    Lived in Whis for 5 years and March is definitely the best month to ride. Mountain doesn't seem as busy ( except March break) and the sun is out.. nothing beats a dump at night and a sun day the next day 🙌

    Don't sleep on the first week of April. The beginning of "Spring Skiing" starts, accommodations go down, believe the lift tickets were cheaper. I know he said April see's no snow, but from the research i did before going, the snow that does appear is a BIG storm in the first week. Groomers were great, pow was heavy (wet), visibility at -1%at the peaks but when I could see I had a blast!

    Feb was amazing for me this year. No lines. Fresh pow. Unfortunately Harmony Express broke down for an hour. Other than that it was amazing.
    Add an East coast, I'll probably always think it's great.

    Every year I avoid Nov, Dec & Jan. It’s a shit show up there, too crowded. Ain’t got no time to wait >40min in line. I save all my sick days for March - May. So far, got in 29 days since Mid Feb this year. Though, the only down side of spring boarding in Whistler is it can get REALLY icy, especially on blue bird days.

    • @riseandalpine
      @riseandalpine  Рік тому

      Super solid strategy!
      Spring days also mean you can sleep in, wait for the snow to soften and have zero FOMO

    The 2023-2024 season has been challenging! Gutted the alpine wasn't open in Dec but if there's not enough snow... not much you can do. We still had fun though. :)

      Every year comes with it's own weather surprises and challenges. Whistler is a tough mountain to line up perfect weather at. Sometimes you have to hang around for a month to get a good storm system and some sunshine

      @@riseandalpineOh for sure. We then booked a cheeky week in Verbier, Switzerland. The conditions couldn't have been better. If we'd gone a week later, it would have been icy and bare patches down low.

    I'm a year late on this video but the topic is always of interest. Based in Europe, the ticket prices at Whistler and the lift lines I see in your videos scare the heck out of me. I'm afraid of making a "once-in-a-lifetime" trip to Whistler under those conditions. It seems May would definitely be the month of choice provided one can plan spontaneously. I bet May 2023 was sensational. Thanks for this important review.

    • @riseandalpine
      @riseandalpine  Рік тому

      Hey! Totally fair to be worried, the lines can be absolutely horrible. If you're here for weekdays when the kids aren't off from school then you'll have no problem with lines. A powder day anytime of the year will always be jam packed. May is absolutely the quietest and you'll get lot's of sun, but depending on the snow back the chairs start to shut down. Best to plan to go when both sides of the mountain are still open. Let me know if you have any Q's. Always happy to help :)

    All looks fantastic but biggest shock was how much are accommodations are for an average family. Even with Epic Pass covering lift tickets for all in the family this will likely make it not affordable for a large family from the US. We see 3-4 bedroom houses priced on Air B&B or BRBO website at levels of 15,000-30,000 US dollars for 10-14 days stay. This is insane - Canada appears to be 2-3 times more expensive than the US and 3-4 times more expensive than Europe (even with airfare accounted for). We are better off skiing lower cost Vail or Utah resorts than Whistler. Realistically, as much as we would like to experience Whistler Blackcomb skiing here appears to be priced mostly for rich locals who live there and for very rich people from Europe or Middle East. It is off limits for US customers. Sad to see this Epic mountain crossed from our list for good.

    • @riseandalpine
      @riseandalpine  9 місяців тому

      100%. It is ridiculously unaffordable. Us 'non rich' locals / people like me who live in Vancouver are lucky to live within driving distance of such an epic spot.

    Love all the info on whistler. I’ve been once for a week in February and the snow was fantastic except for the fact that it snowed the day before we got there and as we left so no real fresh pow. We are planning a trip with the girlfriends back and they are definitely lower mountain beginner types. Would the last week of march/first week of April still have 100% coverage? When does the lower mountain/base start to show some melting? So stoked to do spankys this time. Last time(3 years ago) I definitely chickened out haha

    • @riseandalpine
      @riseandalpine  2 роки тому +1

      Hey John,
      I'd totally recommend you ski with the girlfriends on the Whistler Mid-Mountain. The emerald chair has the best beginner terrain on either side and you still get fabulous views. It depends on the snow base but I'm almost 100% certain there will be snow down to the base the first week of April.
      Good luck sending it down Spankys!!

    Been loving the videos and the vibe over the past year! I'm a year 4 cranky of man of a skier, up to blacks / steeps without too many problems, moguls and tight trees are a pain in the ass though. If I wanted to go more all mountain in whistler like up around spankys, what skills would you reckon I get training on in november december to try and give myself more options for next season? Cheers!

    • @riseandalpine
      @riseandalpine  2 роки тому +2

      The biggest thing is MILEAGE. The more you ski and challenge yourself on a daily basis the better you will be on tougher terrain.
      If you don't have any joint/body pain issues I would focus on getting fluid in those moguls, it will help greatly in the trees.
      I would also practice jump/small turns on increasingly steeper terrain so you can increase your confidence in increasing speed and turn size coming down steep terrain like Spanky's!
