on give me goose bumps. My next door neighbour used to take me to the local pub to watch Newcastle play. Wasn’t allowed to drink obs but the atmosphere was buzzing. Then Man City and Chelsea fucked things up
Remember Townsends tactics truck, which went down like a lead ballon... and Des took the piss out of it the next week when it was cancelled. “No truck this week Andy?” LMAO.
ITV has been ruined with LGBT, Ant and Dec, Holly and Phil, talk shows, reality shows, overuse of soaps, national news an hour, quiz shows, lack of regional programming and religious programming, pandering to the lowest form denomination.
@@sjsharp2007 itv started off showing it around 7:30 from what I can remember, which got a lot of complaints forcing them to move it to a later time slot
@@genericaccount2056 I don' t remember that at least not in my region i twas always on around 10-10:30 on Meridian from what I recall. But then ITV was still regionalised back then
What I wouldn't give to be 11 again watching this at the end of a Saturday then up early the next morning to play Sunday league with my mates.
Exactly this 😢😩 good times
It's just nostalgia innit, don't fret. Nostalgia groups the good moments and eliminates the bad. You'll reminisce about 2018 in 2030.
Trust me.
@@Scallion_D ahhh shit gonna change like mad but for the best or worst.
And you were shite and never made it lol
agreed mate
Whenever I hear beautiful day by u2 I think of the premiership
Childhood memories right here! 2002-2004 were my years as a footy fan
Somehow I remember this more than anything but I was only 6 years old😂 where it all began

Honourable mentions to Liverpool Leeds Chelsea and Newcastle too lol
This couldn't be anymore better than the MOTD theme and intro.
ITV really smashed it in that aspect.
I agree. They had to pick the right song and they certainly did that.
MOTD can not be beaten, only better part of this is Des Lynham instead MOTD has that twat Gary Linekar
No way i always thought this was match of the day and they just changed the song for a few years. Now learning it was ITV’s the premiership! Such good memories when i was in primary school, watching this on a Saturday night

Gary Megson with his head in his hands as always
Lol....so true.
😂
Managing WBA innit.
Great childhood memories, especially we Blackburn rovers were such a strong team back then
Same! Used to love watching rovers giving someone a good hiding on a Saturday night

David Dunn.....Damien duff.....Brad friedel.....matt Jansen .....tugay lol
Damien Duff, Andy Cole, Dwight Yorke... good team. Won a trophy too that season I believe too
"They love Rome, now they want the Villa"... Always tear up during that part.
In the future: they love the Hawthorns now they want the Hull.

That touch from Bergkamp though!
Yeah quality
Great by ITV. TOUCH ME rings out from the song exactly as Bergkamp spins it away from Dabizas.

I remember that coke advert.
THIS WAS LEGENDARY! My opening teen years!!
Chills. CHILLS.
This takes me back!!
that geo blammin through the air to beautiful day
The premier league at its best. I miss these days. I would of been 10.
Miss these days football ain’t the same no more
The intro and the premier league ball back then 😍😍
Old memories takes me back to the 2000s
I hate growing up... good memories. Cheers for the upload 👊🏻
Great memories! I gotta say this was so much better than the motd opening!
Childhood!
Even today physics is unable to work out what happened at 01:20-01:22
yup, Bergkamp trademark reverse 180
Ljungberg once did it, that was helluva memory lane :)
What a time golden era so glad i lived it
CANT REMEMBER HIS FIRST NAME BUT THAT BEATTEY STRIKER WAS BANGING THEM IN THESE TIMES.
James
Oh my days, James beetie?!? Those were the days
despite his personal views, des lynam was a quality presenter, probably the best there's been, great intro
His personal views are irrelevant to his presenting ability.
What personal views?
I believe Connor is referring to Lynam voting for UKIP in 2013.
Whilst I would never vote for them, Lyman voting for a then Eurosceptic party is really not that bad.
better than MOTD all day long, only downside is it had adverts
Remember Townsends tactics truck, which went down like a lead ballon... and Des took the piss out of it the next week when it was cancelled. “No truck this week Andy?” LMAO.
Great memories of the early 2000s decade but now it’s about the 2020s decade!
I miss these days
This U2 version is my favourite 👍
I always watched MOTD I actually didn't mind the premiership
Loved the intro hated the adverts I was only 12 then 😭
30th November 2002
I believe the rights are up for auction this year. My 3 year cycle of hoping itv get the rights commences once again
Back before the world went mad
Love this intro!
The coca-cola footie ads before and after the commercial breaks. 😂😂😂
This song will never die
Football was so good back then.
Good old days😊
Was a great intro and Des Lynham perfect host bring it back I say 👍

I still got that ball
Oh the good old days no var and no riduculus amounts of stoppage time
The first decade of the 21st Century

When football was about the game and not the money
I wish someone would touch me with so much feeling like Dennis Bergkamp touched the ball 1:20

MOTD all day long
When itv smashed it with full premiership coverage to this was the year they had the rights over sky right ??
I can't see empty stadiums
No worries of Covid. None of that. Around that period Sars was happening but nothing like this one.
When football was worth watching. Not todays rubbish with bang average players scoring 30 goals a season
Who is the player at 1:26?
Gerrard
guessing this would have been on tele @ the same time as MOTD?
Drewwbee Fan No BBC lost the rights to the premier league to ITV... for a few seasons.
