This song was written by Lionel Ritchie after he and Diana Ross were having conversations about their friendship and experiences with Marvin Gaye after he was murdered by his father.
My beloved brother passed away due to suicide. This song always brings back those memories, questions, guilt and horrible grief. It will be 10 years since his death on June 11. No, it doesn’t get better I’m sorry to say. I feel he is at peace in heaven, but here on Earth we must endure the loss.
Happy Holidays,, great song. That was actually ms Ross concert I believe in Belgium and he kinda snuck away and came to surprise her and they had a amazing conversation in which he revealed some things to ms Ross and although she does say they spoke she never says exactly what about other than to say Marvin ran away , but he ran to his friend ms. Ross
People always for get that Diana is a very goid singer...Aretha always went to watch her in concert and as we know if Aretha didnt respect you she wouldn't waste her time.
I was sort of hoping you didn't react to this one...but so glad you did....I remember when Marvin passed and this song came out....On my way to a basketball game my sophomore year in high school...thanks for the reaction!
This was a beautiful reaction - and Miss Ross' last TOP TEN POP HIT in 1985! LIONEL RICHIE wrote the song for her "Swept Away" album that generated other hits including the title track; "All of You" (a duet with Julio Iglesias); and a return to Chic #2 Bernard Edwards (with Nile Rodgers) on a Chicago SUMMER JAM "Telephone". She'd also do a LIVE VERSION of "Forever Young" on the Jerry Lewis telethon that is worth a lsiten too (She SANGS!). CONTINUED success on your LOVING reactions! AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I hope you guys do the reaction of the remake for the Michael Jackson video, It's the same song but towards Michael Jackson... Now that's super touching with more footage of her and Michael...

Diana's not a belter and that is part off her genius she can convey emotion without screaming.

She Had Also Did This Song as A Tribute To
Paul Williams (The Temptations) & Florence Ballard (The Supremes)
If I remember the context correctly, this was her tribute to her dear friend Marvin Gaye. Thank you for reacting to this beautiful song!

I remember the night I heard he passed. Marvin, Elvis, and John Lennon. As a kid, you wondered who was next.
Marvin Gaye developed a major habit and his Dad was like, I brought you into this world, I'll take you out.
And did.
Too sad.
So haunting, this song.
